Apparent Android 2.1 SQSH Really fast, and stable - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Android Development

Hey guys, i found the attached build from zenulator in the Vogue forum, been playing with it for a while and i must say it really great. The only problem i've found is that the WiFi is working. The problem appear to be similar to that which we had when the first eclair builds came out. I tried the updated rootfs to get the wifi to work but still no luck. Believe me guys if we can get this build together well it would really sweet!!
P.S. i have no skills in programming for linux, but still i'm will to help in testing further if possible.
Android Eclair 2.1 http://www.4shared.com/file/180373749/2e85c593/eclair-221209.html

wow, this system is really fast, i mean REALLY! fast....
and the startup animation (4 colours) is awesome!!!
in my opinion it's the best i've ever tested..
but... how about the MUSIC player app/spare parts? :/

It's 2.0.1 though, not 2.1.
zenulator said:
This is an Eclair 2.0.1 build taken from the 2.0.1 sdk image and parts of the droid/milestone/nexus and the launcher from manup456's build and also part of his build.prop. Settings reads this as 2.1 but it isn't. It's just for compatibility with some nexus apps.

That being said, you can just use the 2.0.1 build found on this forum. I'm not stopping you from trying zen's, but like I said, it's not 2.1. Plus polyrhythmic's build has wi-fi.
By the way, here are some screenshots I found of what is apparently Flan (2.1).

Hey guys, the eclair thread is already existed, it's not necessary to post another here, the only new thing is adding the Nexus One Bootanimation, nothing new other than that... and if you read Zen's thread carefully, you would know that the most important unsolved problem is the current Eclair build never sleep!!! the drainage is so bad that it's not for daily use right now...

ok, fair enogh, but is it possible that the performance gains in this build could be done in the eclair 2.0.1 floating around? Becase i have used both and the performance of this one is actually alot faster!

Wow! Reaaly fast! Love it

Fast and stable!
Wifi is not working and the sound from speaker is broken intermittently...
I love this version....
Hope some fix for above problem...

Polyrhythmic's Eclair build in this same forum has wi-fi...

Hi All
it is fast, but my current new updated version i had seen on the vogue thread was also fast, and some nice graphics:

Best Android

Hi All,
Been looking around, (ive tried android on my kaiser once), and just wondered what is the best (most stable) android for kaiser, as a lot of them seem to have a lot under "not working"?
Thanks,
Tom,
Kinda hard to answer, since no one Android build has anything working 100%.
Myn’s Warm Donut will get you most of your stuff working, but there's still a lot of bugs.
Incubus26Jc's Super Eclair is pretty good, but you lose out on Camera and Bluetooth. Less bugs then Donut, but more stable IMO.
Although Polyrhythmic hasn't updated his 2.1D for a while, I still think it's the best of the eclairs. For Donut, Myn's is really the only game in town.
Eclair is still struggling with non-working camera, but GPS , WiFi, and BT are working reasonably well, if you are prepared to invest some time into hunting out the best combination of nbh and build.
Donut is reasonably complete, I have had Myns working with WiFi, GPS and Camera, or GPS, BT and Camera, but never managed all working at once, it is the most feature-complete and arguably the most stable build of all.
Given that we have only had Android on our kaisers since the end of last year, I still think that all the devs have done a remarkable job, and development continues.
Compared to the start of the year, when all that was possible was running from SD, with battery life measured in minutes, no wifi, gps, bt or camera, I think what we have now is a complete OS, it's been my everyday phone OS now for months, and once you get into a few good habits, it's stable and smooth, with decent battery life.
Thanks for replies guys,
I have installed Myn’s Warm Donut, but it seems the graphics are a bit weird, they seem like they are the wrong bit depth or something, not quite sure how to describe it.
Any help on this please?
Thanks,
Tom

Q: I installed Android but now everything is blurry.
A: It's due to wrong resolution. Kaiser phones have panel for 230x320 but you're probably using 320x480 build. Here is a post by user tatnai where he explains this situation for Vogue devices (it goes same for Kaiser).

