Who here disabled TF3D? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Anyone disabled TF3D and kept the original WM home screen interface? I personally disabled it and kept the original interface even though I don't like how the WM SMS look. I disabled it because I don't like the default TF3D colors and I tried changing it black, but it's a no go. I don't know why! I did change the background and the drop menu all black which looks pretty neat since anything black looks good. What I really want is the WM6.5 Zune interface so I can't wait for WM6.5 official release!!!
Let us know what you have.

TF3D does not appeal to me!
TF3D is pretty, so people "oooo" and "aaah" over the phone and buy it.
However, I still think that TF3D is a bunch of useless kitsch that gets in the way of actually using the phone effectively. After a few hours of it interfering with what I want to do, I turned it off. (At least this time it took a few hours and not a few minutes.)
This is especially true of the messaging (it's just in the way), and the photo album. (who wants to see tiny, slanted, distorted versions of the pictures?) It's been a while, so I cannot remember the other specific things that annoyed me.

TF3D was the first thing I disabled on the device... I don't like that I cannot choose my own programs and way of working.
I use Wisbar Advance and Wisbar Desktop

on my personal Touch HD I much prefered the TouchFLo interface to the standard windows one - saying that, that was running a Dutty ROM
However on my work TP2 - I have it disabled as it gets in the way of my business apps - i.e. MS Communicator etc.

TF3D has bad things an good things.
The biggest failure and that's why TF3D is just crap is because it's not intuitive and easy to use. Way to many steps to get things done, pretty useless taskbar (exepts for the killing programs part). You can do to much information on one screen at the same time and too little. It's nice that they include things like a calendar, but it's pretty useless and in many ways TF3D makes the use of third party software actually harder.
The very good things about touchflo 3d is the push pages, the scheduels, and the best thing is the fueture to see all of your conversation with one contact. I really love it. Next to that it's snappy and pretty.
Well I treid SPB mobile shell 3, but it just doesn't do it. Also many features, but the fact is: when I use my phone it's to get something done pretty quickly. I just want to be able that I have a good view of all the info I need (messages, appointments) in the least ammount of time and to be able to do something in little time. The regular wm is just very easy. Start - settings/programs - choose- done.
Seeing my messages when there is a new one I get a popup and pres view and I there. I do not have to click the task baar. Get a new screen there push on the button, then being transported to the touchflo tab and then have to choose the message.
THats 2 clicks vs 4/5 clicks.

I kept the default TF3d for now, as soon as the official WM 6.5 ROM will be available, I'll switch to the Titanium UI.

I totally agree!

SPB Mobile Shell 3.0. I like having one-touch access to everything I need (email, sms, weather, contacts, favorites, apps, etc...) right on the front page.

An interesting 'Widget' based replacement for TF3D I came on when I was looking around on XDA.
"FEWidgets Ultimate" by nicodega.
It replaces TF3D completely as a 'Today' plugin.
Basically one just has to install the CAB.
(Note: it will not show up under All Programs, but as a Today plugin only)
> Go into Settings> Today>
> Remove check next TF3D
> Enable Check next to FEWidgets Ultimate
Two versions- Large widgets and Small Widgets for anyone who needs a whole bunch of widgets.
I did try it out on my TMO TP2 and both versions basically work when I tested each separately.
Though I haven't tried fine-tuning each widget for my TP2 yet.
Enjoy.

i kept my TP1 and gave the TP2 to Dad whose TmoWing crapped out. Had to disable TF3D for him today. The last straw was contacts/call history will not allow you to dial out, it's link to the phone dialer was broken or something. I don't know if this is a result of a tweak I did or if the Tmo's TF3D version has a bug. After disabling TF3D, you can press the contacts again to call out. For future reference, anyone know the cause/solution?
Like above guy said, now I need a replacement for tf3d. The last version of BatteryStatus that I used was 1.04build266 from this time last year, which has since been replaced by HomeScreenPlusPlus or something like that. Anyone know of a stable version for the TP2? Stable enough for Dad?

