Newton Ring - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Well, my Touch Pro2 has apparently developed a Newton Ring over the weekend. I have never noticed it before, but it is quite obvious today under the harsh florescent lighting of my workplace. It's maybe half an inch from the edge of the screen on the sides and top, and maybe a quarter of an inch on the bottom.
Nothing undue happened to it this weekend. I've always kept it in the manufacturer's case, unless it was sitting on a table or being used.
I'm not really concerned about the ascetic problem, but I have seen in some places that the screen will eventually stop functioning? Is that correct? Should I look into getting this replaced?

Are you sure the newton rings are in your display and not in your touch panel ? This is more prone to get newton rings.

Mine developed 2 a while back. They seemed to be smaller, but started to grow a little, so I just took it back and exchanged it. It should come with a year std warranty. As far as effecting the functionality of the phone, not really sure, but I'm sure it annoys the hell out of you like it did me. The funny thing is, not sure how mine happened. I BABY the hell out of the phone, so not sure what caused it.

And ATT says this is "user abuse"
Short version, escalated 3 time to a manager who replaced it right away. I have only had the phone since Jan 3rd.
The key to getting it replaced seems to be to tell them that device gets really hot when talking on it.
That was the first thing the manager asked me when I was transfered and he immediately issued a replacement, after being denied by 1st and 2nd level support.
I have a hard time believing that there is anything that I could do to cause a perfect rectangle to show up.

Very interesting...have you actually noticed any unusual warmth from the unit when using or charging it? My suspicion has always been that the mysterious newton rings are often caused by internal thermal conditions rather than external ones.
I haven't experienced one myself (knock on wood...), but I do notice that under certain circmstances the phone is noticibly warmer (like when charging while also running wifi or BT), and I'm thinking this could be the kind of thing that will lead to a visible newton ring, over time, even just a few weeks. The temp won't be enough to cause alarm, but if/when it happens enough, repeatedly, I imagine there could very well be a connection.

My take on it.
I work for a company that makes ruggedized, WinMo handhelds, so I have access to resources like engineers with 20+ years of experience.
My theory is that it is a materials/ manufacturing defect. Something is causing delamination of the digitizer overlay from the glass LCD. Could be heat, as the phone does warm up during charging and calls.
I have heard of similar issues with displays being shipped by air carrier in cargo holds being damaged while being shipped from Asia.
What I find most odd is that it is almost a perfect rectangle, this is not an "organic" failure. I would love to see what sits right under the display that is the same size as the effected area.
The other extremely frustrating part of this is the AT&T considers "ANY" screen defect to be user neglect, sight unseen and only after several escalations did I get any results. Now I am afraid they are going to get the old phone and then try to charge me for it.

You can take a look at the disassembly guide I attached, but even after looking at every shot of the guts it still looks like the only single component that comes close to matching in position and dimensions is the battery itself.
I just noticed for the first time that the phone they used for the teardown actually has a newton ring of its own...you can see it clearly in the first pic

My TMO TP2 got this a couple of weeks ago, and on Monday my touchscreen quit responding all of a sudden. I noticed that as i pressed on the screen at certain spots they started to stick to the LCD and making my screen unresponsive.
And for 2 days i had to use my phone without the touchscreen and resorted to Rhodium Keyboard Controller to assign keys to correspond to the soft keys on the screen. Text and email are impossible without the TS on the TP2 luckily I showed this to a friend of mine and together we figured out how to make it respond by moving my fingers on the screen to release the LCD from the screen.
So for the last few days, i have been on the phone with T-Mobile and some repair centers trying to find out the best route to take and I didn't realize that others were having the same problem. I almost filed an insurance claim to replace my TP2. Thankfully i may be able to save the $130 and use the manufacture warranty to get a replacement.
Has anyone had any luck using warranty to get yours replaced outside of your initial 30 day return period? This is my 2nd TP2 as the first one went bad also.

After talking to a first level rep and a retention specialist, who both refused to do a warranty replacement, the manager I escalated to asked me right off the bat if it heated up when talking. I of course said yes it does, and he sent a replacement.

