NovoTalk - a free Google Chat client - Windows Mobile Software Development

Hi,
I have written an application for QVGA devices (240x320). I felt the lack of a genuine google chat application that was free of charge.
History
v0.1 Beta
Text messages
Avatars
Finger Touch/Scroll Friend List
Marquee for long status messages
New email notification
Tab based Chatting
Notification on new Message (sound + vibrate)
Detect Invisible Users
Friend list sorted just like Windows client (Gtalk) on basis of availabilty and name.
Cool GUI
Notes
NovoTalk is written in C#, so .Net CF 3.5 will be required.
Might not work properly on smartphones.
Tested by me on WM 5,6,6.1 and on HTC Touch with WM 6.5

As of now, I am giving out the cab installer to a selected few beta testers. Once the initial testing is done, I will attach the RC cab file here. There are plans that this application might be open-sourced at a later stage.
Please help me in testing this application.
If you are interested to be a beta tester, please add your request here :

nimbuzz
not bad but what better than nimbuzz or talkonaut?

Nimbuzz requires registration to its own service( which I refer to as third party registration). Talkaunaut is good, but again it adds gtalk2voip bot to your contacts without approval and call features does not work many times. IMHO these according to me are the only good free options, but not clean as the Gtalk Windows client.

a free client is always welcome. any chance it will support other chat platforms ?

Oh yes, the future versions will definitely support other platforms. But my first target is to make it compatible with smartphones.

I am in for beta testing.

It looks good, I going to testing

damn man! you should make yahoo messenger like this...cool app..thanks...

jockeylol & AxlR,
Please PM me your contact info, so that I can send you the .cab file.
chelsea_fc
Thanks! I just want this encouragement to make this application better and more stable. Yahoo Messenger! You read my mind, actually I will be working on it when NovoTalk has a stable version released.
I have sent you .cab file for test purposes.
PS : A call to designers to give some ideas, as I am planning to introduce themes in NovoTalk.

This looks so sweet! Will it also support WVGA in the future?

@jockeylol
I have sent the .cab file to you
yeah, the next release will have support for all resolution, and hopefully for landscape modes too.

nice! Brazil and India will be happy with a Orkut compatible app
we rulz there!

@boto
That's a nice idea. If you meant to say orkut scrap notifications should be done, I tried looking up for that feature, but google has no documentation on it as of now(or at least I could not find one).I don't promise this feature, but I will try to include it in the next release
Thanks for the suggestion!

Wow this looks like a great app, I'm in for beta testing if needed.

@trinest
Yup, you are in [Check your mailbox]
EDIT : It seems Hotmail and other accounts on Live services reject mails from my domain, not sure why though. Do you have alternate contact e-mail?

Looks like a really nice app. I would love to see WVGA support in the future.

@trinest
Sent to your alternate e-mail
@xenokira
Thanks! Yeah that's definitely going to be supported. The feature requests that I have received will require me to code the framework from scratch. So, I expect a much better GUI and faster application.
I think that there is a little less interest in my application at XDA? Please prove me wrong and designers may help me

Make it *nix compatible. I'd pay for that. then you'd have to release under GPL. and I could have source. hah that'd be sweet.

Nice Rom
Nice Rom, fast. 58.8mb Rom after boot. Lockscreen is working now. In Build 23037 the lockscreen is not working, you have to install the fix cab.
Magnifier is off now. Thnx for this Rom.
============================
File explorer is working, but you have to press Hard.
Personal Info?
Where's the Personal Info in this Rom? I need to put my Personal Info, coz I need to register some of my application.
Yeh any kind of menu selecting is practically unusable. You have also included HTCs biotouch with over rulls the WM6.5 scrolling. The WM6.5 scrolling is far nicer than HTCs.

The problem is TouchFlo scroll. To disable it install this cab and reboot device. All fine after that.
Personal Info link...
There's another recent 6.5 build in this forum, and that has the 'Personal Info' link missing too... may be Microsoft have done this on purpose for these pre-release 'test' builds, just to piss off XDA!! It'll take a bit more than that!
Thanks very much for chinese support!
tHanks for the lovely rom, real fast, the clock in taskbar and titanium are synced, nice keyboard with incl SIP cab. Install and uninstall are pretty faster than 23037. thanks aalllop for the cab. All titanium plugins are working. Only defect is the internal storage and storage card are as seperate folders. Sometimes plugins installed in storage card don't run.
Adding......touching the clock in taskbar shows appointments which was missing in 23037.

In development: µIRC - An opensource IRC client

Hello. I am announcing this project here in hope of gathering feedback from the XDA-dev community. A friend of mine and me have been developing this app for a while now, and we think it has reached a point where it is quite usable and presentable. It's still a bit rough around the edges and lacking in advanced features, but we're working to improve it.

wow nice app! Is possible to set host to any www site chat?
If cabbed your app - "Wr4i7t's microIRC Client"
Do you accept donations, cause I have been looking for a program like this. I would love to see it grow.
If this gets blowfish and Linknet/SSL support at some point that would certainly make me donate!
All the existing IRC clients sadly dont seem to want to integrate this library meaning I can never read anything in my channels.
I know this is a first version and these are most likely very advanced requests but if the app is not "built" with this in mind it might not be implementable at a later point.
I have no idea on programming so thats nothing I can help on but I would gladly beta-test any new functions for you.
But for actually starting this project (since all others died) I already have to give you all a big THANKS!!!

This app is an IRC client, so it can only connect to IRC servers. However, in the unlikely case that such a site were to use an IRC backend, you could connect to it.

Thanks for the cab. We're planning to distribute cabs once the app is a bit more mature. However, I'd like to point out that I'm not even the main developer, so don't give me all the credit.

