Ideas for B&B version 4.2

I know that 4.1 is only just out & I think it's brilliant. I'm spending every evening checking new posts and playing with my phone like never before. So, before the 4.1 thread becomes the next thread with 1200 posts, I thought I'd start a new thread for ideas for 4.2
Tom - before I found the magic that is B&B I was using Wisbar Advance desktop and an application called innesoft address book which had a great feature that when someone called you, their photo was displayed full screen with their name (see thumbnails) rather than just the standard windows window.
Any chance you could devlelop something similar for 4.2 !!!

Here is something that may hold you over, I am still trying to figure out how to use the caller id without the actual slide to unlock, bit here is something to tide you over, jsut a thought

Have a pretty much full screen keyboard for texting in landscape mode? The text appears at the top?
Is there a way we can assign a button to lock the phone rather than go thruogh the menu?

Anybody knows if it is legal to include trial versions of apps in cooked rom?
Was thinking rom with included sktools, english dictionary of some kind, IM+, resco explorer, spb gprs monitor included on rom would save time and space. Apps included would be trial versions and ppl haveing bought them could just enter activation keys/serials, others could buy app if thy liked it.

This would be a waste of time and energy for most, these Roms are made to be efficient, the least amount of space used so that you as an individual can place your desired programs, once a rom is built there is no removing/uninstalling of any apps, hence the reason to not put trial versions into a rom, I use several of the above mentioned, but to "Bloat" a rom with them would be ineffecient. Best thing to do is install on your sd card, keep all your initial install cabs in one folder and use that as your rebuild folder. Cheers.

Is it not worth remembering that everyone has a different list of killer apps they MUST have on their device?
If Tom & Meschle etc added every app - the rom would only just fit on a 40gb hard disk!!!
To my mind - the idea is that the cooked roms are a basis onto which you install your own apps to make your own device work?
Constanlty asking for new apps to be added to a rom just complicates the issue. Or am I wrong?

OK, i agree, rom should be as slim as possible, but why the hell there is cube, psshutXP, PHM regedit/traylaunch, and office mobile on it then?

P.S. Dont get me wrong, i think 4.1 is great and it is a lot faster than O2. Just throwing around ideas about how to make it better.

with my original post, I was not really asking for a copy of the app, just would like a much bigger photo to pop up with caller id and liked the look of the inesoft one.

Just trying to make the ROM easier to use, more efficient.
B&B 4.1 is far better than original ROM from this point of view
TouchFlo for example helps to have everything we need with a single finger move..
Phone app is a lot more usable also.
Perhaps also the possibility to customize HTC Home by default, with more options (number of apps in the launcher, ..)

i don't think that is constructive to add as much apps, i can imagine, when it's released, everbody is shouting "this is not good" and "why did you use this app and not the other one"...and so one. I like it clear, not too much apps...but that's my opinion.
If i want it with all apps included then i start (to learn ) cooking my own ROM... IMHO i am very satisfied with the work that Tom is doing for us all. And 4.1 is just released. Enjoy it and let Tom make a break. He is hard working all the time!

Plugins for new version
Alarms extension (SpbTime style)
USB PenDrive emulator (WMstorage style)
Phone call recording (Audio Recorder style)

Improving File access
What I would like to see is the File Dialog Changer, I don't know who has heard of it but it is very good! Usually when you want to save files or open them in any application you get access to you My Documents folder. Only some smart apps like TCPMP and others have the option to access your entire pda.
File Dialog Changer changes the way you access your files in opening and saving them for every application, it's just 50 KB and you can activate / deactivate it in System Settings.

And about your wish I can only say that there is already Remote Desktop for WM6, I think I've downloaded it in the Wizard forum. Or use PocketVNC, that is the pda version for VNC. I am successfully using that with TightVNC on my computer. I just have to be in range of my WLAN and can turn on my computer by sending a wake on lan signal (not with vnc) and then access my computer through pocketvnc or access the files on my computer.

I think he had a point though. In the whole thread there is not one message of Tom Codon himself. Did you ask what he thinks? Maybe he has a few ideas of his own? After all, it will be his ROM...

Who says it will be B&B v4.2? Why not 4.3 or 5.0? If there will be another version let him take care of the numbers.

