Windows Mobile Device Emulators 6.5.x - Windows Mobile Software Development

I extracted the WinMo device emulators out of the accidentially published 6.5.x SDK (which has meanwhile been removed by MS). So if you want to give your apps a testride on them, here they are.
The zip (330 MB) contains 2 folders, copy them as follows, assuming you already have WM6 SDK installed.
DeviceemulationV65x ==> C:\Program Files\Windows Mobile 6 SDK\PocketPC
My Device Emulators ==> C:\My Documents\
You may need to modify the *.decfg files to your needs, please check the OSImage and Skin paths in each file to fit your configuration.
Windows Mobile 6.5.3 DTK has now been officially released by MS.
download DTK from Microsoft

Thanks!

Official localized Windows Mobile 6 images

Hello,
I noticed that Microsoft has just released translated version of the Windows Mobile 6 emulator images.
I tried to copy some files from the WM6 Pro French ROM (especially *.mui files) to add them into my cooked ROM to make a "french" ROM. It seams to work but the thing is that I'm able to extract only few files from ROM, I don't have permissions to copy the other files.
Is there any way to extract any ROM file from emulator image? I tried to copy them using Total Commander, Resco Explorer, RAPI, itsutils, without success... the problem occurs always with the same files. I noticed that many mui files were in used by system processes, that should be the problem.
It would be great if anyone knows how to get a file in emulator image !
Thanks.
Hi ALL,

Wow it seems really interesting! Could we also expect localized versions of your ROM to come out?
Could you tell me how to get those files from SDK images?

Can you make a short explain on how to extract files from the emulator (if this is the way you obtain the files for Black 3) ?
Thanks man.
Launch the emulator and configure it run with Active Sync.
I did this some time back to extract the sound files from the old PPC2003 image. (There may be a much easier way. Active Sync is also very slow for transferring all the files in the ROM.)

Understanded.
But the really port that open the localiced images for us is the posibility to traslate one ROM (black 3.0, for instance) into any language, if i am not wrong.

actually i ve had these images for a few weeks or so.. the build in the sdk refresh is exactly one build lower than our current release.
using this build would be a step backwards..

Hi again.
I connected the emulator with PC using ActiveSync, but isn't possible to copy all the files in the ROM, cause same of them are blocked by the system if i access trought AS.
Is there any other way to extract all the content of the .BIN image?
Thanks and sorry for my insistence, but this emulator image can give me a chance to put WM6 in spanish
How to extract the files from an image emulator for noobs:
1- Dowload the images that you want here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...26f-a913-4f370a65a582&DisplayLang=en#filelist
2- Install them in your computer.
3- Take the image that you want from the installation folder.
For example, if you have downloaded the images for ESN language look in the folder "C:\Archivos de programa\Windows Mobile 6 SDK\PocketPC\Deviceemulation\0C0A":
The image for Hermes is: PPC_ESN_GSM_VR.BIN (I'm not 100% sure)
- Download Tadzio's imgfs excelent tools in:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298327
- Unzip the tools along with the image in any folder.
- Rename the image to A.BIN (to make the next commands easier to type).
- Open a D.O.S. command window and perform these commands:
> NBSPLIT -emu A.BIN
(it generates two files: A.BIN.EXTRA and A.BIN.PAYLOAD)
> IMGFSFROMNB A.BIN.PAYLOAD IMGFS.BIN
(it generates the file IMGFS.BIN)
> IMGFSTODUMP IMGFS.BIN
And that's all. Files are dumped in /Dump directory. NOW IT'S TIME TO TRANSLATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ey man, glad to see you here
Thanks.
Edit: A little advice, in the great last post by VivaErBetis, when i use NBSplit, i must put -emu in small to work.
WHOOOOOOT DUTCH ALSO!!
Gonna try this..
but not now im going away for a few days..

