GPS doesn't work - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hi Guys,
finally my new (german) Rhodium arrived today.
All is fine except the GPS module.
It seems deactivated and I have no idea how to activate it.
Google Maps doesn't work, GPS settings are gray and the GPScyclecomputer sais GPS it off.
Any idea what to do?
Thanks
Duke

In Google Maps under menu-options do you have windows manage the GPS settings?

Hi,
thanks for your reply.
The menuentry for the GPS settings is gray and unavailable.
The winmo GPS settings don't accept any chances at the hardware tab, hardwareport setting is none, i think thats because of the internal device?
Duke

My Touch pro 2 GPS also don't seem to work.
I have a dutch version of the TP2.
The HTC GPS Tool isn't able to get a fix.
TomTom 7 Isn't able to get a fix.
Its set to com 4-> None -> 4800 -> Let windows manage.
Is this perhaps a problem with other then english roms?

After a hardreset all works fine.
Needed about 20minutes for TomTom 7 to get a fix but finally it has one.

I have performed several hard resets with the 1234 okay and still no luck with the GPS I think i'm going to caal htc

I called HTC Netherlands.
They said TP2 is only compatible with Copilot 7.
Also they said to set it to com9 with a baud rate of 9200.
I'm unable to set it to a baud rate of 9200 it switches back to 4800.
So still no luck with the gps. I'm a little bit disapointed with the support.
I keep you posted.

I did contact the HTC support, too. They advised the hard reset.
Did you go out for a walk trying to get a fix? Did it for me.
You also should run QuickGPS to download current satelite data from the internet, and then get out, to a park maybe and give it time. Could be up to 30minutes!
Good luck!

load of crap if someone tells you that it's only compatible with Copilot. GPS chip will work any software as long as they are compatible with each other. TomTom 7 works just fine in TP2.

After a 100km drive with TT 7 still not able to get a GPS lokation with the internal GPS. Its set to COM 4 witha baud of 4800.
The Parrot T3200 easely finds 8 active GPS satalites.
I keep you posted.

It worked for me straight off with Live Search, no need to change any settings. Maybe Orange got something right for once?

Have you tried GPSTest (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=360477 and many other places round here) that should help show what is going on.
Gordon

I tried that tool with diffrent settings.
It sees some red dots in the Satallite tab. But is also unable to connect to a satalite. Whilst with my parrot T 3200 it connects with the HTC GPS Tool.

Still the GPS and radio was not working after the WiMo 6.5 Upgrade.
I Called HTC and my touch pro 2 has been shipped to a repair center.
They replaced the motherboard and its working perfect now.

