850/1900 Mhz 3G via updated ROM ? - Hero, G2 Touch Android Development

According to my close friend from german T-Mobile, all GSM based Heros worldwide will have exactly same hardware. The only difference will be radio ROM version which determines 3G operating frequencies.
However, launch dates for NA are still unknown.

http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/07/02/htc-hero-hits-fcc-with-us-3g/
thats a possibility but we wont know untill a hero is released in NA and we extract the rom unless some one has disasembled their hero to see.

If this is actualy true, than i guess ill just keep my Hero and wait for a rom however i want someone to comfirm that is ratther possible.

I would guess that the frequencies are controlled by the baseband firmware, so theoretically that could be changed. But since the FCC approves only whole devices I'm pretty sure that distributing such an update would be illegal for HTC. So I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for one

We wont know for a while, but so far this has not been true on any HTC device so far, so i doubt it will be for this one... i think volker is right that it is the baseband firmware that is different. and as far as i know, the radio ROM does not change teh firmware of the baseband chip. however, i don't build the things, so i could be wrong!

Anyone know when HTC might release WM6.5 for my TP2?

I have the Hong Kong English version of the TP2, for which WM6.5 apparently still hasn't been released. Does anyone have any idea when it might happen?
I contacted HTC and they said that they are relasing updates one by one for areas in the world. In their official statement they say that the updates will be available between october and mid november so i guess november is my best guess.
Here's the official email:
2009/10/30 08:23 Pete (Europe Support (Tech))
Thanks for your email.
Your devices is an Eastern European device, and as such, we have not yet uploaded the ROM update for your device. With the millions of phones that we sell, we have to stagger the release of the different ROMs over several days so while i understand this must be a little frustrating, I am afraid you will need to be a little partient for just a few more days.
The ROM update for your particular device should be available to you from the 11th or 12th of november. It will be available from the current download page, and the serial number will simply begin to work around that date.
best regards,
HTC Technical Support
My phone's SN# starts with ht96 that is (obviously) not supported yes.
I have found on this forum a post with ht95nll00167 SN# that works fine.
Even if HTC states, it is not for my region - it works fine (except for memory leaks of course, but this is a long story with HTC...).
I know about that SN that works. I used it also but unfortunately you still cant update because the updater wont let you. Dont worry, by mid November every EU device is going to have a wm 6.5 upgrade.
There was no issue during upgrading as I use so called GoldCard created with QMAT (http://www.revskills.de). One have to pay 20EUR but it is definitely worth of it's price.
Now HardSPL is available so you can use it instead but this way you will affect your guarantee rights while GoldCard is safe ;-)
Release will be 11.11.2009
I'm waiting too for the official rom from HTC. The customer service told me that the update will be available for my phone november 11-12.
I read some feedback tho and it looks like the HTC Touch Pro2 with WM 6.5 is really sloppy and the lag became an issue. Anyone tried it with the official rom? I'm not sure the feedback i read came from cooked roms or the official one.
I'm not yet sure if i will upgrade my phone at this point.
Also anyone knows if in WM 6.5 windows live and the messenger have been upgraded?
Thanks
Lello
I got my phone to a point where its really stable and although I've been using WM 6.5 on my previous phone since spring, i wont be upgrading anymore. I don't want to lose this stability I have now. TouchFlo does its job to hide most of the windows native screens so i'm fine.
It wont be long anyway cause when WM 7 comes out I'll probably get a new device anyway.

My serial starts with HT96... the website says that i don't have he right version to download??
Bought for Australia phone came from Hong Kong.
Hi ! I have a similar issue to Mewsik. The HK-English page says that my phone's serial number of not applicable (It starts with HT98..). But the HK-Chinese page accepts it ! I'm worried that if I flash my ROM with what I download from this page, everything on the phone will switch to Chinese. I bought my phone from ebay. The ROM is 1.19.707.2 (51489) WWE.
Can someone tell me if it is ok to flash this phone with the ROM upgrade available on the HK-Chinese page ? If it's not, how can I download the upgrade from the HK-English page ?

The build number is 2.73.771.73, so it's just a 1.5 ROM.

Yup. Go to a site like www.mediafire.com, and upload it there if you want.
I'm sure someone will root it for you if you post it up here.
thats a shame why release a 1.5 update when htc are SUPPOSED to release 2.1
Well, HTC would have to release it for stock, unbranded heroes before 3 could possible release it (HTC sends the final stock ROM to 3, who test it and add their own [cough]enhancements[/cough](aka. junk).
So, until we see a stock (ie. retail, unbranded) Hero RUU up there, I don't think there is much chance of 2.1
what is H3G?? Why cant I download it? It says it doesnt support my device. Well I have hero, what the hell

Re-installing Official ROM

Hi. Currently my phone's running on Windows Mobile 6.5 but it's not the official released ROM from HTC Support page. I wanna know if it's fine to download the official one from HTC and install it on my phone; which is also WM 6.5.
Thanks.

