Tmobile 6.5 ROM - Browser Defaults - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

One niggle with this update (which I otherwise do like by the way) is that it comes with the browser set to default to Opera.
This was reasonable in older loads. It isn't any more - the new IE included is IMHO better than Opera.
I went into Internet Explorer and turned on the "default check", started it, and told it to make itself the default browser. That fixed links in text messages, in the Twitter application I use, and in emails.
BUT....
1. The ALT-BROWSER keyboard shortcut still starts Opera.
2. Manila/Sense still starts Opera as well.
The former is a real pain if you're in the browser, someone SMSs you, you read it, and then want to flip back to IE with a couple of keystrokes instead of fobbing the screen. The latter I care less about as I don't usually have that enabled anyway, but it would be nice to be able to fix it.
I looked around in the registry with Total Commander and have had no luck (thus far) finding where the keys are that control this. Does anyone know where the keys are in the registry to fix that?
Opera's "settings" menu DOES NOT have a "set as default" (or unset as default) option - a search here found that as a suggestion, but the claimed option does not exist in the version that is included in T-Mobile's ROM.
Oh, one other note - the icon packs that worked with 6.1 ROMs will not pick up the signal strength with 6.5. This is probably due to a difference in the radio...is there a fix for that one as well?
Thanks in advance.

IE: Check out Message 6 (has a link for an overview of the tweak) or Message 10 (has simplified, detailed steps to do this) of a thread on T-Mobile.
To load a different radio (like the one that initially came with the stock T-Mobile ROM: 3.45.25.14), you need HardSPL, which will void your warranty, but reinstalling stockSPL will "un-void" it.

That got the Manila entry but not the keyboard shortcut, which is the real bummer...

Oh right, I knew I forgot something!
You have the T-Mobile TP2, right? Here's how you do it:
GSM Rhodium Keyboard Controller will let you remapp the hardware keys.
Once installed, go to Start > Settings > System > Keyboard Config > Menu > Add key > [check Combine with FN key] Press the hardware Left Arrow button (that'll map the ALT+Left arrow button, which is the shortcut to the Internet) > Event: Click > Action: Run program > Program: iexplore.exe > OK > Update config.
It should now launch IE via ALT+Left arrow!

That did it - thanks!

(Happy) Easter Eggs in WM6

WM6 Easter Eggs - WM6 Features (search terms)
This is a list of new and little known features in WM6.
Please add any I miss to this thread and I will try to put them in this post (with credit of course)
1. Typing on the keyboard on the today screen will automatically bring up the phone with matching contacts. Certain phone skins do not support this and you will just get a text box with scroll bars covering half the screen but nothing in it. If this happens switch your phone app with the Tweak app (varies depending on who’s WM6 you are running)
2. From Messaging (Outlook, SMS, MMS, [POP/IMAP? not tested] ) if you start typing it will search through your messages for whatever you type. Hold “H” for a list of shortcuts. I think the shortcut keys mean hold that letter.
3. Under calendar; If you create a new appointment and decide you don’t want it, you can now pres menu and cancel (cancel was not in wm5)
4. When typing in WiFi keys (WPA, WEP, whatever) you can actually see what you are typing instead of just ******.
5. The new feature I found that I love is if you go into the options for the calendar you can now set it to start in Month view (or whatever view you prefer). I couldn't stand the fact that WM5 kept reverting back to agenda!
(Thanks chymmylt!)
6. The camera finally keeps adjustments like contrast and sharpness saved.
Previously if you soft reset or power off and on the phone, these settings would always revert back to the defaults.
(Thanks abubasim!)
7. In Contacts, when you edit a contact you now have 'File As' useful if you want Forename Surname instead of the default Surname, Forename
(Thanks nbedford! [I installed the "File As" plugin and never noticed that it the ability to change it was built in =)] )
8. In Outlook, if you [Reply All] by default it copies your own email address into the recipient list, so you receive your own mails, even if you auto-save them already in Sent Folder. I found that extremely annoying because with every [Reply All] I had to manually remove my email address before sending.
You can avoid this easily:
1. Programs -> ActiveSync
2. Menu -> Options
3. Select the E-mail information type and tap Settings
4. Tap Advanced
5. Enter the e-mail address you want to remove when replying to all senders in My e-mail addresses
(Thanks aublumberg, This applys to WM5 also but not to many people know this one.)
Let me know if this is a waste of space, and if not, lets keep this thread on topic and point out all the fun reasons to use WM6.
Later, Lew
thanks. couple those i didnt know about.
not quite "easter eggs" though are they
thanks for sharing this information
i found the firts two points very usefull, and (correct me if i'am wrong) due to the lack of a propper wm6 manual i think this thread comes quite handy

