New Touch Pro2 - what to do First - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Just got my new Touch Pro2 in the mail today, i will be retiering my Titan and activating the TP2 on the Verizon network.
Question: is there anything i should do first before activation?
I plan on installing one of the custom rom and have already downloaded HardSPL to unlock the phone.
Using the phone with Verizon is there a need to upgrade the Radio at this point?
Just want to make sure before fire this thing up.

Have a look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=517
That is your section
Enjoy!

Why don't you first start working with the device?
I'm still using the original WM6.5 ROM and have no problems with it.
Just my 2 cents.

First , press the power button and check if the the device works smoothly

get a quality screen protector and put it on
charge it up and turn it on
use it for a while and see how you like it
Hard spl it
use it more and see if there is anything you want or dont want on it that will help you decide which Rom to use
enjoy playing with it. We all say we use these things for business etc but what we all really like is the fact we can play with them and truely make them our own.

Yes, I would def invest in a nice case for it. I have the tmobile version, and a slight drop already scratched the hell out of the bottom. They sell a few cheap clear plastic ones on ebay. I got one and I think it makes its it look so much nicer.

hi, all these answers mean the same: just use ist. well, in fact BEFORE activation there is nothing much to do..
its unimportant for using defferent ROMS or any else software or/and upgreades if u activated the phone before or after activation because each important change of the rom or something will delete every custom data on the phone. i dont know if there is something that wil be stored after activation of the hardware wich wont be deleted.
i was using my phone for month and then i changed the rom, upgraded to 6.5 and all these stuff and after each change i had to input each custom data and information again (i was using some backup programms and stuff to set the phones content back to the state of my first usage like integrated microsoft myphone and spb backup)
there was nothing that told me that i have less possibilities after the activation than i had before. so just use it.
but dont forget: if you woud install programms and patches BEFORE an bigger upgrade or change of the ROM, they all will be lost after the patch/upgrade.
and another tip: just make changes u really need. as the british people say: never touch a running system. sure, on custom ROMs and Patches there are some nice features but always ask youself: do i need it? if not theres a lot of work for nothing and if u will make any bigger mistakes its possible you will crash your phone. and no one will give back your money.
but just to explain my status: i am a WM beginner. maybe everything i said is wrong
everything i said is just subjective my opinion

Vogue Custom ROMs ?

Anyone out there brave enough to share up their OEM ROM?
Or even the original WWE from HTC?
From what I understand, there's at least 3 carriers in NA w/ HTC Vogue: AFAIK, we've got Sprint, Bell and Telus.
People, share up your ROM!
Doesn't look like there are too many people who want to help you with this. I'm looking into swapping my Titan for a Vogue in the near future so once I have it I will find out how to dump the Rom and see whats even possible. I would say that the only real reason to build a custom ROM with this particular device would be to remove all of the bloatware from Sprint. It is the TOUCH, the epitome. It is what everyone else here is trying to replicate. Why change it except to maybe change the page pool or remove unwanted apps? It's already great as it is.
I hate the sprint bloatware - forced Sprint page start up on mobile IE, etc, I dislike what Sprint has done with the ROM. more then willing to be a test case.
actually....
actually it is possible and the oem roms are posted if you search.
I have a touch and i've had it since they day it came out. A couple weeks after it was released ImCokeMan released a patched SPL to allow you to flash with custom roms.
There are also OEM Roms for the Touch from Sprint readily available if you do a little searching. I'd suggest checking out ppcgeeks.com
btw... i've cooked several custom roms for the Sprint Touch (Vogue). The thing is that the Touch (Vogue) has a pretty solid, high performance rom to begin with. There are only a few modifications that anyone would even desire in a custom rom at this point...
again "search" is your friend.
Thx; however, there's only a couple out there from Sprint... I was hoping to try out some other OEMs....
Vogue is a pretty strong ROM... not much to add to it except GPS and WIFI... that's the "million dollars question...
I just want the strip down non-sprint OEM ROM.

This could also be problematic... Without the extras that Sprint adds onto the ROM(barring Pocket IE), it could affect the phone functions as well couldn't it? This is not a standard GSM phone we are talking about here that simply needs a Network Wizard to automatically configure for carrier. This is a little more advanced.
I believe removing all non-OEM settings/apps from the ROM might render it not usable on their network.
However, one way is to input some network settings manually afterwards....
##778# gives you some details to maybe copy manually....
For Bell, my touch has
the radio version of 1.59.1 and rom version 1.17
Well I think that someone needs to build some kind of custom ROM if anything. The Touch has a bad memory leak in the official ROM. If you leave the device on, plugged in and turned on, for more than 24 hours you will notice a considerable memory leak. The device has 128Mb of RAM and after soft-reset with nothing running on the device other than the OS, it has 77Mb free. After being turned on for more than 25 hours without soft-reset, it only has less than 45Mb free. That more than 30Mb leak is a big problem for anyone looking to max out their system and add all of the latest and greatest apps and games for their phones.