tomtom 5 & bluetooth gps

just got myself tomtom 5. unfortunately cant hook up my gps which is Altina GBT708. It is a bluetooth gps which i could use successfully with previous versions of tomtom on com port 6 now it dosent work. any tips. tried using com port 5 patch in other forums still no result. tried installing previous version of gps driver over current still nothing.
TomTom5 is a pain in the butt to configure your GPS. I have the NavMan GPS sleeve for the IPAQ and just sleecting NavMan GPS from the settings screen doesn't work. I had to configure a standard NMEA GPS unit and set the baud rate to 38400 and then it worked. Play about with the settings, one will work eventually!
how do you go about doing that.i have been trying to select various options dosent seem to work
I am having the same problems with a Fortuna Clip-on Bluetooth GPS. Worked fine with previous TT3 and works fine with Memory-Map software.
The only thing I noticed is that you can pick com port but not the baud rate.
Any help on this would be appreciated. :?:
Just select standard wired GPS or standard bluetooch GPS (wired in my case). It then asked for baud rate. I searched the web to find the right baud rate to set for my device.
i chose the standard bluetooth gps. then it asked me to selected the port. so i selected com port 6. after that it just doesnt do anything. for tomtom 4.44 it goes to bluetooth manager automatically and asks to confirm the gps device
After selecting Standard bluetooth the next screen asks what the unit is connected too and after selecting com6 nothing happens?
If I select TomTom bluetooth I get some blue light flashes from the GPS unit and that is it.
Mine is wires, not bluetooth so I can't help I'm afraid.
I have Orange SPVm2000, TT5, Fortuna Clip-on Bluetooth GPS, Motorola HS850 Bluetooth Headset and have them all working together.
I had the same problem as reported hear of not being able to setup GPS on com 6, TT5 would either freeze when selecting com 6 or no communication would start between GPS and PDA.
First my observations:-
Always start to configure GPS with a soft reset this is a must as this is the only way I can guarantee a connection now that I have it working.
The only time I could get the blue light to flicker on my GPS was when I selected TomTom GPS receiver
When I select Com6 I am not given the option to select baud rate?
The sequence of events that made the final connecton:-
Do a soft rest.
I selected TomTom Bluetooth GPS and left the PDA and GPS trying to communicate for 5mins. During this time the blue light on the GPS flashes at different rates.
I then selected "Other Bluetooth GPS" then Com6 and it sprang into life.
This is not a guaranteed solution, but it worked for me. Why?
The problem is clearly with TT5, as I have no problems with this setup with other navigation software.
Remember in TT5 if it fails to connect once it will not connect at all until you do a soft reset of your PDA.
Hope this helps.
Daron at Tekguru seems to have solved this problem:
http://www.tekguru.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6291
"...I've resolved the issue, which stems I think from the BT GPS unit I use (Emtec as supplied with CoPilot Live).
It seems that TTN5 has decided it is not a valid BT unit, which is a major grr.....
But in the end after a good hour of hard resetting the machine to give me a clean platform I've found the following works (assuming BT is on and the GPS already paired):
- Tap on the screen and select Change Preferences (big spanner)
- Tap the black triangle until it says Preferences 4 of 6
- Select Configure
- Select 'Another cabled NMEA GPS' set the GPS Baud Rate at 38400 and select DONE.
The BT wizard will then allow you to select the correct bluetooth port, for my machine it was the top of the two BT ports (COM 8 - if you tap and hold).
You will notice a small orange and black circle at the top right of the screen this will start to spin if you are connected to the GPS if it does not spin then soft reset the PDA and try again.
This did take three tries before it connected for me but it worked beautifully.
TTN5 uses a superb VGA graphics set and it looks damned beautiful! Worth the effort but by God TT could have made it less painful!"
Hi, might be worht giving my post here a look http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=125995#125995
Might be able to help you.... James
IT WORKS....
I was a bit sceptical at first but xda-rocks found the solution from us. he might not be the one to find it but atleast brought it to our attention. im sure a lot of people were suffering with this problem and will be pleased that they can use their tt5 at last. i had almost given up hope at one point and move back to tt4.44 as i find tt3.07 utterly rubbish, slow and without features.
i can now start playing round with the gps once again like when i first got my m2000...
THANZ AGAIN
TT5 & Blutooth
Hi Guys
I thought I would post this. I had the same problem with TT5 and it not connecting to my BT gps until I installed 5.10 . The only problem is that I already got my refund from TT due to lack of functionality. I had to install a cracked ver off of the net and Piratebay has a 5.10 hack on there now. I think I will reorder my TT5 as it seems to work great now.
THanks

Navigon with Artemis

Has anyone tried Navigon MN5 with Artemis yet?..........
Thanks
Rafiki
I did.. Navigon works fine, but is really slow on my Artemis. TomTom is much faster. I tried Navigon because of the TMC support, but i can't get TMC to work on my device. I'm going to try iGo 2006 as well, but for now TomTom does the job very well.
Now I'm using iGo 2006. I can recommend this piece of software to everyone, it's much faster than both TomTom and Navigon. The looks are incredible.
My tomtom takes ages to find the sats when you first boot it up. Is this normal??

Try to find the upgrade to v6.02 as this has the option for "Built In GPS" and it'll then use the Quick GPS data. Cold start is now 10 seconds for me with warm start being about 3 second!
Navigon 6
Navigon 6 works fine, but it is really slow on Artemis, is there anyone knows how to turn the first warning off in the begining of screen ?
Does iGo support QuickGPS so that it can lock on fast?
A cool nav program is Route 66. Works fine and gets a fix in approx.10 sec. Uses same maps as Navigon btw!
TomTom is a joke if you live in Eastern Europe. Either no maps at all or very poor with only very major roads.
I only work with DestinAtor on my Artemis. Version 6.0.0.
Very fast fixes (approx 6-9 seconds) and response from map is better then TommyTommy, according to a friend of mine. He switch over to DestinAtor aswell.
TomTom GPS Settings...?

