Tmobile forums discussion on winmo 6.5 upgrade - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Thought you guys might want to know that there is discussion on the official T-mobile forums regarding the 6.5 upgrade. I know for a fact that T-mo monitors these forums and the more users that post in the thread the more visibility we will get to our need of the 6.5 upgrade, so sign up, register, and post your desire for 6.5!

That's all well and good, but as soon as we get the HardSPL, it won't matter if it is a T-Mobile WM6.5 ROM or whatnot. XDA will just cook a few different custom builds of WM6.5 and we will load it onto our phones - T-Mobile or not.

Help Me Cut to the Chase

Hi Guys,
There are so many threads and so many responses on those threads that it is really hard to zero in on what is working and what is not.
I would like to get the answer to one of these simple questions:
Is there a link to an official AT&T 8525 WM6 ROM flash?
If not, what WM6 download is available for the 8525?
I am looking for a download that you all feel is working well.
I see links that say official, but if it aint on the HTC site how official is it?
Thanks

To answer your questions....
1. no
2. There are many.
3. This topic has been discussed time and time again. No one can tell you what the best rom for for your device is, because your rom choice is dependent on how you use your device. You have to read the posts in the forum and make your choice. Download and try a few.
4. I can not answer that question, but I can assure you the roms that say that are official are indeed that.
When the word "official" is used for the AT&T ROM, it is meant as one that was sent from HTC to AT&T for consideration and testing. It is not official in the sense that it is released to their customers.
In my test of many WM6 ROMs from this site, I have come across a few that worked really well for the 8525. Most of the Schap ROMs are good. My latest one is from another "cook" and this one is living up to all the hype of very fast and stable. Only 12 hours of testing so far, so too soon to pass judgment.
Check the posts and read for which one you may like best.
There is an unofficial official cingular wm6 Rom, it also increaces the cameras resolution to four megaoixels and increases the storage to 2 gigabytes.
Thats my point...too many choices.
Is there a WM6 flash that works well on the 8525, and is considered stable?
Is the flash for TYTN II appropriate for 8525?

you cannot really tell what is best because everyone here has their own taste. youd have to try one ROM to another until you find one that you like best..

Install Tilt WinMob 6.1 on 8525 what if?

What would happen if I attempted to download (from htc) and install the windows mobile 6.1 update for the tilt on my 8525? I am currently running SPL-2.10.Olipro.. do you thing it would brick the phone? I mean why wouldn't it work? The tilt is a 400mhz process same as the 8525.. only added features on the tilt is the GPS and auto focus camera...Any thoughts? yes I am a noob.

you are welcome to be the first one to try! such old questions that has been answered many many times.
i am not talking about cooked versions.. I am talking about OEM. I rather not be the first one to try but technically what would happen?
first of all the RAM and ROM size is different, it will turn your hermes to a brick ... but again, you're more than welcome to be the first one to try.
well then that is all I needed to know. That is the reason why I can not do it.. cause the ram and the rom size is different. Thank You.
You wont be able to install it. But if you would like to brick your hermes, then go ahead and try it and let us know
GOD DAMN!!! Congrats Men!
The most inspirated question i have heard I come from wizard threads and letme tell you...
The RUU original will tell you ERROR (XXXX) Wrong device or wrong ID or wrong ROM Update Utility
God Damn!!! but if you try to extract the NBF from the exe with winrar...
maybe it's named Ruu_signed.nbf for Hermes... or its calle NK.nbf as in Wizard or maybe is called Dont_extract_me_fool.nbf
Maybe yopu can rename it to RUU Signed.nbf and put it on RUU Wrapper and run it!!!
I know a guy that has an Universal and flash a Custom rom for Wizard on its...
OBVIOUSLY it is bricked!!!! a blank screen only! no Bootloader no hardreset.
So... answered bye

I know that this has been answered--NO but I thought you might like to know a bit more.
1--The hermes uses a completely different chipset and video set up.
2--the ROM and RAM sizes are completely different. The tilt has more than two times the amount that the hermes has
3--The Hermes is a single processor device running a 400Mhz as you stated but the tilt is a dual processor device --one running the os and the other handling the calls to hardware such as the radio and gps.
4--The devices take completely different drivers. You should have researched the specs before asking this type of question.
Finally, winmobile is not like xp. It is not built to handle any hardware you through at it. It is very customized for the hardware on which it is installed. It has to be to fit in the small storage on these devices.
There are 6.1 versions of cooked roms already for the hermes. just use one of those! Better yet, don't ever flash your device because ...well I am sure you can figure out the rest of that sentence!
Tilt is very old phone...
Tilt rom!? such a old phone. Why would you install old phone rom on your nice hermes? Try some new rom ... I know, why don't you try the Diamond rom? I like that one . let us know how it works... Hey, and welcome to XDA forum... allways good to have a another new cook.
I bet you're glad you asked now