I thought this was a bug in WM6 in general. I have seen alot of Mogul users complain about this as well.
It is a common problem with most Windows Mobile 6 based devices but I have seen it fixed. It's a major leak I'm talking about though. Nothing small and annoying, but a BIG leak that is aggravating.
telus rom
I will give you a copy of my telus rom if you tell me how to dump it, I'm kind of a noob
From what's mentioned, it seems as though my Bell Touch is pretty much a bare ROM, not much bloatware installed by bell, and what's there is easily removed. It even comes preloaded with Esmertec Jbed.
Pretty cool, as canadian providers usually cripple the crap out of their phones. I hope this is a sign of change in our mobile industry.

Radio: 1.59.00
Would be nice if bell released updates regularly
I read a post on PPCGeeks that said you can by-pass the Sprint customizations. In the post it said the only thing you have to do is manually load the cabs for Sprint TC and Win Live. I have been thinking about doing a Hard Reset anyway to clean out some of the foot prints left by things I have installed and then removed.
I will give it a try and report back.

Yes, you can opt out of most of the Sprint stuff at the initial power on of the device. Immediately when the Vogue launches into windows and the theme is still at the teal WM6 default a popup appears with a 3 second timer set to press YES. If you press NO then it does not load up the black Sprint theme (your sign that it did not go through) and the expected stuff. I am not positive if a hard reset will take you back to that point.

How to take out all AT&T apps on Tilt2

Hey,
I just got mine tilt2 and i dont realy wanna start flashing it yet but i'm not liking all that att crap.
Is there a way like on the old tilt to do soft reset anfter you do clear storage to load only base software with out att stuff.
I've tried few times but with out any luck.
I know you said dont wanna flash yet but I cant see another option to get rid of all crap carriers install.
And on my experience cooked ROM´s by our great Chefs here are always much better than the "official" ones...
Yea I agree. I think the only way ur truly going to get rid of that bloat is to flash a new ROM. Its like buying a dell computer. The only way ur gonna get rid of all of the bloat is reformat the OS.
i dont have the tilt 2 yet, but with the fuze all you had to do is do a hard reset, and then when it goes to teh screen "customizing in 3 seconds", just soft reset the phone. it worked on the fuze, and i''m assuming it should work on the tilt
when we remove the AT&T bloatware, will it remove AT&T appcenter? i'd like to keep that...considering its basically WM marketplace.
I just went to settings tab, removed the AT&T tab from Manila.
Then went to the \Device\Program Files and removed all the games manually.. As well as the Mall and whatever other things I know I'll never use.
Then I went to the Start Menu (with Resco, showing all files), removed all the AT&T shortcuts I don't need, moved stuff around..
Now it's nice'n'snappy, and I don't see any AT&T stuff I don't want.
Thats one way to do it. Of course most of the bloat is still there just more hidden now. I'm not sure if you can interrupt the customization in wm6.5 and still have a successful boot. I would think that a lot of the stuff that is in the ROM is in the base not in the customization. Thats just my assumption based on my ROM cooking knowledge
Meh.. I'm sure it's not all bloat.. I bet some of it is actually some needed fixes/tweaks for at&t network..
Whatever the case, it runs fast and we'll see how it goes.
i agree. this is way i wanna keep this rom, i just wanna cleenit up a bit.
i cant seem to overide internet tab properties (xml file in widows folder) so every time i open opera from the tab it loads att.net. i tired to modify reg and still nothing. there r also other things that drive me nuts.
i like it to be clean but i guess is just me.
Why not just cook your own ROM? You don't have to make major changes u can just remove some of the extra packages and recompile the ROM.
thats good idea. How can i extract current rom out of my phone?
would i use kitchen or do i need some other software?

