Volume Button broke on 3 week old tilt2!? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

So i go my device about 3 weeks ago. last night i noticed the volume down button wasn't working, so i took off the battery cover and this is what i've found.
Theres a plastic piece that goes over the button and looks like the one for volume down as slid into the device, the volume up & PTT button's plastic cover looks to be going loose as well.. :/
I know i can take it into the device support center but they'll probably give me a refurbished device which i dont want. I payed for a new device, its fairly new and i should get a new device!
Anyone else experienced this?

ouch. it looks like your other buttons are a little broken too. how hard are you pressing those? ive had my tilt 2 for a month and a half and the buttons are still perfectly aligned and feel brand new.

Looking at my case and the vol/ptt buttons inside it doesn't even look like it'd be possible to push hard enough on the outside to cause that. However all three buttons do have the same internal plastic piece which is probably why the other buttons are going.
If you're under 30 days can't you return the device? I thought AT&T had a 30 day return period.

My volume buttons didn't break off like yours, but they did lose tactile feedback after a while. That is, when I press it, it doesn't click and bounce back as strong as before. They felt dull when I press them.
So what I did was put layers of scotch tape against the inside of the back cover where it would come in contact with the volume buttons. (Not sure if I explained it properly). Now my buttons work beautifully again.
If others are having this problem, please let me know. I can post some pics so that you can try.

I'm having that with mine right now actually, just started noticing it in the past week. I'll give your trick a shot, thanks!

so i got pretty drunk last night (almost like every night but thats a different story ) and i remember dropping my phone on the pavement. And just now i noticed the volume down button has fixed itself from the drop! haha
i tried manually moving the cover piece back over the button when it first broke and that didn't help. so i guess the solution is to drop your phone!

Desire HD Volume Button Broken

Not sure if this happened before I dropped it at Christmas or not... BUT...
My volume button is sticking out at the bottom. So the end that lowers the volume. It's all good up the top. Any ideas how I can, or where to get this, fixed. I'm in Sydney.
I opened the battery compartment to have a look, but there is a void sticker over one of the screws. So don't wanna go there unless its a guarantee fix.

i think you're totally missing the point. lol
anyway, can't you just push it in? give it a lil force until it snaps back into place. let me know what happens.
just noticed that I can increase volume on my DHD, but can't lower the volume. restarted it, thinking that it might be a sw bug, but it still doesn't work.
is this the issue you guys are experiencing?
hope it's easy to solve, since I'm in Brazil and bought the phone in Germany.
best regards

André, i really don't think so...
I'm getting same trouble, the button works fine, but the down side (to decrease volume) is a little out, if compared with up side that stays closer to the frame, looks like a "seesaw"... i believe you got a hardware issue...

I have same design issue. Upper part of button (volume up) is more inside the phone and volume down part sticks a bit out.
Still buttons work as they should.

I don't exactly have same issue but close.
My volume rockers work, it's just they both are sunken to bottom and haven't that normal touch i've seen on other DHDs
Kindda nasty. Has anybody went to HTC to fix that? I'd love to know before sending... or not
yeah it seemed so for mine too.. but then i dotn have much problem with mine ..
Had a similar problem for me within first 14 days of my contract, just sent it back and got a replacement under warranty with orange. Maybe HTC or your carrier can do the same thing.

