IMAP email inconsistencies - HTC Excalibur

My ISP's mail server is an IMAP server. I have entered all of the info correctly and I am usually able to connect and receive and send email without issue. However I am seeing a few consistencies:
1) Occasionally it won't be able to send and/ or receive email. I do get an error about network coverage, settings, etc. but I have changed nothing from the last time I used it. Often, shutting down the phone and removing the battery for ten minutes will resolve the issue. Sometimes, it seems that it works thru WiFi but not through T-MO phone service, other times it's exactly reversed (maybe switching between the two is the problem?). It seems that I D/L'd a patch or found some system setting change for this problem on XDA-dev for my old silverface Dash (I now have a Dash 3G), but I can't find it anymore despite two hours spent searching the forums.
2) None of my self-created subfolders on the IMAP server are D/L'd to my Dash. Additionally, email deletes are not transferred either direction. Email deleted on the phone stays on the server and vice-versa. (Yes, of course I checked the "Remove from server " check-box)
Any help is appreciated!

Timeout-Messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device

I have a couple of POP3 accounts on my O2 XDAIIs. I used to be able to download my email from ISP without problems.
Lately, when there is any email waiting, it will connect and try to download and pop up the following message "Messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device. Make sure you are connected and that your e-mail account settings are correct. Then, try to download messages again."
The other POP3 accounts work fine, even with the same ISP, and this POP3 account used to work when I first got the unit. The POP3 account in question works fine from my Treo using the same SIM card (I have Cingular).
I searched all over the web and forums, I see many have the problem and some have not been able to resolve it. I tried:
1) Soft and Hard Reset
2) Deleting and reentering the account
3) Used the Sprite Mail cleanup utility (which basically cleans all emails and attachments)
4) Tried a registry key that had worked for some: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Inbox, create new DWORD ForceOffSSL and give it a value of 1.
5) Checked with my ISP – they could not see any problem with the account and works with anything else but my O2 XDA IIs.
6) I tried the Flemail 2006 program (formerly WebIS) and it worled for email. But the program is so buggy and slow that I had to delete it. This tells me the problem is with the native pocket outlook.
If there is NO email, it will connect, check and disconnect with no error.
There is a timeout somewhere. The other accounts can connect and download without problems.
Has anybody else had this problem and does anybody have any suggestions?
No one else has had this problem? Any suggestions?
I know it is device specific as it works on the same GSM account on a Treo.
PPC6700 with same problem
I just purchased the PPC 6700 and I love the device itself, but I have had many problems with it after owning it for only 4 days.
1. Sprint failed to let me know that my phone had to be updated. Thanks! I only found out about this update after 1 hour of phone tech support trying to find out why my phone randomly went into flight mode. What a pain in the ***.
2. I have my own servers and cannot download my mail from them or my home isp. Sprint by the way repeatedly told me this must be an issue with you server. I told him after being on the phone for 3 hours (I could tell he wasn't happy) "You must be right! Microsoft has always developed software much more then anything ever put out in the Unix world".
So the only help I guess I can offer to you is "Yes, I have the same problem with the native outlook that comes with WM5.0

Whenever I see this (and I see it a alot) on mt XDA IIs, I just select Accounts|Clear <account>
If it doesnt work immediately then I restart the Outlook Inbox app and/or disconnect/reconnect.
Been through searching registry/deleting this & that database file / re/installing accounts. Havent had to do that for ages.
I access 5-6 pop accounts from various servers, several are my wife's. My bet is that it has something to do with whether the current status of the emails downloaded in your device matches the server etc - due to the function that you can delete the emails from the server by downloading, deleting and then deleting from the 'deleted items' folder and re-sycning

