Why are these MMS images so SMALL!? - HTC Excalibur

I take a picture (1280x1024) with my phone and send it via MMS. It sends. The recipient views a 1280x1024 picture. That person takes a 1280x1024 picture with their phone (Dash, Blackberry, doesn't matter) and I receive something significantly smaller in resolution. W. T. F.

OMG ME TOO! IT IS SOOO FLIPPIN ANNOYING!! WTF!
The image is about 100-275k in size, but when i download it. it becomes 4k....... i mean really now. come on. so annoying!

Bump
10bumps

bump.......

..............................zomg

aaaah!!
thought i was the only one. it drives me crazy. at school all day and all the messed messages of random things from titty and taco tuesday pics to pictures of my sone are ruined. seriously whats the deal? is it just phones with new roms or will the official ones do this as well?

The only thing i can think of doing is going to kavana's rom for 6.1 That's what i am doing right now. I remember it was the only one that didn't screw up MMS.

what photo resolution size do you have selected under mms settings?

i had the biggest rez i could have. but it always showed up as a 4k image size. :/

Any way. I fixed my issue. i just installed Kavana's 6.1 Rom. and boom my MMS nightmare was fixed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=374890

Well Ookba's 6.5 ROM blows Kavana's 6.1 ROM so far out of the water that I won't be flashing again just for an image size issue...
I have set the Resolution setting in MMS settings to 1280x1024 and will see what happens.

it wouldnt rad my 4gb memory card so thats another no as well. but the resolution settings havent changed anything for me. maybe this may be a good question for Ookba.

I'm surprised no Dash user has jumped in here.. This is an age old problem, and usually found in custom ROMs when the cookers forget to change the registry settings for MMS.
Anyway.. I don't have a Dash, so I don't know what your default setting would be. Ask someone with a working MMS to look at the entries in this registry key (or if you have it working under a different ROM, look it up yourself):
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Arcsoft\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\mm1\WspHeader
For my Shadow (HTC Juno), the correct settings are
user-agent: Juno-1.0/arcsoft-mmsua-sp-4.0.0.xx
x-wap profile: http://www.htcmms.com.tw/gen/Juno-1.0.xml
You can try putting this in there too, and I'm pretty sure the pictures will be the right size.

If this is the case and users know that Kavana is correct then this should fix it?
All it is, is the REG mentioned above from Kavana .cab'd up install to Device Memory and soft reset.
Don't know if will work but worth a shot. "if doesn't work uninstall soft reset and all will be back"

haha.. you're welcome guys.. glad i was still checking the forums and was able to provide the help. i've been installing custom roms for years, and keep notes on common problems and how to fix them.

bipinsen/stylez: I will install this and see how it goes. Setting the resolution in the MMS settings did nothing.
I'm assuming trinidad is also using Ookba's 6.5 ROM? If so then I will feel more confident about this.

[FIXED] My First cab - T-Mobile UK customised threaded SMS

Yes, I've finally gotten around to looking into this whole cab making malarkey and while this is an existing one customised to fit my needs, it's a good learning curve
It's the palm threaded SMS app and it just plain rocks - really
So anyway, I've tested this on WM6 (Black 4) and it really works. Everything is already set up in this for using with T-Mobile and MMS works too! It integrates nicely with the HTC homescreen and includes a custom alert tone (hope you like it! )
Just to make sure the install goes OK, please use the task manager to stop the messaging \ poutlook \ tmail processes before you run the cab as I believe this could cause problems.
You will lose your existing SMS and MMS messages in the standard messaging app so if you want to keep them, use PIMBackup first
It's a fantastic app and I recommend giving it ago and if you're on T-Mob, I've just made it a little easier for you
Cheers,
Smiffy.

EDIT 1: Fixed MMS settings
http://rapidshare.com/files/36981262/Lordsmiff_-_Threaded.cab.html
If you ever vist bristol I may be tempted to reward you. thanks.. a handy cab.
Any screen shots of threaded SMS? Also if i uninstall your cab, does everything go back to normal?
Thanks