My HD BLACKSTONE developed Newton Rings several months ago, but the screen only stopped responding since 4 weeks.
I sent It to repair service in Spain, not into HTC but into Movistar, the network provider.
They changed the screen and the digitizer under warranty, and sent It back in 15 days.
The only thing they have put on the delivery note is that this device (mine) has no longuer any warranty, out the problems relating the new screen, because they have detected the original sofware was modified (I flashed my HD hundred times...)
This is my experience.

So, it's been almost 6 months since my OP. I still have the same phone. The weekend of the original post, the touchscreen did actually stop working, and I noticed what looked like a hole in the layer above the screen. I took it into T-Mobile and went through customer service, and in the middle of being on the phone, the touch screen started working again. Not coincidentally, the hole / tear was also gone.
I have had this happen once more, and was actually able to kind of massage it out and get the screen working again. So I now am certain to take the phone out of my pocket before doing any heavy lifting, since both times it has happened I was moving boxes around.
I didn't bother to have it replaced, as current suspicions point to the fact that it would simply develop on the new phone too. I have definitely used it a couple times where it got very very warm, as in, warm enough that I actually pull off the back cover to help circulation. This is mostly with playing a high-resources game and charging at the same time.

My Tilt 2 has developed the same type of distortion on the right side of the screen. The ring is oblong and moves with pressure on the screen. It is most definitely more obvious under florescent lights. ATT maintains that I have damaged the screen by "pressing or tapping too hard". Like the rest of y'all, I have taken very good care of my device. It is always in it's case and always has a screen protector. They emphatically refuse to warranty the phone. The fee for factory repair was quoted at $377.00. The business care specialist states that there are NO KNOWN ISSUES with this device. Anyone have any ideas.

Newton Ring Fixed..................
Returned my Tilt 2 to HTC (AT&T is a substandard company with substandard customer service and should be broken up like Ma Bell was; As soon as my contract is up I WILL switch to Verizon for my service.) HTC replaced the touch screen at no charge other than the triage fee. Happy Days! AT&T pointed their fingers in my eye and said "physical damage" which was ludicrous, as the ring occurred overnight while my T2 was charging. Did I say AT&T service is really, really poor? Thank you HTC America.

I have heard a few people mention that their replacement phones don't suffer from the same hinge problem - that HTC might actually be fixing this issue in production and newly produced phones won't have loose hinges...anyone have any thoughts?
On a side note... I played with my phone yesterday when i got it, and despite the hinge (mines loose too), i was able to type upside down (and any other which way) because of the way my hands grip the phone - they keep the hinge in place, i bet many other users will be the same way.

FWIW: I'm on the side of "that's the way it's supposed-to/designed-to be". So it won't be "fixed" since there's nothing broken.
BUT: It's irrelevant if it's supposed to be that way or not -- all that matters is if the user likes it that way.
So: I tried the floor/display unit in a T-Mo store, deployed the keyboard and held the phone as I might if typing while reclining/in-bed, with the plane of the phone vertical and then tilted slightly beyond vertical towards me...and the screen flopped down/closed.
I held the phone the same way I hold my current TP2 when typing on the keyboard: with my index fingers wrapped behind the keyboard, not touching the screen. So...for me it seems like it would be a bit of a problem...or at least a downside. For someone who doesn't hold the phone like I do -- someone who supports the screen with their fingers -- it probably wouldn't be an issue.
YMMV.
Issue or not -- I doubt that future batches will change...until/unless they change the design.

The problem is, there is two clear distinct hinge conditions in the market now, as evidence in Youtube vids. One condition is loose hinge, where by holding it upside down by the lower half will cause the upper half to swing down, and the other condition is that its tight and will not swing down. This leads me to believe that the problem is more in manufacturing because if its design, it should exhibit only one condition all the time.
The phone is not supposed to flop down like that. I checked one out at the store, held it horizontal and it didn't budge.
My replacement doesn't budge when held upside down with the keyboard out.. it does do it when i have my gel case on but stays in place when the case is off.

