a completely naked rom. - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

Hey,
Quick question, what is the most "Naked" rom available? I mean No manilla, No Titanium, no add ons (well maybe a few will not bother me)
I'm using energyrom right now (its ok, nothing special, but good, crashes a lot or slows down, apart from that its great) and love the Cloudy roms, they;re my personal fave, BUT I want a completely clean rom (I used to use panosha's roms which were amazing but after 2.4 they were "discontinued" lol ).
I would make one myself but don't want to risk bricking my device, and we can basically get every file we need by a cabinet install anyway I just need a very clean rom!
So basically, it would be nice if someone could direct me to the Cleanest/Lightest/Most Naked Rom! It doesn't matter if it is Win Mo 6.5 or 6.1.
Thanks
Aman
PS. the reason I don't want TF3D or Titanium is because I like the PointUI interface the best in terms of speed and functionality (check pointui.com) and its free, looks stunning if you get a good background and full screen via the customise screen!

I cant remember Da Dui ROM is a vanilla one or not, i've been a few.
Anyway, you should look for a kitchen, which been posted a few developers (yozgatg, mondilv or lobsterdave) in the forum, and remove the manila package and the rest that not necessary to you.
however, the only way to be sure is to build your own one. a naked ROM is not hard to build.

Hmm I would make my own, but I don't know the first thing about cooking a rom! I've tried to read it, but I don't know what kitchen to use (i've seen a few, but didnt really understand some of the apps)
Also, are there any good tutorials?

Best / Reliable 6.1 Roms

Hello, I see a handful on 6.1 Roms in here. Short of loading each one of them. Which is more reliable or keeps on top of updates if needed?

u have to load each because each user here may have a different experience with each because for me one rom maybe perfect next person may crash left and right and so on so only way to know is trying each like i like pvh 19400 although am now trying pvh19900
To a fellow OK State alumn, I have tested at least a dozen different 6.1 ROMS and this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=376223
has been the cleanest, fastest, and most stable one for me. Just add the applications you want.
Much thanks! Yea thats the one i was toying around with. There are so many apps out there. I dont know where to start. and which ones would tailor towards my use.
i downloaded and tried them all,
Quite happy with the one ive got now, many have loads of apps but you start to loose available RAM when that happens.
best just to try a few and see which one best suits what you want to do, suggestion though is to keep your PIM and other things backed up incase you need to do a hard reset in the event of a freeze
Just keep on this forum as often as you can. It took me months to find out what I wanted and what worked. Just be patient and play around. It is more of a hobby to me than anything.
less questions and read read read the thread posts!! try a few with features u like! all the cooks have great roms if u know how to use them....
Best ROM
I have install and test almost all the WM 6.1 ROMS.
Like the other guys say you really have to test out a ROM as you might like some features over others.
In my time i have found the following:
TNT ROM WM6.1 to be the best all rounder - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=376945
Only thing i don't like about it is the startup speed. Every with the animation disabled and the network auto config it still makes a good long while.
Blinky ROM WM 6.1 Super fast and really cool - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=383751
My favourite ROM so far but does not come with many applications
im using pays rom 6.1, use it for a month now. stable and quite fast

Its what I have and his review is spot on. Its very fast, probably the fastest I have ever used and incredibly fast startup time. It was missing many of the programs I like but thankfully I already had them on my storage card from playing with a Schaps Lite ROM a while back. I think my last changes will be a flashlight software like vjcandela and something better for BT transfers but all in all this is a great ROM and will definitely keep me happy until the next Schaps is released.
I like PDAViet build 19900... It is SOOOOOOOOO fast and had a remarkable 28Mb of ram left after installing it with almost 70Mb storage memory. Now down to about 25MB ram and 45Mb storage as I've put a heap of 3rd party apps on...Cheers...
the last Binky 6.1 WM 3.5 is a great slim one and you have the possibility to install your own apps after flashing
but guys, I can't beam files using the f***ing IR port... anyidea about it?