Guys can someone tell me what settings they have on their Artemis' GPS Settings and on their TomTom 6.200?
On my Artemis' GPS settings, I have it set to:
GPS Programs Port: COM4
GPS Hardware Port: COM2
Baud Rate: 4800
Manage GPS automatically set to: ON
And on the TomTom settings I configured it to use the Other NMEA GPS Receiver, set the baud rate to 4800 and then when it asks "GPS is connected to:" I just select COM4 which is the first option.
Now this works for me pretty well but the weird thing is my HTC P3600 seems to be a lot quicker at getting a fix and it has connections with more sattelites and a better signal than the Artemis!
As far as I know, the artemis is suppose to be much better when it comes to GPS because it has the latest Sirf 3 GPS receiver and from what I read somewhere, the P3600 has another GPS chip not as good as the Sirf 3.
Would be good to know what settings everyone else is using. By the way TomTom only seems to detect the GPS when the GPS Programs Port is set to COM4 on the Artemis' GPS settings. Setting this to anything else doesnt work.
Thanks in advance.

Hello, I put the Navigon 6,2 software on my P3300 today. Awesome stuff. The update 6,2 has improved the Speed alot.
The only thing that i need help with is the TMC service.
how can i get that up and running?
Thanks
Tim
Hi,
I'm currently running navigon 6.1.5 on my P3300 with WM6 (NewArtemis2). Every now and then I'm getting the message that my memory is full. At that moment I can choose to end different programs. Normally or MN6 or phone. Because I'm using navigation I choose telephone. Then after a few minutes I'm getting a network faillure and MN6 ends.
Is this a known problem and if it is, is there a sollution for it?
Thanks for your help.
Paul
Bringing up an old topic again.
I tried to install Navigon MN6.2 on my artemis. Everything goes well, except for the images on the screen, it's far from smooth.
How did other people manage to run MN6.2 to run smoothly on there Artemis?

tom tom 6 wont recognise inbuilt gps

... can someone give me the settings to fix this problem, and also an english lanuage voice, thanks
Other NMEA GPS recever Baud Speed to 9600 on Com 4 should work fine. You can download a voice from www.tomtom.com go to the Plus section of the site and select voices, the built in ones are available for download, what happened to your original? - Mike
thanks for the help, dont know what happened but they all came up not installedhad a look at the extended rom and tried to run the cab but it wouldnt run, but al should be fine now thanks
the gps still wont work, what settings do you have in the gps applet in settings? i cant select com 4 in tom tom what comes up is com9 gps com0 com2 and serial, no matter what it is set to in the gps settings
I think you need tom tom 6.02 to recognize the internal gps.
I'm using tomtom 6.010 and it works perfectly on Xda Orbit.
Settings in Orbit
Program GPS: Com 4
Hardware GPS: None, baud rate 9600
Tick Manage GPS Automatically
Settings in tomtom
Select "Other NMEA GPS Receiver" 9600 on Com 4.
Have you been to the Tomtom options>preferences>GPS>configure yet? maybe that's your problem ??
Mine is set to com 4 by default in the prefs and In built GPS in the TomTom settings. Hope it helps.
EDIT:
Also bear in mind that the program will take about 30 secs to recognize the built in GPS and then it will take around 45 secs to get a signal outside so give it time too

With 6.02 it takes about 10 seconds for a cold start to get a lock and 3 seconds for a hot start. It uses the QuickGPS files! Mine has usually got a fix by the time I've loaded TomTom and opened the satelite info page!
Phil
I have :
Software tab : port : com4
hardware tab : port not set, speed 4800 bauds
Acces tab : select the item
These are the settings with were set when I bouth the device.

QuickGPS files ?????
Quick GPS is an application on the HTC Artemis and MDA-C-III (Not too sure about the Orbit as I haven't had a chance to mess around with one yet).
It uses the internet or GPRS connection to download a tiny database every 72 hours to speed up the GPS signal acquisition. It is in program files on the device if you have one - Mike
Got It working in the end Couple of Restarts got it going. and to clarify the orbit does Have the Quick GPS aplication, thank you all for your Help