I hope you guys are right, 'cause this "issue" is actually making me drag my feet about buying it...and this is the only new phone on the horizon that meets my needs (high-end with hardware keyboard on T-Mobile USA that's not WP7).
The only reason I'm not convinced yet (even though I'd like to believe) is that several people have posted that their hinge started out "firm" and then got looser.
In any case, it will be early-November before I buy so I bet that the "truth" -- whatever it is -- will be evident by then.

I got a replacement phone (for an issue unrelated to the hinge), the replacement also has a loose hinge just like my first one. And as some people reported, even some units in T-Mobile stores have loose hinges.
I personally like G1's hinge much better. Wish G2 had the same type of hinge

I hated the G1 hinge, and personally like the design of the hinge over then more common slide, but we will have to see its longevity, right now the hinge issue isn't a major concern, the screen doesn't open crocked or have excessive play from side to side when opened, just opens to easily which I can live with
I have my second G2 and in my case both of the phones were loose to start. The one I received 2 days ago has loosened even more in spite of the fact that I hardly ever deploy the keyboard. While in a restaurant last night I had the G2 lying on the table and I reached over to pick it up and the keyboard just slid out. Which is way too loose for me. I am requesting a replacement because of this and also very poor or defective radio. This is a very good phone and I dont want to give up on it but only time will tell.
I've had my G2 since the release date and my hinge is strong. It doesn't flop down on its own. Even when I'm lying down the screen stays up on its own. Some are loose and others aren't.

why did you hate the G1 hinge? I've had G1 since it was first launched. It was (is still) sturdy.
My hinge is a little loose, if I hold it by the keyboard and give it a light shake it the screen drops about 3/16 of an inch. Now when the screen is open it will never close. I use the keyboard a lot and it doesn't seem to affect how loose it is.

I can do all the stuff you did in ur video and my hinge is loose. You were being very gentle with it. One shake and you know what would have happened lol.
That being said the hinge doesn't effect usage AT ALL. I'm also getting faster on this keyboard... at first I hated it because the G1 KB is better imo. ALso the modified HTC_IME virtual keyboard in the Nexus forum puts the iOS vk to shame.

Both open fairly easily by the way. I'm convinced this is by design.

Yep, the one on the right is the replacement and the one I am keeping. Mind you both will open if I pick them up holding the top/bottom half alone. I think we should all stop obsessing about this and enjoy the phone. That's what I am planning to do now.
Yeah, my G2 hinge is one of the loosest I've seen.. but luckily for me it doesn't hamper me at all in normal usage. If it does in the future I will get a replacement since I have the premium insurance plan.. but for now I'm loving it!

Screen cracked, questions about Sprint store replacement?

OK. My HTC was bought on launch day. Until now, no issues.
Tonight it fell and screen cracked. I went to the local Sprint store to see about getting it fixed and they informed me that since I have insurance, it's free. They changed the policy about screens cracking because SO many of them have. They refered me to the corporate store across town though as they were out of the Novatech screens at my local store. This was the store manager who helped me and I made sure to ask again, your sure it's free? He said yep, sure is. Just go to the corp store tomorrow, they have TONS of the Novatech screens in-stock ready to install.

Now my question is this...
My phone is rooted with Fresh Rom and since its cracked, I have no way to "flash" anything else. Do I need to have any concern when they start playing with my phone? After they replace the screen, the first thing they are going to see when they "boot it up" is the Fresh Rom boot screen.
You should be concerned because rooting voids your warranty. And why can't you flash a rom?
They are replacing it under TEP insurance (which rooting does not effect). I had mine done, and my phone was rooted and i have the black bootup splash screen. If you can nandroid and flash a stock rom do it...if not f-it.
I have a similar issue. My brother got a new EVO about 2 weeks ago. A week ago I rooted his EVO and installed MYNs rom. Today he got into very serious accident. Work truck rollover. He is OK but EVO did not survive. The screen is busted. He has insurance on his phone but now I have concerns since I cannot un-root without the screen.
Can you boot into hboot? If so, go over to the dev forum and look for the "how to unroot in 2 steps" thread. Then you will be unrooted and have nothing to worry about.