Today Plugins
I kept the default TF3D, but with HDWall, because I love the eye-candy of the interface and I find it very intuitive to use. I have also tried other today plugins, such as PointUI Home 2, FEWidgetsUltimate and iPhonetoday, but none of them felt as smooth and easy to use as TF3D for me. Out of the other interfaces I tried I find FEWidgetsUltimate to be the best.
LINK - iPhoneToday
LINK - FEWidgetsUltimate
LINK - HDWall
LINK - PointUI
EDIT: On my previous device I tried SPB Mobile Shell - LINK

I also got rid of TF3D. IMHO that is eye candy for people who don't know how to use a computer - and that is still a large number of people out there using phones. W/o TF3D I get things quicker done and have more flexibility to set up the phone the way I use it best.

Thanks for the link! HDWall and Mobileshell looks nice.

It is VERY usefull for me! I can't use without! I'm bored by WinMo interface.

I too found TF obtrusive and unintuitive so switched it off. I used to use SPB Mobile Shell on the Kaiser and liked it, but I'm a bit fed up of the way it doesn't integrate with Informant and Flexmail, so I'm back to the WM interface and don't miss all the bloat.

New WM UI by PointUI

An interesting development going on at PointUI for a new WM experience. Found it at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354855
thanks for the heads up, looks pretty good
The PoinUI web page is located at: http://www.pointui.com/. According to their posting, the interface will be available shortly.
Just been released and works a treat.
Don't forget to turn off FTouchflo first.
Deva
It is available now and is very smooth! And it works fine with TouchFlo.
Using it now. Probably spend some time today learning to navigate the interface. Initial impression is very good!
I can't do .exe from my work computer. Does anyone have the .cab by chance?
Hi,
Just installed, till now no issues to report.

Here u go a cab file
Greg
its brilliant, tried most things, perfect so far
greg beat me to it....
I like what I see so far, I may just drop the HTC look!
nice fresh UI.. only drawback when running this UI, few of your hardware buttons namely Messaging, IE button, Windows & OK buttons will not work ..it needs some manual re-mapping for hermes I believed.
..other hardware buttons works though..
nonetheless, it is a great program overall
Just the time to be used to and... you cannot imagine working without. Nice tool. I just hope that it will be possible to use all buttons
Very cool interface. I do find the HTC home more efficient, but this is a very fun interface to play with. No problems with operation.
I agree. HTC Home is more efficient. I like the HTC Home tabs. Use them all the time.
Trying to find anything that resembles a configuration page for PointUI. Probably go back to HTC Home.
Experiment is over; went back to HTC Home. Initial impressions were very good. However, when I tried to use it, as I would on a daily basis, it was difficult to get to the things I use.
Probably will monitor the development of this interface to see if it improves below the surface. BTW, it doesn't remove easily. I had to do a restore (Sprite Backup) to get back. I guess there is a benefit in doing a backup before trying new software.
I love the look and feel, if they could fix the button mapping and add a browser with the speed of safari this could definitely squash the iphone. Would be nice to have some other backgrounds too. HTC Home may be more efficient but this way cooler... I'm sticking with it.
Things it needs:
customizable launcher so far that's my only complaint
Comment:
removal was very simple using the update manager program navigate to Home v1.o and select uninstall, very neat and clean.
For some reason the cab didn't work for me, using stock Cingular ROM. Regular installer worked fine tho
I've installed it on 2 devices using different service providers, installation worked ok, very slick navigation. I like it although having used HTC Home and HTC Plus! I would say it does take a little longer to get to specific apps as its not configurable yet.
Here are some observations
1. Would be better if you could select the items on the home page, I don't need weather, I can look out of the window and see what its like today and can look on line for a more accurate forecast if I need it.
2. I have a couple of ICONS in applications and games that error with shellres.dll the error complains about not being signed or a missing component
3. Notifications appear but dissapear and then cannot be re-located, this is a pain with Voicemail if you don't already have SMS alert set.
4. Would like the option to choose a different theme.
5. Why 2 clocks, configuration should allow for either type either analogue or digital.