Thanks a lot, this is what I was looking for. I may send it sometime during exams (where I'll miss it less )
Got kind of the same problem, my volume down button is not nearly as responsive as my volume up button.
Got the same problem, my volume down button is not nearly as responsive as my volume up button.
OMG the bottom voice button is so weak..I am afraid of mine now...
my volume button popped out, doesn't sit flush and keep catching.
Added some glue to keep it held down, need to fit a replacement! Anyone know how to?
+1
I have same issue with volume key, seems quite a common problem, surely covered by factory warranty?
Fixed my volume button
I had the exact same problem with my volume rocker, the bottom part was sticking out but the top seemed all right.
I've just fixed it with a bit of glue and by only removing the battery lid.
For what it's worth, here's how I did it.
If you remove the battery lid you can gently pry out the loose end of the volume rocker, just a little so you can see what's supposed to hold it back.
There's a piece of plastic glued to the bottom of the volume rocker that's come partly undone.
I just put a toothpick between the case and the volume button, so it's sticking out.
Then I used another toothpick to get some superglue on the loose piece of plastic.
After that I removed the first toothpick and pressed down on the volume button for a bit.
Now it's all tight and snug like it used to be.
Be careful with the glue so you don't glue the rocker to the case or something.
Hey thanks if my breaks its gonna be useful!
Had this problem, bottom volume became almost completely unresponsive and has really been bugging me for a few months now, so today I took the whole aluminium volume rocker off, slightly different experience to the post above.
Basically it's constructed pretty poorly, the aluminium rocker forms a latch at the top which holds onto the body of the device above where the button is seated.
The bottom of the rocker then has a plastic flap which is glued into a hole to hold the rocker on, this flap had more or less come off for me, seems very poorly manufactured, so I pulled up more and the whole button came off.
The actual volume buttons themselves are very small and these are seated in the housing of the device between this latch at the top and the plastic flap at the bottom. The rocker has two pieces which push down on the buttons to operate them.
Some dirt and grime had built up in there so I scraped that all off first with the head of a Phillips size 00 screwdriver.
I put a very small balled piece of paper on top of the volume down button and it's now working fine again, I just need to glue that flap back down so the rocker doesn't come loose. If the piece of paper is too big the volume rocker won't go down at all so you have to get the size right, relieved to have a working volume button again though.
search the forum, someone wrote how he fixed his button using a bit of superglue. it works like a charm. basically the volume rocker is held onto the phone with a rubber base. with time the rocker comes unglued from the rubber base. if you use something thin, like a toothpick or a small cutting knife you can insert a very small amount of glue between the 2 and glue them back together. just don't overdo it with the glue or you'll end up gluing the rocker to the body! i did it on mine and now it's as good as new

HELP PLEASE...power button has stopped working!!

today i applied an XO skin and i applied the wet applicator only once and squeegeed the water out just like the instructions says and now for some reason, my power button has stopped working and sometimes it does work but it acts as if im holding down the power button and my power menu options pop up..... i bought this device unlocked from Expansys_USA and their customer service is done for the weekend....should i try putting it in rice?? im freaking out right now....this is not cheap, and i am seriously gonna be pissed if it was cuz of the XO....HELP.... :'(
How soon after applying the skin did you put your battery back in the device and try to turn it on?
Usually, you have to wait at least 24hours after applying a wet skin to have enough time for it to dry safely.

This happened with my Captivate some time ago. I think it might have been from dropping it. The SAME EXACT thing happens when trying use the power button on the captivate. Sometimes it work fine for a few pushes, other times it will act like I held it down on a push, and sometimes when just holding it, it pops the power menu up. I think the contact inside the switch is busted and floating around. When it touches, it activates. Therefor, it can be activated by shaking the phone. I can replicate it on my Captivate.
Those buttons are pretty much tiny little switches on the PCB. They probably got water in them if they work sometimes, and then don't work - and sometimes seem stuck on.
You'd need to clean the switch with some contact cleaner of some kind... but you'd need to take apart your phone most likely. You don't really want to get that all in your phone, or on the screen. It might ruin the coating on the screen, or damage other stuff depending on what type of cleaner you used.

it is easy to fix once you disassemble the housing you just pry open the power button and clean the contacts

you remove the black tape around the power button so you can see the contacts just clean them and you are good
bear in mind that you don't have to disassemble the boards like the video , just the housing
Thanks guys! I left it in rice overnight and now everything seems to be working perfect! Oh man....I was so scared! I bought this mofo unlocked! Its funny how when u actually try to protect it, it just ends up getting worse! I'm done with wet applies, I'm keeping it naked! Lol
Edit: its still doing the same thing again...spoke too soon......well kinda....its not doing it nearly as much

[Q] Anyone ever deal with stuck/stiff volume keys?

I got a good deal on a Captivate Glide on eBay - good overall condition, worked fine, but no battery, small crack in the battery door, and stiff volume keys. The volume keys don't have any give to them, really, like they're jammed into place. If I hold and press hard on one end the volume will start going up or down as it should, but I can't seem to boot into download mode like this, meaning I can't install CWM, root, flash kernels/roms, etc. Anyone have any ideas?