You can without seeing it. As long as the phone can boot up. Its just a whole lot harder.
I could care less about the actual warranty. I've never had any issues with the phone and I'm sure by the time I do, the warranty will be long over.
If the insurance covers it, f-it...
I can't see anything on the screen so I don't know where I'm at or what I'm looking at.
Once again, they will not void the warranty for being rooted unless the problem with the phone is software related. I am on my third screen due to dust under the glass and it has been rooted EVERYTIME I took it in. Never had a word mentioned about it.
I just got my cracked screen replaced. I have a rooted evo as well and I was really nervous about the same thing. I took it in and an hour later I picked it up without a mention of anything. So unless u have a real **** having a really bad day I don't think it is anything to worry about. I posted this same topic a week ago and there were a few people who said they already had their rooted evos serviced for cracked screens no problem.

Just take it to Sprint and get it fixed. Rooting only matters if its a software or radio issue. I just got my wife's screen replaced last week at a Sprint store and they didn't care at all. In fact the tech asked me where he could find the boot animation I was using.

Also, thanks for the info guys. I think it rocks that Sprints finally doing something right and replacing the screens for free. I was careful as HELL with my phone since launch but the rubber case didn't protect is from concrete and ice.
Frankly I'm surprised at how easy it broke. The outer screen is 100% fine. Not a scratch on it but the glass part under the top part is spider webbed all over the place. Funny black, white and some rainbow colors.
Do they make any cases that clip on that COVER the screen though?
Although, I guess if they are not fixing these for free because as the Sprint store manager put it, SO MANY are breaking, maybe I shouldn't even worry.
So another question..... Do they use completely new screens or referb broken ones with just the parts needed? Hoping that bright white burn spot I have from the CPU is gone.
Anyway I'm on my way back now to pick up my phone. They told me about two hours if they had the parts but they wouldn't know til they opened it.
I said well, it's a Novatech and the tech at the other store said you had plenty of them on hand, it's the Novatech screens on hand. They were like well until we open it, we won't know which one it is. I repeated, its the Novatech, I'm sure.

Isn't there more then one type of novatch though?
Its actually a factor of which ribbon cable your screen has, there are 3 different ribbon cables on the Evo screens of varying widths. They need to check to see which cable your Evo takes before they know if they have the replacement screen for it.
They're gonna replace your screen with "harvested parts". Don't leave the store if the screen isn't perfect.

that's true.i had my screen replaced(thin ribbon HW 003 epson)a while ago.they replaced it with a brand new screen and i only paid $35 because i didnt have TEP.the whole process took about 30 mins.
as for unrooting your phone,it all depends on the particualr employee/tech that handles your case...most techs are really cool and won't say a thing,but some are real a-holes.it's a risk.mine was real cool and he even told me how lucky i am 'cause some other tech might have reported my phone and have my warranty voided.I nervously chuckled and thanked him...i also gave him $20 in his hand as a tip for being cool and also for doing a good job replacing the screen.
They replaced my screen with a WHOLE new unit. The WHOLE front of the phone was replaced, not just the broken screen.
The unit still had the protective film over the screen, the buttons etc. No bright white CPU mark, whoo hoo! Well for now anyway!
I asked, the tech confirmed the parts were brand new.
They even gave me the whole front back because it had my Zagg screen protector on it. They also gave me the info to get it replaced free, which I already knew how to do but that was cool they just gave me the whole front back rather then to peel it off.
So um, the only thing that broke apparently was the inner screen. The one that displays the picture. Any of the other parts I have left worth eBaying? I have the WHOLE front of the phone and there is not a scratch on it due to the Zagg protector.