Spb GPRS Monitor not working...

I just installed SPB GPRS Monitor, selected my GPRS connection from the settings/options panel in the program, pressed ok.
Opened up IE, to do a test view of a web page, but the monitor didn't/doesn't count any kilobytes being sent.
Any advice on how I can fix this, or does the monitor not work on our phones?

Rom Version: CRCs r11.2
Radio Version: 1.40.30.00
Phone is a AT&T 8525
i dont have any other software installed to monitor the gprs, (nor any running in task manager).

Done a soft reset? if that doesn't work, you might want to try a hard one, unless someone else has an idea.

CRCs Device Update (is that available as a CAB file somewhere?)
I'm trying to grab some CRCs RingTones, and other goodies available through Device Update.. but DU is not on my phone ..yet

Try updating to 12.11, its a lot faster than 11.2 for me, and I cant find any bugs myself.
(tisnt out there as a cab, no)

Time to upgrade, 12.11 is as good as stable now I believe he told me, so close not funny. What version of SPB GPRS monitor are you trying to run?

For HTC home, get HRC home customiser and back up your settings. (see FAQ)
Yes, you will lose everything else though.
WM is like windows, if odd stuff happens, reset it till it behaves. glad it worked :d

yes, yes i really like the keyboard... i had a QTEK 8310 WM smartphone prior, it was fun, but this is way better... although i tweaked that one pretty well

never used it couldn't afford one I hear the star 3 or something ones are good, just, the more sat's it can lock the better.

When I reboot, it gives me a notice
"Connection Setup"

start/settings/connections connection wizard, option untick enable auto detect or something, your country must not be on the list? Edit what did you download? what version I thought he used the latest connection setup wizard which should detect vancouver?

Few unfixed problems in the kitchen

Ok, I decided to write new thread because most of the rom makers I pm to didn't answer me at all. Some kind of secrets or whatever. I think we should help each other to improve our ROM's but maybe I'm wrong.
I have some issues in my owe ROM which I can't really fix. Maybe someone will know the solution
1. Some ROM makers wrote in their changelogs that now CommMgr is really closing without being on the process list all the time? How?
2. I'm using EZinput keyboard 2.0.33633 full qwerty and two keyboards should be available: full qwerty and phone keyboard. Only the first one is present in the system (the second one now is standard MS keyboard instead of phone keyboard 2.0 EZinput). Why? I changed the EXT package many times to make sure it's ok and all the time the same issue...
3. Is there a working method to change system rings to wav? Every time I do it then they doesn't work. Do I have to change also some registry value?
4. Windows Media Player dosen't play any videos. I changed mHub and mHubVO into some other versions but still no efect. What else could be the reason?
That's all what I'd love to know to make my ROM better

I know how to manually switch between those keyboards using registry entries [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\ezsip]
CurrentSIP set to a00 is Phone Keypad and d00 for fullQWERTY. But still it's impossible to change it in menu (WM6.5 21725)
That's all I want to share with, maybe it will help someone. Should I expect some respond? I don't think so :]

Dude, about the comm manager, I don't know which version of comm manager are u using. But I got my comm manager working good n closing when clicked on x button. All I can say is don't use any new version like 2.8 or topaz comm manager. Use the 2.7.1.4 version. It's OG diamond comm manager n works nice. I'm using the same version.

Did u try the GEN Y sip menu..??
I heard someone there saying that if we have the touchflo installed, then only we can change between the phone pad n qwerty board. But touchflo brings some more diff probs elsewhere.
Surprising issue this.. Coz it works perfectly fine with ezinput 1.

do u have a package of touchflo..?? If not, I'll mail it to you. Try to import it n see if it works. I had in the previous build of this kitchen.

i dont know..check gen y thread..u will definitely get moe help there. its surely been talked about in that thread.