I dropped my phone and my volume key got stuck in the down position ..luckily it popped back into position when i fiddled with it and it worked again..
if you have a very tiny flathead screwdriver (very very very tiny) try and pry the volume rocker to the sides a bit and see if it lets go.
if not, ya take the phone apart ... either way, it's good practice to get several rubberized hard cases for your glide.
Why several? these things are so cheap because its a slider that I've found they break when I drop my phone at times. they're 3-4 dollars on ebay and you can get bundles with accessories screen covers etc. I always have a backup case for when I drop it.
Welcome to glide and g'luck!

Back button sensitivity issue.

Is anyone having this issue. I am having it where I find myself pressing the back button more than once. I thought I was not touching the button correctly. Until I saw this thread I was not the only one. By the way I am using a spigen glass protector but the multitasking button works just fine.

I signed up for this forum so I could tell you all the reason to this issue!
So like you all, I thought I was going crazy about the back button not working right! I kept trying different ways of pressing it and sometimes it would work and other times it didn't, and it seemed to be getting worse. However, the pen was perfect! So on the same day as I received it from Verizon, and after an hour on the phone with tech support with all the factory resets and other tests, I went to the Verizon store for a replacement. I was lucky that they had one in stock! They did all their tests, too, and the guy was trying to tell me I had to press harder and that it worked. I told him I shouldn't have to press harder and that I wanted a new one. So after he handed me the new phone, I instantly felt that the bottom of the phone seemed flatter and the buttons worked much better! I asked for my old phone back and voila, I found the problem! The bottom of the screen below the back button is not sitting level with the metal trim like the new one, nor like the rest of the phone! That is why you have to press so hard. It isn't close enough to the sensitivity chip for your finger to register, but the pen was ok due to how that works.
So, take it back as it is a hardware issue!!!! And, taking it back doesn't count towards your exchange for any provider or Best Buy. It is defective! I would also do this as soon as you can, because as you know, they will exchange it with a refurbished one. I got a new one, because they didn't have any refurbished ones yet as I took it back the same day!
I went and replace mine lay week. So happy I did.

Does anyone else have a very loud home button?

Depending on where I press mine, it will either sound llike a very well made solid well built phone vs a cheap plastic throw away... Experimenting now it seems like if I hit it close to the top of the button vs the middle/center or bottom it will make the cheap plastic sound

Samsung should have used a glass home button like on the iPhone and the OnePlus3.

My home button is slightly loud, sounds like any solid button though. From the bottom the sound is minimized. Could be the way it was constructed because of the water and dust resistance. I havent had a physical home button in a while though. Had the note 2 and then upgrade to note 4 but swapped that for the nexus 6 when I couldnt root and my phone would get very hot doing basic things.
I stopped buying Samsung because the home buttons would always fail and register double presses (launching into S Voice) after about a year of use. The OP post along with the scratches reported elsewhere makes me consider just getting a cheap One Plus Three...
I would love if Note 7 had:
1. ceramic or glass home button
2. Metal S Pen, not plastic

The home button and Spen on my very well used Note 2 and 4 are still perfect.
Had my note 3 for 2yrs and same.
As is my S3 minus the Spen
Pen is in there good. Takes a bit of force to pull out and the home button has a distinct click to it.
Sometimes I hear an audible click when using the home button. I thought it was just me, or tight mechanics... I kinda like it. I like mechanical keyboards, too...

Mine has sometimes loud sound and also sometimes when i press and swipe from left to right the home button sticks and stays pressed until i click it again, otherwise it is working fine.
i am thinking of taking it to the store and see what they say.
Mine does that also. If I press it offcenter to the left, it sometimes either sticks down, or emits a loud click when popping back up.
It doesn't bother me though. It happens very rarely, and the rest of the phone is perfect, so I don't want to have it replaced with one that isn't.
My buddies was sticking on almost every other click.. He returned it.. His was a black variant from china.
His new one is silver and flawless, same with mine.

