Hey guys, I'm new here and I'm just reading about this custom ROM stuff.
Now I don't have a smartphone yet and I have verizion. I'm really considering getting an HTC Touch Diamond for $99.99, but if I got it, could I use any of the awesome ROMs on here?
I was reading something about GSM and CDMA differences and got rather confused.

Most the Diamond roms I have seen on here are for the GSM model which is the one useful in many parts of the world (including the U.S. with carriers like AT&T and T-mobile). Verizon and Spring use CDMA which is a different type of radio/signal and is not compatible with GSM. And so GSM and CDMA phones have different types of radios and thus require different software to run them. On some other types of phones such as the AT&T Fuze have both CDMA and GSM counterparts and I have seen software on here for both versions. I'm not sure about the Diamond though.

Here's a link to the forum with stuff for the CDMA version of the Diamond, but it doesn't look like there's much there. The beauty of GSM is that lots of developers around the world contribute to the development of the software since the GSM version of the phone is pretty wide-spread (though ironically I still haven't found a stable version of WM 6.5 that I really like).

I found the website, there is another site that offers quite a bit of option for CDMA ROMS though it still doesn't come very close to what's offer here in the GSM site.
Here's the CDMA diamond site I'm talking about in case anyone here has a cdma dimaond.

Hey guys. Just wondering some things here, and can't get an answer anywhere. These same questions are posted all over the web, so please lend a helping hand.
So, there is already one CDMA Version of the Diamond released to Telus, and soon to be Verizon and Sprint. Now heres the question. If I were to buy a CDMA Diamond off the web, one that is used on Telus, can it be used for Alltel, Sprint, or Verizon?
If so, would it be possible to make a ROM to go along with these carriers? I see that there is already a Diamond Kitchen available, so what would have to be done to get one of these phones to work on these carriers? Or is it already possible?

I think the rom would not help because it is hardware. Not too sure though.
u can unlock it but alot of good that will do since its cmda you have to give sprint/verizon your esn and they will have to allow your phone for use on their network and as far as i know they dont allow unlocked phones even if its the same model as one they carry since the esns have to be sprint esns. if im wrong someone feel free to correct me.
verizon said they will open their network so when that happens yes you can.

sprint will let you activate any phone, they just have to load your esn into there system
You can't use a WCDMA Diamond on CDMA networks because of its hardware.
The CDMA version has got a different hardware for make it work on CDMA networks...
I think that actual ROMs for WCDMA Diamond will work on CDMA version... the software part that controls radio hardware is the Radio ROM.
I'm thinking of upgrading to a better rom for my CDMA diamond but I've never done it and the tutorial is for non CDMA phones. Can anyone tell me WHICH ROMS will work on CDMA if any, and what to expect? I also dont understrand fully how the upgrade will effect my carrier specific functions on the phone like Data, SMS/MMS and Calls. I use Cellular South as my carrier and I never see anything about them on the forums. Its usually sprint or alltell when discussing CDMA phones. Sorry for the noob questions but how else you gonna learn right? Now can anyone help?
what means cdma?
CDMA mena sit doesnt take a sim card like GSM phones. Its a different network. I'm sure its way more technical than that but thats the depth of my knowledge

The CDMA Diamond has not been very popular, so XDA-Developers did not create a dedicated subforum for it like we did for the CDMA Raphael.
I suggest following the advice given earlier; check out PPCGeeks.com.
Is there really much of a difference?
I'm in Canada and have been contemplating getting the TP2 from Telus for a while now, but reading up I noticed are versions that do not have CDMA/GSM bundled together?
Is one better than the other? I tried searching around but either my keywords suck or I'm blind becaue i couldnt find another thread like this. sorry if its a repeat (i'm almost sure it is..)

if you are getting a carrier branded, just go with your carrier. all cdma versions of the tp2 have a gsm radio for international usage. if you buy a gsm version of the tp2 (ones without cdma) you can not use it on a cdma network such as telus.
I'd say the biggest difference between them, to the end user, is the absence of the 3.5mm headphone jack on the GSM exclusive versions. As The Jack of Clubs said, just get the version your carrier offers, since it's guaranteed to support all the carrier's features, like 3G bands and such.
Forgive a relative noob, but are Desire GSM and Desire CDMA ROMs different? I have an Incredible but am trying to index Desire ROMs for http://www.heylisten.org/ROMs/android and don't know whether to categorize them differently. The Inc, of course, along with almost everything else, has only one version, so there's no question there, but I'm stumped on the Desire. I don't want to confuse anyone, but I don't want to force users to reflash unnecessarily. Thanks in advance for answers!
CDMA and GSM are different types of mobile networks. Because of their different way of functioning, phones need have specific hardware and drivers to be able to use the network. That said, a CDMA phone will not function using a GSM network and vice-versa. Usually, networks are GSM (all over Europe, and I don't think there is any country in the world which has only CDMA networks). The only CDMA's I know of are USA's Sprint and Verizon, though I don't know much about Asia and Canada.
The ROM's are different when it comes to the radio, and a bad radio WILL brick the device, so you should definitelly state which one are for CDMA and which for GSM (there's a chatch here: since a lot of the Disire's are GSM, you could specify all ROM's are for GSM, unless stated they're for CDMA).
21 so far... To even use this site, I would need a 2 foot lcd screen on the phone. Is this site still for phones anymore??
It is too structured. It will hinder collaboration. And it's unnecessary. For example the segregated area for tmobile, atnt, and i9505 is for the same exact gsm handset variant. Each of these has 5 forums. Sometimes roms are gsm and cdma compatible. It makes more sense to add another 5 forums for that

in fact all these variants arnt so smilar , different bootloader etc - and aalooooooooooottttt noobs that dont even try to search and post everything everywhere and blame everyone for brick or bootloop.
Soon wwe will see another variant - google gs 4
Its a shame that US carriers want and need different handsets /specs as rest of the world ....