SPB Mobile Shell 3.0 is released!!!!

get it from their website!!!
"500 - Internal Server Error"
Maybe too many people trying to MS 3
http://rapidshare.com/files/224018311/SpbMobileShell3.arm.cab
Final, 15 day trial, build 6411
The Spb site is really slow...
the bad news.......all the issues that I had before....are still there.
and SPB wonder why we were all so anxious to get our hands on the pre-release so we could test it and give them time to fix the bugs. It seems that they think they know what we want without actually asking us.
haven't experienced any bugs yet, although i fully tested it again.
spb wallpapers
what's about wallpapers for spb mobile shell????
SMS Issue
I have downoaded the trial and is great, really enjoy the way the interfaces works. The problem is when I recieve a text message all teh notifications work but if I try and open the message it won't let me. It gets as far as the in box and then will not go any further, only get to see the first line of the text. If I delete the text and do to deleted items I can then click on the message and it will open fully, alowing me to do whatever I want with it. I f I move it back to the inbox it again blocks me out. Anyone else suffering this?

The wallpapers included with MS3 are 960*748 - I guess, depending on your device, you can create a wallpaper with those dimensions and it should be fine. They can only be applied on the lifestyle homepage, but I am sure in time people will discover ways of having wallpaper for all screens.
How to change wallpaper??
wallpaer - and I love sbp mobile shell
bottom right hand side button on screen (grey), opens up menu at bottom, choose "change background"
I have to say I love this shell, I dispise titanium and TF3D, some love them but each to their own eh.
It even works with davideuk 6.5 rom, i love the use of widgets without having to install anothing else apart from this. It works well, very well in fact. Smooth, fast. Myspace contacts impletmentation works very well, no bugs found yet beyond, only problem is that there are too many ways to get into the same area, too many pages but you get used to it.. oh and if you go into the clock it does not appear to accept changes to date unless you come out and go throug the windows mobile settings page. I give it a 8/10
I have it on trial and will definately buy it when it has ended, it is important to support good developers.
Better and Lighter than touch flo
I insalled it (Trial for 15 days), its wonderfull and the Animation is very smooth that you can't imagine it !!! smoothness like iphone interface and very light and fast (consume less Ram than Touch FLO).
The features and gadgets are great, the weather integration is good but the Touch Flo weather provide Current weather status while this one gives you forecasting for (day, night, Morning).
Its not like touch Flo which is flash content added to the Today Screen as in ITEM ! this one is different and can go back and forth to the Today screen !!
I am now evaluating its stability and if there is no bugs , I will buy it after I finish the trial periods which is 15 days.
mine doesnt work so smooth, like an old Video Card \=
So far it works smoothly and without any problem, memory usage is good, for the battery I am not sure and still testing (IT might drain battery faster than Touch FLO).
I have one problem is I have to use Windows media as Touch FLO Music player is not a standalone program, for the windows media when I open it and play a song the memory usage goes up from 45% to 80% !!!!! very weird !!! I thing the SPB has installed some plugin for windows media and secrewed its memory management !!! when I close windows media memory usage return to normal !!!!
Any Help ?
Great app - small comment
I love it.
It's one of the best WinMo apps.
The only thing I don't like is the kinetic scroll.
I actually prefered those small paging arrows from version 2. They worked better for me, faster and more accurate.
Other than that - great stuff!
No issues so far. You can integrate SPB Weather 2 which offer a lot more info instead of the standard weather. I think the temp displayed is the current temp with that.
The media player stinks and I wish there was an integrated picture browser like TouchFlo. I even miss the stock page but can easily live without it.
I love having both the professional and lifestyle pages, and I love how the background scrolls back and forth on the lifestyle page. It took me about 5 minutes to customize it to a look that I really like.
Also, the scrolling is extremely smooth on my HD.

I like this a lot, it lacks the depth of functionality of TF3D, but hey since it can run with TF3D at the same time you can have best of both worlds.
(I did have to remove it from startup folder to get TouchFlo to start after a soft reset though).