ME TOO! Any resolution??
I am having the SAME EXACT PROBLEM with my new 6700...did you ever find a resolution?
THanks,
I am having the same problem on a Hermes / TyTN.
My first TyTN was fine. I have 3 email accounts. 1 uses SSL and the other 2 don't. There were no problems using either account.
Having replaced my 1st TyTN with a new one (due to poor wifi on first device) I now get the message 'Messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device. Make sure you are connected and that your e-mail account settings are correct. Then, try to download messages again'.
The only solution is to use the ForceOffSSL setting for my 2 none-SSL POP3 accounts. Then I have to reboot the TyTN without the ForceOffSSL settings to use my SSL POP3 account.
Continually changing the ForceOffSSL setting and rebooting is annoying, so for the time being I'm using nPOP email client for my non-SSL accounts.
getting an email timed out on cingular 8525
I am getting the same message 'Messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device. Make sure you are connected and that your e-mail account settings are correct. Then, try to download messages again'. I am having the same problem intermittently with Htc Tytn with a pop account yahoo. I seem to connect without a problem on the internet but i do get this error intermittently. any solution?
Same here ... cannot send mail via OptOnline Account
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK...I got a resolution to this last night on the Cingular forum.
Quick answer is that OOL's SMTP Server is locked down. I needed to change the outgoing server to Cingular's (CWMX.com).
Thanks to anyone who took the time to click-in on this thread.
Happy New Year, all!

===================
Hi all, OK, this marks my first post on this board. I've been a lurker for a few months, and have settled into a Cingular 8525 as my first Pocket PC Phone.
I noticed a few days ago that I could not send mail via my OptOnline Account, unless I was using WiFi or the 8525 was tethered to my home PC via ActiveSync. I was thnking all along that it was probably due to some piece of third party software that I installed over the past few weeks (a hearty thanks to all on these forums who develop and/or market their wonderful wares, btw).
But today, for a lack of anything else to do, I hard reset and tried simply setting up that one account to try my machine out in its pure form. Lo and behold, I still get the same error, 'Messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device. Make sure you are connected and that your e-mail account settings are correct. Then, try to download messages again.'
As a matter of fact, it seems this message itself is in error, since it happens when I try to SEND a message, not when I try to receive them. I have even received emails in this account at the same time this error message appears, but at any rate, messages in my outbox do not get sent.
As far as I can tell, all the settings are correct. I have played with them, and tried all the permutations I can think of, but this baby will not send mail via this account. My XpressMail and Hotmail accounts work fine, both sending and receiving, and I can browse the web fine via My ISP or WiFi.
I have spent a lot of time searching the web for an answer to this problem, but it seems it's been quite prevalent with WM5.0 devices for well over a year, and still does not have an answer.
So ... my first post ... which should have been a thank you all, and Happy New Year, has turned into a request for the talents of you folk who know so much more than I regarding these devices.
Can anyone please lend a hand? Also ... is it "legal" to cross-post this message onto other forums on this board?
Thanks so much to anyone who can provide a solution.

I got it working
Like others in this thread I was getting the "unable to download messages to device" error when sending. My solution is:
Try leaving the 'domain' field blank.
It's on the Server Information page, and also on the Outgoing Settings if you 'Use separate settings' for your outgoing server.
Hope this helps you.
Rich
Domian Blank
My Domain is blank and frankly im just getting very agrivated by this. Does anybody eles have other advice to give towards this "cannot download message"?
I've got WM6, I've tried clearing and deleting the account, soft resetting the phone, making sure the domain field is empty, etc. It still gives this error for my POP account while my IMAP account is fine. Anyone find a solution?
Yes, deleting the domain really works in some cases (f.e. Gmail), but the same error occurs in my other account although I delete the domain. And funny thing is that it occurs only when there are some emails in outbox, receiving emails seems to work normnally :S
I'm still encountering this problem after trying everything on this post...
any other ideas?
Just had the same problem tonight. My mail server recently changed IP addresses, so I suspect DNS issues were the cause of my problem. I tried using the new IP address in place of the host name, but that didn't work for me. The account settings didn't seem fixable. Deleting the email account entirely and adding it back did the trick.

Can only receive emails, can't send

I used the proxy settings at the HTC Wiki to setup my Dash with my T-Zones internet. Internet works fine. I'm having a problem with sending mail. I can receive mail fine. When I go to send I get this message:
"The following errors occurred while sending and receiving messages:
the messages cannot be sent . Be certain you have network coverage and that your account information is correct and then try again."
I have a strong signal, get all my emails, can browse the internet. This problem just started happening. WM6 Beta worked fine. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
I'm having a similar problem. I just tried to setup windows live mail, and it only works over wifi. I get that network coverage error every time I try and sync mail over edge.
I didn't use live mail frequently with the beta, but it definitely worked over edge when I did use it....Seems like something is up.
T-Zones service doesn't included email, sounds like they're starting to close up the loophole that allowed you to use it with the T-Zones plan in the past? I think you'll find some other things not working as well, like Messenger?
Incoming v. Outgoing Servers
Your incoming and outgoing servers need to be different. If you can use your home wifi, but not edge to send, that means that you have your isp's info in the settings.
I originally made an IMAP account that could receive anywhere, but could only send when I was using a wifi network for which iIknew the outgoing server (ie. my home wifi). I used the "set up my email" option that tmobile offers, it works pretty well, since it configures the phone to send and receive. I pay for the 5.99 T-Zones plan, and this function works for me. Just make sure you log into your my.tmobile.com account and turn the text message alerts off (they send you, and charge you for, a text message every time you receive a new email).
They're definitely doing something. I can now send and receive from my aol account, but my .mac account keeps asking for my username and password. I can't login.
In the past in the settings of a pop account you can go into email setup and choose "Network Connection: Wap", in wm6 final there is no choice for wap. I think that is what is causing the problems

