>> PETITION << Windows Phone 6.5 for HTC Touch Diamond/Pro/HD - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

This petition i directed to HTC, Microsoft and all wireless carriers who sell these devices:
We want Windows Phone 6.5 for our HTC Touch Diamond/Pro/HD!
Sign Petition here
Help me so I can help you.

Don't mean to discourage you, but i find kinda funny you posting this on a forum where there's atleast 100 diferent Windows Mobile 6.5 roms for those devices...
Even better, Windows 6.5.1 in all of them...
I'll sign the petition for the kicks, but there's no way i would use the upgrade even if they released it...

Contrary to you I like official roms instead of all the crap software that the coocked roms have. I like to have the base and choose myself the software I want to put in ...
Good initiative ...

Shure, like they care!
I have sign that anyway.
Good luck!

Just do it!
Come on people, it may well turn out to be a waste of time but hey, it only takes a minute or two - you'd be crazy not to!
Spread the word!
Steve.
PS
I looked at the petition again (17 mins after signing) and another 14 had signed.
By my reckoning - at that rate - we should hit 10000 in just under 8.5 days.
Worth a shot eh?

For HTC, there is simply no business case for doing this.

signed!

signed thank you

Hmmm really strange considering a stock ROM would have more in it than a LIGHT/LITE ROM. You'd get more storage and less apps to start with. Not to mention a faster ROM.
Sorry to be the bad guy but unfortunately I doubt your petition will get you anywhere. AFAIK it's all up to the carriers, not Microsoft or HTC.

signed.. keep the spirit mate!!

Signing
Signed, with hopes....

signed.
hoping...

sure ill signed, i wish they'd give us a fully working 6.5 canvas, volume controller, menu enhancement and htc sense /nod

No need to create multiple threads for each device.
Seriously, all 11 of your posts were the exact same thing.

WM5... Official? or adapted?

Let me understad one thing....
Is The WM5 upgrade for BA an official work from HTC?
Or is an experiment by a very smart hacker?
Anybody knows if will be avalaible an official upgrade by O2 t-mobile or others? :?
Thanx, M
Neither. From what I've heard it's a test version from Microsoft. And it will probably never surface as a regular upgrade because it's even more buggy and need more clever fixes and workarounds then even their usual official releases...

Yes, right! But the thing is that those guys, and we, are enthusiasts. And this is a build that probably wouldn't cut it commercially, since it's not stable enough or easy enough to get stable for Joe Sixpack and his moron friends.

Anyway... anybody knows why i should upgrade?
I use the BA for my job... I'd like to have the new WM5 but I don't know if is a good thing to upgrade....
Thanx, M.
If you're dependent on it for your job, and you're not experienced with computers and PPCs, and especially if you can't live with a few annoyances for a while, you should not do it.
I didn't hesitate to install it.
I was a tiny bit worried about turning my phone into an expensive brick, but it was remarkably easy to install WM5 on my BA. Took me about half an hour (most of that being flashing time).
Works fine, all the patches installed so I've got my camera back up and backlight.
Really, sterling work!
buggy???no doubt but all the roms are not perpect...even the PC windows...nevertheless...i love it...
hello guys.
i'm pretty sure it will come out comercial.
sure it's buggy has hell right now, that's why it's a early beta version.
but has you all know, there's microsoft people watching everything, so all the fixes and patches made by our members here at xda-developers are surelly being implemented into the next beta version.
don't think that beta versions are leaked for no reason

To All here discussing this:
I am a big fan of windows based phones/PDAs.In my 10 yrs of cell phone usage time, I have used Nokia(Symbian 60/80/90) SE(UIQ), Mototrola(UIQ) Ipaq 6365 etc etc....But I am noe wandering around HTC Devices, 2/2i/2s/Magician....I hv kept all the three devices and XDA2/BA are with WM 5.AND I AM PROUD TO SAY THAT WM 5 Rocks....With WM 5, battry life has increased, clarity is increased...device has become more stable....All of you might hv come across so many threads of soft resetting the devices...but with WM5 no such problems...no one way sound problems...BT Head sets work flawlessly..and more...data is not lost...
I think there too much problems yet to upgrade... on WM5...
Ciao, M.
Really? I have found it much LESS buggey than any of the WM2003 roms around!
Yes its dose have some issues but it is a Microsoft product after all! If it didnt have any issues I think I would drop dead in shock!
As its for OEMs and mobile networks and going by how well it works (with the legendary Mamaich's patches its very nearly perfect) I'd say that would be very close to how would be if it was officially released...
The bugs have nothing to do with the fact that it is a Micro$oft's product. That's a misconception that's been generated through the rise of Linux and stuff. I use all different types of Software and OSs and not a single one is bugs free. Even Switches and Routers are full of bugs and they're not made my MS.
The fact of the matter is, programmers are only humans and will always make mistakes and learn from it. Thats all programming is about. Making crazy mistakes to mess with the world and then get it fixed later disaster has struck.

