Keyboard trouble after upgrade - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Hello guys, I´m from Brazil and I´m experiencing some trouble using BA´s keyboard after upgrade to wm6.1.
Keyboard´s layout here is different, we use a lot of accents, like ãéúç and all of them just disapear after the upgrade, as well commas, points and other signals just changed places.
Sorry for the bad english... hope you can help me.

i am not an expert on this, since i am neither brazilian, nor have wm6.1 or use the hardware keyboard, so this is only a suggestion:
take a registry editor and go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keybd\Locale
that is probably set to 0409, try and set it to 0416, which is what i found to be the portuguese layout for brazil. you can also look up other layouts over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317240
where an argentinian person had a similar problem. it is a different device though, but i doubt that that would make a difference in the same os.
have fun
Chef_Tony

Hello Chef-Tony.
Thanks for the help but it´s not the same sollution for Wizard and BA.
I tried every other post's suggestions but they just doesn't work.
Let´s keep searching. If someone got something, please share...

Changing the keyboard layout

Hi everyone!
Many people out there from all over the world have upgraded their Artemis to Windows Mobile 6, thanks to people who are working hard on cooking nice ROMs for us. These people are used to a specific keyboard layout, many languages are using special characters too.
It would be nice to have a way to change the keyboard layout : something like easy installing CABs or a how to on what to change in the registry, what to remove on the storage, or whatever way to have our own keyboard on theses WWE ROMs.
Is it possible?

Hi Romano2k,
The only thing that i have found was this regkey:
http://wiki.modaco.com/index.php/Windows_Mobile_5_Registry_Tweaks
But afaik does this regkey only work for the 'hard-keyboard' and not for the software-keyboard, so this answer won't help you a lot...
On my P3300 nothing changed with these keys and nothing happend when i changed the keys in 'HKCU\Keyboard Layout' In another forum i found a thread and they are saying you need a third-party software to change the software-keyboard...but for me it's no problem to use the english keyboard...but french keyboards are much stranger (i think french keyboard are the strangest keyboards that exists) and so i can understand your problem
Cheers
Peter
Love your reply's title
I agree with you, the french keyboard is strange, I wish they were only DVORAK keyboards all over the world! But I need my "é" "à" and so on... I'm sure there's a way to change the software keyboard!
Vive LA France
As far as I know it's a dll file that you would have to change. Never tried in WM6 to replace it, in WM 2003 it wasn't possible. Resco Keyboard would be an alternative if you don't want to try to change the layout yourself.
ups...
My french isn't that well....long time ago since school
I found a cab for the german keyboard, maybe you will find out more when you take a look inside this cab ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321236

That's a common problem for WM6 as MS change the word editor. Some well known WM5 word editors are working on this one. Nothing has been fix at this stage

Hermes Keyboard Map

I flashed to the htc release wm 6.1 but accidentally did a foreign version. I flashed it again with the US release and it works fine except the symbols E, D, X, W, S, Z, Q, and A are not working correctly. They input a different symbol.
I went to do the keyboard fix...
"Goto the following registry entry
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oem\Qwerty]
There is a key called 'Layout' and it is in Decimal.
The default value of English ROM is 20409, and Chinese ROM is 20404 (both are in hexadecimal)."
...and the value was already 132105 (20409 in decimal)
I went ahead and changed it to 132104 and then back to 132105 but it is still not working.
Is there such a program that would allow me to easily re-map the keyboard?
Any help is appreciated!
schaps advanced config 2
Thanks!
I ended up just finding this fix a little further down the page...
"Issue: When applying a non-cingular ROM to an 8525 its default keyboard is different than the 8525.
The Fix:
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\Qwerty]
"Layout"=263177 (decimal)"
...it works, but now the keyboard will not light up.
Is this an unrelated problem?
How do I fix it?

No it doesn't fix the problem, any other place in the registry do you know....? Thank you!!
Apologies for jumping onto this thread, seems the best place really.
I've just bought a HTC Hermes, and it has WM 6.1 installed, using it on the Orange UK network.
My only problem is, when pressing ! I get @, and when pressing Y i get Z.
I've ensured all language and keyboard options are set to UK, however I just don't seem to be able to change the keyboard map to full UK, although physically the keyboard is correct, just not the SW side of things.
I was just wondering if someone could help me, if you let me know where I need to look, i'll be able to help you, just not used anything MS based for the past 4 years, so its a bit of a foreign object now.
Thank you,

Good job and thank you in finding this thread and not opening up a new one
Anyhow, have you tried the latest Advance Config Tool v3.3? Try that version and see if it fixes you issue.

Hi there,
I'm actually new to Smartphones, and the Tytn / Hermes was going cheaply online (ebay unfortunately), but the phone itself is excellent and is easy to use from back in my windows days.
Most is familiar, but seeing how far Windows can go before I want to switch to Linux.
Where would I get the ACT? Is it downloadable from here as a development tool, or is it online needing payments etc?
Thank you,
greee, u can get it at schaps website here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317070&highlight=advanced
galaxys,
I've downloaded the ACT, along with a pocket msn, and neither will install.
Do i need to put them somewhere for it to install correctly? Just i'm only getting access to my memory card.
Thank you,

Both should install on main memory.
Are you getting an error when the don't install?
So far kareem, i'm getting an XML output for the ACT, and for Pocket MSN it reports:
Setup Is Not a valid Pocket PC application.
With the ACT, i've no option to install, although the setup file I have was meant to be a cab file.
Thank you,
Scratch all that, got both PocketMSN and ACT installed today! For some reason the keyboard was in German, so switched that back!
Thanks guys!
Now got to find uber cool stuffs for my phone...
what's the value for an azerty keyboard

Japanese input T-mobile Dash possible?

I did some searching around regarding this but could not come up with any final conclusions regarding this issue. I'm posting this on behalf of a friend of mine who has a Dash. I know it's possible to set up ppcs to have Japanese input (i've set up my tilt to do so) but can this be done on a smartphone?
If anyone has any feedback regarding this that would be a great help! Thanks!

Yup its posible I've done it before my dash.
with english and japanese/chinese characters it was a .cab file that I downloaded from some company I delet it the file some time ago because I have the new rom from kavana that has english/chinese so I din't think I would need it anymore. The only proble I had was that it took alot of memory from the phone.
Hahahahaha sorry I cant post it. you should look for it better if you can't find it I think I have the download link bookmark on my friends PC and see if I can share it....
If you could post that that would be great. I've searched for some time and have had no luck finding it. When you installed it were you still able to input with english characters as well? I'm not familiar with how smartphones work.
Anyone else know if this is possible?

A question from a potential buyer

Hi all,
First off, I want to congratulate everyone for their exellent job here on XDA.
I own a Diamond right now, and I'm looking into buying a TP2. After searching this forum, and having read the Wiki, there's only one question I want to ask.
Regarding the hardware keyboard, is it somehow linked to the soft keyboard? Meaning that, I'm planning on buying a QWERTY keaybord, even though I'm french. So, changing the language on the SIP menu from english to french, would it change the Hardware layout as well?
And, last but not least, can that be done for greek as well? I mean, switching from english to greek and to french easily?
Thank you for your time.
Regards,
NoWorthWhile.