Bump for added Features.
Not new, but little known and well hidden:
- press and hold the action button
- tap and hold the clock in the title bar until the dots stop moving
- when you release both the stylus and the action button, you get a small menu with an "execute" (or "run") entry. Tap that to get sort of a command line prompt.
Cheers
Daniel

WIKI Pls
In the interest of WIKI and promoting the use of knowledge being written once and used many times, there is already a knowledgebase for this with lots of stuff, if you can add yours and close this, everybody will know where to go for their easter eggs...

Tap and hold the clock on the title bar lets you switch between digital and analog disply - no idea that happened until now!
I guess, you already know this...
Pressing the "power button" for 3 seconds turns off (not just standby) the device (with WM2003 it wasn't possible...)
This is probably an old one but I didn't know it myself until Googling for it:
In Solitaire, open the on-screen keyboard, tap Ctl and Shift and then Deal. It gives you the perfect hand.

Simply way to disable SMS threading on WM6.1 Vanilla

add
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\OEM\SMSInboxThreadingDisabled
binary
value set to 1.
restart, and it works!!!
this key disabled the sms threading, without disabling the sound and other notifications (as far as i know).
Edit: in the middle of the key, it should be "settings", somehow the forum forbids post this "Settings" key.
Thank you.
there is even no such key in vanilla 4.01
but i've made it - and it works.
thanks!

Just use schaps advanced configuration tool!
Other Option
HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings (The Space in "Settin gs" is somehow accidently added by the forum, don't make that )
and there should be a
DWORD named "SMSNoSentMsg" set to 1
change it to 0 and you should get your notfication. If this Key and DWORD does not exist, create it with the value 0. Should work then

Hi,
I had the same issue. Are you sure you are using "Settings" key and not "Setting s". I was using "Setting s" key and this was causing a problem for me.
Also if you are using the right key, make sure as soon as you change your registry, you open text messages. I did this and the change is instantaneous, not requiring restart.
Hope this helps.
THANKS A LOT! Works fine for me. ROM: Artemis Vanilla 4.01 WWE.
No problems with rebooting mentioned somewhere here - everything stays.
P.s.: somebody make this topic sticky perhaps?

I have made that registry change this way:
- using Total Commander as registry editor
- HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Setting already exists
- created OEM folder using Mkdir
- created key SMSInboxThreadingDisabled = 1 using +add value+
- then going to messaging --> text messages - everything OK, no threads
- soft reset
- added key has disappeared (folder OEM and added key are gone)
- sms threading is back switched on :-(
What am i doing wrong ?

I use Vanilla 4.01 and PHM editor. not sure if you have saved the change under Total Commander, or maybe you have some kind of software that prevents changing Registry keys.
martin.eu, please wait about 5-10 minutes after registry change and do reset after that time. Windows requires some time to write registry to the ram from the cache.
It seems that there is some problem with regedit plugin in total commander. Change made with PHM regedit and everything works fine ...

Cannot select multiple files in File Explorer

Just found another problem with my TP2. I want to move some files to another location but I cannot select multiple files in File Explorer by draging the stylus to highlight them.
Is this behaviour by design or is there a bug on my device?
Shd be by default. Pls correct me if I am wrong.
I use resco for multiple file selections.
Simple.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Gestures\Touch]
"Disabled"=dword:1
It works! Thx Monx!
No problem. If the avatar is you, what about gimme a simple kiss. if it not u, pls dont. i'm not gay. but ur avatar is really cute . sorry off topic. just cant resist
(you know i'm kidding)
I also was looking for this solution.
And indeed, it works.
But it introduces another problem: To switch between your mail account, you can swipe from left to right.
But after this patch, that doesn't work anymore
So I've put the old setting back.
@ronh
can u give more details about email switch by swipe mate?
in manila or messaging app? mine is just fine. maybe there is some tmob customization.

It's in the messaging app, not in manilla.
When you're in the messaging app, and you move your finger from left to right, it toggles between the configured mail accounts.
In mine TP2 for example: Outlook - Gmail - SMS (and then it starts over with Outlook.)
And although my provider is TMO, I have an unbranded Touch Pro2 WWE edition.
@ronh
Ok mate, got it, thanks (i always use navigation pad with raphael to do this)
Just for info, in wm6.5, we can swipe to switch between tab (iehone settings). So it cause a side effect in messaging.