Myn's Warm Donut is basically a scaled down version of 320x480 resolution to fit 230x320 panels, with 110 density, hence the blurriness.
One build with native 230x320 I like is vilord's Tattoo Sense, but there is a camera and BT audio not working problem in that build - hopefully incubus26jc's next release will fix this.

vilord's Tattoo Sense sounds pretty good, and it has rosie which I'd love to see working stable. I think I'll try this on the weekend, but just wanted to know, has anyone tried this? is it stable and/or fast? Its for the touch, but as far as I've seen, vogue builds work for kaiser... would this work too?

Hi, thanks for reply, not that I don't believe you, but its not so much blurryness, there are pink and green bits everywhere? Or is this what your describing?
Thanks again,
Oh thats because you´ve choosed a wrong paneltype. Kaiser was built with 3 different Panels so you have to choose the right one. Look at the second sticky thread.

I've tried it and believe it's the best Android build so far, despite BT and Camera problem (which we should be able to fix as it is Donut 1.6 Android).
For Kaiser you should use kallt_kaffe's update to get Wifi working and it also fixes Rosie and Market.
Thanks for info.
Ok please dont flame me, ive looked around and I used to flash windows mobile all the time, but I really dont understand these nbh files.
What are they, what do they do, why are there different ones e.g voguimg.nbh and kaisimg.nbh and polimg.nbh
Thanks for your patience with me

VOGUIMG is for Vogue devices, POLAIMG is for Polaris devices and KAISIMG is for Kaiser. Think of them as some sort of bootloaders for Android. You flash the NBH, boot to the install console, install Android from SD to NAND/SD/EXT2 and boot Android. Also you have to choose the correct panel to avoid screen problems you're having. The only way to see which panel are you using on Kaiser is to test all three of them and see which one doesn't cause you screen problems.
To test which panel you're using you should first make an SD install with Haret, there you have the option to specifiy panel type in the config file default.txt and can change this before every boot. With NAND this is hard-coded into NBH file. Later you can flash to NAND if you decide to stick with Android.
Please go thru this Q/A topic, it should help you get the answers to most of newbie-type questions.
I´m not a developer and especially on android i´m a noob but i think the NBH contains all what is going to be flashed into nand. In case of WiMo it´s the whole Operating system, somtimes with radio too. In case of android the NBH contains the Kernel only. The kernel is designed for your device with all the drivers you need (touchscreen, wifi, BT, GPS, etc.). so kernels from other devices may not work becaus of other hardware specs. in worst case it may brick your device. I read alot before i flashed my kaiser an kallt_kaffe´s kernel seems to be the best for now. Nearly all funktions are available. Only the Camera have a bug, but i think it only takes only a little time to fix this too.
I use kallt_kaffe´s kernel and Myn´s Warm Donut RLS5 and i´m totally happy with it. Fingerfriendly (you´ll never need your stylus again except for reset ^^), and much more responsive then the fastest WiMo ROMs.
You only have to modify the nbh for your panel type. But you only can do trial & error to find out which type you have.
So... happy flashing.
Thanks everyone for your help, I have the tattoo sense rom on my phone now, my phone uses panel2 type of kaiser nbh.
I now understand the nbh better.
As im more then likely going to upgrade to a newer android rom when more stable ones come out, can anyone recommend a android application that will allow me to backup my txts, emails, contacts, and settings, etc.
Thanks all

Android Build Index - Look here before asking

SORRY PPL, I no longer have a Kaiser, so I can't update this list anymore.
Since I'm sick with people asking for the best android build all the time, I created an index of build with thing that not working. If the mod can sticky this then it will be good. If you have any other build, feel free to post it and I'll add it to the main post.

i would also note that sense is a customization by HTC and not a version of android
Changed it to sense. I put sense as a catagory because it use a different launcher and apps. Music, Album and more are all htc's version, not just a skin

That is true but you still need a donut .nbh
Its basically the same thing as manilla(touchflo) on wimo
Manila doesn't extend as far. HTC made replacement program for most of the android program. Even the setting is a HTC one

manilla is just what we call the wimo hack. same thing. of course different OS are going to be different.