The TP2 does not have an extended memory partition like some previous HTC devices (My old Hermes for example). That extended partition was used to hold the bloatware installers that were configured to run after the first reboot whenever the device was hard reset.
The bad news is that the bloatware is now cooked directly into the ROM by HTC.
The good news is that the space that would be lost to extended memory is usable.
Some of those cooked in bloatware apps might still be uninstallable via the remove programs applet but will still have traces left behind.
S

Nervous Newb

So I just picked up a Tilt 2 from a buddy. It runs horribly slow, and through file explorer and such I've removed a lot of the junk bloatware.
Basically I'm just looking for any tips/advice while I build up the courage to do my first flash.
Anything anyone could share would be greatly appreciated!
Read, read, read. Then do some searching and read some more. Don't be in too much of a hurry. That's my advice. And welcome to the boards.
First things first, it is super easy, just follow the steps and everything should work. One of the most important things to remember is, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS check if the software you are downloading is compatible with your version of WM or TF3D. You can check this info by going to start > settings > system > device info >software information.
Depending on what your buddy did to the phone, he could have completely screwed it all up. I would recomend doing a couple hard resets on the device (with the device off hit your power button, the send key and the volume down, it should bring you to a grey screen where you can reset to manufacture defaults). Next, since you are on AT&T go look for some specific AT&T ROM fixes (AT&T speed fix, dynamic proxy, nopushinternet are three big ones for WM 6.1, not sure about 6.5).
Keep reading around and when you come across something you don't like do some searches, about 99% of the information i've ever wanted was findable via a google search.
When I got it from him I erased memory, and reset it to how I wanted. He wasn't really into modding so it was pretty much stock.
All I know really is:
radio is 4.48.25.20
Rom: 1.59.502.3 (67150) WWE
If that means anything to anyone.
Thanks for the kind replys. I was hoping to not get too flammed!
that seems like some really old stuff. Yeah, it took me a full month to get up the courage to run HardSPL..when I did, it didn't work 4 times in a row (screen would just go black (not like suggested it would) and would stay that way). I got so scared, but luckily every time it didn't work, my phone still worked, so no brick. Finally on my last attempt before I was going to give up for good, it worked!! now I've flashed a few roms and it is awesome.
My advice, like others is to read a lot, memorize the HardSPL post (read: read it a million times) before you attempt it and make sure you're doing it when you have nothing but free time and no interruptions (I was doing it at work and people coming in and out of my office, was not fun!)
For your first flash you will need to remember that you are a GSM device, anything CDMA will not work. Read up on Hard SPL your GSM device and Flashing your first GSM ROM. Both of those are the groundwork for everything you will be doing, it is important to understand them fully.
I would suggest doing a hard reset following this technique:
Clear Storage via start menu (start > settings > system > Memory or Clear storage).
Flash Stock ROM
Remove battery, replace after 30 seconds and Clear Storage
Flash Favorite ROM
Remove battery, replace after 30 seconds and Clear Storage
That should fully wipe your storage and you will experience a much quicker OS. Also, you might wanna try the follow:
SSK Dynamic proxy cab
AT&T Tilt 2 Data speed fix
NoPushInternet
That should improve performance as well.
Thanks for the tips!!
Another question... How do I know what will go with my phone? Will everything say Tilt 2 in the title?? I see a lot of Pro, etc but just want to make sure...

Any GSM tools (ROMs, Radio ROMs, unlockers, etc.) made for the HTC Touch Pro2 (Rhodium) should work on your AT&T Tilt2. Things for the original HTC Touch Pro (Raphael) will not work on your Tilt2, as will things made for CDMA Worldphone Touch Pro2 variants, and when used on your device will likely brick it. Ensure that any tools or ROMs you use are GSM and for the Touch Pro2/Rhodium/Tilt2, and you will be fine
For the Tilt2 I really recommend that you start off after your hard reset by installing and running Crud Scraper. It will get rid of all the bloatware that will be reinstalled after a hard reset.
Then as others have said read lots, make lots of backups so that if you load something that doesnt work right or you dont want you can just reload a known good backup. I use Sprite and like it a lot.
The phone will also be a lot faster if you dont run TF3D. It does use a lot of memory and although it looks nice it doesnt really do anything. It is a personal choice however.
I would play around with different settings and tweaks with the stock rom until you find out what you really like. Then you can flash a rom that has the stuff you want in it.
That was the first thing I disabled! That 3D crap was horrendous! I deleted a lot of stuff through the file browser and it's a noticeable amount better. The one thing I dont like is the browser. It's the slowest thing I've ever used! I get non-stop errors and cant do half the stuff I want! Even on wifi, it's slow. Maybe it's just the phone itself, idk. Other than that, it's getting better. Ill try that cleaner, thanks again for the suggestions!