Home Button Issue
I got my replacement note 7 yesterday. The home button does not click properly. I don't think I'm being anal about it but I took it back to T-mobile and everyone working there looked at me like I was crazy. The home button clicks perfectly on the right side but is stiff on the left side. Not a big deal because the button still functions, it just feels weird. If my thumb is more to the left of the home button, I dont get the feeling of the button being pressed. All I'm saying is that if I'm paying 950 with my hard earned money I expect it to function 100% out of the box. Anyone else have a similar issue. The T-mobile people told me to go to the Samsung store, aka they don't wanna deal with me. I'm annoyed with my experience and considering just dropping Samsung and T-mobile all together.
...
I havent had mine get stuck fortunately. There is definitely an issue with the Home buttons, I agree. No one at T-mobile wants to admit it. I don't like being considered crazy, and I'm pissed.
lorenzobjuarez said:
I literally just bought a black one from a T-Mobile store about an hour ago. On mine pressing on the left side of the home button actually feels proper, it is the RIGHT side that feels cheap and makes a loud noise when clicking it.
Even more bothersome it's the fact that if you press and hold on the home button and slide from LEFT to RIGHT the button will actually get stuck underneath the right side until I wiggle it & then it will "pop" out making a loud click!!!
Can you confirm if yours does this & gets stuck too?
There is definitely something wrong with these home buttons, I'm with you it's totally pissing me off that I paid almost $1,000 for a phone with a CHEAP plastic home button that isn't even done right. At least when Apple uses a home button they make sure it's a glass and actually works well!

I just feel that I should stand my ground, bc I'm def not gonna say that there is no issue with the home button bc I know there is. 3 of my coworkers have confirmed that they notice the issue too. Also there is no way in hell I'm paying a $50 restocking fee when the unit is received is defective. Not to sound rude but you must be rich if you are willing to pay a restocking fee twice. I'm a New Yorker so I will fight tooth and nail to win my case! If enough phones have a similar issue Samsung may have to do another recall, lol.
lorenzobjuarez said:
I feel your pain man I'm equally as aggravated right now...
Here's what you should do though, if you are still within your 14-day return window just take it back to the store (with yout receipt & box) and tell them flat out that you want to return it because you just "didn't like it".
I previously returned my last Note 7, 4 days before the recalland I honestly didn't like it, so that's what I told them and they gave me a full refund with no problems. I think the issue here is that whenever you tell them there is something wrong with the phone, they always want you to go through warranty because technically "there is something wrong with it".
Since you already paid them a visit once, if anybody recognizes you & brings up your last complaint just tell them that you were comparing it to your last phone and now that you've gone used to the home button for these last couple of days there's nothing wrong with it... It was just you!
It's ridiculous that you will have to admit that you are crazy and that there is nothing wrong with the phone just so you can return it, but in the end you will win. Again, don't bring up any complaints just tell them that you did not like it and the phone works perfectly fine, they will charge you a $50 restocking fee that I will GLADLY pay again to return this trash Phone!!! They will proceed to give you a refund and just wait a couple of more days or weeks possibly even months until they get more inventory & you can buy it again and HOPE that this one is not defective.
I'm just going to play with mine for today and that is exactly what I'm going to go do tomorrow morning, I won't even bring up the home button issue.

Picked up my replacement today and I get a faint click when I press slightly on the left side of my home button like it's sticking. I could tell it felt different from my previous note 7 as soon as I pressed it. Has very slight loose movement when you push the left side up and down. It's pretty annoying.
Thank you, I mean you gave me a good alternative options...truth be told your plan is actually starting to sound pretty good just about now, lol. I realized what a hassale it would be to fight for a replacement.
lorenzobjuarez said:
No I'm not "rich" lol!
I'll just rather pay up the money needed to move on with my life and avoid the stress and headaches of having to relay this to the incompetent people at the store. Let's face it, most of us here at XDA would have their jobs by tomorrow!
I get where you're coming from in regards to standing your ground, the problem is they're not going to want to play ball with you... as you have already seen. At this point I'm not about to stay with a messed up home button phone annoying me each and every time that I press it, I don't even want to look at the darn thing!
This is an issue that not a lot of people are going to notice and it's not nearly as drastic as an exploding battery so I highly doubt this will force Samsung to do another recall; especially considering how much money they've lost already.
Either way, it was just a suggestion and I was just trying to help...
