Desire to ATT? - Desire General

BGR seems to think so. I'm SO getting one if it's true.

YYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. I never liked the htc sense but is gaining on me so much. Just waiting for the first one on AT&T's 3g. The nexus one I will put htc sense on for sure and the Desire I will root it so I can CHANGE from sense to stock android. Anybody's strategy for the first htc android phone on AT&T?

i want the desire. i like the sense UI and would rather have it on the device instead of using ROMs.
part of me wants the nexus, so updates are always out.. but there's always xda XD.

oh no! what if I buy an att desire for t-mobile, will I get 3g?

Oh please Heavenly Lord don't give such a beast to such a undeserving network! Let them stick with the iphone.
And to the above you will get 2G only!!!

Down with AT&T!!!!
This phone should come to T-Mobile since they need an exclusive phone (the nexus one doesn't count because of that lame arse plan you have to get) that is really good.
Stick with your iPhone AT&T. You need the fanboys going over to you and let the "real" carriers get the Android phones.

I thought Tmobile was getting this phone??

I don't see why everone is dogging AT&T? ya i'm not in love with the carrier or iphone. In fact i'm one the biggest iphone haters alive, but AT&T is the only service where I get 3g and it is FAST. T-MOBILE gets edge at best on the nations 3rd largest carrier. I know AT&T doesn't get good service in some big cities but the best option for me and my area within a 250 mile rdaius. You should be excited att id getting an droid phone, but of course att will some how screw with android with some yahoo android apps or something.

Desire!
This is most likely my next device. I am so glad to see that AT&T saw fit to get a real HTC with great specs. I have been anxiously awaiting which HTC device was coming my way. There is no way I was going to settle for the Backflip! They may also be getting the Sony Ericcson X10 which is also a nice device, but in my opinion nothing compared to the Desire. The confirmed Dell mini 3 is not even a consideration, but the mini 5 would definately have my attention. Cant wait to hear a release date, I know what I'm getting myself for my Bday in May if the release date works out.

Your carrier fanboyism aside, I don't want an iphone. I can't switch to T-mobile. Know why? Because there's no T-mobile 3G where I live.
Millions of americans are in the same predicament, and choices are usually limited 1 or 2 carriers. For east Orlando, that means VZW or AT&T. Hence, despite T-mobile's awesome prices and great phones (I wanted an N1, HD2 and an N900, guess whose network they only work with?), there's an important reason why they're still #4- they keep avoiding us. So piss off...
That said, I want an N1 or Desire... hurry up AT&T!!!

I don't think it'd make a whole lot of sense for TMo to get both the Nexus One (which they're rumored to get - subsidized on-contract, not the unlocked version) and the Desire; they're basically the same hardware...

I want this on tmobile so bad. i love tmobile

Will the desire with its current specification run on at&t 3G network? I noticed the 850 band is only labeled GSM, while the 900/2100 is labeled HSDPA.
In this column, he mentions it will only run on 2G in the states.

No. Need to wait for a US version otherwise the best you'll get is edge.

Lol, I have AT&T and I'll stay with them only if I can't get this phone with Verizon.
Problem is, AT&T drops lots of my calls, somewhere in the neighborhood of 5% around town and as high as 20% where I live. They seem fine other wise. When i'm traveling to other areas, life is good with them. Their devices work internationally and I can talk and surf at the same time. When I'm near my home which isn't a rural area at all, drop drop drop.

Or find some way to get an unlocked one from Telstra Austrailia, they'll be rolling out the Desire next month. They run an 850Mhz 3G network and as with their 850Mhz Touch HD, their 850Mhz Desire should work on AT&T as well.

TP2: Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, ... where to turn?

Wow - looks like everyone is about to come out with their version of the TP2. The question for me now is - who to sign up with? What are the pros & cons of CDMA vs GSM versions? I've read about bad customer support with Sprint. Who's got the better (stable, coverage, speed) network? Any incentive to go unlocked?
Thank you!
I'll be getting one w/ tmobile usa because of the plan prices, great support, and GSM any where in the world!!
im going with Verizon,, im a sales man, and i need a reliable network.. if i dont get any signal i will lose clients. so im going with the best network in the US. you want the best you have to pay for it.