[Q] Antivirus, Rooting, and Gingerbread questions

First of all, let me apologize for being very ignorant about most of the stuff on here, even though I am very interested. I have looked and can not find a definitive answer, although I believe I should have antivirus, I have no idea what to use. I have Norton Systemworks on my PC. I also want to root my phone to be able to get rid of some of the factory installed garbage on it. I have been told that it is not wise to delete some of the installed apps because android uses parts of some to make others work. Is there anyway to do a total recovery image of my stock phone so if I totally screw it up, I can fall back on it? I think so, based on what I have read here---but honestly, I got a headache yesterday reading on here and trying to learn. I am not a super-techy guy, I just want my phone to do what I want it to, and none of the extra crap that I don't want. And lastly, should I wait to root my phone until Gingerbread comes out, or will it really matter? While I do know what a rom does and is, I do not understand kernels or most of the other things on here, so i actually need 'hand-holding' through some of this. Thank you for your help...anything you can tell me will help out.
hey man. i am willing to help you thorugh this entire thing. pm me for any more questions, but here is a start. it seems you have a baisic computer working knowledge, so this wont be too hard. first, a kernel is the scripts that let the hardware communicate with the software. the nice thing about this is it can easily be modified and built upon. a few devs have added scripts and stuff to the stock kernels to make them much more powerful and battery efficiant.
this recovery image you are talking about wont fix you phone if you screw it, but it will take you back in time to when you made the backup. you can also unroot to take off any mods you have applied. always remember to MAKE A NAND BACKUP WHENEVER YOU DO ANYTHING WITH YOUR PHONE THAT COULD REMOTELY BE CONSICERED A MODIFICATION. otherwise, you can end up with a very expensive paperweight.
there are partitions on the phone's memory. there are things like userdata and cache, but there are three main ones that we will mess with: system, recovery, and hboot. system is the rom of the phone. it is the software. it si obvious why this would be altered: to get better, more efficiant, or cooler software. then, we have the recovery. this is a factory tool for resetting and manual updating. this is packed with security, but there is no security that keeps us from changing the recovery. get where i'm going? if we change the recovery to one that has been heavily cracked and maybe built from scratch by a very talented dev (i reccomend amonra's recovery) then we can make the phone believe it is being updated when we are really modifying it.
the hboot is a developmental factory partition that is used for total firmware updates and google/android development. removing the security from this is the first stage in rooting.
i would highly reccomend rooting, and would be happy to 'hold your hand' along the way. i hope this helps and does not just confuse you more.
dk
oh, almost forgot. dont wait for gingerbread. the devs will make some roms that will include gingerbread packed in. i actually reccomend you root before gingerbread so you dont have to wait for a root method for that.
lookout antivirus can be found in the market.

Like mhoodie, I, too, am a newbie in need of hand-holding. How do I make a nand backup? My EVO is rooted 2.1 with XDA- WiFi Tether, no 147.651.~.~. How to upgrade to Froyo and maintain root? How can a friend with brand new Evo root and load XDA- WiFi Tether? AFTER these I'd like to know how to flash a ROM. I wouldn't worry about using an anti-virus on android, they're pretty much useless and will do nothing but eat up your battery. Once you root you can install a custom recovery that you have to reboot the phone in and that can create backups of all your partitions. Those are called nandroids and are basically a snap shot of how your phone is set up at that moment. You must be rooted to do any of this though.
Ok, just because I do not quite understand....why is it that I do not need antivirus on my Evo since I surf the web, download apps, and open emails.....on a PC, the same things without protection against virus, trojans, etc... will get my pc and life screwed in a very short time? And, by 'screw my phone up', I mean if I delete something that I need.....can I just go back---also, is there anywhere a list of the apps that android uses to run other things. Specifically, I want to get rid of the exchange mail, amazon mp3,qik, peep, friendstream, nascar, stocks, news, news and weather. I have no need for these apps, and as most of you know for whatever reason, evo will run them whenever it wants.
i have no idea about antiviruses, but you can delete anything that is either a widget or an app in your launcher. everything else is proceed with caution.
definitely root...antivirus is a personal thing...I do use lookout and its free in the market.
after you root...I suggest using titanium backup to uninstall most if not all of those apps you mentioned.
you could also go the custom ROM route...most ROMs out there already have most of those apps removed already.