I noticed this as well, both on my Dash and my Vox. My Vox can use T-Zones to get on the internet with the proxy settings. Email had been working fine since I got it on Friday. The strange thing is is I can send email and receive with my aol accounts fine now (this morning they weren't working, only being able to receive).
My. mac account on my Dash now only is getting incoming mail, I can't send out. Earlier this morning I couldn't even log in or get incoming mail.
T-Mobile is definitely doing something because my aol accounts on both phones send and receive fine, now (hope it lasts)
Gmail is also working now, sending and receiving messages.
Hopefully they are just updating their servers since the official release is coming Friday, at least I hope this is what's going on.
as of 9pm EST even connecting Via WiFi I can't send out mail using my .mac account, only receive.
I get the error "the message cannot be sent. Be ceratin that you have network coveraage and that your account information is correct and then try again."
I can' t understand why I'm getting this using WiFi
Gmail, aol still work fine on both T-Mobile EDGE and WiFi.
Uh-oh... looks like I might be going back to WM5.
Easy fix.
Use the proxy, except for everywhere it says use WAP Network under GPRS and Proxy settings, use Work.
Then make sure your IE uses work and your email uses work.
If you can get your IE working but not your email, here is your fix.
for each email account, go to tools>options>select your account> keep going through your email setup until you get to advance server settings.
click on advance server settings, and under network connection, select the same connection that you use for IE.. (should be anything except The Internet)
select it, then hit done (but you aren't done)
it should take you to the previous screen, then hit next, until you get to finish.
You have to make sure you hit finish to save your settings.
Usually if you can't send from your device you might not have set smpt relay on on your webmail account or enabled pop/smpt in general. I had that with a secure server account that I use for buisness and once I had set the settings to turn smpt relay on I had no problems - except it usually works better if i input the password manually. Gmail I have never had problems with after enabling pop.

ActiveSync Web Exchange Server Trouble

I just recently tried out these new roms (Ricky's and Kavana's), and I absolutely love them. Such a huge difference than using T-Mobile's Rom. I'm just having 1 issue, but it's enough to make me have to roll back to T-Mobile.
ActiveSync syncs up with my company's web exchange server, incoming mail is pushed just fine, mail folders/contacts/calendar all sync perfectly. The only trouble is, when I send an email from my exchange account, I get the following ActiveSync status error:
"One or more e-mail messages were not sent. Please delete the messages that are still in your Outbox and then create and send them again". Sure enough, the message I just composed is in my outbox.
Here is where the weirdness comes in - my email is actually sent successfully, but my phone doesn't know. What ends up happening, I start spamming people with multiple emails, because every time it syncs, it successfully sends the same email again - but still thinks it errored out.
Everything else works perfectly, Edge, GPRS, wi-fi, incoming/outgoing voice calls, receiving email. I've gone back and forth to T-Mobile, written down settings, and everything matches up. Tried Kavana's Rom, Ricky's (a couple different versions of each). Same thing happens if I'm using the Edge connection, or wi-fi. The only rom that works off the bat is T-Mobile's.
So, my phone works, but doesn't seem to know it works.

Tilt2 stops checking for emails.. (Please help!)