here's some food for toughts...
The First Windows Mobile 5.0 Device
and this one for the interested
Windows Mobile 5.0 Developer Evaluation Kit
seems pretty oficial to me
what they meant to say was that there is no official rom for WM5.0 for the BA. yes, WM5.0 has been officially released but mobile OSs are not like PC OSs that you can just grab an installer and plunk it in. due to the tight nature of its integration with the hardware, it is up to your hardware manufacturer to build you a rom that can work with your device.
the unofficial WM5.0 rom means that at least HTC is monkeying with the idea of putting it out there, but it will ultimately be up to the resellers (ie O2 and whatnot) to provide you with an official rom. personally, i hope HTC releases an official rom independent of the resellers.
i am no expert
But I would indeed say that thanks to all on here we will end up with a more stable version of wm5 than will end up being released by the powers that be.
The reason,
Mamaich, buzzlightyear, xdamojo, the lastone and all the others (and yes there are to many to mention, some in just smaller ways but i bet they are a great help to those who do the bulk of the work)
These guys use the devices all day everyday and know the blueangel inside and out (literaly).
Lets be honest, have any previous versions been bug free or anywhere near. Give these guys the stuff to work with and they will get there, but I am sure this is not an overnight process.
We should all take our hats off to them and for those who moan, dont bother upgrading and wait as buzz would say "too infinity and beyond"
For official releases
from all of us who have benefited
CHEERS GUYS
stay happy

We want Windows Phone 6.5 for our HTC Touch Diamond/Pro/HD!

Help me so I can help you.
We've done the same thing few years ago for Trinity and nothing happened ... When HTC say NO it's really NO ....
we've got briliant chefs , so no need for it
A cosa serve questa petizione?
Abbiamo già wm 6.5 con manila 2.5 sull'HD. Addirittura abbiamo wm 6.5.1 !!!!
The problem is not only with the ROM`s for example i use Blackstone and i buy it when was out on the market for alot money.. The problem is that you have a super phone.. without a support for example iPhone have alot FUN apps thousend and thousend over the net and the peoples can have fun at all.. for example iWash and etc.
The HTC have alot more potential and all resource but nothing heppand.
Imagine if the HTC have Support and they release NEW ROM`s and NEW APPS make by themself what then will be here?
Nobody will buy Any other kind of Device i love my Blackstone but i miss FUN and Enterteinment Apps

I believe this is unnecessary when we have brilliant chefs who make ROMs that run smoother and more stable than Stock ROMs. If you want to think about it a different way - we got WM6.5 before it was officially released! Can't be more happy than that!
If you want to keep your warranty without too much hassle use USPL.
Why the double thread?
A certain MOD will not be amused!!
probably a waste of time man. htc is already a few generations ahead in their phone lineup. to them these phones might as well not even exist anymore.
hasn't your thread elsewhere been closed? lol
I've made this point before and I'll make it again.
If you go out and buy and computer from say HP with Vista on it and a year down the road MS release Windows 7 would you really expect HP to provide you with a free upgrade?

The old story of the removal of ROMs

Hello. I have just found this thread, which is quite old: http://www.xda-developers.com/modules.php?name=News&file=showarticle&threadid=294142
A simple question: I still see the ROM hosted here. How did the story end?
If I recall correctly, the story ended just how it sounded; the ROM images were taken off XDA-Developers.com and they have never returned. I have only been here a year, and that was before my time, so you need to ask someone who's been around since '05 or '06 to confirm, but I believe that the ROMs were actually available to download from XDA-Developers.com (actually hosted on the FTP I believe). Nowadays, rather than actually being hosted on XDA-Developers.com, other sites like Mediafire and RapidShare host the ROMs and are linked to from the ROM posts. Again, you'd need to ask someone else in order to confirm, but that's what I pieced together.
Hmm... if you are right then it's not that bad, but I had always thought that ROMs weren't hosted here because the storage space was expensive... This is strange, I had also always thought that both HTC and Microsoft are actually happy of letting xda-developers live, since it provides an additional values for HTC Windows Mobile device. Who ever will buy the Topaz just because it has a somewhat-revisited version of Manila? Almost no one. Who will buy a Blackstone instead of the Sony XPeria because he knows that he will be able to reflash it and keep up to date with the Topaz, stuff, Leo and so on? Many people, including me. So this is no damage to HTC and Microsoft.