I'm trying to upgrade my JasJam to a more recent WM6.1 build but lots of roms are available

what's good for me does not always mean good for you !!!!
I know Zocster but people are ALWAYS gonna ask.....
I like PDACorner V18 or V25. PDAViet are also good as well. Most of the roms I find are excellant but there are a few that don't seem to like my Hermes. Apps I like or setups I use render them unstable. You REALLY need to try them out and see if you like them for yourself. Asking people is great but you are not gonna get the info you need, just personal opinions that are gonna leave you where you are now.
Read whats in them and see what people say on the threads and then
try the roms out.. If there is something that causes problems it soon is made apparent so the chefs can fix it later or others offer solutions.
Cheers...
well said Zocster
"wnat is good for me is may not be good for you"
Everyone needs to find what is best for his Hermis. All the so called best ROMs are not good for my Hermis 300. I go back to naked3d or MRH 8.4 again and again after testing CRC and PDAcroner pro.
Why deprive yourself of the hours of fun and entertainment, not to mention the learning experience of de-bricking your phone several times?
Try every ROM available and see which one you like.
Or just start with the latest and work backwards - they're all good.
I think the next...
As already been told the best ROM meens the custom ROM for you. Before times I used to have a ROM with as more function as I found. But now I prefer to have with less functions for not to overload ROM. After I install the programs I need. Overmore, I save "cab" files of programs I need in memory card. In latest days I use to have Device Update cab. Install it and use it. good one.
Although I agree that it is best to try as many roms as possible, it is not the real "best" option for all. I mean, not all people are as tech capable as the others. The risk of converting your phone into junk is increasing with every flash you dare. Only recently, my sister totally bricked her imate sp5. Only reason being the frequent and according to me the "unnecessary" flashes.
Therefore, I recommend the following path for anybody who doesn't want to risk his expensive toy:
* Read the recent ROM release threads. Try to read 3 or 4 recent threads. That is usually enough.
* Don't read the whole thread. Read the first few posts by the ROM chef. They usually include the pro's and con's of the ROM. Also the known issues. Also bug fixes. That is usually all you need to know.
* Decide whether you want a naked ROM or a bloated ROM. A naked ROM is simple, clean and has a lot of storage space for your programs. But it lacks functionality that you need to install yourself. A bloated ROM comes with oodles of software that you will possibly never use. But you will also need less time after the flash to get it working. Most things will already be there.
* Check the interface. Is it the stock WM6 interface? HTC Home? Manilla 2D? Which one do you prefer. Remember that Manilla 2D means beta, means less memory, means more freezes and crashes. But it looks awesome
* Plan ahead. What do you want to see in your today screen? Which ROM already has what you want? If you want your appointments in the today screen, then don't flash a Manilla ROM. You want a big digital clock? Go with HTC Home. Or try a naked ROM with Pocket Digital Clock. Although other programs do fancy things, such as flash, opera, htc album, etc. you end up using the today screen most of your time. So pay attention to the default today screen.
* Check the most recent posts in the thread. They contain valuable information such as recently discovered problems and their fixes. They also contain performance and stability related reviews of users.
* IMPORTANT!!! Decide whether you really need a new ROM. Don't just flash for the sake of flashing, if you can't afford a new device, then don't flash. Because at the end of the flashing process, you may have a brick in your hands instead of your lovely Hermes. This is rare, but it happens. Although there are ways for recovering a flash, these may or may not work for you. And even if they would work, they may be quite difficult to follow.
As usual my favorite Schap's 4.41!
best rom for hermes
crc's are good roms also herpes rom PC_Pro.V20 ( no i havent spelt that wrong!) just check out the benchmark page some are good some are bad its trial and error really get flashing
After trying several ROMs
I think that PDA Viet V25 is the best (for me), after using it for several days now I didn't need to make a single soft reset and it is fast

The DREAM Excalibur ROM (Comparison thread)