Indeed, that's a problem.
The Xperia I had recognized if you are using the finger or the stylus. When using the finger the application scrolls and when using the stylus you can draw a frame to multiselect items.
Maybe that's possible with the TP2 too?

Maybe it is related to OS build features or AKU changes.
Surely by disabling that reg key you're pretty much switching touchflo off?
So scrolling of anything in any WM apps (contacts, text messages, emails, calendar entries) will no longer work without using the scroll bar?
I just checked stock shipped Raphael (SEA 20764) OEMDrivers rgu, the value is set to 1 by default. And yes, messaging still scrollable to switch email account
I can still left< >right scroll between email accounts after this tweak.

after this tweak can you make a zoom to photos with stylus or rotate photos...????
You mean in photo albums? I have never been able to do either, even before the tweak.
I can double tap the image to enlarge it, or use the slider at the bottom of the screen to zoom in.
In any case, the inability to group files together in File Explorer is more of an issue for me than being able to rotate a photo (can always turn the phone 90 degrees instead), and the registry tweak has fixed that.
Very strange, just tried it again: With the patch --> no swiping, undoing the patch --> swipings works.
Too bad, I'd loved to have the best of 2 worlds like Mesquire...
(I guess she looks the TP2 lovely in his display )
Hi all,
The easy way to select multiple files in Explorer is the Windows way of selecting multpile files. Just press CRTL on your keyboard (you have one ) en select the files you want... It's Windows isn't it?

so weird! My TP2 suddenly lost it even with this set to 1
already tried rebooting: still nada.
UPDATE:
on further investigation, I found I can select multiple files only in some folders, e.g., root directory of the storage card, My wallpapers, Templates, files and folders directly under My Device, Application Data, Program Files...
but not files directly under My Documents, whether under My Device or storage card
UPDATE #2
The only way to have the ability to select multiple files in any folder AND keep left< >right scroll to switch email accounts is to set the it to 1, but not reboot. If I reboot with it set to 1, it behaves like the above.
Right now I have decided to set to 1 only when I need to select multiple files with the stylus, and change it back to 0 thereafter, or before a reboot. What a pain!

TouchFLO 3D Can't change home softkey... bug?

Has anyone been successful with this? No amount of hacking is allowing me to change the soft key for the touchflo 3d home page section...
I have used Advance Config, TouchFlo Detacher and Registry editing:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila
HomeLSKText = Text on softkey
HomeLSKPath = Path to program to run (or blank for default)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila
HomeRSKText = Text on softkey
HomeRSKPath = Path to program to run (or blank for default)
My result:
The text changes but the button will not launch program.
Search for a way to have it work leads me to the same result. could it be the version of manila?
my touch pro 2 is sprint version. I read one other forum where a tmobile version could not get this working either with my same result.
any info would be helpful. thanks
I used only the Advance Config
it works fine with me
Since I just cleared my storage (cause I manage to **** up the touch flo and have two settings and no calendar tab), I will try advance config first without touching the registry.
Ok I just realized Advanced Config does not remap the softkey for the TouchFLO 3D shell. It remaps the regular today screen's softkey. Unless I'm doing something wrong, here's what I did.
1. open advance config
2. press menu (right soft key)
3. clicked "more settings"
4. clicked "key mapping"
5. key mapping configuration for path and text shows up, did the changes.
of course since this only remaps the regular screen's softkey, the change does not show on the touch flo 3d home page soft key (where camera is).
I had a similar issue trying to set up TFDetacher and my Sprint TP2. I ended up hard resetting because it was jacked up. I haven't had a chance to try to fix yet.
I had the same issue, but only with the left softkey. Till now I found no solution.