I dropped my cyanogen 7 phone over the weekend. Scratched the screen up pretty good. I told the store upfront that I had rooted. The corprate store I went to replaced my screen NQA. They told me as long as its not a software issue they would help me. Yes, it can be done O

So, a friend of mine broke their screen last night and they took it in to get it replaced, not sure if that tech was just being a **** but he said that the policy has been changed as of today. If screen crack is bigger than one inch it has to be replaced via insurance. SMH

Just thought you might want to know the amazingly **** first experience I have had with HTCs Repair Center.
Sent in my One X for repair. The two problems I stated to them very clearly, was a dead pixel, and the front speaker holes were misaligned. Wonky basically. I even sent them a picture of the speaker, just to make sure they couldn't miss it.
I had been tracking the repair online (ironic also that the tracking website doesn't even work on their own handset), and saw today that it was due to be sent back to me.
I went on the live chat to ask what specifically had been done to the phone.
At absolute worst, I was expecting the phone to be returned with a different problem, ie a different dead pixel, or scratches etc.
But no:
"Nicola: Thank you, I do not have a tracking number for the device yet, it is awaiting delivery to you however, and no hardware repair was made, the ROM was reflashed."
They are complete IDIOTS.
I said to them, to not even bother sending it back until they have fixed those issues, I was told they would escalate the ticket, and request for it to be returned to repair center. (request my arse it will happen)
So probably yet another week without the phone. Remember this was the 6th handset as well. How the hell can they do so badly at this? This was exactly the reasons why I wanted to avoid the repair route.
I'll post an update as to what happens as soon as I know.
Lol...great. mine is at the repair center right now too. I've been able to get 0 updates on its status.

When i sent mine in to have the screen creak, gap and yellowness at the to to be repaired they did a factory reset and sent it back with the original faults, along with some scratches, chips missing out of the body and a crack in the screen bezel! T-Mobile are going to replace it mind, but none are in-stock.
Make sure to check your phone over carefully when receiving, especially around the bottom corners of the screen!
Sent mine in also for screen ripple near the charging port and "play" at the bottom of the screen where the touch buttons are when squeezed. Had it returned to me a week later IN THE EXACT SAME STATE IT WAS SENT IN!!
I was furious to say the least, they basically kept my phone for a week and sent it back with a flat battery!
Its gone in for its "supposed" second repair...
Will see how this turns out!
thanks for the heads up guys..this is the whole reason i do not want to send my one in just yet..everything is still working order i just have that creaking noise on the left hand side of my phone..but to send it for repairs i am a bit hesitant as one the phone still works and two i know how long it would take..and from reading what you guys going through i think i will hold off for a little longer.
mind you though i will still keep moaning at my carrier to replace it for me..here to hoping..been at them for the last five days

I recently contacted HTC about my screen gap issue and they said I could return it to them to be fixed but reluctant to do so because I think that HTC just flash the device and twiddle their thumbs for several weeks rather than fixing an issue.
I'm not just a negative person either, this opinion comes from having to send my HTC wildfire to them 4 times and still have the same problem.
Guess I'm a sucker for punishment as I bought the One X...
They sound like PC world when you send a laptop for repair, this their "idea" of repairing a laptop
1. re install windows
2. charge to 100%
3. let it run flat
4. charge a bit and send back to user
unless its a broken screen, dead battery or totally failing of the internal hardware in which case they just cart it of to the manufacturer to sort.
if i ever need something fixed (lucky i have a flawless HOX) i'll just drop it off the viaduct by my house say i was taking a picture and my dog jumped up, seems much easier then going through HTC.
I and another portuguese One X owner left our One X's at HTC Repair Center around the end of April. I had screen gap and screen flex, he had screen flex and dead pixel.
Today we received a sms stating our One X's were fixed. He already picked his One X and they changed the screen, all if fine with his unit now.
You do know what tolerances are for dead/stuck pixels, right? :-/
If you get a device repaired/screen replacement for a single stuck/dead pixel, you're lucky HTC didn't tell you to stick it where the sun doesn't shine. Obviously there are other issues though, and it sounds like service is pretty bad.
Well HTC said if I return my phone it will only take 5 days...still longer than I would like mind you.