I think I know the answer. Ability to change between keyboards wouldn't work on wm6.5 without HTC menuenhancement.

nope its not only that, u definitly need the touchflo package, but that package conlicts with wm 6.5
the only thing we can do is wait for HTC to bring out its first WM 6.5 rom for diamond2, then we can take the new touchflo or ezinput package from that rom
about the windows media player issue, make sure u have the DShow OEM in your rom

there a slight newer one in my kitchen, here are the oems i use for multimedia:
- DShow_2_00_19143426_0
- mHub_6_57_080529_E0
- mHubVO_1_75_090515_X0
u should also check the following drivers in OEMDrivers:
- qtv.dll
- qtv_mp4_decoder.dll
try replacing those drivers

And again some damn issues in my kitchen
For last two days I was looking for the source of why my Face down mute ring stopped working. In registry everything is fine. Exept of registry, is there any dll library or something responsible for that? Also when I'm in windows file explorere and want to copy the file from IS to main memory (I do tap on "Copy")and then tap on the menu to choose the location then it crashed.
Any ideas for soulution those two problems?
PS. One more thing I forgot... I used to have my clock and calendar to set up automaticly the date and time after HR but now it seems to be gone... Is it up to network type currently using? GPRS/3G? Or maybe some registry value?

Thanks dude but it doesn't work. I was trying with both, 0 and 1 to make sure but still no effect. Friend of mine checked some others 6.5 ROM's and it seems that it doesn't work in any of them.

I found out that automatic time and date set works only if 3G/SHDPA network is available. So this question is out of date.
If anyone find the solution with face down mute ring then please let me know.
Another issue that I was hoping to solve is contact list popping up every time after SR. So in titanium softkeys registry I changed SK1URL into HTCActionScreen. And now... HTCActionScreen popping up every time after SR. Any solution for that?

Maybe you should explain why you want an alternative, and what you're looking for in the alternative. For me, nodata works fine, although I do find the pop-ups annoying as crap. "Do you want to exit?" Gee, no, I want this program running in the background all day. And why is "No" highlighted instead of "Yes?" It's trivial, but it annoys the crap out of me. We all know what the program does, and you don't need a pop-up for every single button. Lol.

If it's that, you can do it by tweak registry or use Advanced Configuration Tool.

I have just been looking for this as well. I know I found a thread somewhere on this site for a program that would disconnect 3g data when it detects a wifi (or something like that). Unfortunatley, after lots of searching I cannot find the thread or app again
Not much use to you I know, but I am hoping it might jog somebody elses memory.

I know the program that you say, but it only disconnect 3g when it find a wifi line..Nodata in roaming, if I'm not mistaken

What errors are you getting?

ConnToggle
I came across this program ConnToggle here on XDA but can no longer find it.
It is an alternative to NoData which lets you toggle the connections via command line or create shortcuts to toggle all GPRS connections on/off.
The best part is that it doesn't have the annoying prompts that NoData has.
No install needed, just copy to your device and run it.
Full credit to the author.

Issues with 6.5.3??

im currently using Hikey 9.3 ROM which uses build 28002.
It is by far the best, fastest and definately the most stable ROM to date. 5 weeks now and not even ONE soft reset!!!
I have a few small issues but being a slightly more unknown ROM its not well supported so thought I would ask here as I believe the questions could be 6.5 based rather than ROM dependant.
1) Task Manager doesnt close apps only minimises them. In 6.1 this can easily be changed through task manager itself but no such options on 6.5. Any reg changes etc??? p.s. dont refer showcase - love it but freezing issues big time with 6.5 and no current solution.....
2) The standard keyboard changes from qwerty back to default after every soft reset. Just because I havent reset in weeks doesnt solve the problem.
3) Data connection stays open. My email updates every hour and my weather every 2 hours but the data connection doesnt turn off which murders my battery. Any apps or advice here??

I'm using l3v5y's 6.5.3 rom, build 28014, only to issues. 1. when locked you have to tap time first, then unlock. 2. the dailer is missing its skin, i installed ryon WM dailer to fix this

try installing this task manager and see if it makes a difference.. see attachments
2) The standard keyboard changes from qwerty back to default after every soft reset. Just because I havent reset in weeks doesnt solve the problem.

Install the sip selector and that should stop the keyboard changes after resets

Sorry to be a pain but ive read pages 9-15 and cant seem to find it. Also tried search function for 'data connection' but couldnt find it either.
If you could direct further it would be much appreciated, I'll keep looking too

I've found a solution, its very long winded but I'll see if it works.
