question about a bricked hero - Hero, G2 Touch Android Development

Hy, i found a guy who has a bricked hero ( stucked at bootloop ) he is seling it preaty cheap and i'm wondering if maybe it can be revived. He said that u push the power buton, it starts up stays like that for like 5 seconds, than it shuts down. he also said that the problem started when he tried to upgrade it from 1.6 to 2.1 and also he mentioned that the phone was rooted before, but now wont enter in cyanogen ( havent got the time yet to read what cyanogen is).
here is a youtube video ( not his phone ) but where the phone is stuck, u can look at the second 26, there his phone reboots. what u say? can it be somehow revived? what do u sugest me? curently i own a diamond and i would love and android phone. cheers

I don't think that's bricked mate. A bricked Hero, typically, won't turn on at all.
Can he enter Fastboot?
I think it's Home+Back+Power...

as i said i dont have the phone but i could buy it for about 140euros if i have any chance to revive it. cheers

Or you could be generous and point him here, so he can fix it himself?

The chances are, it can be fixed.

Story seems a bit strange to me
But yeah sounds like it can be fixed.

Offer 100 for it. Say you might be able to fix it and you are taking on all the risk!

This happened to me too. But it isn't bricked, at least it wasn't for me. I don't know if it's rooted, but mine was. I took out the sdcard, booted in to recovery (the one where you flash new ROM's, dunno if it's the right name). And then I wiped, and installed a new ROM.
Hope this helps

hy, thx for information, can u be a little mor specific? if somehow it aint rooted is it anyproblems entering into recovery mode? this hapend to you also while upgrading from 1:6 to 2:1 ? sry for mistypes, posted from diamond cheers

There is no 1.6 or 2.1 on Hero.
Also, Cynaogen mod hasn't been released for Hero but for the G1.
I would make sure that you are getting what you're paying for. Buy it off ebay and make him write that he'll accept returns.

If you see the network operator logo or the HTC logo, I reckon it's not bricked. Bricked usually equals nothing, or just an error triangle or something like that (even the error triangle may indicate hope).
I reckon it may be worth a shot (can't see any youtube link to see for myself).
Back+Power is to enter fastboot FWIW. Maybe you could ask him to plug it in and see if the charging LED comes on??? That sometimes indicates it's still working.
I'll vote 'boot-loop', which isn't critical. Should be fixable by goldcard and RUU downgrade, then installation of custom ROM.

there is one leaked 2.1 rom, from which several 2.1 roms have been built. all can be found here and on modaco's. also there is one 1.6 rom, which hasn't been updated since 30. october 2009.

The owner of the phone presumably said that he "can't get into Cyanogen anymore". I think he meant Cyanogen's recovery image v1.4, which preceded Amon's
One should try loading a fresh recovery image - running the "Fastboot" part of the code at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561124
If the recovery image is corrupted, there could be issues of "access-denied" running certain "fastboot" commands, depending on method of past rooting. Even with a Goldcard. I was there.

Pretty Much Bricked (please Help!!!)

Hey guys. I really , really , really, (can't emphasize that enough), need your help. I flashed my Vogue about a week ago with the 19588 ROM using PPC Geeks Kitchen.
I ended up having to do a warranty exchange because my volume button came a little loose. Well, I went to Flash back to the Stock Alltel ROM, the one that is on the HTC site, thats linked on this page, the one I always use, and now I'm screwed.
It makes it to 43 percent and says theres a communication error. The really weird thing is, I can flash any other ROM to the phone, just not the Alltel ROM. Below , I've listed what I've tried, so you get an Idea. I'm beggin you to help me out here.
*I started out with CokeMan 2.31 , and the 19588 Cooked PPCGeeks Kitchen ROM.
*After the first 5 failed attempt to flash the Alltel ROM, I flashed CokeMan v0.41, and then flashed Mustangs Clean ROM w/o GPS. (this is when I figured out other ROM's will work)
*I re-downloaded the Alltel ROM from HTC's website 6 times, and have tried it on three separate computers and no luck.
*I tried almost ten different ROM's , and each time tried flashing the Alltel ROM afterwords.
*I extracted the Alltel ROM to a folder. Downloaded a blank RUU folder. Copied all of the files from the alltel folder to the RUU folder. (All of the files that were in the Alltel Folder, and not in the RUU folder.) It actually flashed all the way thru, but is now stuck at the HTC screen, and says NO RADIO at the bottom. I just stopped trying, and now am turning to the PPC Gods, you guys. SO PLEASE HELP ME OUT. I have to sent the thing back by monday, or they charge me.
I've always been able to flash to the Alltel ROM from and ROM i've ever used, and never had this trouble before in my PPC life. It always just relocks the phone.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!
flash using the sd card
Sounds like you've flashed the f*** out of that phone, suprised it didn't overheat ! Anyways, try the SD method. Also, what radios have you been adding on, or originated with on the ROM you had when you first started.
Also, I'll be quite honest, if I had to return the phone for any reason and couldn't flash back, I'd probably break it to pieces and say it was run over!
how to use SD anyone? please? ive never tried
does it really matter what ROM is on there ...if your having a button problem? You obviously didn't cause the issue because of the ROM.