I bought my phone from 3 but online, I've contacted them to see if they'll let me return it to a store though as I don't want to get a replacement through the post only to find it even worse off. Doubt they'll say yes but it's better than risking it with the HTC repair centre.

whether or not they have a tolerance for it, they can sod off.
a dead pixel is a minor defect. when I'm buying goods, the sales of goods act states that the product should have 'freedom from minor defects'
seeing as a dead pixel falls under that category, they can fix it. simple. the speaker hole being wonky also falls under that category of minor defects. so they can fix both or somebody is coming to small claims with me
I got lucky with their service center...sorta. They had me send my One X in for repair because of the yellow spots, and after holding onto it for almost a month they sent me a brand new one instead. Unfortunately they kept my box and charger and whatnot, but it was nice to get a brand new phone.

Usually I sent to the repair center 4~5 times then I can get a perfect repaired phone
good thing is repair center is local so that one time only cost me a week of time

Every LCD manufacturer has tolerances for stuck pixels. Most non-OCD people won't notice one in nearly a million unless they're really looking for it. Frankly, if you'd sent it back just for that, you're an asshat. Yes, the law may make certain assertations about your rights to return a 'faulty' device, but I'm pretty sure no sane court of law would agree with you that a single stuck pixel constitutes a 'fault'. It's luck of the draw. Although I realise this point is moot because you were sending it back for another, perfectly legitimate reason anyway.

i know it's fussy - but this is my 6th one x now, and to be honest, after all this messing around (been a month and a half now, and still don't have a working one) i'm not stopping until i have one that is perfect.
I've had 2 dhds, first one was replaced on insurance as i dropped it and screen smashed, neither had any build issues, or dead pixels, my standards for this phone are formed on HTCs own previous standards.
It's more the principal of it as well. Why should HTC be allowed to fob me off with some dodgy phone? I'm paying for a high end flagship phone, and I should be provided with such, not for some piece of crap with defects on it. (gotta use it for the next 3 years as it's on contract, so I'd rather have a decent one for those 3 years )
I don't think it's fussy to expect what you buy to be in perfect condition. I bought my htc outright, that's £400, I don't think it's right to pay that much for a product that is faulty, regardless of how small or minor the fault is.
I also don't think it's right for HTC to have released a phone with so many defects.

LCD cracked during plane flight [pics]

So I just finished two 3 hour flights and used my S4 to watch movies during both. However the second flight was NOT pleasant at all. I was watching a movie while the plane was ascending and i saw something horrible happen. A crack appeared on my S4... It happened before my eyes. The phone has always lived in a case and behind a screen protector, and has never been dropped, or abused. So I am rather pissed about this, seeing as its my first samsung device. I peeled back my screen protector and found that the LCD is cracked and not the gorilla glass. So i would assume the pressure change in the aircraft combined with a unseen flaw in the LCD caused it to crack.
I am going to try and contact samsung tomorrow, and I really hope they fix it or replace it at no charge, as there is zero damage to the phone except for the crack which pretty much has to be caused by manufacture defect. Also it sucks because now my screen protector has dirt on the sticky side (from checking if the crack was on the LCD or glass) and its trash now.

I have read similiar threads and i believe after much arguing with samsung (or T-Mobile) that they finally went and fixed it for them for free. They simply replaced the LCD. Its prolly a quality assurance type of issue where the LCD isnt the same for all devices where one may lack in a bit of strength over the next. Same with our CPU's how some can OC to high values while others cannot even OC one mhz higher.
I have an issue going on with my s4 charger with Samsung, the issue was opened back on 7/14/2013.
I still have not received my charger back yet. spoke with them couple of times.
This is the worst customer service I have seen so far.