I am writing this thread in the hopes that someone will build the perfect ROM. I have superficially compared two populars ROMs and hope someone combines them or teaches me how.
Comparison between:
Vanilla ROM (RUU_Excalibur_WM61_Kavana_Rickys_v24_Vanilla)[/COLOR]
&
Energy ROM (EnergyROM 1.0 052409 Excalibur)
VANILLA-Font options for date & time panel
ENERGY-No option to modify font
VANILLA-Panels are opaque
A lot of pre-installed panels
ENERGY-Panel are glass clear
(Nice!)
VANILLA-No reboot option on power button
ENERGY-Nicer power button menu
VANILLA-Same available Memory (About 19-21megs)
ENERGY-Same available Memory (About 19-21megs)
VANILLA-Old standard start menu icons
(Though, when going over icon, image changes)
ENERGY-Very nice start menu icons
(static images)
VANILLA-Better Sim Manager
ENERGY-Limited, at best
VANILLA-3 Alarms (My Razr had a better alarm program)
ENERGY-2 Alarms (My Razr had a better alarm program)
VANILLA-Flash Player
ENERGY-No Flash Player(no biggie, easy to install)
VANILLA-Plays Mp4 with audio and video
WM Media Player ver 10.3 Build 19700
ENERGY-Does not
WM Media Player plays video, but not audio.
WM Media Player ver 10.3 Build 21048
TCPMP play audio and not video
VANILLA-Old HTC Audio Manager Version 1.02
ENERGY-Newer NICER Version 2.0
VANILLA-Audio Recorder, saves to phone or storage card
ENERGY-Audio Recorder, does not save to device or storage
VANILLA-Picture Viewer, but no HTC Album manager
(Bummer)
ENERGY-Picture Viewer and HTC Album manager
(Very nice addition)
VANILLA-Resco Explorer
ENERGY-Total Commander
VANILLA-Old standard volume indicator screen
ENERGY-Nice volume indicator screen
VANILLA-2 note pad programs
ENERGY-No note pad program
VANILLA-No streaming media
ENERGY-HTC Streaming Media ver 3.10h(yeah baby!)
VANILLA-Annoying jogger indicator on home screen
ENERGY-clean
VANILLA-Voice Command access's program, but doesn't run it, or dial the contact
ENERGY-Voice Command does both
After trying both of these I have decided that these are the best out of the bunch. Please help to build the ULTIMATE ROM.
I. Love. Energyrom.
I agree. The ENERGY ROM, while not perfect (yet), is really the best I've used. Great work!
No offense, but this threat is meaningless.

Fist bit yes this is meaningless...... As there are not too many ROMs to flash them all and find the one you want and most of the cons on v.24 Vanilla can be sorted like panel and streaming media etc.
v.24 Vanilla is not outdated and still used by many people you can still tweak it a hell of alot and have a large device memory and pagepooled it works very well............. Yes it may not be fresh but then does that always matter?

It's ok Stylez , we know that v24 vanilla is not outdated , shoot , there's people still using the original Kavana 6.1 rom that wouldn't change it for anything else.
If my Pagepooled Vanilla rom with 24m ram and 20m rom storage and the high level of customization is outdated, then I guess I'm oldschool.
Meaningless?
I would suggest that include the Rose ROM into the mix as well. There are some things that I would like to see in the Rose ROM from Energy ROM. The icons are really neat. I have used several of the roms put up on XDA and am, by no means, an expert.

I have tried many of the ROM's myself over the last few months and I use the Vanilla rom still currently. The vanilla rom just happened to be the last one I flashed on my dash. The other ROM's have some nice things about them but at the same time there are things that I did not like at the same time. It really just boils down to your preference on features.
I have decided to start building my own...I don't really know how long it will take, but I'll eventually post it...

Yeah... It IS outdated. But then again, the phone itself is outdated as hell too.. so...... it's a moot point I guess.
It's funny that the guy is comparing two ROMs made by me... LOL
****, if you guys REALLY want the best ROM for the Excalibur, I am willing to build it. Give me a list of all your wants and needs(along with files or cabs if possible) and I will build the ROM. That part is easy... Keeping tracking with what everybody wants is hard

How about a new excalibur rom using the m2d homescreen with the best programs from the energy rom and the 6.1 kavana's/rickwyatt's/nrg's rose roms?
That would be awesome! Just throwing an idea out there.