Good to have aNNNN another new cook? what da heck? hahaha
Enjoy your fantastic and fabulous thread.... n00bs!!!
I think he wants an original 6.1 on his hermes... thats all... but men why dont you read there is a thread with this question.
I think we all got our noob bashing off our chest and I think the OP has got the message its not a good idea. How bout we drop this pointless thread now.....
Another noob here
I realize that y'all become impatient and annoyed with noobs, but this very question is what led me to this site in the first place. I apologize that I'm just a concerned and inexperienced consumer trying to gain knowledge from the best source I can find online, and that I haven't really mastered searching this site as well as everyone else to find the answers to my dilemma.
I have an AT&T 8525 and HTC told me that they aren't going to do any more updates, and also, no, I can't download the Tilt ROM onto my phone. In fact, they planned to pull the WM 6 ROMs off their site on October 31. I just rechecked the HTC site this evening, and they've removed *all* updates for the 8525 from the page I used to visit. So if I brick my phone by doing some silly noob thing, I can't even go back and get the old WM 6.0 ROM.
I've already had the opportunity to see the new AT&T Fuze since it hit the stores yesterday, but I'm wary of buying it the minute it comes out. I would prefer to lurk for a while and see what the rest of y'all have to say in the Raphael forums before I spend the money.
Please be charitable to people like me who are just trying to be cautious. I love the phone I have because it's been very reliable, but yet it's obvious that there is a "planned obsolescence" for the 8525. Meanwhile, I'm just looking here for something I can do to get WM 6.1 for my 8525 until I'm satisfied that they've gotten the bugs out of the Fuze. I think there's still plenty of life left in my 8525 and you might say I just want to renew my love affair with it.
OK, noob rant over..thanks for your consideration!
Step 1... Install Hard SPL V7 onto your 8525. It helps recover your Hermes if it does go south while doing the update.
Step 2... Look at the WM06 section of the forum. Just about ALL the roms displayed there at the moment are Wm6.1. Read the Chefs writeup about their ROM and see if you like it.
If you did a search with the keywords "Hermes roms" it may have led you back to the original stock ROMs and cooked ROMs. These are pretty old now though.
Cheers...
It doesn't hurt to actually get your own library of ROMs, I made sure I have my stock Telstra rom stored on my hard drive. Since you knew that the stock ROM you use was about to be pulled you should've downloaded it so if something does go wrong you actually have it and don't remain victim to HTC's will. Now it may be harder to find the stock rom you use...

New ROM

Do you have the ROM? Are you 100% sure it even exists as the news over the black edition ended up to be WM6 as posters confirmed here.
all i can find on the t-mo site is wm6.
Edit: 69th post. I don't think that the board is giving me the "satisfaction" that I was expecting from this moment.

Yep, I also loged on tmobile's site and all the're offering as a software update as of today is wm6 . I also searched around and couldn't find any official statement that says tmo usa will use 6.1 on their smartphones. Who knows maybe they'll implement more android phones. I hope they don't deviate from windows mobile.
At&t sent out wm6.1 for my friends duo, I flashed it for her. Come on tmobile wm 6 is a thing of the past!
but unfortunately the Dash is too...with a new one coming soon and no word of any plans to release a 6.1 official I really doubt we will ever see one.
T-mobile 6.1 Codenamed "Sasquatch" I have seen it

The windows mobile 6.5 (news)

Already available for some PPC users, M$ kicked off today @ XDA and got the item removed... Doubt any of the Dash users will see WM6.5 unless someone ports it, as no new ROMs have been officialy produced and not even an official WM6.1...
So we can dream and wait till the Dash 2 and see what we get?
lol @ post above was didn't even read the link

I've tired so many rom, and i use the stock. i can't imagine, why use anybody cooked rom on tp2.
when i had an X1 i never use the stock rom, because most of the cooked rom was fast and don't eats 60-75% of the memory. but all of the cooked rhodium rom does, and slowing my phone after half our.
i read all the time the posts, what the users or cheef wrote about a rom: fast and lite and slight and smooth, and best. and it is'nt. it's bugy and slow and annoying.
so i use the stock and can'wait what can the HTC doing with wm6.5 and new (?) manila 2.1. it'll eating memory and slowing the tp2 too? i don't belive that. maybe i'm naive. then i'll flash back my old never-falling WM6.1 stock rom.

Warranty can be applied as long as you return to original ROM before you send it to repair! so not really a void warranty
I reflashed to a cooked ROM the same day I receive my TP2 and I´m so happy!

Shame to hear your experience.
Here is complete opposite case, official ROM is so heavy and full of crap...
The wait is killing me, I want a cooked rom on my CDMA device....
and you know what else is killing me, the new network coming out on telus, and my phone that won't do 21 Mbps I might have to part ways, I hope something just as good is coming up.

When that appears to be true, I'm eagerly awaiting this update from HTC. But, in all honesty, I intend to not believe that HTC is upgrading WM as well as TF3D to HTC sense. We'll see. Would be great though!!
Edit: BTW where did you read this?
sorry double post...dunno how to delete
may b they will..they have no better alternatives coming for TP2...its only 1 with HW keyboard, and there are no announcments on TP3..which i wonder will b wm7 phone..mean while old hardware on TP2 can do the tricks on sense and keep business users happy for a while