Good point! Nice work on the cab Lord but some reassurance would be fantastic
Service provider?
Have installed it and its quality. I can't send mms though. In the settings its set to cingular. I've got the tmob settings bar the centre number any ideas?
screen shot
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2006/10/18/treo-750v-threaded-sms-mms-app-hacked-for-all/
looks like that
I'm looking at it now - I did test it on mine first but I think it probably kept the registry settings when I uninstalled it and re-installed it.
As for uninstalling...on my T-Mobile UK MDA Vario II, it uninstalled perfectly and everything reverted to the standard messaging app...BUT, as with anything like this, please don't just take the poster's word for it - use PIMBackup and and back it all up first!! It will most likely work OK, but...sh*t happens ;-)
Smiffy.
Thanks man. Your word is always good enough
OK, there were 2 places in the registry where the MMS settings were stored and I only changed 1 but it's sorted now (tested 3 times ;-)
And no, my word isn't good enough ;-) Back it up!! :-D
Cheers,
Smiffy.
Fixed and fantastic
Think this will quite possibly be the first cab i'll install after future flashes. Intelligent fuctionality.
Cheers Lordsmiff nice work
Forgot to say that when i uninstalled first version my old sms and mms were still there. When i reinstalled the new ones reappeared. Like lordsmiff says back up just in case but it didnt completely remove messages only temporarily when using the app.
You're right, it doesn't remove the old messages, it just uses a different message store but, at the risk of repeating myself ;-) back it up anyway
Which reminds me - if you want to reflash your device and then get all your threaded SMS messages back, you need to backup a file in the Windows folder called "PalmMsgV001" and also a folder in Windows called "MMS"
The file has all the text messages and stuff in and the folder has all the images etc from MMS messages in (I found that out the hard way )
Copy those two to your storage card and then back after a reflash to have everything back in threads
Cheers,
Smiffy.
Moved to rapidshare at mod's request
Anyone have any ideas where better to put it as I know some people (myself included) can't get them during working hours...damn those proxys
Cheers,
Smiffy.
Is it possible to install this threaded sms cab then alter the network settings by installing one of the available operator cabs or does the setting need to be entered manually?
Thanks.
i havent looked at lordsmiff's version... but if its anything like the ones i posted there is a possible issue of mms not working if you enter the settings manually... but his could be different...
There's not much chance of it being too different - it's based on your cab
If you want me to mod it for your provider, I can do that for you
Just PM me the connection details and I'll see what I can do
Cheers,
Smiffy.
i had another thought if you wanted to run with the idea.. i go back to work today so my time is going to be limited again.
The original version where based on the sprint connections, when i extracted all the files from the cingular treo rom and dumped the registry i compared them, i noticed all the reg settings were pretty much the same except for 2 lines and of course all the provider settings. But im thinking that if we left out the hard coded provider settings and allow the user to enter them manually that this may stop the "sometimes" apparent connection issues with MMS. So basically have a generic threaded cab with no provider settings hard coded at all... and if someone wanted to feel ambitious enough they could make cabs with just the hard coded reg settings for different providers (not the whole app)..
Hi!
Sounds great! Can it also be used for a other provider ? If yes; how do I know my settings ?
Does it show a alerts and integrates it good in the HTC Home Screen ?

I really love this app and would like to go back to it. MMS has always worked for me when using shogunmarks version but I think its limited to 300k.
Since your offering lord would you make one for AT&T?

One thing everyone should know when using this app is if you use any kind of app that closes programs like HTC Task Manager for example you need to add the Palm Threaded app to the exclusive list so it does NOT close when pressing x.
What happens a lot of times is most people write their txt msg and just click the x but with the threaded you have to wait until the msg is actually sent.
So the app should be running most of the time..
Hi,
What about the new sms notify; does it show an alerts and integrates it good in the HTC Home Screen ?

Unclear how to install this one. Build_copy.txt has instructions where to copy files from certain folders from the zip archive, but zip archive you uploaded does not have any folder structure, so its just a bunch of files, i can only guess which files to copy...
Code:
a. Copy \Bin\*.* to \Windows
b. Copy \Media\Canned text\*.* to \Program Files\SoftBankMail
c. Copy \Media\Pictures\*.* to \My Documents\My Pictures
d. Copy \Media\Sounds\*.* to \My Documents\

it's from the x04ht dump. the program is resolution-independent except ArcMSGRes.dll. i simply unpacked all the images and icons in ArcMSGRes.dll, made the image size of them half and repacked them into ArcMSGRes.dll. as for emoji, i did not test it since i don't use it...

it's a package for cooking, not for installing as it is. i am sure someone can make a cab out of it. i did not write Build_copy.txt. it was included in the diamond dumped package from the beginning.
there is one thing i don't understand yet. s!mail is integrated as sms in diamond, not as email. i haven't found which part of the dumped rom does the job. so, if you cook it in your rom, it is regarded as an email account...
For cooking? I thought someone made this for testing on other devices, before real cab is made. Maybe we should ask someone with X04HT (or X05HT?) what files are in these folders mentioned in Build_copy.txt in order to make cab. On the other hand, there is one or two xml files in the ZIP, and from there one could get a clue where to put the files and what are required registry settings...
Other interesting stuff, this seems to be Arcsoft MMS client modified for SoftBank... Would like to try this on english ROM as soon as i find some time. Also, i plan to get X05HT soon, wondering if they packed the same thing there as well.