I know youre joking, but that only applies during takeoff and landing, after you reach 10,000ft they will tell you can use it.
I read in the first post saying you were ascending, so in my mind I guess u were taking off. I know u can use electronics after take offs. But on a serious note, I think since u were watching the movies, your device was getting pretty warm/hot, and there was an issue where the screen cracked under high temps and Samsung was replacing them when it happened
Also I have learned that samsung support is horrible and so is their website. I go to make the repair ticket, It wont work in firefox. it then says Im missing part of my address, and it wont let me enter into the text field. So i find out I have to edit my account information, which requires a password change.. okay. Done. They make you do a troubleshooting guide to determine the issue, it says its not covered, whatever, i'll need to talk to a rep anyways. Get to the last page it asks for $200, and I recall it saying it wouldnt charge me until I approved it at the depot. But I want to go back and the only option is 'continue' so i click the samsung logo to go back to the homepage. Start all over. Denied, it says call support. I check my emails and I see the ticket went through, but is missing the charges and shipping label. Contact online support, they dont know what their doing. So basically I've wasted 30 minutes and need to call them to cancel the ticket, so i can remake the ticket. I hate apple, but I can see the appeal of having a store and a system that works. Sigh.

Isnt it 30,000? When I went from Fla to AK a few months ago I think it was 30
But anyways, flying from Fla to NYC on Thursday and I'll be pissed even tho I have insurance if my shiz cracks some **** like that.That sucks man. Sure its the LCD and not just the glass? Just the glass would be a lot cheaper to fix it your self. I think someone was telling me the s4 glass is easier then the s3 but I might be wrong. S3 was a complete PITA. I shattered mine and took it to get fixed and no one would replace just the glass (The glass is not only glued to the casing but allso completely glued down to the lcd) but like I said if its just the glass from what Ive heard its easier. And definitely cheaper

Its 10,000 to use electronics, and cruising altitude can vary depending on distance, weather and flight plan.
Im pretty sure its the LCD, I removed the screen protector and could not feel the crack. I believe its glued together, and either way I'm not about to pay out $100+ to fix the phone myself or elsewhere. Its very annoying and may spread, but it doesnt effect the use much right now, so if they refuse ill just use it as is and then buy a phone thats neither samsung or HTC =.=

>30k ft is cruising altitude for longer flights.
However, they alert you that you can use electronics after 10k ft. But even after that announcement, they're still climbing a lot more, altitude wise, unless you have a short flight.

I've seen more than a few OMG MY SCREEN BROKE FOR NO REASON! threads and none have looked like this that I've seen. They always are spider webbed with an obvious impact point. But this one to me is different. There isnt an impact point, with no spider webbing. I think OP is legit and Samsung should be held responsible.
I once had a problem with samsung and I was on the phone with them for easily 8 hours and the only way that I got my problem solved was to email the ceo, I think his is email. [email protected] hopefully this will help you.
I worked for Apple tech support. I was one of the guys who answered when u dialed the 1-800 number on the back of every apple device. I think they've got the best tech n hardware support. The iPhone gets tricky cuz of having to deal with the cell provider... But it's pretty much standard to try to help people out as much as possible for this sorta thing. Hard to determine if the damage actually happened like the buyer said though... Could just be some hockamaymie story

I'll disagree with the support comment. Wife spent almost 8 hours on the phone and got thrown around to 4-5 people for an apple id issue.... None of them knew what the hell to do and just kept transferring her to someone else....
But I don't think the dude has any reason to make it up. That's just stupid. Not like he can tell Samsung hey see I even posted about it on XDA, which contains every possible way to piss you off and void my warranty....
Well that's Def. Not how it was where I was. Apple is super involved with their tech support and is almost obsessive about making the customer happy. I mean, people lose whole libraries of punches stuff, and ur only supposed to get one or two complete redownloads of all ur stuff... But they rarely don't, give bottom level employees the ability to override warranty issues and replace uncovered damaged products.
Based on my experience with other tech or help lines, Apple has the best. They only outsource to India for one call center location. The other 9 are in America, so it's not impossible to hear them 90 percent of the time cuz you got someone here. Customers used to tell me when they called apple, if they ever did get an Indian, they'd just hang up and call right back cuz chances are the next one will be from Minnesota or whatever. And they got so many centers, there's barely a wait queue ever, the most I ever seen was 50 something minutes, on Christmas day. Otherwise barely at all. And they're good at hiding people that like electronics and actually know what they're talking about. Not to mention every tech employee goes through a paid 6 week long training course on every item you'll be troubleshooting, so every employee knows what they're talking about when you call. I worked there, and it's the one job that I don't really have anything bad to say about it at all...

