G-Park GPS location of my car? - Touch HD Themes and Apps

Good Morning to all.
I was browsing information on the iPhone App store, always interested to see what is developed over there and then find a similar app for my HD
Anyway, came across G-Park, a nice little app that you park your car, press the Park Me button and then when it comes time to return to your car, press where did I park and it links to GoogleMaps and directs you back.
Thought I would ask here to see if anyone has heard of a similar app available for us WinMo lovers?
Thanks
Jody

Haven't heard of a similar app, but you could just use Google maps and save your location (i.e. where you parked) and then when its time to return to car get directions from your current location to your saved car location

That kind of the application is good when you don’t have Navigation program in your mobile then you have to force yourself to use Google map,
If you have a Navigation program in your mobile you can store your coordinate and then come back anytime you want better than Google map

Obviously this would be best choice, but I was just putting forward an option for those who do not have a G-Park type application or navigational software

GPSSpot is what u looking for...
i think the answer to your needs is GPSSpot. you can save current location, (of your car but not only) and later use the saved coordinates app will get you back there. there is no map but compass style navigation, but still you will easily find the way to parked car. and u can have many different locations saved (home, tube station, etc...) and they are easily accessible from dropdown list.
regards

I think this one can be useful for you too:

Do a quick search for "dude wheres my car". The program has been in the developers section for a very long time.

Thanks for all the input, think I am off to start downloading..... best way to find out what is right of course is to install and try

GPS mapping/tracking software..

I have the tomtom working great on my 6800, but I was hoping it have a few more features. I'm looking for something to track my trip with waypoints so I can download or view them later. Something I could add POI's to while out on the bike. A friend used to have a small garmin handheld unit we would take when trail riding that would make a waypoint say every 50-100yds, then we could print out the trail later when we got home. Anything along those lines for the WM5 side?
Thanks

Will also work with my Google Maps API app GP Geoforum (Demo), which lets you host a collaborative map on your website.
One day I would like to add a mobile phone interface with GPS tracing, current position and "Add here" quick location adding, but I am too busy to develop at the moment, maybe during the winter. It's all open source tho, so if anyone wants to join the project and add it, just yell...
The GPS Tuner listed above does everything I was looking for and it doesn't use alot of memory and it runs fast. Thanks for that link.
The only think I would like to change about GPSTuner is the map pictures. It's not the end of the world, and you can add map shots from google maps.
I am wanting the same kind of program but I will be using it for fishing locations. I fish all over the west coast and I want to be able to make waypoints of good spots and be able to see them on a map that I can zoom in and out. How hard is it to make maps for GPS Tuner? I like the program but the map that is on it is horrible! Google maps or live search would be perfect if they allowed you to mark a waypoint right on the screen and save it.
Try this
free.3dtracking.net/
but it needs a data connection (gprs/edge/3g)
How about TrackMe 1.1.0.10* GPS Tracking tool with Google Earth from one of our own developers.
Hello
Can you have me that how to download Maps for GPS tunner ?

If it is MS live search then yes (I removed mine first just in case) if its some other search you may have to remove it (via settings) first
Installed this new Live Search cab,no longer can use Live Search on Today screen
Yes the program works well after installation, but now I have lost the capability of searching from my Today screen Windows Live Search. Any hints at what I should do to fix? What ever I put in to the space for search, it comes back with a window " The file http://mobilelive.com/search etc etc" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file".Never did use my Live Search on Today screen much , but now it bothers me not having it work. If I am not mistaken, it certainly didn't do the same type of searches that this new version is capable of doing. Can't remember whether it was configured to use Google search or not.. Anyways, somehow the installation buggered things up. Any ideas, I would be greatful for any recommendations. I did do SR, and even uninstalled the New cab, but ended up in a worse scenario, because I couldn't get my old version to work anymore. Looking for the string to change the Search URL to Google. I used to see it all the time, now I can't find it. Thought I would change the Search URL in Schaps Advanced config tool.
Just tried changing the Search string to use Google in regedit, and that did not help. Still can't do a Live search using Today screen search, or when I go to WLM using the search there. Anyone else experiencing this?
I have had no problems with mine. I installed the cab from the web site over the existing Live Search and it works great. I use live search , not Google so maybe that could be a problem. It almost sounds like the registry is messed up. I would reinstall the rom and then install live search again if you are going to use it.
Pre existing Live Search incorporated in WLM before this new one
I had WLM previous to overlaying this separate cab, so I didn't overlay on to a separate ,existing Live Search stand alone program.. Maybe this is why it didn't merge correctly into the WLM . I suppose that if I would have either deleted a previous separate Live Cab only and installed the new one , that might have made the difference.. Thanks