If you have a second quotter (you seem busy), could you answer me a couple of questions?

2) Does this allow sending MMS to a phone number?
3) Are there any other benefits compared to MMSLite that I can't think of?

1) no. Emoji seems to be supported by an extention program, which i have not found yet.
2) yes, but opensoftbank connection will be used.
3) i don't know. what i am trying to do is making a hermes rom like opal. i simply want to share my findings with other qvga device users.
by the way, i found it will insert sms/s!mail options in dialpad, which could mess up your dialpad menu unless you use appropriate dialpad...

Yeah, but that sending MMS to a phone number is a big deal, for me at least. Almost everyone I know using Softbank uses MMS-by-number and as things are now it is a hassle to reply to them.
Just to let people know that the Softbank mail setup under Arcsoft blows mmslite out of the water (and absolutely murders the old Softbank mail app). I too am therefore hoping that a cab will be released soon..... looking forward to trying it on my x05ht as well, with an English rom. Now, only if the emoji problem could be solved...
To Zgembo: Only advantage of X05ht over the x01ht is the screen resolution. As it is the stock Softbank rom generally sucks; it just seems a lot slower than the old x01ht, although it can be tweaked a little (not much though). Really, this is more due to crippled drivers it seems; so blame it on htc. See here before deciding whether to upgrade. Note: the Diamond and Touch Pro HD also suffer from the same problems.

yep, that was one of mmslite's weaknesses. I also hated having to copy the senders number from mmslite and then paste into the sms app to send a reply..... :-(

I was reading about X05HT's stock ROM crappyness, but who would like to stick to stock ROM anyway? Also, being Linux guy, it is really tempting, considering what some guys had achieved with Android on Hermes & Diamond so far. But the real reason for switching is that my X01HT is all but literary falling apart, the poor thing...

Yeah, but there are no graphics drivers for it, so it is more like using windows in safe mode. Does not matter which rom you use. Who knows if this will ever be fixed or not? (I am pissed off, because even flashed roms are slower than my Hermes was; GPS doesn't lock properly, music skips, etc).

you cannot install "this" package on any vga devices since i changed the resolution of all the images. just use the same package retrieved from x04ht/x05ht. for english roms, just make *.0409.mui's for the apps. shouldn't be much difficult since i have been making tons of *.0411.mui's to make full-japanese wm6.1 roms for my x01ht and polaris.
as for emoji, this "app" supports it on x04ht/x05ht. this "package" does not since the emoji function is supported by something else than the package.
I look forward to updates on this thread...
In the meantime, for those who want to send MMS by a softbank number there is an easier way to do it. Save the message you are writing into the Drafts folder, navigate to the folder, then move the message to the Outbox. It will send automatically (at least does on build 303 JP).
If anyone is skilled in writing mortscript it could be convenient here

Hey there,
I got a softbank X05HT from Japan, had to unlock it so it would work in Australia, HardSPL'd it, flashed a new ROM now I was looking for the Softbank ROM again so my girlfriend can use Japanese on it - can anyone direct me to the standard ROM for Softbank please?
EDIT: Actually, I'f prefer it to be in English so I can try to fix it when it has a cow from time to time... but she has many friends back home she's more inclined to keep in touch with... I've got NTAF's ROM and installed the Jap cab... but too hard to work it... probably rather have original ROM and add and English cab to it.. ta