Personally I never lose reception in the U.S but I guess it all depends, so that is a good reason to go with Verizon, but I am gonna get it for T-mobile cause of an existing contract, otehr wise I think I would want to get it for [email protected]
If you want a weakened and crippled phone with horrible customer service then Verizon is definitly the way to go.
If you want a Touch Pro2 that works worldwide, that can be unlocked to any network, then go with AT&T or T-Mobile. Personally, I would go with AT&T as they have a larger 3G coverage throughout the US.

I tend to agree, I am an ex- verizon guy and had to deal with the slow phone deliveries, dumb down hardware issues(Thank God for XDA) as well as the CDMA not in use with the majority of the rest of the world.
If you need world wide connectivity and the best US 3G, Att is your best bet, but to be honest who deploys first tends to win. I guess the race is on.
Price, world-wide connectivity, un-crippled phone features, and customer support all point to Sprint as the best choice for someone about to choose a carrier for the first time and wanting the TP2.
The reports you've read about Sprint's CS are BS. I've been with them for 3 years and have had many opportunities to work with customer support and have walked away from the experience satisfied and better off every time. They clearly have been and continue to work hard to turn around a bad customer service department, and it's paying off.
Also, in all that time I've not had a single dropped call, save for one area between me and my office that is a "dead zone" that no carrier apparently covers (I car pool and we all use different carriers. We all drop at the same place).
I vote for Sprint. Better data network than ATT and T-Mo combined plus i read that Sprint's version is going to be dual mode (CDMA/GSM 900/1800?).
So you get good CDMA coverage in the States and when abroad, pop in a SIM and use a local GSM network. Works for me that way.
First of all, the Sprint and Verizon versions ARE global. They are CDMA and GSM. Get it straight people.
I have been with Verizon since before they were Verizon, and I have had absolutely ZERO issues with customer service, billing, phone replacement, coverage, dropped calls, etc. That is also having lived in 2 different regions of the country in that time.
I agree, they're sometimes slow to release phones, and hopefully the TP2 crippling isn't reminiscent of the TP1, but we'll have to wait and see. It all comes down to the best network in your area. In mine, Verizon is hands down the best, followed by AT&T second, a tin can with a string 3rd, and Sprint 4th.

Yes, Sprint is CDMA, and the Touch Pro2 for Sprint and Verizon will be dual mode (CDMA/GSM).
im an existing tmo customer (very happy with their service) and am craving to get tp2, but willing to switch to at&t since my contract with tmo has expired and i might get a better price at at&t as a new customer
sprint .. eh .. not sure, maybe
would be great if someone could do an in depth side-by-side comparison of these companies, like prices, features, extras ..
for example, i found out that at at&t and sprint you get to listen to pandora for free, but not on tmo, also engadget figured that at&t has better 3G than others, stuff like that
in general, question stands - tmo, att or sprint?
well, the CDMA phones cannot use voice and Data at the same time. so that's a big deal.
coverage and network speed vary largely depending on area. and nobody knows what the phone will cost yet through any of the carriers.
good, something new, kinda rules out sprint

tmo hands down.... check billshrink.com to compare all four carriers (its not endorsed by any carriers by the way)
Hope this isn't a thread hijack.. what's the scoop on ROM support for CDMA versions of HTC phones? (I see the posts about TP2 being CDMA+GSM)
I've been here flashing ROMs for 8125/8525/8925, but always had a GSM version... and have really NOT noticed ROMs for the CDMA flavors of those phones..
Sprint appears to offer me the best price for a family plan with 2 data phones + messaging (~$130 vs. $170/month if I've got my info correctly), so I'm thinking heavily about dropping ATT after ~8 years... but wanted to be sure I wouldn't lose access to all the fantastic ROMs from XDA.

[Q&A]3G and other Band support?

This is an amazing phone.
I am waiting to see on which service it will be released. I'm hoping t-mobile, but many doubt it...
The bands that it runs on, what service are they compatible with in the US?
I'm sure people (me?) will purchase this phone from different places and would want to use it in America.
What 3g would it be compatible with, if any?
I was in a t-mobile store on friday and The customer rep said they will be selling a htc snapdragon android.
They already are...the Nexus One.
I personally doubt that TMo would sell the Desire in addition to the Nexus One considering that they are essentially the same device.
is this gonna be the new AT&T HTC Android phone???
oh boy! oh boy!
Telstra Desire to At&t 3G
This may be a bit of a jump
But it looks like Telstra (AU) will be one of the early release partners for the Desire... I believe they run a 850 Mhz 3g band...
At&t is largely 850 Mhz as well..
Assuming that it works as well as the HD2 did (Telstra HD2s seem to work pretty well on At&t), we may have a US 3G Desire sooner than we thought...
The strange part is that HTC has directly said that a US 3g version is not in the plans any time soon, but if they already have one with the correct band...(yes I know it's not 100% right, but it still seems strange)
Thoughts?
You may not have to import. The Desire is coming to ATT: http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/02/23/att-picking-up-htc-desire-sprint-grabbing-htc-hero2/
Fingers crossed...
Though I sort of hope the Desire shows up on Tmobile first to give me a good excuse to get myself to jump off At&t...

ME TOO! Gosh im so tired of ATT, their prices and customer service. Just terrible. I think if this came out for T-Mobile i would give them a try, just a little nervous for their coverage. I live in California-Bay area so i hope its great there, but trips to Tahoe and such, not sure about yet Anyone in California on T-Mobile hoping for this phone? Hows your experience with T-Mobile too?
If it comes to T-mobile I might pick it up for the hell of it...... looks like a great phone
Im enjoying my nexus with the Desire rom. Its nearly flawless except for camera flash
I remember reading that this phone will be coming to all major carriers
I think T-mobile is a major carrier?
If Telstra get this I'm camping out for it
It must be 3.5G capable to work on Telstra's NextG network otherwise they wont add it to their product line... Any thoughts on this?
T-Mobile already has the Nexus one. AT&T has said they are pushing for an Android Nexus one competitor. Doesn't it make sense that the Desire is it? I dont' see T-Mobile getting the Desire at all.
Verizon is getting the Nexus one, Sprint is getting the Hero 2. These are confirmed. The Desires only home right now is AT&T.
Exchange Support
I've been reading up on the phone vs. the Nexus One and the press releases are stating that HTC beefed up the Exchange support in this build.
Can anyone running the leaked build comment on that support? Does it support subfolders? Calendar? Tasks?
I'd rather not have to buy a 3rd party app to get this -basic- Exchange functionality!
I too, would like to know how this. I have read that the Sense UI adds Calendar syncing to the Mail and Contact syncing that the N1 has.
Does it also add the ability to access the Global Address List?
only difference in the new exchange support is that it allows for peak and off-peak scheduling. everything else is the same.
I believe it also has task sync too...
Search for exchange on this page:
http://www.buzzcritic.com/gadgets/htc-desire-official-nexus-one-with-htc-sense
If we can go by the software in the very similar new HTC Legend, then it does Mail, Calendar and Contacts, but not Tasks.
You can read up on this for yourself in the new online manuals for the Legend. Just go to the HTC website and look for the Legend Manuals under support.
The same situation occurs for the iPhone/iTouch. In that case, there is an excellent 3rd party application called IMExchange which syncs tasks to the mobile device using WebDav, the OWA API. In practice this works well.
Hopefully someone will do the same for Android.
Ah, the thing that's most important to me is subfolders, and it looks like it's not supported by default. Oh well.
I believe it does support folders. Brightpoint has an article reflecting this.
I am a new user here so cant post urls yet, but if you google "android 2.1 exchange folders", the first reply is from brightpoint and show screen grabs including folder support.
HSPA support
According to HTC, the Desire won't support 3G in USA.
HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
Could someone explain me why as it has exactly the same chips and the same hardware as the Nexus One ?
Why no 1700 MHz ?
Did you know that the Desire would be available in silver ? I just saw that today.
http://news.google.fr/news/search?aq=f&cf=all&ned=us&hl=en&q=htc+desire+silver
Probably a cost cutting measure because this phone is aimed at the Asian and European market.

HD7 Camera ... Ugh!