Yeah, M$ and HTC mostly turn a blind eye to XDA-Developers since we're a huge market for them, and we're their best customers. HTC themselves said that they can't live with XDA, but can't live without it.
But AFAIK the reason those were taken down was because they were Windows Mobile 5 beta ROMs, and at the time, M$ didn't want those internal builds leaked for whatever reason. XDA's recently (within a few months ago) had additional takedown notices (actually legitimate, not hoaxes like before) for some of the 6.5.x ROMs that had leaked onto this board. Though, it doesn't make much sense considering a new build comes out a week later and they don't seem to care about that one. I think its to supposed keep the competition from knowing what's going on at M$, but they haven't done a very good job so far.

Im so done with wm and my hd2...

Im done guys with Wm my Hd2 is up for sale no update for hardware that can run Wp7 they can have wp7 my hd2 is up for sale and i just picked up my new Nexus one just flashed the new HTC Desire Rom running at 1.3GHZ Im happy Hello Android mabey next time WM mabey next time
Maybe next time, punctuation. Maybe next time...
Personally, I'm in the 'Buy a phone for what it can do now, not what I hope it might be able to do in the future' school of thought.
Sure, no WP7 is a disappointment, but if you own an HD2 (as I did for a while), you got what was being promised. For me, it was the lack of a keyboard that made me get a TP2, but the HD2 is still one helluva phone.
No announcement has been made. I'm gonna laugh if the HD2 ends up getting an update.
bye bye cry baby, i swear you guys crack me up. how can you be upset when you bought the phone without anything being announced if you bought it because YOU THOUGHT it was getting an update thats your own fault, ms didnt tell you ANYTHING. and the hd2 is gonna have wp7s soon enough, maybe not officially but who cares, custom roms>>>>>>official roms
I would be glad to take your HTC HD2 off your hands
The forum would be way better without such threads. But on the flip side it's funny to see how stupid some people are (sorry but it's the truth)

It's not so much the lack of an upgrade that's the problem, it's the combination of that plus WP7 being incompatible with Windows Mobile software. That's one thing nobody was predicting a few months ago, and it means that there is no longer any reason for a commercial software company to continue working on any Windows Mobile project - see, for example, Adobe's decision to scrap FlashPlayer on WinMo.
To say "your phone won't get an OS upgrade" is one thing, but to say "your phone won't get an upgrade, and incidentally we also neglected to mention that your phone's current OS would cease to be a viable platform for commercial software about three months after you buy it" is something else.
And it is not by any means certain that there will be custom ROMs based on WP7.

I doubt it. The reason chefs have been able to make WM6.5 for older devices is because it is still based off of the same kernel as 5.0-6.1. If you are familiar with cooking ROMs for older devices, you would realize that we are still using 6.0 drivers on all of these 6.5 ROMs. Once the kernel changes, however, those drivers will most-likely be useless.
And yeah, buying the HD2 probably wasn't the best idea.

It's also possible to run 6.5 on the Himalaya, which is originally based on PPC 2003 = different wince kernel.

But the Himalaya still got WM5, so that still means it got WinCE 5.2 kernel one way or another. Once it got a 5.2 kernel, it can run anything from WM5 all the way up to WM6.5.x

alright that finally explains it. Didn't know they got an official WM5 release.
The HTC HD2 is an impressive device even without WP7 As for upgrading it, there will be a debate but, they will chose to release a HD3 instead. Feel free to sign the petition though, lol http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/hd2windowsphone7/