htc hd2 touchflo on at&t tilt2

I am a little new to XDA...but I cant really find a straight answer to a question I have.
I just purchased the tilt2...love it. Unfortunately, I watched videos on the new hd2, and while I don't want the phone....gotta have my keyboard....I think a couple of the touchflo tabs make MUCH more sense.
So basically, I am wondering if cooks on here feel that at some point they will be able to offer some of those features in .cab files?
I dont want a whole new rom, I tried that on my original tilt...and it just never worked perfect, gps problems, some menus didnt look right. I really just want the phone to work perfectly like at&t intended...but with the new contacts tab, email tab, and maybe the new home screen that allows weather backgrounds and I believe allows a couple contacts straight on it.
Anyway...based on how people have been able to pull apart software for these phones...does this sound possible? or is touchflo simply too complicated to only pull parts of it out? I wouldnt want to simply entirely replace my at&t tilt 2 touchflo version with the hd2 version because I have heard that you would lose landscape mode for touchflo?
Anyway...just wondering if I can hope for this...or if I simply need to accept what I have until the touch pro 3 comes out?
p.s. I am assuming I would need that new version for what I wanted..unless hacks are possible? Basically I love the new email tab that allows you to read your emails right from there instead of showing them in an envelope.
I like the new contacts tab much better....more functional than that rotating carousel thing.
New today screen is nice with the weather background...and I like the idea of contacts on that screen.
No, you aren't going be able to change your TF3D with a simple .cab file.
It would require the flashing of a new ROM.
the HD2 'Sense' interface is Manila 2.5 and is in many ROMs over at the development section. Since Manila 2.5 is only designed for the HD2, when using the interface there is no landscape support for when the keyboard is slid out.
No one in xda-deveolopers has shown the ability to be able to take some features from Manila 2.1 and mix them with 2.5. If they could, I'm sure HTC would hire them in a heartbeat. HTC has an entire team of paid workers that create the Manilas. It takes time and skill and LOTS of work.
I would recommend just flashing a good Manila 2.1 ROM. Get rid of your AT&T bloatware. NGRZ's Photon ROM (in my signature) is a good place to start. It is very fast, stable, and comes preloaded with a ton of useful apps.
You will have less problems with his ROM than AT&T's stock ROM.

Thank you for the response...I figured that was the case.
So let me ask you...I am very nervous about flashing the ROM on my brand new expensive phone. My main concerns:
1. Is their an easy way to go back to the stock setup?
2. When i flashed my first tilt, I had radio problems that never really got fixed
3. What advantage does that ROM have over the stock...other than space? I find the stock ROM has pretty decent speed honestly
4. My main concern: I don't like losing any of the functionality of the stock ROM...I actually like the default ATT opera page, etc.
5. If I could find a ROM that would simply remove things like the ATT mall, but otherwise leave everything else stock..and work just as good as stock...gps, opera, keyboard mapping, etc. I would do it. Oh...I wouldnt mind having custom wallpaper on all tabs.

Here's some feedback:
1. Right now, no -- since the Tilt2 has just been released, many folks are waiting for someone to successfully dump the stock ROM in case we need to go back.
2. Many of the custom ROMs do not include a new radio -- you'll just have to read up and decide which ones you like.
3. Every custom ROM has a different advantage. In some cases its visual, in other cases speed, stability, and some are just highly experimental with features taken from other phones.
4/5. Again since the Tilt2 is so new, give it a little time. Usually there are some chefs who feel the same way you do and will use a stock ROM and just make minor tweaks like taking out some unnecessary bloat and adding some useful programs.
I would recommend if the stock ROM is working ok for you, to stick with it for the time being until some more ATT specific ROMs start getting developed and you find one that will suit your individual needs.

4/5. Perfect, thats a great answer for me. I think that's what I really want is a stock ROM with some tweaks for speed and bloat.
A. Does a stock tweaked ROM usually mean I dont need to worry about fiddling with radios? and the GPS and stuff works just like stock?
B. Any specific ROM chefs that you know of that I should follow that typically do these types of ROMs?
oh..this is unrelated, but does anyone know why I am having issues running software that seems to work fine on other touch pro 2's...I keep getting errors about .net versions being wrong. I tried installing the .net compact package from Microsoft..but it just says it fails during install. This is kind of a pain because I can't get some really common apps to install.

Suggestions for a ROM for me. Please! Anything is appreciated!

