[APP] Cherry-SMS Client - Windows Mobile Software Development

Hi
I've coded a small application to send SMS over Cherry-SMS (a Internet SMS-Provider).
I don't know if anyone needs something like that, but well here it is.
If wanted I add more service providers to it. But I rather want to add it's functionality to Slide2SMS (with more service providers).
Features:
choose the Contact from the phone's contactlist
check the credits of your account
sent messages will be saved to the SMS Sent Box (Pocket Outlook)
If you like what you see:

is it possible to use this app with other sip providers? i want to use my betamax (voipbuster.com) account to easily send sms with my wm6 phone...
would be very nice!
greets

wow somebody who is actually interested in something like that...
well in the current state it's not possible to do so, but when I have time again I'll look at it. (needs some rewriting)
Is there any voipbuster account which has a specific amount of free sms to test my program with?

thanks for your answer, but i've found an app that fits my needs. (VoipSMS 3)

hi, i wanted to say thanks for your app. Its a great app

wonderfull ;-)
Thank you very much!
Exactly that what i have searched for!
The Tread and the app seems to be quiet old... but it works wonderfull on my HD2 ;-)

MSN on Artemis?

As of today i'm the proud owner of an Artemis to...
Coming from an MDA 3 this thing is a huge leap forward
The only thing that kinda bugs me is that i havent been able to find any MSN like apps on it.
It seems that Pocket MSN only goes as far as Winmobile 2003, perhaps any of you have a solution here?
Mine has Pocket MSN on it. Original ROM with no mods to it bought from Expansys. Not sure why your's wouldn't. In a pinch, you could use: http://mobile.msn.com to use the web version of it. Gives you everything except MSN Messenger but you can search the forums here for the Live Messenger Beta.

Contacts to Address Book
hey guyz,
has anyone tried that file i post the other day.
i installed it and used it for a good 1hr. the only thing i was not happy with was the first time you use it, it asks do u want to add contacts to device address book. the only options you have is OK for yes and Cancel. Do cancel and you cant login. So its forcing you add the contacts, which i dont really want. I was wondering if anyone knows how to get around this??

Hi cheers for the app.

ok i thought would be smart and delete the contacts from the device...hmmm not the best idea. Seems that it deleted the contacts within msn messenger as well.
anyone know i dont know how to get them back. without typing each one of my 200 contacts
why do microsoft have to make things so difficult
UPDATE 15/12/06 22:00
hi guys just to update you on this issue with the contacts. got my normal msn contacts back, thank god i do backups.
i have synced my MDA with my Apple mac and its built-in address book. Something i noticed on the MDA contacts was that there was one contact whose number, email/msn, address i had. and in his details it had his msn email under a field called IM (instant messeging). So i went back to my Mac Address book to see if it had similer field... and yep it did. So i spent a good 1hr changing all my 200 contacts email field into IM field...
Re-Synced the MDA and computer.... *wants to rip hair out*.... thats right no luck. Now my mda address book doesnt reconise the IM field from the Mac Address book...so the mda has no EMAILS at all now.
Hi all.
My Orbit has MSN installed, but instead I use the free Agile Messenger. Here's from the developers:
"Agile Messenger is the most feature rich and versatile Instant Messenger for mobile phones on the market today. Agile Messenger is used daily by over 2,000,000 users and has been perfected based on feature requests and feedback from tens of thousands of users. No other mobile Instant Messenger is as mature and reliable as Agile Messenger. "
You can get it here: http://www.getjar.com/products/5317/AgileMessenger
only about 500k file. Oh yeah, did I mention it's free?
Damn, I had to edit this post...this WAS free, I can see now that there's only a free trial. Well as they grow, the greed grows with them I guess... Even when I installed the previous FREE version after starting the program they FORCED me to upgrade, and then the upgraded app informed me that it will expire in 7 days unless...well you know.
ok, so just to do a quick recap.
I installed the above posted file, all went well, my contacts were imported and are now in my device address book and they are still on my msn on my PC.
What should I not do (or do) to not lose all my contacts?
oh and can the good gentleman that helped me before please tell me how to make a back up of my MSN contacts. CHeers

hi will,
congrats installing it.
this is the problem everyone is facing with live messenger. theres a thread about this problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=282540
one thing you DEF DONT!!! want to do (speaking from experiance lol) is delete the contacts from your device - Do that and contacts from your contacts PC msn messenger will happly be removed also.
if you want to back-up your PC msn that should be very easy. My experinace is based on msn on Apple Mac. Shouldnt be too different on Windows. YOu simply go to File > Save Contact List ... And choose a location to want.
Hope that helps.

hi rawedge,
the 2 ways i know of syncing is two apps
1) great app called Missing Sync can be found at here and is great syncs iCal, Address, Time, Photos, iTunes, etc see website for more details. Its one of the best app i have used for syncing.
2) the other one is called PocketMac i think this app doesnt have support for WM5 yet but should do soon.
http://www.pocketmac.net/
this is what there website says about WM5
"Windows Mobile 5:
We are currently testing cumulative updates for all of our Windows Mobile products (PocketMac Pro, PocketMac Lite and PocketMac Phone). We expect to have updates out shortly and will email all of our customers the moment they're available."
You can download both apps for a triel period, after which you have to pay for it. Altho i think Missing Sync is worth the money.
As far as i know of iSync doesnt sync with Windows Mobile platform. But i think missing sync uses some of the technology behind iSync for sync information.
Hoep this helps. Anything else just holla
thanks
I've just looked at missing sync however the artemis/02xda orbit isn't listed in their supported phones. has anyone got it to succesfully work? Don't want to fork out ££ if it's not going to work

WM6 - multiple mobile numbers for single contacts

I have some contacts which have multiple mobile numbers. as it stands now, i can only have one dedicated mobile number in the contact details. i would like to have as many as i want, so i can easily sms the additional numbers at any time i choose.
there are some useless (for me) types in there such as: pager, car tel, radio tel. there is everything BUT no Mobile Tel.
i want a Mobile Tel 2 and 3.
is this possible to modify?
i am using WM6 Black 2.0
no its not possible. take it or leave it.
no version to date can do it.
i'll take it thanks!
Inesoft Address Book
There's a pretty good program by Inesoft called Address Book. I've been using it for about a month (with WM6) and it works great. It will allow you to create custom fields in which to enter new names to store numbers under. So you should be able to create Mobile 1 and Mobile 2. It's not a free program though but they do offer a free trial. You can test it out and see what you think. Here's the link.

Will it sync wirelessly/OTA like the built in contacts app?
Jim
I've only tried it through activsync with bluetooth and USB and its worked well. From the looks of it, it seems like it will do everything that contacts did before.
not ideal but I just store there other numbers in any of the random fields left over. then to text them instead of just typing there name in the to section click to the left of it on he "To" and chose the contact from there, it'll let you pick any number

From that it sound's like it fully replaces contacts? Is that how it works because that would be good.. or if it extended the built in application that would be perfect...
I may have mis-understood though.. i guess what im asking is do you have to run a seperate contacts application or is it integrated into the messaging app etc to fully replace the built in contacts system?
Thanks,
Sam

It fully replaces your contacts. It won't delete it from your device though. You can still uninstall and get your original contacts back. But through my use everything that I now do will go through address book. Even the softkey goes to the new application.

Form size

Hi, i have a simple chat style sms application i am using on my T-Mobile SDA and i would like to port it to T-Mobile DASH. What should be the Form size so that it would fit the DASH screen?
The screen on a Dash is 320x240 pixels large, and after the browser steals viewing space the user gets about 300x220ish or so in usable space. If you need to do specific testing simply PM me and I would be more than willing to help out and give screen shots on how things look. If you wish to work independently you might want to look into the Microsoft emulators which have been made by Microsoft so people can emulate smart phone devices for testing programs and sites for this exact purpose.
thanks for the quick reply I will try to create blank form and PM you ASAP. I have just bought my excalibur online and havent received it yet so i cant test it on an actual unit.
Is this app a 'replacement' for the messaging account in outlook? Or will the messages continue to go to the existing inbox. Also, is MMS supported? I have waited so long for an app as good as the Palm Messaging beta, created specifically for a smartphone.
Orientation Aware Control
Hey oldsap,
I'm a mobile developer by trade and if you're looking for a flexible way to handle resolutions etc to make you're app a little more portable, take a look at the Orientation Aware Control that microsoft's patterns and practices group created:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa480471.aspx
It can be downloaded from codeplex. Basically, you create a single form and it uses a resource file to store settings for various resolutions (control layout etc). No more need to make multiple copies of a form for each resolution you want to support. Good luck, hope that helps!

for the time being, ive created this to intercept all incoming sms so that they wont go to the inbox. But i can re-code it so that when a new sms arrives:
1. sms wont go to the existing inbox
2. sms will go to both the application AND inbox
it's not a perfect chat style application but it works well for me.
im still waiting for my DASH to arrive (ordered it from ebay) When i have ported it to DASH, ill post it here

Thanks for the tip sir. I'll read about this. Im just a newbie programmer and can only create very very simple applications
I would have to say that a threaded SMS app is not simple!

i refer to my application as "simple" compared to PALM's threaded sms because it only uses Textbox instead of XML. It doesnt use colored fonts to distinguish sent and received sms. But it does have other features like save chat window, group sending, sms sent counter, sms filtering, etc

[REQ] remotely access contacts

im the kind of person that would be comepletly lost if i ever misplaced my x1, i dont know any1's # and i would lose all my appointments. in addition, i cannot have my phone on me during work hours.
is it possible to have an app that allows you to send it a sms (from a different phone) with the contact's name (maybe your password) and have it reply with the contact information of the person?
thanx for your time

Nice, another chance to hand over personal info to Microsucks....
If you're not comfortable with microsoft holding your personal data, try Dashwire instead.
It's free and very good
Download and install the Dashwire panel from the SE panel page, create a dashwire account at www.dashwire.com and you're all set
Cheers
Angus
ok thanks, yea ive got dashwire (well not since i upgraded to touch-it 5 ).
i was just wondering if there was a different way. thanx!

Collecting calls & sms in the calendar?

Hi everyone...
I am using at the moment a small program that copies all incoming sms in my calendar - it's just practical. The program is unfortunately not openly available. (and it does have a problem with the time zones)
But now after all the weekly flashing of new cooked roms, the call history always gets wiped. Does anyone know a resident software that collects both calls and sms (both in&out) in the calendar as events?
abe
Someone like this ?
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-call-calendar.html
hmm, the download link doesn't work for me...
maybe any other ideas?
mfg
Well I'll give it a try this evening or tomorrow morning after I've flashed miri's newest
Anyway, seems that here would be some homesteading possibilities for someone to write an app to do both sms and call collecting. Of course with almost umlimited configuration possibilities
I would certainly want to work as a beta tester and feature designer for such an app.
After all, I'd say there are a lot of people who do not have office communicator for their private needs...
abe
http://www.4shared.com/get/61611304/674c57ce/CallCalendarInstaller.html
Is this the one we are talking about ?
A bit more description than just a downlink to a random program would be nice. Installing the .cab does not seem to do anything. Nothing in the start menu, nothing visible in the calendar after making a call...

Ive been using this chaps program - Very good!