Problem is that (at least on my TMO unit, but I've seen others report the same thing)
HomeLSKText - Changes Text on the left softkey
HomeRSKText - Changes Text on the right softkey
HomeLSKPath - Doesn't appear to do anything!
HomeRSKPath - Changes application launched by LEFT softkey (note - that is NOT a typo!)
i.e - it's easy to change the left softkey on the Manilla home page, but so far I've not found out how to change the right softkey - though I've seen screen caps here that show it changed, so it is clearly possible.
-Steve
On the sprint version there is no fix as of yet you can change the name on the key, but the activation is still contacts, this is with reg edits and programs i have tried.
Keyswop - changes the phone or Lock softkey.... still trying to find something to change the Touchflo 3d Icons so I can attach different movie players and such to the interface though.

yes, that was my other ultimate goal was to make those other touchflo tabs into buttons rather then 'tabs', that opened programs. personally I don't want ANY tabs, and just keep the touchflo on the home page, but disabling the tabs also disable their overlay features (hence loading from quick programs doesn't load the touchflo version like calendars).
Think the answer for remapping the soft keys in Manila TF3d home are as follows (using windows calendar as an example):
Within the registry.
1) HKLM\software\HTC\Manila
Within that folder see if the following string exists and change the value - if it doesn't then create it:
Value Name "HomeLSKArguments "
Value Data "-manila off"
(without the quotes)
Then next string
Value Name "HomeLSKPath"
Value Data "\windows\calendar.exe"
Then next string
Value Name "HomeLSKText"
Value Data "Calendar"
(Don't enter the quotes above)
This works for me and remaps the left soft key to open the normal windows calendar program. Also works with Right Soft Key simply by changing LSK to RSK - (got my RSK taking me straight to Comm Manager)
Good luck

Ahh bummer. I though I figured something out.
But just to be clear:
Only Sprint customers are having problems with remapping the softkeys, and it's only the right softkey.
The Verizon Touch Pro2 doesn't have to reverse the RSK/LSK paths AND can remap the RSK.
Maybe someone should re-title this as a Sprint only problem?
I've also read some tmoble have this problem too.
just curious, what version of manila do people have? (listed in the same registry location).
mine is 2.1.38416.1 and I am with Sprint.

Link to the Control Panel

Hello guys,
After a long search on the web I can't find the answer to "How to create a control panel shortcut on Windows Mobile".
Out of the box, our Rhodium are packaged with a "Settings" shortcut in the start menu which links to the Settings tab of Manilla. I find this annoying, if i want to go to the manilla settings, i use manilla not the start menu.
So I want a direct link to Windows' control panel. I've seen many ways to link to a specific applet, but not the whole control panel.
Anyone can help ?
PS : Also I'm looking for the HTCSettings.exe file stored in every Rhodium (WM6.5 version)... I've accidentally deleted it :/
Thanks !
I am not sure I understand the question, but I think what you want is to be running TouchFLO instead of Windows Default.. If that is correct, the solution is simple. Click Start>Settings>ToDay>Items>TouchFLO 3D>OK>X and you should have it. What you want is to be running TouchFLO instead of Windows Default.
Hope that helps.
what he is saying is that he wants to got to the control panel or "settings" from the start menu, when you hit start and then settings it takes you to manilla settings
What annoys me is that the Bluetooth and Today screen prefs are ONLY available through the Windows CPL, things like QuickMenu don't see them..
You got is cs400, that's what I'm looking for.
Someone can send me the original HTC Settings.exe (Located in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs) ?
Okay guys, I figured out how to solve this problem by hanging around in the registry !
How to change the "Settings" icon in the Start Menu to make it open WM's Control Panel rather than Manilla's settings panel ?
- First go to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and remove (or move) the file HTC Settings.exe
- Then go to the registry \HKLM\Security\Shell\StartInfo and change the value HideSettings from 1 to 0
- Reboot your device, it's done !
I am trying to change the 'Settings' button in the Start Menu to open the WM Control Panel instead of the Manila settings, however, the \HKLM\Security\Shell\StartInfo key does not exist in my registry. Is there another way to link to the Control Panel? Thanks!
WM control panel shortcut
I would appreciate anyone telling me how to make a shortcut that links to the WM Control Panel.
Thanks!

Thank-you a million times! Just installed something that crashed my HTC Sense, and couldn't for the life of me work out how to get to Remove Programs so I could un-install it! I now have my phone back, without having to go down the hard-reset route which I'd feared was my only option.
you could do as htc intended and clicked "all settings" on the settings tab for those manila doesnt cover.
Which would have worked brilliantly....had I been able to get to the settings tab in the first place.
With Sense freezing, I had to run the 'change my background' option from 'Getting Started' to get into the Today options and disable Sense. Then use the tips in this thread to get the Settings folder back on my Start Menu. Normally I would have used the All Settings option, but couldn't in this case, and it's funny how much you don't realise is missing from a start menu....until you need it!