The "Search" Today plug in is from Windows Live. (Pocket MSN replacement) Which is not the same as Live Search. Live Search can be download here from your phone: http://wls.live.com/ Look in your programs folder and see if you still have "Windows Live". If so launch it and go to menu /options / Today Screen options.
Thanks Gwelker62
Thanks for straightening me out on the differences. Hopefully helpful to others.
thanks! for those that haven't installed it or clicked the link to look at new features, besides voice recognition it also added gas prices. I haven't actually driven around to verify if they are accurate or not, but at first glance they seem pretty close
thank you so much for the heads up! the voice recognition is slick, but the new gas prices option is even better!
loving the voice recognition... you can just say the name of the place you're looking for and it'll find it.
One question on the BT GPS, will it have step by step navigation if you have a BT GPS? or does it only shows your location?
Gonna have some fun with this methinks...
And by the looks of things its gonna thrape my bandwidth allowance with Orange...
Edit: switching to aerial and zooming into my house I did 2mbyte of data in like a couple of minutes.
Edit2: Does HSDPA downloads use more battery than 3G downloads? I assume they use the same aerial, but does HSDPA use more power transmitting and receiving? I know 3G uses more than GPRS.
can't get voice recognition working here?
have I read somewhere it is a u.s only feature?
anyone in the u.k got it working?the box is greyed out on my app.
live search and gps
i just downloaded and installed the new voice recognition version of live search and paired it with my bluetooth solar gps logger and it works perfectly
to sush1a, you can do both, turn by turn directions, or it can show your location and show you (if you follow the blue line) where to go.

Using satellite Maps offline

Hi,
in about two weeks i'll be travelling to London.
As i hopefully get my Desire this week, i've wondered if there was a way to get any satellite maps (or even google maps) to work offline.
Connecting to the internet would be pretty expensive (roaming), so it would be great if i could download the City Map for London on my device and then just use it offline.
Does Google Maps currently offers a possibility to save the cached data? Or are there any good Apps for that?
What's with google navigator? Possible to download maps there?
Thanks in advance
fooXeh
I've never tried (Still waiting for my desire) but i was already checking for some handy apps to do this and found MapDroyd. Just google it (i can't post urls)
Seems it's exactly what u need but maybe there are others apps out there
Thanks,
just looked at Mapdroyd, looks nice.
Not as good as a Offline Google Maps but should do the thing.
Any other suggestions?
If you download the patch to let you use google nav, (search this forum) it will save the route to your phone, so you dont require data.
This clearly only works if you dont re-route.

Look at either Sygic or Co-pilot. Also see the threads that mention them in the Themes and Apps folder. I use Sygic and like it a lot.
I don't need a full navigation software, just want to browse the Satellite map for underground stations, sightseeing stuff and so on.
I'd never dare to drive a car in England, you guys drive on the wrong side of the street
I will wait for this:
http://aura.sygic.com/
3D map ftw!
It is the next product from Sygic.
In the meantime, probably I will buy Co-Pilot, cheaper

Still, those are all full navigation softwares.
Any free, non-navigation alternatives besides MapDroyd?
I did read somewhere recently on some official Google forum a thread about offline use of Google Maps. A Google employee posted a response along the lines of Google being aware of this requirement amongst the user community and something might be in the works. But not to hold our breaths.
Edit: Found it:

Look half way down the page at the "Best Answer" from Thom dated 3rd February 2010, which says:

Hi all,
Thanks for your thoughtful comments. The reason I haven't replied directly to this thread is that I and my forum colleagues don't comment on the future availability or functionality for any Google products, including Navigation. That said, the development team and I are very, very aware of the desire to have an "offline" mode for Google Maps Navigation. We're currently exploring options about how to provide a better experience when in limited or no data coverage areas, so please look for changes to Navigation in the future. Thanks for understanding.
Best,
Tom

I did a quick google search for you and found this.

It does offline viewing of streetview maps and wont break the bank at 2 euros.
looks nice, nicer than mapdroyd, thx

ArcGIS app

I couldn't find a thread where anyone has mentioned this so I thought I'd mention this app. It's ArcGIS from ESRI and it is in the Marketplace (FREE!). It might be getting overlooked because people think they need to know GIS to use it which is not the case. Within the program there are dozens of base maps to choose from including a world road map. It doesn't have turn by turn directions but it does allow you to center your location and have the map scroll under you while driving. The world map has fairly good detail. Give it a try, I think you'll be surprised at all the information you will have access to with the various base maps.
I don't have any affiliation with the developer except I am a user of their desktop software.
Interesting, will show this to my girlfriend. She uses the desktop software for school, might have interesting integration capabilities.
Just for anyone who reads this, there is now a Turn-By-Turn navigation app which uses this API.
The thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959087
I loaded the A to B navigation yesterday and it's got to be one of the top 5 free apps out there.
One thing I like about the Arcmap app I originally posted about is the ability to have useful maps saved in the favorites folder and switch between them within the program. It can go from a road map to a weather map and back again with just a few button pushes.
that's really amazing
just curious if it would have an integration problem with a laptop?

Help with a navigation/gps app!

Hello...what I am looking for is a navigation app that will allow me to use 100% customized routes. Allow me to explain: I am a motorcycle rider & I like to take long motorcycle trips (500 miles a day sometimes) OFF the beaten path. I don't want to ride main streets & major highways. Those are boring! I want to be able to customize a route 100% with nothing but back roads & have that on my device for turn by turn navigation.
I can design such a route on my PC using Google Maps but there seems to be no way to import that route into maps or navigation on my device.
So does anyone know of an app that will import my 100% customized routes onto my device, or an app that will allow me to design 100% customized routes right on my device?
I know I used 100% a lot, but I'm really trying to stress that I don't want any route suggestions from the app itself!
Thanks in advance!
*bump*
I was under the impression if you saved your route to "my maps" in Google Maps you could access it from your phone...
Sent from my NookColor using xda app-developers app
Sounds like you could use the"Dual Sport Map App" I think a search on the play store for dual sport maps and or craftycoder will bring it up. (Sorry for no links,I'm new and not allowed yet)
While it sounds like it may be for off road use only ,it isn't.
A lot of people use it to cruise the way out of the way places and they even share their routes on the web site the developer made. You can also use that website to map out your own routes then load them to your phone. The site address is dualsportmaps DOT com
Some think the App is expensive at $20,however it was well worth it for me just for functionality, and he is giving a lot of support to the backroad bombing community.
I started using it when I wanted all the functions of the high end motorcycle GPS units but didn't want to spend the $600+ entry fee.
So I got a large screen android device, a blue tooth head set, a bar mount and that App.It has been working great.
In case you haven't come across it yet, there is a forum for riders like you(advrider DOT com) and the developer of the App maintains a thread there for extra support.
A google search for site:advrider DOT com 691537 should bring you right to it if you know what to do with the "DOT"
Hope this helps
Oruxmaps is pretty sweet and it is free. You have to create your own maps (did mine with maps from google maps) and stitch them together but for free I consider it worth the time. Here is the link: google play oruxmaps