Not a crack its the glue separating from glass and digitizer that's fused ... If you press is a little hard it will go away and come back happens when glass is not 100% flat..

Question No sound when Z fold3 is opened

So here's a deal - I have my z fold3 for almost a year now and I've started to have some weird problems with internal screen. First I couldn't switch from external to internal instantly - I needed to turn off screen when folded, open it and turn on screen. It fixed itself after couple of days. No there's a new problem - when phone is opened there's no sound. When I close it - it starts to play... Any ideas how to fixed it without doing hard reset? I tried safe mode.
I have the exact same issues and also in the same order as yours!
In addition I also have the S Pen dead zone issue.
All these came very recently after a software update.
It's so frustrating.

S PEN dead zones
S PEN dead zones in screen specially in the Crease area and around the inside magnets..!! This was found after 4.1.1 update.. Even the HOVERING and calibration is affected.. Service centre people have no idea why is it so, as the finger touch is...

Exact same problem here. Can't switch to internal, resolved by itself. (or by hard reset) Now no sound when full open. When half open under 90 degree it plays sound, more than 90 sound dissappear.

Happened after the recent update...???
SAMSUNG should do something about it..
At first I though my screen had some problem, and being a premium device we don't expect these products to malfunction like this..
I just tried it on my unlocked and updated UK model.
No issues with sound or s pen input here.
So, wonder if it's a geographical update issue?

Wow, I just had this issue. How can it be a hardware issue when i did not damage it physically? the store quoted 600 bucks for repair if i have no warranty. what are they gonna repair that cost 600 bucks?

Resolved the switching screen to tablet mode by "resetting all settings" option
Regarding sound, I couldn’t find a solution
I think only fix to this just send it to samsung for repair. Probably the switch for fold detector causes all of this.
Hi guys sorry I'm replying to this thread so late on but I had the exact same issue, audio not working when opened and I took it to samsung experience store, and they replaced the inside screen, but apparently the inside screen is attached to the whole frame of the phone so the only parts of the phone that are originals are the back and camera, they told me the front screen would be my old one aswell however once I got it back that was new aswell! Also both screens came with screen protectors on, so basically all in all I have gotten a new fold 3 out of this, ALL FREE UNDER WARRANTY!!!, so not sure what you did with yours but I highly recommend you take it to samsung to fix it for free if you haven't already, my question to you though is did you replace the inside screen protector at all before hand? And did it possibly start to lift as I'm wondering if that's what happened to mine as the replacement screen Protector I put on once the original cracked started to lift up.

I experienced the same a few weeks ago and although my warranty expired last december, they still repaired my phone for free. They replaced the inner screen and all that's attached to it (frames and both batteries), didn't get the front screen replaced tho but it's fine.
Samsung (their repair center) refused to repair my phone under warranty due to some scratches, and they are now asking for over 600€ for the repair. It's unfortunate

That's INSANE my phone was in far worse condition than yours and they repaired it free of charge, try taking it to a different samsung store and don't mention you took it somewhere else first, if not complain to a manager about it, scratches like that should never void your warranty as there just scratches on the hinge and the device is clearly defective, you need to stand your ground on this stuff not sure if it's the same warranty where you are as it is in the UK but the item is defective, the reason there trying to quote 600 is because the screen and body are all one unit and don't separate, but again take it to another store or send it in and TELL THEM it's a defective product and it is STILL under warranty.

Yeah I would have been happy enough with my old screen but really happy it's a new one, maybe the guy broke it removing it , but looking at the marks on the other guys phone I can't believe they refused to fix it for him when it's clearly a defective unit.