1. Format your MicroSD card to FAT32 (YES - FAT 32 32 32!! not just plain old FAT) (again, this is not required if your card is already fat32; it is ok to have other data on the card). I have read that the card needs to be 2gb or smaller, though I'm not sure how much truth, if any, there is to that...
2. Extract the .NBH you desire to flash from the exe or zip or w/e put it on the microsd card rename it from RUU_signed.nbh to VOGUIMG.NBH
3.Put the MicroSD card in your phone and Get To the BOOTLOADER screen (camer+power+reset) it should then start updating with the .NBH on the SD card and the procedure should begin automatically.
quoted from here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=17473
and also, like the champ said, what radios have you flashed?
EDIT: and, which alltel rom are you trying to flash? if you were reverting back to a non-gps/lower radio rom, you did make sure to downgrade the spl properly using these instructions here correct?

If you can't flash it, make sure to make it so it can't even start up... you need to completely brick it so it can't get to the bootloader, just not even turn on. Then you can blame HTC and get a new one

You can't be serious with this, right? The idea here is to fix it, not blame HTC, because I'm sure that would go over real smooth with the carrier.

Well that sounds like a horrible idea! Lol I mean if it has to be done then yeah just go to a GPS ROM and then flash back and it will brick and you can send it in if you have TEP from Sprint or something.. But first I think he wants to FIX the phone not destroy it and start over
My touch is also bricked. It boots to the Sprint logo and stops there.
What do you mean a button problem.
My Touch's green and red buttons stopped working before updating. But the phone still worked. After updating the ROM, even the phone stop working.
Could you please elaborate on this?

Ok ok.
First off, READ before flashing! If you did, this wouldn't have happened.
Next, what OS are you using? XP? Vista? Are you running it inside of a virtual machine? (like inside Mac OS X) Because that could brick your device.
Did you try unlocking your device before you flashed the ROM? You must do this before flashing to custom ROMS.
What does your bootloader screen say? What are your ROM and Radio versions?
you need to upgrade your radio 3.42.50 then reflash the ROM...
Wonder if he got it fixed?

bricked my GSM diamond with CDMA

hi folks,
seems to be that i have a BIG problem...
my t-mobile diamond had some heavy connection problems the last days (apart from this battery sucking system that made me charge it twice a day), so i decided to install both a new radio rom and a new WM rom on it.
after all those attempts didnt work (yes, i've read the threads and yes, i've followed the instructions! ), i got the ****ING IDEA to follow the instruction shown on youtube.com/watch?v=ZYGibMZC7-g (see also forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=36062) for a CDMA diamond. don't ask why, i thought that i could own a cdma phone as all of the gsm software didn't work... :-//
during step no. 1 (unlocking - yes, i wanted to do the whole programm! :-/ ) my diamond switched off and ... is dead now! no chance to switch it on, no chance to get into bootloader, no chance to hardreset...
now my question to the pros: do i have ANY chance to reanimate my diamond? i would be grateful for any ideas!!! thanks in advance,
p.p.
have you tried vol down and soft reset simultaneously?

Try a hard reset. If that doesnt work see if you can enter bootloader. Instructions can be found in a search.

thanks, but as i've already written, both doesn't work. my diamond is simply... DEAD! :-(
yep looks like it
anyone ANY idea to get my diamond back to life?
my frind i think you nead a new mb so you must go to htc service
It was quite common, when people were looking desperately for SU and were using CDMA soft.. Sorry to say this, but your diamond is a brick now, and only motherboard replacement will do. there are some hardcore people on this forum who are rescuing such phones, but I'm not sure if they are still operational. Search for JTAG on teh forum, or send it to the service. If it;s on guarantee, then you should be fine, as they shouldn't be able to determine what happened. Otherwise you can always zap the phone with a stunner, and presto, phone ready for guarantee.
your phone is dead bro, i will be willing to buy it from you, i need peices to fix mine, pm me if interested
hey dude, dont worry..u're like the umpteeth guy who did it..just refer to this forum forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-488687.html..haha
I have long time ago also installed a CMDA-ROM accidentally. When the flashing procces ended I just got only the slpash screen (black without Rom Version Information).
I thought my Diamond was bricked but i could not believe it . After i had performed a hardware reset several times i used mitty and i could flash a ROM.
Now i have mostly a ROM as backup on my storage-card this in case it will go wrong during flashing procces.