We'll consider adding that feature in the future. Right now, there are other priorities, since the app is still lacking in some very basic aspects, so it can still be a while before we get to it.
Thanks for all your feedback.
Nice work
Awesome client.
In fact the first IRC klient I have tried, where you can actually join channels/networks of your own pick. It runs smoothly on my HD2.
once you get close to zsIRC stability (for me and friends at least) let me know, otherwise...

doesnt get updated often, but havent needed to for the 3 servers and 15 channels i use... cheers (i look forward to a more oft updated IRC client)

The program is actually quite stable right now. What it really lacks is functionality. But yeah, for actual day-to-day usage, you're better off with zsirc, for the time being.
Really awesome, been looking for something like this for a while
Just needs more stability and functionality, but otherwise I'm using it just fine
Thanks!

In this new version there are a lot of new functions, such as new Ui, link to charmbar functions and start menu and an integrated update chacking.
For ptoblems, you can comment here
You can read thge help by clicking "?" in the program

Sorry for the double post, but I saw that there were about 400 visits and had no feedback yet.
I need feedback to improve this program and to determine if it works or if I should keep off this project.
Thanks a lot for downloads and possible feedback.

I have tried this and many of my apps are not loading. Reader, Mail, Video, Music, etc.
Music gives me an error that states: "No apps are installed to open this link (zunemusic)"
Mail gives me a full blown Error Message that states "ERROR in action number 1 of Mouse Event for Left Released for object 46: cannot execute {randomnumbers}:" and gives me an abort, ignore, copy and clear buttons.
This is a pretty cool app if you can get it to work.
It function correctly only for Windows 8 RP and not for RTM for now. An update is on my list
Damn, well alright.
Kindly post update for RTM ...this can really become an awesome app ... since neither RTM allows one to create shortcuts ...
Now I'm working on a minor update that change name (ModernApp link) and o.s. support (only RTM).
However, I'm near to find a solution for creating lnk files for all apps installed.
I'm working on
I'm developing a new version now, but it may request a registry edit (such as first version), but I maybe will able to start all installed apps or a big part.
Because the school, I don't have a lot of time to develop
The app is great, and the paths it uses are teriffic, I can finally use the hotkeys on my keyboard.
I see you use the following command for chat:
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c start "" "mschat:"
how do you find out the name of the app? This simple command line allows me to map hotkeys to apps. I would like to know how you found these so I can find them myself for new apps.
This app has a great future....keep it up op.
Hit thanks if i helped you

I've problem with some apps (all apps, native and thirdy), bu I believe in a solution.
Maybe in xmas holidays I can do something (or relase )

Could you elaborate on "windows protocols"? I could update the list for you as far I can find, cause I would like to use it as well...
And since you have little to no time to update I could help you update the current shortcuts that aren't working anymore so you could provide a small update.
cheers.

Jaxbot's Native Notification Center for Windows Phone 7.8

Weird thing i found is how invisible this release from WPH is.
The Notification Center, the dream of every Windows Phone is forgotten !
I tested the app on my own phone... it doesn't work. OK, but still i found absolutely no thread about this Xap, i think it could be developped if known better (jaxbot has retired from the WP7 scene i think, so i guess he won't do it. We can be grateful for this very good start)

Here is his the presentation of the app found i here
There's been more opposition for this project than with... well, I tried to come up with a good joke, but let's cut to the chase.
I've decided to release a rewrite I made of Notifications. It only works on full unlocked devices. Here's the details:
This app caches the push notifications sent to your phone. So if someone mentions you on Twitter, and you miss the toast, it will appear in Notifications.
This app does not cache non-push messages, such as texts, emails, calls, etc.
Complete rewrite; it works differently than the original Notifications app. No PC tether, no external servers, etc.
The NC service runs on the device. This is why you need your device to be full unlocked.
I'll repeat that. It must be full unlocked, meaning you must be able to run EXE programs on it.
The setup is simple. Download and install it to your device. Run the app, and it should take you to the setup page. Press install, then agree to the disclaimer. It will prompt you to reboot. Do so, and with any luck, it'll work.
I'm releasing it without support. Notifications works for some people, doesn't for others. The problem is likely to do with full unlocking. If you have a custom ROM that is fully unlocked, it should work. As for EXE unlocking rooted devices, it may be hit or miss. We'll see on that.
The source is available on Github. Download the XAP here: ncroot1.xap. If you didn't read anything else: You need a policy unlocked or full unlocked device. If your device is not full unlocked, read the instructions appended below.
Also, if you want to test if it works, install SimplePush. It'll send a quick toast to your device.
Other than that, enjoy. I'm curious to see what the feedback is, and whether or not it works in certain scenarios. I don't know what the demand is to keep working on it, but here it is, and with that, enjoy.
Update: Should now work on interop-unlocked devices, provided you use WP7 Root Tools. To do this, install the XAP, mark it as "Trusted", run Notifications, click Install, and reboot your phone. Presto. Do give feedback on whether or not this works.

It's just a http server written using .Net (not silverlight), that listens for every push notification. But I really don't know what we can develop in this application. Any idea?
well personnaly i don't like the idea to have notification push making my phone ring every minuts (if i'm active on facebook or twitter).
So i use snotify to silence the notifications. This app would be ideal to tell me what did i miss on what app.
That's an exemple for one use, but i'm sure there is many others.
Actualy for twitter, my dream would be an app that puts in cache every tweets i missed (or the number of tweet i missed, even if i'm not mentionned, or every tweet from some selected profiles) so i would know if its worth opening the app or no (instead of checkin every 10 mins if there's something interesting) but we're maybe out of subject !
Any idear why it wouldn't work on my device btw ? I am full unlocked (septvies's devbuild_8862 1.5) on samsung Omnia 7