I'm quite on the contrary
Ironically a handful of days ago I made similar decision. Except for that I was really, really pissed off by Android and decided to switch back to WinMo. So I got a HD2.
Now I'm (again) having:
- The capability to play almost every media format on my phone
- *REAL* GPS navigation suites
- Serious, polished, and visually attractive games, by lots
- Proper tool to manage my personal (2 of them) and business mail accounts, with attachment, reply record and everything
- Excellent applications to read *AND EDIT* Word and Excel files. It's vital to have this as a translator who frequently has to work on-the-go.
- PDB, PRC, CHM, LIT, TXT, RTF, DOC, DOCX, HTML, PDF in short, whatever document format I may need to read. And the tools to do this are generally extremely polished
- The freedom of setting the phone on true mute mode once and for all, unlike on certain idiot OS where you set the thing on mute, all system notifications get silenced, while everything else from media player to games continue to sing how ever loud it likes
And what I no long have:
- Don't have to pick from a thousand not so different but frequently buggy cooked ROMs
- Don't have to flash my phone like once per week to keep up with new version of cooked ROM franchise
- Don't have to comb through 10K apps, filter 90% of them (crapware swarm), and pray "God give me some actually useful app please, amen"
Anyway, I'm not sure why so many people chanting around "Android is much, much by the outdated WinMo". I believe that the value of a smartphone is reflected by what it can achieve. WinMo so far is still much better than Android on satisfying my professional and entertainment needs. Yep its UI is no match for Android's (at least less colorful). But I can't care less about that. Beautiful or not, get the job done first.
As to WP7 update. Well, I'm having great faith on XDA. Even if Microsoft and HTC decide to screw HD2 owners big time, chances are pretty good the magnificent young men (and women) here can make an unofficial update happen. It doesn't really matter for me if this is not happening. Right now I'm having everything I need already, and I'm happy. WP7 is only a plus.
it's so true ....

That’s what comes to my mind when I think Windows Mobile vs. Android
Actually I really don't care if Windows Phone 7 doesn’t get an "official" release for HD2.... Its current state is a "Solid Windows Mobile 6.5 PocketPC" which is exactly what was intended for it to be.
enjoy your little crappy java machine LOL that'll show em.

I PM'd you with my offer

Wp7 update

There may already be several threads in other sections discussing this anticipated update, but I thought why not. Happy New Years Ladies and Gentlemen.
Microsoft has stuck to their slogan "Early 2011".
The little blue birdy however flew a little closer to sources and overheard "January".
As of now, the update has not yet been released obviously so this gives us all the opportunity to discuss some of our individual expectations from this upcoming update. You may have heard, there may be several updates, not only one.
Let's try not to get too loony but in all seriousness, when I first purchased my HTC MOZART with WP7 I did so without much research and maybe too much faith in Microsoft.
I thought MAC - PC, IPhone - WP7
I can tell you all now, I was severely traumatized by my experience when I first discovered I couldn't customise my ring-tone. With tears still pouring down my face, and Chevron still non existent, I went to Copy and Paste something. It was then that I learnt that the World had already ended.
Now like I said, we can't expect too much but I just want to state what I personally believe and after some scrutiny of my opinion wisely believe I'm in the position to state several of the most 'CRUCIAL' changes that need to take place ASAP on WP7. The severity of leaving these features out has already taken on another dimension. Some features were intentionally left out for future profiteering and others simply because the potential of such features could be exploited in unexpected ways.
Taking this path however has led some of Microsoft's most loyal customers questioning the developmental plans and reasoning's behind a number of decisions.
You have to think, these phones aren't toys. These phones (due to the mandatory specifications Microsoft has set) pack quite a powerful punch in terms of processing capabilities. The true capabilities of these technologies seriously can be quite dazzling. For one reason or another, unfortunately such open technology will probably never fall into the hands of the masses.
However, they seem to have gone a bit too far with the intentional tampering of functionality and the unprecedented level of scrutiny has left Microsoft scrambling to find the excuses, and forced them to re-think their relationship with their customers.
Julian Assange is here questioning which governments are responsible for all these dead civilians and we need to seriously point exactly at the people in charge (Governments - Developers all the same) and demand why, with the level of power they hold, the technology, funds and potential they have access too, are there basic features missing on these GOD DAM PHONES!?
One might state, "If you don't like it, then go somewhere else!"
Well "NO!" is what I would say. Why am I being forced to use outdated technology just to enable me to change my ring-tone! It seems the more we human beings accomplish technologically, the less we are able to utilize it with some common sense. One step forward, two steps back!
It is these corporations that hold the responsibility and have the obligation to set a standard with technological advancements. They are the leading manufacturers, researchers and developers enabling the wonderful standard of life we all possess today. BUT, you have to remember, the people at the front end of these achievements need to be held accountable when a phone shows up on the market that doesn't allow one to change their ring-tone! We as a group of human beings are able to discuss and elaborate. If we are standing here in 2011 with a phone that doesn't allow one to change their ring-tone, we need to stop and start wondering what the hell is going on.
"Yes, I just payed top dollar for one of the most advanced phones out there! So advanced you don't need to change your ring-tone, you just select one out of a list! HOW INGENIUS! "
"Yes, I just payed two million pounds for a luxurious house! It's so freakin high class and luxurious it doesn't even have any DOORS OR WINDOWS!"
See the similarity?
Please Microsoft, give me my Ring-tone back. Give me the Flash Player I deserve. Give me my Landscape Address Bar in MIE. Give me my Multitasking. Give me my Copy/Cut & Paste. Give me my Media player that allows me to Fast Forward/Rewind with my own fingers. YOUTUBE BY HTC DID! Give my USB storage functionality! After all, there is a memory card in there! Give me a voice on my Maps to let me know when I have to turn. Do something about this 'SEARCH' button please. It keeps interrupting me on practically everything I try to do on the phone. At least create a locking mechanism or even give me the option to use it for something more USEFUL! BING IT OFF. Get it?
Anybody else with any realistic functions they believe is a basic requirement? If so please name them.
When the Update is finally released, we can further elaborate on the improvements. I'm sure there will be improvements. WP7 can do better!
Best Regards, Dontworry
Man if only Bluetooth file transfers could be added in the update..
I have a samsung i780 for 2 years already
I lost my mind and bought one HTC HD7 without researching
Please microsoft, do not make me regret more than I already am
it's sad that I feel better with my old i780 with a fake copy of WM6.5
listen to this man, makes us happy.
Guys you must not compare it with the win 6.x phones. Please jsut think about the potential and look at what you do with this phone instead of what it can't.
I jumped from my beloved pimped qtek 9000 to HD7 and i must say.....even if the qtek is so yesterday .... but the WM 6,5 with working bluetooth-Garmin XT and other cool features was untill today way better than WM7.
I Understand that the 7 software is still in developement, but it is not yet worth the money, the time that i invested just to find out why the bluetooth wouldnt work and so on and so on.
I honestly believed that it would be a realy woooooow phone but it is not. So far it is an overpriced not so usefull dissapoitement.