Ok, I've posted this on here before and on the AT&T forums, but it's still an issue even with trying different solutions. I currently have the Tilt 2, previously had the Samsung EPIX. I have two email accounts set up on my phone, SBC Global and hotmail (mainly for consistency testing). When using the default WM 6.5 MMS settings my phone will check for e-mails at the regular intervals that I set it to, however it will only UPDATE my phone randomly. Even if I was to do a send/receive it'll check for new messages, and then disconnect without updating my in box. I had this issue with my EPIX but figured it was my e-mail account but I've heard other people aren't having issues with it.
After some feedback I downloaded Seven to use as a push e-mail service on my phone. Most of the time it'll stay connected, but there are periods that it will not connect (has been down for 4 hours today so far) and only a soft reset will fix it. This usually fixes both connection types, but again for how long is not known.
I have tried setting my e-mail accounts up for POP3 and IMAP4. But as I can send/receive and get updated e-mails some times I don't think this is the issue.
Please help as I'm pulling my hair out with this!
have you changed your password recently ?
you could also try deleting the e-mail account on your phone and starting over !
I haven't changed my password for a long while now, and I know that's not it as it'll connect.
I've tried deleting and re-adding the email multiple times. I've even gone as far as hard resetting the phone.

Exchange Email Notifications

So, I've had my Galaxy SIII for about a month and a half and everything seems to work great except for the Exchange email app. Since I've had it, I've had to remove and delete all data related to the Exchange app from the app management (Calendar, Email, Contacts, etc.). This has happened to more than just me. As I do IT work for a university, we have several students, faculty, and staff who have this device, on various networks, who are having the same trouble. These are also on different Exchange servers (students are on a Microsoft managed one and faculty/staff is on an in house server), so I don't believe its just the Exchange server that I'm connected to. Its really frustrating that I have remove and readd the Exchange account every few weeks since all of my contacts are pulled from the Exchange server.
Not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but if so, I was wondering if anyone had a solution to this problem.
Also, since the last time that I had to readd the account, I cannot change the default notification sound. The option is greyed out and the Dew Drops tone is selected. IMO, this is the most worthless tone on the device and I can never hear it when it goes off. If anyone has any ideas as to why I cannot change the notification tone, I would really appreciate it. I use the email account for work and I receive emails daily, so its a little frustrating that I can't hear my email notifications.
I'm not exactly sure what your first problem is. Why do you have to delete data to the exchange app (is this the main stock email app)? I've had no problem with mine.
For your second issue the ringtone being grayed out, make sure you don't have the phone's ringtone volume on silent or vibrate, that will grey out the box.
Not sure if it is the same, but I have a similar problem. Mine seemed more tied to the wifi network the phone was on than anything else.
If I leave one wifi network, then go on 4G, then to a new network, my Exchange servers will not always connect. If I stay put and toggle off wifi, my exchange server will connect over 4G just fine. Or if I do what you suggest by basically deleting the account, it will connect to the exchange server on wifi.
I noticed it most at work - turn the phone on when I leave the house, get to work and connect to wifi, exchange works fine all day. Drive home, walk in the house, and can not connect to exchange server (though wifi internet connection works). My resolution - restart the phone when I walk in the house in the evening. That worked every time. Annoying - yes, but better than deleting and re-adding the account.
Not sure if it is still an issue with the JB update since my work wifi has been out since then. I did a bit of research, and the best explanation I could come up with was something to do with my home router not releasing the phone when I left, and then not allowing it to reconnect fully (I'm not an IT person, so that is as technical as I get). I noticed the behavior other places with wifi as well, but not 100% of the time.
Hope this helps you narrow down your issue.
I had to clear the data from the app manager as it would not connect to the exchange server again when I readded the account without doing this. Not sure what the deal is. Also, I keep having to change the server address. We have 3 different addresses that mobile accounts should take and I have to rotate through these. It appears that the generic outlook.com will no longer find the server with the Galaxy S3.
As for the switching wifi networks affecting it, that may be an issue. We have a couple of WPA2 networks where I work and one of them gives me authentication errors stating that the username and password is incorrect. If I keep trying to connect, it eventually will without having to retype the password in. Never had this issue with the wifi or the exchange server on my Atrix. Just restarting the phone does not solve the issue for me either. It refuses to connect whether its on wifi or LTE.
As for changing the default ringtone for messages, it was greyed out due to being on vibrate...Seems strange that they would do this as everything else (messaging, gmail, etc.) can all be changed while on vibrate. I also have to change this option in two different places, the general settings and the actual account settings, otherwise it will not take affect. Seems like an odd design.
I was hoping that the JB update would fix some of the wifi and exchange issues, but it appears that it hasn't. I guess I will just have to deal with exchange breaking every few weeks...