I don't think I can take it anymore...
It's been how many updates now...
Pre-NoDo

Mango
Just got another update post mango a couple days ago
The pink tint is still there (even clearly visible in the viewfinder). The Camera's Auto-Focus is still worthless, and pictures are still grainy. It's still borderline useless for indoor pictures and the flash is so dominant that anything with eyes looks like there are two flashlights in their head.
Having just moved to a new city with a really scenic historic district (and people back home always asking for pictures on Facebook and stuff), the camera is becoming a show-stopper.
Is anyone still suffering with these issues, or am I alone, now?
I'm getting by fine using my Vibrant, which takes fantastic pictures and actually has usable settings for exposure, saturation, contrast, etc. But I really like being able to take pictures from the lock screen. This is pissing me off.
Also, does the camera in the newer HTC phones have these same issues, and are the camera settings useless in those as well?
I've heard the HD7 has one of the worst cameras in the windows phone market. I have a samsung focus and I think it takes pretty good photos. I've also heard the new HTC Titan has a really good camera, maybe you should try and get an upgrade for your HD7

I have an HD7, and it probably has one of the worse cameras in phones that came out the past 2 years. I think that has been a known fact for a while now.
I have an HD7, and yes, the camera is not a selling point. HTC has had a rep for so-so cameras, but it seems to be something that they have tried to address this year.
Any one of the new US Mango phones will have a better camera than the HD7, but the best of the bunch seems to be the HTC Titan on AT&T. It has an exceptionally wide max aperture (2.2), so it should perform really well in low light.
If you got the HD7 on T-Mobile and you want to stay there your only other WM7 choice is the new smaller Radar which has an improved camera, though I don't know that it's good enough to justify the switch. On the Android side T-Mo has the Amaze 4G and the Mytouch Slide 4G which both have really strong cameras.
The best camera phone that I have ever had is the Nokia N8 which can handle both T-Mobile and AT&T. Nokia uses a larger light sensor in the N8 than any other phone - it's the size of a point-and-shoot sensor. Great phone and incredible reception for both voice and data. You have to get used to Symbian OS, though, which is an acquired taste. And then there's the iPhone 4 which also among the top camera phones.
The good part about WP7 phone compatibility is they are all world phones. As long as you unlock the sim or buy a phone already unlocked you'll be able to use it on any network...3G as well. I don't know about CDMA versions of WP7 phones, though, since they generally don't use sims.
So, if you are on T-Mobile and want something from AT&T, buy it, unlock it, put your T-Mobile sim in it and you're good to go. You'll get T-Mobile's HSPA quasi-4G data speeds.
By the way, had I known I could have used my T-Mobile HD7 with full data access (3G) when I went to AT&T, I'd likely still have it. I loved my HD7.

you don't know how radio bands work do you?
I know the camera is dubious.
I'm just dumbfounded that HTC hasn't either:
1. Pushed an update to at least get rid of the pink tinted pictures, like they did for the HD2.
or:
2. Put more Camera Options into the App and pushed that in one of the updates. The camera has pretty much no useful options so there is absolutely no control over picture quality. They're grainy, pink-tinted, often overexposed, and the phone's auto-focus is terrible. It actually focused on something way off in the distance in the background several times when I was trying to take a picture of someone standing in front of me.
The Vibrant takes infinitely better pictures, but I like the camera button on the HD7. It takes too long to get the Vibrant unlocked and into the Camera when I want to take a picture, plus the GPS is terrible so Geotagging doesn't work all that great on it... ...

Those Quasi-4G speeds you're talking about don't exist in your scenario. The best you'll get is EDGE, and do you seriously think I'm going to pay $5-700 for a phone when I can open a new line for a promotion and ETF early for $200 on T-Mobile?
T-Mobile's data speeds are terrible here anyways. Can't even get above 1Mbps with a full signal on any of my devices. I'm switching to AT&T or Verizon when my Contract is up.

you aren't this dumb. You must be joking.
I just wish I'd have known GSM WP7 phones are compatible on all GSM networks when I owned my T-Mobile HD7. I would be using it with AT&T's 3G data right now rather than selling it and buying a Focus. Not that the Focus is bad, it isn't. The Focus is a sweet phone. But I loved my HD7 and would have kept it when I went to AT&T.
Yeah, just trolling. No ling term xda member would make such a blatantly stupid statement.
They aren't. The GPRS and EDGE bands are compatible across most GSM carriers. The 3G bands aren't always compatible. T-Mobile and AT&T don't share any 3G bands, so a T-Mobile branded phone 95% of the time will only get EDGE on AT&T and Vice Versa.
The HD7 does not get 3G on AT&T, the AT&T Variant (HD7S) has different bands in it.
The only phone on AT&T that you can unlock and get 3G/HSPA+ on T-Mobile with at the moment, everywhere T-Mobile has coverage (not just one band for sketchy areas where that band exists) is the iPhone 4S.
This is why Nokia N Series phones were usually not sold in Carrier stores (in the US). They had Pentaband radios and what carrier is going to subsidize a $600 phone to $200 or so only to see people buy it and pay a $200 ETF fee and go to a competing carrier with mass savings?