Well 4 starters........it would be very usefull if it "could" establish a bluetooth connection with my qtek or for that mater with my hp laptop. That would be wooooooow. On the other hand it cant do much more than a HD2 with a pimped WM 6,5.
Search key really annoy my Mozart
Double click or confirm or somethings for HOME (Start) key in running applications
I want Proximity sensor to disable all key when cover with somethings else
(in running applications)
sorry for my poor ENGLISH
guys u are wasting time and space on XDA by creating those use less threads.... there are so many out there...
i feel so sorry for those ppl who buy things with out knowing what they are getting and then B#%@& about it like a girl... no one put a gun to your head to buy a WP7, u did it with the free will...
and come on i gave up on the Samsung i780 in 6 months as it was a mistake i made buying, which i corrected by getting a HTC Touch Pro. the screen was crap as the touch penal never work... the screen size did not allow me to run so many apps, it was so slow... so if u have used i780 for 2 years u should be glad that u bought a WP7 device as its smooth and fast..
CES is around the corner and i think the update will be launched there....

come on u want to compare WP7 devices with your qtek..... u must be kidding me... is that company still making PDA???
i am using HD7 since the frist week of its launch... and as i have unlimited data plan i can send all the files by email, so no need to file transfer, my photos are sent to my sky drive so any one with access can view or download it.
a house so luxurious it has no windows..... wow great place to throw stones huh... just sayin... plus i agree nobody twisted anyones arm to buy one.... the fanboys need to stop cryin like girls... and i can say that... im a girl...

I dont want to compare anything and it wouldnt be fair, but on the qtek the bluetooth worked and with WIMO 6,5 by Tomal it was fast.
Oh and i dont need a phone for sending some pics to a sky drive to show them to other people. A working bluetooth would be fine.
Oh and changing ringtones too.
Get the point?
Adobe reader also.....more for a job thing than sending photos. The qtek made a hell of a job there regarding my buisiness.
So the post with the lux house....is not so far fetched after all :-D:-D:-D
cut it off guys
if you dont like it, you can just find more suitable phone for you
but be sure that you do some research on that phone before you buy
and stop whinning about this is not good compare to that...blah blah

Yeah, you are right. And it seems that soon many people will do so as downgrading mobile computer (which was any WM6.x device) to just fancy phone is not what the people doing real job with the phone are expecting. I'm just waiting for the WP7 update and if it does not contain the mandatory tethering ... bye-bye WP7. Too expensive toy ... that does nothing

Well it does everything a Phone should.... your expectations are obviously higher then this.
Mine does everything I need, after coming from iPhone 4 and Desire HD there isn't anything in particular that I miss. Yes, it doesn't have all the same features but that's the same with any platform you choose.