I've been playing with it for the last week and I love it!
One problem though: it drains my battery faster than Touch FLO.
It's a V12! any tips for getting a bit more battery life out of it?
Thank you all!

manila versus spb mobile shell 3

here is something that i need your opinions, and it concerns spb mobile shell 3 and manila. based on what i have seen on the forum, it appeares most people use manila a lot because when ever a cooked rom is released by any one of our master chefs there is always mention of either something not working on manila, and judging by the number of concerns that people have towards manila, it appeares to me that most people actually use it a lot. i myself however the first thing i do, when ever i flash a new rom is to disable touch flo, which i believe is manila and instead use state of the art spb mobile shell 3, however, i just need your own opinions as to why you would just either manila(touch flo) instead of spb mobile shell 3 thanks
i use spb about one month and my opinion is , a very good program!!!!
Personally, I disable TF3D on every rom as well. In fact, I look for the versions without TF3D.
I really like TF3D, how everything is laid out and how it gives really easy access to so much information and ties so deeply into everything... However... it is slow.
Every time I'd start up my device I'd have to load up each tab once into the ram so I'd get fluid movements when I need it. (Contacts tab takes several seconds to load up the first time.) Not only that, I found myself disabling nearly all the tabs. As cool as it was, it was just too heavy for me when I only need really basic information.
I used SPB Mobile shell 2 back on my Hermes for the longest time, nearly the entire lifespan of the device, truly a great program. (That was until TF2D came out, then everything changed.) Allowed really quick access to the most important information without getting in the way of normal windows mobile. Sadly it wasn't very pretty no matter how many skins one tried.
SPB Mobile Shell 3 however, seemed very awkward to me. Accessing simply information was a pain and involved complex maneuvers to get to something that should be very simple. The 3rd version while filled to the brim with eye candy is bloated for me. All I need is a today screen, calendar, contacts and programs. I don't need a carousel nor do I need an absurd amount of buttons or cool animations to get me there either.
My choice:
Titanium on wm6.5
It has enough eye candy for me and is very simple and very fast. I'd kill for a full calendar on the today screen, but thumbcal off the appointments tab does enough for me.
version i tried was ugly, unworthy of the screen and resolution HD has, also confusing, didn't like the layout, contacts look....actually, didn't like anything
TouchFlo is simpler and better looking, really shows the screen in all it's glory and i could spend time just flicking through it to see how pretty and smooth it is, the new calendar, weather tab, people tab, sms tab....i'm shallow :/
now i use Titanium, both pretty and easy to use and customize :/
I prefer Manila. I do not have bugs on my rom. I tried SPB MS 3 but it's not as smooth as manila, no way. Icons has to load every time, then I do not have the "smooth" impression. However, scrolling in MS 3 is very fast.
For now, Manila is the best interface I tried. This is just my personnal opinion, not a judgement of MS 3.
thanks a lot guys i have used spb for a while and i must admit the new version spb 3 is the best and it is very fast as well in my opinion. i think once you learn how to use it, it does become very easy to use, ecspecially the new widgets, but what then are the advantages you guys see in manila

I don`t know which version you have tried, but if it has been version 3, I guess that your comment would be completely opposite. When you try the third version, and you still like better TouchFlo - then it is only question of taste...
it was, it was green, green should be illegal....those tabs at the bottom left and right are ugly, but nothing compared to those icons in between them Contacts tab cannot compare with the TF3D People tab, weather widget cannot compare to the weather tab, point by point it's just not as pretty, glossy, shiny, eye-candy, TF3D and Titanium are both a very functional eye-candy....everything is 1 or 2 pretty icons away
i like things simple but shiny, SPB MS is neither :/

I am using both for about 4 weeks. Spb Mobile Shel 3.0 for work and Manila after work. I wish i could change the taskbar of spb to manila style or even to make the background complete black and not grey so i would use only spb.
I did try them all and right now I am using manila with certain tabs active ... sms, music, internet, photos and vids, progs and thats it. plus sometimes i activate a program that i just keep there for certain times its called winter face a very light smooth application that gives you an iphone like interface and its free.
i used spb keyboard and paid for it and replaced it now with fingerkeyboard which is free but far better and the same happened when i tried spb 2 and 3
now i have no spb application on my HD and i am happier
I think i will stick manila and winterface till i get Titanium on wm6.5 when winmo is officially out

Both TF3d better
I have used both .. answer :
TF3D is more intergrated eg with TXT's pictures and music .
with the shell you have use the phone own txt inbox and not the raher cute scroll in tf3d , this is the same with the music etc..
I want everything in one place .. and if possile not have to see the under bonet ..