First, make sure your Quick GPS is up to date ( although I'm not really sure just how effective quick gps is, I'm sure I've had a signal without updating in about the same amount of time)
On your MDA, go to Settings/Sytem/GPS.
Click on GPS and in Programs tab, set GPS program port to 'COM4'
Click Hardware tab, set GPS hardware port to '(None)', and set Baud rate to
'4800'.
Click Access tab, tick box for 'Manage GPS automatically (recommended)'
Load Tomtom and go into the GPS Receiver configure screen. Select Other NMEA GPS receiver. Next screen, slide GPS baud rate to 4800 if it isn't already at that. Click done. Next screen, highlight COM4 if it isn't already highlighted, then click on COM4 and it'll bring you to the next screen which shows your current GPS Status.
Make sure you are outside to get a signal. It can take anything from 2 minutes or longer. Mine rarely gets a signal before 2 minutes and sometimes much longer. Some people are very lucky and manage to get a signal within a few seconds, though I've no idea how they manage that.
Also, I've just replaced Navigator 6 with Navigator 7 which is essentially the same but with some different colours, splash screen and one or two additions in the change preferences menus. However, it has a new feature in the GPS Receiver screen which might be useful. It now has Built-in GPS receiver and there seems to be nothing to set after clicking on that. I'm going to go test it now, see if it's any faster or works at all.
I DID IT YAYEE!!
For HTC TOUCH HD TOMTOM6 i chose 9600 and com2 and its now working.
In mobiles setting i turned all com to none..
cheers!!

Hi,
I got Quick GPS updated through Activesync
in Settings/System, I have External GPS... not GPS
In External GPS, I did what you suggested.
Same with TT too
I am still not able to get a lock.
It still get "Waiting for a valid GPS signal..."
What more can I try?
Do I need an external antenna?

test gps chipset functionality

Hi there,
Is there a way i can test if the gps chipset on my new p3300 is working properly?. I installed Iguidance but it will never get a fix although it does auto detect the gps port . I ran quickgps over wifi and despite downloading the latest fixes, Iguidance fails to get a fix
I am looking for any freeware appz which can just tap into the gps receiver and start spitting some data so i can be assured its not the gps module but Iguidance. Something like a gps viewer which displays the # of sats, lat n longitudes etc.
I appreciate any help I can get as I have only 2 more days before i can get this device exchanged.
Thanks in advance!~
btw, I am running Wm6 using B&b3.7 rom
Search on google for visualgpsce.
Bye
Grab a copy of the TT GPS Driver 2,06 from here http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=13 install that as it is an application in its own right.
Fire up the application on the Artemis and select the GPS tab in the application Use the following Settings:
Top drop down box "NMEA 0183v2 9600"
Second drop box "COM4"
Make sure the two sliders in the middle of the screen are to the right, then check the grey/ blue box top left, return to the "Status" tab and take the unit outside, you should see some activity and get a position fix after a couple of mins - Mike
Thank you guys so much..
After running the app, i got 12 sats in view and 7 fix. So w00t, the gps chip is working.
Now to figure out whats wrong with iguidance
Thanks again...
Not too sure about that app as I have not tried it (yet) - does the GPS hardware actually start when you fire up the application - if you can configure it to use COM4, Baud 9600 do so and try it again. The indication the GPS has fired up is down to the LEDs on the device, once started it will flash orange to signify its in use. If this doesn't happen you might need to look into using Fransons GPS Gate to present a virtual GPS port to the application - Mike
Well, I do see the orange light blinking when Iguidance is running but still sees no sat's.
I even upgraded to V3.01 and same issue. Also tried Franson gate app and no luck.
I could try tomtom since that appz does see the sats and gets a fix ( tried it using a free US map) but i am having trouble loading the N.A+canada map since i don't have the cab file for it just the extracted map files which Tomtom HOME will refuse to load unless its a cab file i believe
Off to google to hunt on instructions on how to make cab files...
last time i checked iguidance v3 wasn't compatible with the artemis.
Oh ic. I did come across a couple of posts reflecting the same .
Oh well..I loved the map loader feature of Iguidance. Sad to see its gone in the upcoming V4.
Anyways I got tomtom running.. i was suppose to have the maps in the root folder of the memory card not in a sub-folder !

Map King GPS

Hi,
I have HTC P3300 with WM6. I have got pre-installed Map-King with the mobile. The Map King software is activated & registered as well.
How do i use this software? I do not have any external antenna installed. Quick GPS does downloads updates every 3 days. This software is not giving any real time data.
Regards,
Vinay
I dont know mapking but i gess is like any other GPS Software. You have an internal antena for GPS that works fine, so if your software, MapKing doesnt detect the GPS receiver open the gps settings and select the port COM4 and baud rate 9600.
Hope this helps. Have a nice day.