Help, i think ive bricked my HTC Hero :((((((

Hi Guys,
I really need your help.
I went and got myself the new HTC Hero (G2) on t-mobile about 2 weeks ago - since i have got it i have been doing loads of research and stuff in to the device and started to have a play around with it last night.... the first thing i did was install VillainROM 5.2: RELEASE CANDIDATE - for GSM HERO (NOW WITH KITCHEN!) Image just incase summin bad happens (ironic really) and then took a nandroid backup .
I then went ahead and installed the MoDaCo ROM..... I then thought i'd try another ROM just to see how easy it is (or isn't) to load them..... but something has gone wrong somewhere.... after i loaded VillainROM custom ROM i cannot get passed the G2 Touch boot screen..... nothing seems to work.
I have wiped the device several times and formatted the sdcard several times and tried to restore from the nandroid backup but nothing has worked.
Any ideas guys?
Cheers,
Dev

Yeah... that sounds bricked.
ive send you an email
If you've JUST switched ROMs, there's nothing you could've done to brick your handset, UNLESS you've flashed a CDMA radio instead of a GSM radio in order to flash the 2.1 roms.
Otherwise, try to get into recovery mode while holding the HOME button and pressing POWER ON. Don't let go until you get into recovery mode.
Like I mentioned; unless you've flashed a CDMA radio, you should be able to enter recovery.

I flashed a CDMA radio ;/ and after this i put file with rom into my memory and i flash flash was stop somewhere in the middle and phone was switched off, and now dont wont to switch on
Why would you flash a CDMA radio on a GSM Hero?
don't know i think its nessesery ;/
Its like i sed it was my frist time so i do it... and i lose g2 ;/
Well then you are bricked.
There are ways to recovery from this but they are not widely documented and are not easy to do.
Never ever ever flash anything CDMA on a non CDMA device and visa versa.
Fuc...... he..... Thanks any way ;/

Oh NO! What have I done. Created Goldcard, Rooted Desire, now am network locked?!

Ok,
I think I'm in trouble here. I got a HTC Desire a couple of days ago from Orange. I promised I wouldn't mess with my phone this time, new OS (I had custom ROMS on touch HD, Kaisers, etc) but thought I'd leave this alone. Just wanted some stablity.
But then Orange went and stuffed their Desire full of crap and after reading lots I thought, well I've done it WM phones, and others seem to do okay so here goes.
Made the Goldcard. following the instructions for rooting. Everything seemed to go well until....
I turn the phone on, hmm, yep it's different, no Orange splash screen, different sound (before I had no start up sound). HTC, green on white shows....a second....locked screen.
"Network Locked - Please contact customer care". I unlock the screen by sliding down and am faced with:
"SIM network unlock PIN".
What have I done? Can I get phone back? Is it my SIM?
Any ideas or help? Should I start at the beginning? or anyone know where it went wrong?
All help galdy received.

Yep, it's your radio needs downgraded. Just remember that radio flashes go through 2 reboots, and under no circumastances interrupt the radio flash by removing the battery if you think it's taking too long or whatever.
Either that, or just network unlock your phone. I gave up re-flashing radio roms whilst testing, just to use my phone.
Don't bother speaking to Orange, they're about as usefull as a chocolate fireguard.
So did this fix ur issue?
I'm also planning to get a black Orange HTC Desire from uk.
Yes it fixes the issue, Orange only allow that radio I mentioned to be used on their network atm. I, myself and many others had this problem when debranding.

Wow, so maybe not so bad as I thought!. Now, I just have to copy over the radio zip file to the micro SD card, and follow the instructions. Thanks for your swift repies.

Ah, you're stars! NEver knew about the radio problem with Orange.
So, all sorted. A shiny lovely Desire, with none of the Orange crap - and it was loads. the thing that really irritated me was that they didn't even give you the option to uninstall the game demos. A feel a bit freer, and a lot less stressed.