You should be able to flash back to your stock ROM. Is your phone an unlocked version from HTC or is it a branded version from a carrier? Also if you have hardspl your phone then you can flash any ROM you want..
what phone version do you have? On your phone, what kind of rom is it? Stock rom or cooked rom?

@ the above: Not true, CDMA TP2's are WORLDWIDE which means they have a SIM-slot aswell.
To the OP: If you want to know what kind of device you have, it's pretty simple. Do you put a sim-card in your cellphone? If yes, which operator/carrier? Where are you located?

Yes its GSM (which is the only service provided in saudi arabia and most middle eastern countries)
And yes you can flash to any rom if your device is HardSPL, just make sure its a GSM rom and not a CDMA one.
If you say you got the rom from the page with countries and 6.5 versions, those are official rom releases ( http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Rhodium/Shipped_Roms ) not cooked roms.

YES! That's the link! go ahead and download the official HTC rom for your device and flash it.
As for restoring the original SPL head over to the hardSPL thread and the steps to restore are at the end of the second post.

Thank you sooo much but another question though. The first step on removing HardSPL is flashing the stock ROM. Does that mean I have to flash my phone with its original ROM? Or is it fine with the one that I'm gonna put; which is the official 6.5 from HTC?

Sorry to ask this like a month later, but I had a similar question as the OP. Why wouldn't it be possible if I only wanted to use my phone in Europe on the GSM bands? I've been using it with a ROM for the international phones and it works fine. But I was also wondering if I could flash the newest firmware and 4.4.3 upgrade to use some of the newer ROMs for the international versions, like ARHD 10.2.

I don't think you can convert it over to the international edition, although I could be wrong, since some of the partitions, firmware, and actual hardware (like the CDMA receiver) are different. Given how buggy just some of the ROMs are with the int'l kernel built in, I would be worried about bricking the phone trying to actually convert it to be able to receive OTAs.
What you can do check out some of the ROMs that let you pick which variant to install. After you boot that up once, you'll probably need to reflash the stock VZW kernel (or read around and see if Verizon users got other kernels to work with the ROM). It's kind of trial and error. A lot of times I ended up without wifi or service until I found a kernel that worked.
For updates, (this part sucks) you'll have to wait for the Verizon phones to receive them in the US. Someone usually makes a set a files you can flash since we can't get the OTAs for VZW here and a lot of people don't want to go through the hassle of going back to close to stock to get them. Make a backup, flash those, and go on your way!
But, you'll have to follow the updates and such for VZW phones and then just use a ROM to make it like an int'l versions.
I've been running the int'l version of Paranoid Android and before that ARHD and it's been fine. I used venom and I think n8 before that but it would only install the VZW version so I had to use ROM Cleaner and take out a lot of crap. The roaming triangles were annoying enough that I gave up on venom even though I like the ROM.

Nope, the problem is that I wanted the 32 GB version and most of the online shops had only the 16 GB one. Maybe there is no international 32gb htc one m8..

You should only use custom ROMs that specifically support the Verizon variant. If the option is given in AROMA for carrier version (and VZN is one of those), its got nothing to do with what carrier/region you are located in, but refers to the version M8 you have, which is still Verizon. But you should check the specific ROM thread for details, comments by VZN version users, etc. as devs don't always setup AROMA the same way.
This thread is really old (almost 2 years) and we know a lot more now. FYI, I know its not what you specifically asked, but the topic of the thread is converting to Euro version by flashing firmware, RUU etc. And quite simply and frankly, do not attempt to flash Euro firmware, RUU, or change the CID/MID to do so. Flashing Euro firmware on the VZN variant will result in a radio brick, and the damage may be permanent!

DEV vs WWE

Hi, I have a question.
I have my AT&T phone converted to developer version with 6.12.1540.4 installed.
Everything is good, but I've noticed that WWE update 6.12.401.4_R came with R letter. After some googling I've figured out that R means Rebuild in this case.
So, technically WWE version would work better? Should I convert my phone back to WWE?
Also, in general, what would you suggest to use in US with often travels to Ukraine?

I want to know this as well... Is there any software updates between the WWE and dev edition.
If there isn't then I don't see the point to update but need a concrete answer :/.
I am aware that between .401.4 and _R the only difference was the boot image.
Rebuild or newer, doesn't always mean better.
Both having the same build numbers 6.12 means they are very similar. So I would say no need to change.
From what I understand, 6.20.401 is coming (with some significant updates), not sure if a 1540 build (DevEd) will be coming or not. But that might be more of a reason to change.

The only real difference would be the network band support. So what version is best for US, depends on which carrier you are using (or intend to use); as there are 4 major (and numerous small regional) carriers in the US, which all use slightly different bands for 3G, 4G.
As to what version is best for Ukraine, you will need to find what band your intended carrier uses for 3G and 4G; and what version's radio supports those bands.