Install Windows Mobile SDK without Visual Studio

I'm going to start with why, then how.
Why: I use the open source SharpDevelop to write Windows Mobile .NET applications. Some of the managed libraries that are included in Windows Mobile are not usable without the Windows Mobile SDK files. Microsoft's SDK Installer checks for Visual Studio, and if it not installed, will NOT install the SDK.
How: Download the SDK, open a command prompt, cd to where the SDK was downloaded to and type (making appropriate changes):
Code:
msiexec /a "MSI File.msi" /qb TARGETDIR="Full path to target directory"
For example, lets say that the file is called "WM6 SDK.msi" (which it is not), you downloaded it to "C:\WM SDKs\" and you want to extract it to "C:\WM SDKs\WM6 SDK\", you would type:
Code:
cd C:\WM SDKs
msiexec /a "WM6 SDK.msi" /qb TARGETDIR="C:\WM SDKs\WM6 SDK\"
The DLLs you need to add a references in your project will be under a folder called Designtimereferences
Anyone find this useful?
heyy thanks i found this useful...havent tried it yet, but didnt wanna go about downloading and installing VS if i dont want/need to

I doubt it ... I use SharpDevelop. I have a legal copy of Visual Studio 2003 + 2005, but I use SharpDevelop.
SharpDevelop
Does sharp develop support Compact Framework 3.5?
What are some advantages to using this?
I normally develop with visual Studio 2008 Professional with the Window Mobile 6 SDK.
Wish I would have know about this sooner.
2008 Standard does not support windows mobile development and pro was kind of spendy.
2005 standard supports it.
<slight rant>
Why microsoft? Why would you require pro to make apps, when you need to gain market share. The other platforms are growing because of the availabilty of apps.
</slight rant>
Sharp Develop DOES support CF 3.5, but you need to install .NET CF 3.5 and .NET CF 3.5 Power Toys on the PC to use it ... See Compact Framework on SharpDevelop Wiki.

HTC MTeoR WM 6.X

Firstly, sorry if I have missed something. I have read the threads, and seen a 6.2 beta version, but this is quite old & I can't see an update to 'release'.
I want (need) to update a htc MTeoR from 5.0 to windows mobile 6.X to push my .NET 3.5 applications.
I am a total newb in doing this, so could some kind soul-
* point me at the definative & up to date version of this
* the instructions for doing this.
I have downloaded the Windows_Live_10.6.34.2500.cab, but have no idea how to load this (it has a load of files with a number as an extension, and then a _setup.xml that doesnt seem to run).
Sorry to be such a newb!
Regards, J.

I use this for my Xperia : http://www.4shared.com/file/AFkRf-oC/UnpackEmuROM.html
Unrar, copy your emulator image into BaseROM and run UnpackEmuROM.cmd
I hope to help you.
Edit : but be careful because you can't use this XIP for cooking a real ROM.
Thanks man it works perfectly i was looking for something like this for a long time.

Windows Phone 7 cab files can be e-mailed and downloaded, by ansar.

Hi,
The attached cab file contains an exe file, common to all wp7 roms.
It is verified that can be sent with an e-mail and then can be downloaded to the e-mail sender windows phone device.
There is no need for any other app in order to do the task, you can try it, it is completly safe.
Regards, ansar.

Hi,
Did not try it yet but i think it will have no problem.
With xap in order to work one should include the required .xml files too.
May be it is important to test if hubs can also be passed this way, although are large sized.
But if it works for hubs etc, other brand devices like Samsung can be benefit too.

Maybe not but I can't install it on my WP7 device.
If I remember .cab is executable program for WM6.x
So I don't understand why he put it here if it's not installable.
WP7 cabs
Hi,
For your info, in all windows phone 7 ROMs there are 2 cab files included, these:
1. In OEM packages there is a special package (folder) named OEM_8x50_OS
... Inside this package there is the 1st cab named oemavatar.cab
2. In SYS packages there is a special package (folder) named MSAvatar
... Inside this package there is the 2nd cab named msavatar.cab
Both cabs have been verified that can e-mailed and then downloaded in the window phone 7 device.
The cab i included in the attachment in post #1 is made by me for testing purposes.
It includes an exe file that there is already inside the ROM of any windows phone 7 device.
It is also tested that the famus Totalcmd.cab can also be e-mailed and downloaded by the device.
Of course Total Commander cannot be executed by the wp7 device due to its header that is addressed to wm devices.
Next tests will include xap files like those of the system xap that are responsible for the Metro UI.
Regards, ansar.