I haven't used a Tilt in about three years so it's difficult for me to know what works and what doesn't especially since I haven't tried Android on the Tilt (well... maybe once).
If the OP wants this thread to remain active then (s)he can edit the first post with the updated information. I am assigned to three different threads with thousands of posts to monitor. I can't be assigned to just this one in particular. If it's going to be up to me to keep the first post updated then I'll be eventually closing it only because there is no way I can keep it updated. So I'm designating the responsibility to the OP.

[ROM COLLECTION] [08/16/2010] Exciting ROMs you've never heard of!

I was a little (very) bored so I decided to use google translate to search for ROMs in other launguages and here's a few that looks very promising (websites are in the language they where posted in. Use google translate to translate xD)
Elelinux FroYo, Also a translated version of this but looks more like google translate xD This is in my oppinion THE BEST Cyanogen 6 ROM! It's EXTREMELY smooth and it has some awsome awsome themes. If you then equip it with the Flykernel it gets even smoother and even better in benchmark. Tip: For the original kernel OverclockWidget seems to be working much better than SetCPU
EDIT: I must say it's a tie between the two kernels (elelinux or ninpo´s or however made that kernel for elelinux Froyo im not sure kernel might actually be a little better) I'm getting around 5.2-5.3 MFLOPS with the default kernel (748MHz) and it goes up high sometimes so I'm using that currently
Elelinux Legendary, Translated thread or at least almost I think A legend port so it has some nice features like FriendStream it also looks a little more up to date than other legend ports? It has a very nice theme too!
EDGEHero, Holy ****! Performance orgasm! Hust tried this and I thaught I was in love with Cronos Droid but OMFG am I cheating on it xD Anyways the one thing I notice when I saw this was the posibility for OC up to 844MHz yup 844MHz (yes my phone can take it )! Just read that this also has a theme
FramHero Pretty much a standard ROM but it has a very nice theme
bFROYO A Cyanogon 6 ROM with some nice features and it looks like it has got a REALLY cool theme too
7Hero A Russian ROM (not language wice) mainly made for Russians but it looks like it has some nice add-ons etc.
eVanilla Looks like it's a cyanogen 5.0.8 ROM. Focus in this ROM is clearly at performance
So if you've tried these ROMs what do you think? If you know another undiscovered wonder please let me know!
maybe you can find something, what you didn't see yet on the xda forums

I don't know where it came from default language is non-english but as long as you know your way around menus you can switch it to english pretty easily.
great rom
all I found missing (which was a deal breaker) was exchange - it's not listed in accounts to add.
And finally, the very experimental...
[email protected]_2.2 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=580339&highlight=froyo
It's cool, works well, but for me has three fundamental issues:
- voice call sound quality is terrible, something's wrong there (But dev says it's fine for him). I've tried different radios, I've patched different audio files as per his suggestions, nothing's changed anything. sound in speaker is lacking in treble, and people on other end can't really hear me at all.
- not exchange support (yet)
- doesn't support our favorite apps2sd, doesn't even allow for an ext partition to be on the card. it's very froyo-only in design that way. if the above two things worked then I'd reformat to only fat32 and give it another try, but the voice sound quality bug is a blocker for me. however it's a cool design, very alternative font, sexy looking, nice layout, nice alternative default apps. An interesting rom, fun to play with. if sound quality somehow just "works" for you then it might be a daily user.

Never used the real official 2.1, only team villains version. However I never had any problems with it and for the tasks I do with my phone it was more than enough. Mind though that I do not play games or stuff on my phone. I use it for SMS, Email, calls etc. For that, it worked great. Only reason I switched ROM was to try the various vanilla ROMs and never really found my way back...

That's kinda like me I only flash ROMs that's almost all I use my Hero for xD
Elelinux just updated his FroYo ROM. Translated changelog:
Changelog 2010-08-08
ROM updated. No wipe, simply flash over previous version.
Removed launcher2
Removed Gallery 3D
Added LauncherPro
Added Astro
Added phonebook
Built a new kernel. Counting on better battery time, added conservative as a choice for SetCPU, on demand is still default.
Recommended setting is 352MHz as the lowest if SetCPU is in conservative mode. Otherwise it could sleep too "hard" and have strange colors on wake. Running 352/652MHz with conservative on my Hero.
Minor graphical changes with black status bad and white text. If anyone wants the white I will upload that as well.
Here is an update to remove 3D Gallery.