Searching for a new HomeScreen

Hi there,
as I am interested in a lite rom with Manila but none of the ones offered here works without any problems, I decided to leave Manila in order to use another HomeScreen.
I have already tried Mobile Shell but I think it's too much and too chaotic. Do you have any suggestions for me?
Thank you!
Not free ... but doesn't look to bad (didn't try it myself).
It's up to you make it chaotic

homescreen++
see here, here and here
don't gett irritated by the former name of the product and the old names of the thread.
homescreen is an excellent today plugin which can do almost everything for you.
id suggest you try PointUI although I dont use it..but it looks very nice..
what I used was various combinations of home plugins:
1. homescreen pluplus - I used this one for battery info and how many minutes I used from my programm
2. SPB wireless monitor, to see how much data I downloded
3. SPB weather...this one is really cool for weather
4. MS plugins like messaging and calendar
5. I tried various clock plugins.....like HTC home, but it sucked in kinda way...kinda messed some stuff so I removed it....
So this combination was very sleek and everything...but I got bored from watching on the same screen over and over again...
I forgot to mention that I actually hated TouchFlo.
But then I flashed duttys and kept the TouchFlo and started to love it
contacts connection with facebook and everything...but I still missed some of my plugins like how many minutes I spent and data trasneferred.so I installed MTP (manila today page) and fun just started..I have touchflo and all the necessary info I need...
I hope that this was at least some kiind of help...

TF3D is too slow for my liking, any better options?

Hi all, its been a while since I posted but I am the former user of the 8125,8525, and 8925 (tilt) and haven't used a pocket pc phone since then. I had my stints with the Fuze & Touch HD but thats another story. Anyways Ive been using the iPhone 3g/3gs for the last year and I recently sold it to purchase the AT&T Tilt 2. I must say although the phone is very good looking and this is the best qwerty I have ever used, the phone lags and it is kinda slow especially comparing phones like the iPhone or BBerry Bold 2. What are my options in terms of Navigating the GUI without TF3D? I remember when I used to own my pocketpc's I used a program called "HTC Home" which was simple, fast, and efficient. Does that program still work on the Rhodium? Do I have any options of using something similar to the TF3d but faster? Or will changing my ROM make the difference up in speed? Let me know what you all think and thanks in advance. Also What does "Manilla" mean?
Dude there are so many ways to have a decent UI without manila go through a lot of the rom threads and read about each one, Most have light versions and a titanium version that eliminate tf3d completely. MANILA= TF3D they are one and the same as I see it, some people might get more technical with you but its like a tilt 2 and a touch pro 2 different names for basically the same thing, minus a few hardware differences when talking devices. Also Give SPB Mobile Shell a try, you can download a trial and if yuo like it can either purchase it or do one of those promotions and get it cheap o pm me and I'll let you know where to find it I myself love tf3d and cant wait till it becomes fully modifyable with the ability to make my own tabs for whatever we see fit, It will happen just gonna take a while and have some genius' coding things so quick links can be installed in the script with copy and paste so its easy for everyone to do. I think there may be a few other 3rd party UIs out there too, so just play around and see what fits you. And if you cant fully uninstall something its not like a hard reset cant be done! Always backup what you dont want to lose.
See here for HTC Home for WVGA/VGA devices.
Buy an HD2
Windows default "titanium" is also very customizable and much less RAM eating than TF3D.
I´ll stay with Manila 2.1 working very smooth for me
I really lost interest in this phone the more I used it - I found tf3d to be too slow... Rather than flash ROMS, I gave SPB Mobile Shell a try. It's awesome! I removed all items from the today screen and just run the shell.
Memory usage is different as well. Before I had to keep it under 50% to get the phone to run. With Mobile Shell I just keep opening programs up to 80% and the interface doesn't lag.
Give it a try...
Want a familiar and friendly (as well as FAAST) interface?
Google iPhoneToday. It's mimics the iPhone interface and is very easy to setup shortcuts and icons.
Simply go t your SETTINGS>TODAY button and disable TF3D and ENABLE iPhoneToday.
I love this interface much better as it's quick and to the point. Also less memory uses than TF3D