Hey guys, school just finished so I have finally had time to play with my phone and mess with apps/ROMs. I used to run the Energy ROM, i flashed up to the new energy ROM but there wasn't anything i liked about it. Except I loved the Start button in the bottom row along with the soft keys. I have also tried the Valkyrie ROM (didn't like it at all) and the Leo Evo ROM, which was pretty nice except it runs slow and it seems kind of glitchy. In about 30 of straight use, I had to run a couple of soft restarts. Other than that I wouldn't mind the LEO Evo ROM.
I liked the older Energy ROM i was on, however I really want the Start button in the bottom left hand corner. I was trying to look for a cab for this, but was unsuccessful.
I wouldn't be opposed to trying a different ROM Im open to anything. I typically like to run the Windows Titanium screen because it runs faster than Sense for me, im a big texter, and I don't have data plan, so I need easy WiFi setup and workability (although this is no problem with the Keyboard Controller, I have it set to the back mute key, finally found a use for it, eh? haha). So lets hear what you guys got for me!
EDIT: Also, Is there a way to access the task manager with the Start button in the bottom left corner, besides going to start, then tools then task manger or whatever
I was also looking into the Titanizer, anyone know anything about how well it works? Thanks
I went through a few roms before installing Leo Cell Evo 9.1 (23XXX Build). While I was happy with roms I went through first, I was impressed with the Leo Cell Evo rom. There are so many things that you can customize to make it truly yours. You can also stick with how it installs and be more than satisfied with it. In the rom, the "Tweak Tools" are available under the programs tab and all the options are there. 3 thumbs up from me.
I have had good luck with the Energy roms with Titanium only. In order to get the start menu button in the bottom curtain you just need to flash a rom with a build in the 23xxx series. The 21xxx series roms are with the start menu on the top curtain. I find the 21xxx roms to be more stable and I like having the task manager at my disposal and to be able to take a quick glance at my memory usage as well with the 21xxx rom.

Wow, I like almost everything about the NRG ROMs. I would suggest that you pick your ROM and then stay with it for a week or so to get to know how it works. NRG ROMS in particular need to be tuned to make battery life longer, and the battery gauge is not so accurate for the first few days. I like the tools that he cooks into the ROM.
Yeah well with the 23xxx series, I was really satisfied withe the NRG with the bottom start menu but there were a lot of things that glitched here and there. Like for some reason, it took me forever to try to get rid of the keyboard once it came up in total commander or something like that.
This is what I have stuck to the longest so far. I have little things that bother me a lot, thats why I have been flashing a lot. Along with using the Titanium theme I use an app from the Marketplace called "Home Screen Customizer" which lets you remove and reorganize your ascreen and add an "Apps" page. I also threw in a Facebook and MS Office tab from the second link. But I think my final decision is cooking this ROM in the link with some apps and games from other ROMs. I'm not looking forward to all the work though. haha.

If you want the start menu in the left corner (windows 6.5.3 or 6.5.5) And the taskmanager linked with the start button, you should really check out the valkyre roms again.
Espescially this version valkyrie.ftp v6.5.23115tr2.5 25th april wm6.5.5 without extra tabbs. This is one of the fastest and most stable roms you are going to find here for the rhodium.
You said you didn't like that rom, what didn't you like about it? If don't like the layout, you always change it yourself. But if you want a really stable and fast rom, you should check it out again.
Ark's Rhodium roms are my absolute favorite.

i have used EnergyROM since February (Thats when i got my Rhodium) but Ark's roms are the fastest, cleanest, and overall best for battery life I have found. I love it. I highly highly highly recommend it if you like the stock look but a custom feel with a super fast shot of adrenaline in there!
If you get the HTC Messaging Client one then I suggest you install the newer version of it via CAB (if i find it, i'll post it here) because the new 2014 revisions of the HTC Messaging Client are faster-- i mean, if you text

its not so much the layout as the little things that bug me. I tried that built you suggested and it was nice but for some reason it always sent me a confirmation text saying that my last text I sent out was sent. I tried disabling it when I went into Message Options- then uncheck the box for delivery confirmation. I posted on the Valkyrie thread about it maybe there is a fix for it. I tried different styles but I like the standard threaded SMS (similar to the 6.1 style).
and shishir95, I tried to look at that ROM you suggested and I had to make a htcpedia account and I did not get a confirmation of my account yet.. I did look at some of the ROMs and apps and im awaiting my confirmation now