[ROM] AOSP rom from vibrant forum (by eugene373 et al.)

hi! like many of you i have been waiting for a clean aosp rom and it looks like we get some first taste of the forbidden fruit there. i found the following in the vibrant forums:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=757000
remember it's for the vibrant and it's alpha (no radio & other things) but i guess it should work for the i9000 as well. it's just a start but finally things are happening . i will give it a try shortly
thanks to eugene, barak and possible others i don't know of!
just flashed it and played a little bit and here is my report:
* wlan works but is slower than stock
* calling works but 3g-data doesn't
* camera doesn't work
i didn't test:
* bluetooth
* gps
everything else seems to work and is quite smooth!
quadrant-score: 859, 875, 845
very nice work for an alpha version! i'm quite excited for what's to come
edit:
* after sync and reboot wlan seems to be as fast as normal...maybe my isp f***** up (again).
* after moving /data/data to /dbdata/data (dbdata is not used by this rom) this thing is FLYING!
* everything seems stable so far
i think i will keep this for now even if data is not working. awesome experience to have stock android (again)!
Very nice to see a asop on the way. Lets hope some I9000 dev have the time to adapt this for galaxy

nope. just flash the zip with clockwork over an existing firmware (in my case JM2). first boot will take a littel longer because of odex-ing.
Great to see some work on AOSP for the Galaxy S series. I've been surprised that no-one's done anything on it before, but confident that if the right people turned their minds to it they'd be able to get it running (even if all the drivers aren't sorted at first).
I don't really have a problem with TouchWiz, considering that I'm actually using LauncherPro and like the notification bar toggles etc. However, AOSP builds make me confident we'll see Gingerbread (and beyond?) because we won't have to depend on Samsung.
Wow, this is good news! I'm looking forward to having a stock Android. Although I want to try Sense more!
Im guessing once this becomes more stable, Sense is not far off?
wow, very good news.... when 3g-data will be fixed, surely i'll try this, even if i like touchwiz, i think that the sgs will be smoother without it....
hoping also in a AOSP FROYO ROM
report after ~17h use:
* gps doesn't work
* wlan works well and fast (i had 18-19mbit before with speedtest.net, same as my pc) but the driver seems to have some stability problems when it's idle for some time...
* short radio problem before, restart fixed it so radio probably is a little instable in the long run as well
quadrant scores of ~950 but linpack of only ~6.5MFLOPS? strange! everything is running very very fast and responsive (only fix aplied is: moved /data/data on /dbdata/data) and it boots faster. both definitely better than stock!
i am wondering why almost nobody seems to be interested in this. i had the feeling that more people wanted an aosp rom since we had a thread about that almost ever 2-3 days ...
I tried this asop for few hours: slower than best sgs rom's , no data connection, wifi slow, some app errors. Still not good enough for daily use but a very promising start.
Sounds really great, but I'm on JP3 right now and it seems to have less bugs than this :-/
This is only an alpha. I'll be more inclined to test when its in beta, as will many others I think. Especially as there are some troubles with core drivers.
Does this already run on a different file system (instead of RFS)? If not, will it be possible in the future to do so?

no, it does not repartition anything.
yes, if you repartition the nand and have a kernel with e.g. yaffs2 support.
should both be possible atm with some effort...
i'm really interested, although Wiz notification bar is handy (but i could manage with standard power control widget)...i'm not able to program or do other too technical stuff, but i'd be happy to check for bugs (when it'll become a little more usable,i'm on h3g and i absolutely need 3g )
yeah, they are working on it and will soon release the source on github. i use it for almost 2 days now and except the missing data it's working fine for me. really fast and sleek. i guess that we will soon have a beta version with most of the stuff working....i think it's just amazing that this rom is only about half the size of the samsung firmware even with gapps!
although i like stock android more 2 things i already miss are the notification bar and the movie player which can play so many more formats than the stock one, but thats a small price to pay.
Can't the .apk's be ripped and installed anyway? I'm looking forward to try this when data is working!
Is this 2.1 or 2.2?