Antiviruses being useless, so far, on android is just my opinion. If you feel better having one then by all means go for it.
There is a thread around here somewhere that has a list of all the apps you can safely delete, I don't have a link to it atm but you should be able to find it with a quick search.
Imo root now, nothing is holding us back with unrevoked forever, as for bloatware, have you tried flashing a rom? VirusRom Anthrax B4 is my poisen, and its bloat free¡

For me, personally, I never have and never will use antivirus programs on my computer. As long as you are knowledgeable, you shouldn't ever get viruses or anything. You just have to know what you are doing.

im no genius but i have been messing with rooting and android since the tmobile g1 and i had to learn all on my own. what everyone is telling u makes absolute sence but the main thing to stress is tell your friend to not update using sprints update firmware because all they do is patch the loophole to gain root access. dont wait for gbread. jump on team douche and cyanogen and enjoy the real power of android and the evo. any quetions [email protected]
Ok, so does it matter what procedure I use to root or do they all do basically the same thing, and then differences begin when I start changing the kernels and Rom around? I am going to try to root in a couple of weeks. Maybe next saturday, and I want to get as much understanding as I can before I jump in. I am sure once I play around with this for a bit I will have no problem, but I am very much a hands-on learner and its hard for me to learn something that is new to me just by reading, especially when most of what I am reading makes very little sense to me. So, thanks to everyone for their patience and help!
Myn's WarmTwopointTwo
Hi there. I was in the same boat as you are. I learned all by trail and error and by reading forum after forum. There is a ton of info out there and it can be a little too much and there are a lot of contradicting statements... I just rooted about 3 weeks ago using unrevoked3. It's the easiest way to root your phone and the safest, at least I believe that. There are other ways, but it include using the command line and things like that. With unrevoked its a very simple user friendly, 3 step process. I would highly recommend rooting your phone, once you do you will never look back. It bring out the full potential in the EVO. The best thing I like about it is I can get about double the battery life of the stock version. Check this ROM out - although it is the only one I tried I am so in love with it, I have absolutely no urge to try another ROM. Here is the second release of this ROM - the third one is in beta testing, which I am doing right now and it is 100% amazing. In order to become a beta tester, all you have to do is donate, or wait until this friday when the final version is released - FOR FREE! Here is the link for the release #2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793471#. You can read the thread if you have any questions about it - I know there are 600+ pages. Check out the first page and all the features that are included in this ROM. All the bloatware you speak of are not installed with this ROM. You have the option to install them. Then the other thing is the kernel. With the release 3 of WarmTwoPointTwo it comes with an HTC kernel, which I found to actually be the best out there for this ROM. I have been getting about 29 hours with moderate use with a single charge on the battery!! Pretty good huh? Please let me know if you have any more questions....You can send me a private message if you wish...I'm here to help you. Everyone on this site has been great with helping me and it seems they are willing to help anyone. I hope this helps. Oh you I just remembered you might wait until saturday to root. If you do that, I would def. recommend release #3, but if I were you I would not wait that long!
Here's a screen shot of just my home screen. Notice how much you can customize EVERYTHING. I will post more screen shots when I get time tomorrow.
I am getting ready to root my phone and when I connected to the pc, it was the first time. Drivers installed except for ADB. Is this something that I should skip, or do I need to get a driver from htc for this?
adb is very neccesary. it is obtainable from android's dev page. sorry no link (ipad) just google android go to dev section and hit download sdk.

[Q] Final fantasy 4

Hello, first post here (and sorry if the english is a little cracky:laugh
My phone, HTC wildfire S, rooted and unlocked about a year ago, had a few roms on it (fun to try some new ones^^) for now i'm running spock rom
My problem is FF4 and it wont start up, i read a lot of threads about it, i had the apk and files, modded googleplay (u need this to go pass verification) going to all the steps, and when i try to start it, it's black screen and back to homescreen.
I had read that FF4 wont run on rooted phones when u buy it from playstore, so only way is to download it from other sites, i had read on a bunch of sites how to install this, and it wont start up
Anyone had it runs on WFS mobile? know the mobile isnt very gaming friendly but was thinking:
"maybe there is a best rom for playing"?
"or a trick or two to go deeper to config the mobile for better gaming (no idea what i'm talking about here so if there is, please use easy words on how to^^) maybe cpu higher (or lower?)
very thankful for answer

Our phone's specifications are pretty outdated......I don't think FF4 would work on our phones even with overclocking

Yeah, u have a point there, it's true is getting a bit old, and the speecs isnt that good.
but its says that FF4 is working on our phone and the grapichs and stuff isnt that good, its basic a porting from the old game i think, or maybe the ds version and redone to fit a smartphone.
FF3 worked fine on our phone, and FF4 has not that much bigger speecs. So i should work and run pretty good i think.
anyway, i have tried a few roms now and test if FF4 works, but its the same result: black screen and back to home screen so i think i give up if not anyone has a suggest of what to do. :good:
