Need a Telus LG IQ Unlock Solution - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hey guys, I have a Telus LG IQ (GW825) which is the same as the LG Monaco, I'm looking to get it unlocked and willing to donate $50 to anyone who can unlock it.
Thanks

Ditto. I can get codes, but cannot find instructions. So, we're half way there.

If you want to unlock it, either put in a non Telus sim or goto the dialpad and enter the following 2945#*825# and you should get the unlock screen.

That does not work (2945#*825#) for this model or the Chocolate BL40. Anyone know?
I've even tried 2945#*40# for the BL40. These Telus phones do not pull up a menu when this sequence is entered.
These work for all other networks like Rogers and ATT with no problems.

Did you use ORIGINAL SIM Card that the phone comes with?

Yes, we've tried, with, without and non-accepted sim.
Have you unlocked these before?
What method did you use for Telus LG IQ?

One of the members on lg-expo.com has an octopusbox and was able to unlock his with it ... little more than $50 though
cant post links apparently ;( ... visit lg-expo.com and see the sim programming set thread under tips-and-tricks

i have a telus lg iq and th eunlock screen comes up when i put in a rogers sim.

I just got my Telus IQ unlocked at Pacific Mall from one of the cell phone unlocking vendors.
I am using it with Rogers SIM card now.
If you are in GTA(Greater Toronto Area), I would suggest you check this vendor out.

[Q] Will this phone work on 3g in Europe & UK ?

I bought my SII a few days ago and am wondering if it will work in Europe.
Also, will t-mobile give me an unlock code? I've been with them for over a year.
I got an unlock code for mine and i have only been back with tmobile for 60 days. Just ask them in chat. It will work in Europe but I don't think it will be on hi speed network.
Sent from my HTC Flyer P512 using xda premium
How quick did you get the code? I just called in and made the request. She said up to 14 days.
I think Europe 3g band is 2100 which the t-mobs SII supports. But I don't know if that means it will work.
Yes it will work on 3G in Europe... I've taken TMO phones to Spain several times and was rocking 3G on Vodafone the entire time.
if it has the frequency it will work
Awesome, thanks guys.
Tmobile just sent me the unlock code. Is there any way to enter it without another sim card?
Could 1 of you guys request the Unlock code for my Galaxy S II? I don't have t-mobile, I brought the phone from a 3rd party phone shop. I have a receipt from the shop, but I'm assuming t-mobile wants a receipt that it was purchased from them. PM me if someone will help me pls.

It's not possible to do this for you, need TMo SIM, they check it.
You can pay one of those services a small amount of money for a code. It's fast and less hassle than trying to get TMo to give you one.

That's not what I meant. I'm asking how can I enter the unlock code? T-mobile said the only way is to put in a non-tmobile sim card and then it will prompt for it.

There is currently no 'free' way of sim unlocking your device if you hang around long enough someone may write a program to do it but you may be waiting a while. Quite a few members have stated the unlock code can be obtained over ebay within 2 hours for around £9 which is a good price. You could also contact your carrier and tell them you want to take your phone abroad and use a different sim card in it while you are away to save costs. Sometimes they will unlock it for free.

got mine unlocked from o2 for free, filled in a form on their site and they emailed me the unlock code
just bought a SIM unlock code from here for £5
instant delivery, works perfectly. awesome
a warning about sim unlock: I got my nexus today from vodafone spain and as expected it was locked. I got an unlock code from ebay and it worked like a charm.
But, I like to play with new phones first, then restore defaults and set everything up the way I want it. The thing is, the galaxy nexus doesn't remember the network unlock code between factory resets, at least mine doesn't (yakju, came with ITL41F).
The codes work, but you may need yours again, so don't throw the number away
any code for three? im waiting the three to give me the code, about 2 weeks now
Hello Mark, is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus an universal phone? Can I use the unlocked version with LTE carriers in the future? I am in US and Verizon is the only LTE carrier I was wondering about using T-Mobile (HSPS technology) or wait for Sprint (my current carrier). I live in USA but I am thinking about moving to Japan so I wonder if I should just wait and maybe I will need to get one in Japan with one of their carriers... Also I love the forums and it is all great, but is there an IRC room for this questions as well?
Thank you in advance,

The GSM version can be purchased unlocked and used on any GSM carrier with their supplied SIM card. The GSM frequencies are listed for the Galaxy Nexus and they cover the majority of GSM international and US domestic carriers.
The LTE version, as far as we've heard, is only for Verizon in the US. Not sure what LTE technologies other carriers in other countries are using.
If you're interested in having an international capable version of the deivce, the GSM version is currently your best option.
Hope that helps!
Hi,
I would also like to purchase such a code, but how ist it with OTA updates? Still avialable?
How would it be if I later root my phone and put on a custom rom? Will it be still unlocked.
or
cant I just put on a custom rom, to sim-unlock the phone and save those costs?
Sorry for the noob questions.
Thanks

Custom Roms cannot sim unlock your phone as it isnt part of the system.
Flashing an OTA update or a custom rom will not affect your phone if you have sim unlocked it with a code.
MArk.
Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I have contacted my carrier (A1 Austria) and complained about the simlock. To make a long story short, they finally gave me the simunlock pin.
But recently I unlocked the bootlader and the unlock was wiped so I needed to reenter the pin. After I reflashed the original rom (back to stock) the sim was locked again.
And the most strange thing happened today. I just restarted the phone today (as every day) and the sim was locked again. So reentered the pin to unlock.
My question now, can it be that the simumlock pin they have provided me is not correctly working or is this a normal behaviour or a bug?
Br, Avi

That appears to be normal behaviour.

GN SIM Network unlock PIN

Hi! I just got my GN and after I boot it asks to enter the SIM Network unlock PIN. This means that its network locked right ? In the box there where nothing related to any carrier so is there a way to find a way to which carrier it is locked to ? And how can I unlock it?
Thanks (Im running AOKP)

I got an app from market recently to unlock my SGS2, maybe try searching the market? That's a bit vague but the app I used on my SGS2 was perfect, generated a code for me and then unlocked the sime when I typed the code in.

That's what I used. I don't think the carrier matters, it's all about the phones IMEI number, the app checks that and then issues an unlock code based on that. You don't need to worry about carrier.
Let me know if that app works on the Nexus. By the way, in Ireland you can ring your carrier and request an unlock code. I don't know if that is the same where you are. You could chance your arm and see.

Mine asks for an unlock code if I don't use the sim that came with the phone or a sim that is from another carrier.
Do you have a source for where you read that they are sim unlocked ??? Would be interested in reading it.
this reads more like it's a Sim-pin... a pin number associated with the sim card you are using, NOT a pin associated with the phone.

NO! The code is related to the IMEI number of the phone. When I unlocked my SGS2 using that app, it specifically searched for my IMEI number and then generated the unlock code. Nothing to do with the sim.
Its a GSM phone and Im assuming that it is unlocked as it had no logos on the box so I have no idea what carrier it is locked to. Also, ever site that sells unlock codes request the carrier so what can I do ?

Well, you didn't buy a carrier branded one, did you?
I spoke too soon, it looks like Vodafone Portugal sells it Sim-locked, everywhere else it's unlocked. If you bought it unsubsidized, it should be unlocked. Unless you got scammed, and bought it second hand from someone that somehow had bought a locked one.
Where exactly did you purchase the phone?

If it is locked to T-mobile, you will be able to use other T-mobile GSM sims.
You can unlock it by either calling T-mobile (tell them you are leaving the country and need an unlock code), or get one online (which you will need to pay for: like $20 bucks I think). Once you get the unlock code you will be able to use other GSM sims.

Are you sure it's not unlocked? Mine is brand new out of the box and I just get no Service, and a little note saying invalid sim in the drop down menu.
Has anyone manage to have one of these unlocked outside of going by the book with sprint?
All the services i've asked either said they can't do it, or said they could at first, then just sent me a refund pretty much straight back.
I don't mind paying for the service but it seems nobody is there yet.
Anyone know anything I don't?

They said it was locked to Sprint but also said it would work in UK. I hope you get it sorted. I'm having the same problem with the V50. I'm guessing the o my solution is if someone request the unlocking code from the manufacturer. Which can take a week or so.

The problem for the unlock code with the sprint G8 (and I gather some of the other phones too) is that they don't request an unlock code with an alternate SIM. There's a bunch of other codes you can enter to get the unlock code thing to pop up..... doesn't work.
It looks like the solution for the same thing on the Sprint G7 is for them to remote in using teamviewer or anydesk and work their magic.
I guess I could see if I can get my hands on a properly smashed up, non screen functional, unlocked phone, and transplant the board. But not really something I want to do with a brand new phone.
Partially hobbled by the lack of popularity I guess, you can find someone to do pretty much anything done to a Samsung

Im really hoping these codes work for you (option 2 or 3). I didn't for me unfortunately.
Unlocking instruction for LG G8 ThinQ ?
How to enter an unlock code in a LG G8 ThinQ:
Second option (device doesn't ask for an unlock code with an unaccepted SIM)
1. Start the device with an accepted simcard (example LG G8 ThinQ was bought in Orange you need to insert an Orange card)
2. Go to the dial screen and press “2945#*model number#” (the same way you enter a phone number)
Example: the device is a P999 you need to enter “2945#*999#” or for KU990 you need to enter “2945#*990#” etc…
Third option (accepted simcard)
1. Go to dial screen and press 2945#*71001# or 2945#*20001# as if making a call
2. when a hidden window appears enter the unlock code
Thanks Agent.M
I appreciate you looking into it. I've tried all those codes on mine and they don't work.
From what I gather, Sprint has used some sort of different locking method that can't be undone by entering a code.
It looks like it was the same on the LG G7 and the solution involved cross flashing some software. The services offering to do it all remote in using team viewer or similar and do it for you.
There was a thread running on the G7 forum for it the sprint unlock, this G8 thread doesn't seem to have nearly as much activity on it. And doesn't look like LG is being helpful with unlocking the boot loader.
I'm a bit sad, I put a lot of thought into which phone to get. We've only got the G8s locally, and it's not quite the same phone.
I'm going to return it and I guess burn the $100 in postage, return postage, restock fees etc. I'm not really happy to sit on it for another 6 months until someone works out an unlock for it. With my luck, someone will probably crack it next week after I send it off.
Unlock codes don't work on this phone.
There's no way to enter it.
Also. Suspicious post is suspicious.
It kinda sucks that this phone still can't be unlocked from Sprint using a 3rd party option. Because of the lack of attention, I'm afraid that LG phones might be leaving the scene just like HTC.
I ended up returning my g8 and getting a v40 new unlocked locally.
It's freaking enormous but we only got the g8s here which isn't any smaller.
Hence chasing the g8. I wanted something a sensible size.
My sprint phone have a major issue, it was randomly rebooting several times per day. I got sick of it and did a full reset, it made things even worse, I somehow lost the sprint boot up logo and now it just endlessly reboots until I shut it down completely.
Is there anyway to do flash it back to the original stock firmware?
My Sprint G8 (sim unlocked) from america is working with my Irish sim on GSM/UMTS only.........so no mobile data. There doesn't seem to be an option to add an APN.
It cost me 400 dollars including shipping and duties.............kinda expensive for a pocket camera!!!
Love the phone and will go to any lenghts to get it sorted.....but it's not looking good.

I got my locked to Sprint. It works fine so far in the UK when I put my sim in it.

I'd love to hear details......did you buy the phone from US seller or did you bring it to the UK yourself, after using it on Sprint in the US?
Did your UK SIM register on your UK provider and have you got mobile data?
Could you post some screenshot from your "about phone" menu and also your APN setting from your Network menu?
I can't get my Sprint G8 working in Ireland on my data network (works on GSM, calls and texts only)

I'm having the exact same issue with my LG G8
- As We only have G8s in EU, I bought AT&T G8 from US eBay. Used it for a month without any issues and then suddenly MM#6 error.
- Went to AT&T "unlock phone" page and entered my IMEI. It said the phone is lost or stolen.
- Contacted the eBay seller, they told it should be unlocked and sent me an unlock code. I entered the unlock menu (2945#*820#) and all options gave the same result "Phone is not Personalized", which should mean that there is no lock on the unit and I did not have an option to even enter the unlock code. But there is still the MM#6 error.
So a bit clueless as to what to do now and based on this thread it seems like there is no solution to this. The phone seems to be locked by some other method.
I have never owned an LG phone before and just wanted to try it out. Guess it's an expensive lesson
edit: just after posting this, I got answer back from my carrier - the phone is blacklisted. So that's and anticlimactic end to the story
It's a pity......the handset is amazing.
There are a community of people trying to get this sorted.
The problem seems to be that your phone is trying to register on the ATT network and it can't........and there is no way to change the settings needed for it to register onto your network.
Can you post a screenshot of your APN screen in Network Settings.