MMS Fixes

So, after seeing way too many posts about it not working, I sacrificed and flashed the stock operator rom and exported the MMS settings that hamper things on a custom rom. Here you all go. I tested it all and it works here! Cheers
What it fixes:
MMS max send size in new message
MMS receive size (issues with the pictures always being shrunk)
How to use:
Extract and import registry file.
How much is the maximum kb u can send? still 300? My mms works fine with a lil edit after flashing custom rom, will try this one out the next time I flash. Thanks
This edits all those sizes and also fixes the super small pictures when you receive them. This is specific to the Rhodium, but I am sure you can use it with the others too.
Any way to get them imported into the registry most editors only support unicode 5 for .reg files? Any incite besides "Use resco explorer" would be greatly appreciated.
hey thanks for this post .. but my problem isnt the size of the mms .. because i cant send or recieve at all. ive gone through all my connections and stuff but i cant get it to work ive googled and searched here and even posted about it but no answers .. noone has had this problem? im using the energy rom its fantasic but this is my only real problem i think its because i have to schange the settings in the arcsorft unfortunately there seems to e noway to access in this rom

this cab will change your MMS settings to the T-Mobile settings, but if you just need to fix the small incoming pics problem you can go to this reg entry:
HKLM\Software\ArcSoft\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\mm1\WspHeader
and change these entries to match:
User-Agent ="Rhodium-1.0/arcsoft-mmsua-5.0.0.xx"

First, you'll need a registry editor app, one of the best free ones is PHM Regedit, and you can grab it here: http://phm-regedit.en.softonic.com/pocketpc
Once you have that, the program will just let you drill down into the registry, and see/edit/create/remove entries easily. It will also let you backup the registry to your memory card before you start tinkering with it, which is HIGHLY recommended

this cab will change your MMS settings to the T-Mobile settings, but if you just need to fix the small incoming pics problem you can go to this reg entry:
HKLM\Software\ArcSoft\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\mm1\WspHeader
and change these entries to match:
User-Agent ="Rhodium-1.0/arcsoft-mmsua-5.0.0.xx"

The issue i have with my Tilt 2 is that some of the pictures i have on my storage card are tiny when I choose to see a picture from the album. I used to have a Fuze and took some of those pictures with that phone, is there a way to have all the pictures on my storage card come out bigger
tried the registry fix, but no luck
Are you sure the other person's phone isn't resizing them before sending? What phone are they being sent from? Have you tried sending one to yourself to test it?
The pictures my wife sends me from her phone are tiny as well, but I'm pretty sure that's because the phone is expecting to send them to a phone with a tiny screen like it has.
Can ne 1 cab this

You're saying that cab didn't work for you? Try the one I have attached here.
try one of these two. they make the received mms pictures bigger.

HTC Official ROM receiving small pictures. Questions...

I have a T-Mobile TP2 and just installed the official HTC ROM. I've installed a couple of cabs but they are not working. It sucks to receive tiny pictures!!! Does anyone know the cab that works well with the latest official HTC ROM?
Last of all, this is the ROM that I downloaded. Is this the latest ROM?
HTC Touch Pro2_RUU_Rhodium_S2_HTC_Europe_2.07.401.1_Radio_Rhodium_4.49.25.91_Signed_Ship
I have T-Mobile service here in the states BTW. Thanks!
Nobody is running the official HTC Official ROM with T-Mobile service and is having the same issue?
search for small MMS and you will find the answer
You will find, that I am kind...

Ok I went to the 2.1 settings and the WspHeader folder is empty, any suggestions ?
Also I want to thank you for helping out DaddyDc instead of being a jerk like some people can be.
if you are using a Tilt 2 on the AT&T network then your settings should work as they are. Is there some reason you are looking to change these settings?

yes all my MMS pics are like 35 by 35pix very small
Same problem here with my stock Tilt2. All pics from anyone except another AT&T come in around 4k, and are so small I have to get out my reading glasses!
Do these workarounds... work... for AT&T? Looks like the setting are all for T-Mo.
I've noticed that the ROM's with HTC Messenger are the ones that are not fully compatible with CAB's/registry mods. I can receive pix and they're of a good size but not full screen. Again, this issue seems to be with ROM's that include HTC Messaging.
If you are using any of the new ROMS (With sense 2.5) check these settings, mine come in fine, tested them by having my daughter send me pix.
Go to All msgs, then menu/settings/options scroll down and check to see if photo resolution is set to original. then hit menu again, go to MMS server. scroll down and check message size limit you should have multiple options (I chose 1024 even though ATT wont allow that), click done and done again, and re-test by sending yourself I full image.
Hi guys!
Can anyone help me out with my prob? I use the latest official DUTCH rom and can send mms just fine. But when i receive and download the file is only 1kb and plays as a slideshow for 5 secs.
I've been searching around for quite a while but can't seem to find a solution. I've tried the trick posted before but that didn't help me out ...
I'm having the same issue when someone who doesn't have ATT sends me a picture message.