it's 2.1
hm. the apps could probably be ported but it would be more complicated than installing the apk. they rely on libraries, the custom ui stuff and probably other apps like content providers etc. the only thing i REALLY want is the movie player! it's just very comfortable to just copy some movies/series onto the device before a train ride without the need to transcode

Interested, yea. As in "interesting to follow and see if it becomes functional." At the moment it's an alpha with no 3g data, wifi issues, bluetooth issues, no camera, and no GPS.
What more do you expect with it in its current state? Sheesh.

Hmm it was strange that you speak in riddles like this not like you
Can`t find here, only the ROM from "elelinux" but don`t know
the difference!
Would be nice any Devs can fix the bugs and build a stable ROM
from sources!
Because my Desire Z running CM 7.0 RC0 Gingerbread Android 2.3.1
it`s very nice many features, most features working,
and almost without bugs!
Always following this, but maybe will not help for Hero:

On Cronos Gingerbread I have ~60FPS in Neocore. But many grafics are invisible... And Angry Birds still lagging.
The lag on angry birds on hero is down to the advertising plain and simple. I've installed adfree from market and it runs alot faster, in fact on cronos it runs smother than I've ever seen tbh.
However to be fair I haven't yet compared to cm7 as yet, once have given both a fair run of a couple of days, I'll report back.

On my hero this CM is not working... Black screen after boot...

No it really isnt... lol
As i have said on another thread...
Yes the add's make a bit of diff, but they are still fairly unplayable without the add's.
its the fact the game isnt actually made well for our none GPU'd phones.
They are working on a version specifically aimed at out phones, so will have to just be patient.

it's actually mostly due to the huge amount of large graphics being thrown around on the screen in multiple layers. advertising blocking gives a very small improvement on my phone, but the 1.4.2 version of the game with it's working graphics is just unplayable. get version 1.3.5 (search for apk around the web) if you watn to play it on the hero - but the reason THAT version runs half decently is because it's missing a ton of background graphics so the game engine has a much easier time.
and hello again to the optimist who believes they're still working on the hero version of the game . Do you know how long they've been saying that? I think they intended to do it until they actually got into it and realized how tough the job would be for them and have silently given up. I really hope I'm wrong though... I love the game
This is a little offtopic, but a response to previous poster: I just found a demo of Angry Birds LITE on marked - can't remember seing it before so it fuels my hope that active developement on it is en route =)

does it work? and if so is it any better?
Hmm, I'm a little at loss here. I found the app in the gingerbread market, but seems it crashes (both lite and full version). Reverting back to a Froyo ROM the AB Lite cannot be seen. So sorry @ dkelley. Can't test it atm

wow, frustrating! I suppose if someone can get it and install it in GB and then backup the apk onto their sd card, they ought to be able to install the apk on froyo and see if it runs that way. and I suppose that since I suggested it, I should be the one to try and back it up from gb...
damn me and my big mouth LoL
Can some one tell me witch off line navigation can i use for the gingerbread ROM (TESTED NAVIGATIONS) sygic mobile maps does not work on gignerbread. (Google maps is on line navigation i dont want that)
Cheers

From a thread over at Chronos it seems that what i saw was actually the beta that existed before the full version. I will check this out, but seems it was a false alarm. Have no idea why that old crap would suddenly be visible again

that was prob me at cronos telling you that - if so then never mind, I already added to that post correcting myself that 1.3.5 beta 2 may well be the current "lite" version... we won't know though unless we can get it to actually run.
Tried both elelinux and this CM rom. Elelinux rom was way faster. Also CM claims wifi works, but i cannot get it to really connect to the router, scans and finds networks but cannot connect. Same as elelinux rom.

yup, and long since then elelinux has been codeveloping (maybe a generous term but certainly he's helping immensely) cronos gingerbread with feeyo over at the cronos site. and that one has gps working (but with very weak signal), usb working, wifi working, bluetooth working (including bluetooth audio).