All GSM devices are world phones in the sense that they all allow you to connect to any GSM carrier's network to make calls, sent SMS/MMS, and in many cases even get Edge Data.
There are no WP7 devices with a penta-band radio in them. US devices have the bands supported by the carriers carrying them.
Being a "World Phone" is really only a bullet point CDMA Users who travel overseas have to worry about. People on GSM carriers do not have to worry about that...

You're a horrid sort. There is no maliciousness on my part, but from you, there is. You must have a miserable existence where you need to attack people right and left. Maybe your family is too much for you to handle and are pressuring you something terrible. But attacking people is not a proper response. You should reevaluate your life and come to terms with your struggles and learn to be a decent and kind person. Until then you will remain a social problem. Sorry for being blunt but you have been attacking where no attack should happen.

4G coming to the UK, will my HTC One X get those speeds?

For those of you who live in the UK, you may of heard recently that 4G is finally coming to the UK on the Orange and TMobile UK networks very soon. My question is will my HTC One X be able to receive the 4G signal?
EDIT: Apparently not as the hardware isn't in the phone to connect to 4G
If i'm totally honest, i'm not to bothered. HSPA is MORE than enough for me.
Nope.
That's why the One XL was released in USA for the 4G network there.
Actually, looks like the Asia/Aus version of One XL might work, it supports 1800MHz LTE.
Ah okay nevermind then..thanks guys.
As always well be limited and throttled most likely and they will take advantage and hike the prices up for those wanting to make use of 4G technology. Heck the current technology is quite poor in some areas. Central London and some parts of London are heavily congested and barely get any data signal!

if thats the case whats the point cause when i went into contract for 2 bloody years with t-mobile they said when the 4g is rolled out and active my HOX would benefit, lying scumbags
T-Mobile told me the same thing as well, when i corrected them Quad Band is different to 4G and this is not a 4G phone, the sales guy didnt have a response...
may be you can cancel your contract on grounds of Mis Selling

yeah thats exactly what i was thinking,i wonder if my case is strong enough? i certainly could try or at least haggle for compensation
could set a precedent and others may follow my lead
Tmobile take the pee when it comes to giving correct information, all this hype about 4G coming and i bet the majority of phones they sell dont even support it. Not only do they take the right mick when it comes to releasing OTA updates (one of the main reasons why i joined this forum!) now it looks like they're giving wrong information to customers about 4G. For me personally its not a big deal that i wont get 4G because the current signal and speeds I get now are reasonable enough even though since the start of the olympics i've noticed a bit of a decline in performance dont know if you guys have experienced this either but its the fact that they've made a big hoo haa about this and havent given clear information about who's gonna benefit from this and who wont.
It's quite hard to say, as the 4G network here will be completely different. Despite my post earlier saying, no, I've been doing some research and the 4G network in the UK will be using the already existing 1800MHz frequency. The specs for the One X say it can use this frequency.
What speed is 4G supposed to be? I regularly test and see like 4-5mb don't need anymore tbh

Yeah, but it hasn't got a clue what LTE is, so it won't work.

[Q] Current M8 user, considering switch from Verizon to T-Mobile.

Hey All
Current Verizon M8 (rooted to GPE) user and I'm considering jumping to T-Mobile. I've loved the M8 and would intend on going with that device again if we make the switch. Planning on doing a Test Drive to get a feel of the network coverage in my area (Morris County, NJ).
Should all go well with that test, anything I should take into consideration with the T-Mobile version of the M8? Anything to be concerned with (rooting again, network radio capabilities, features, etc.)? Any past experiences of others switching to make note of?
Edit: Also, any success with using a Verizon M8 on the T-Mobile network? I'm savvy enough to make root-based mods if necessary. Wouldn't mind buying out the rest of my Verizon EDGE value on the phone to keep what I have.
Thanks for any input!
I also made the switch to t mobile from verizon. My first and only phone I have owned is the HTC Oe m8. The phone staright from TMobile came full of bloatware. 10+ apps of non sense. Coming from ios i had never rooted or unlocked a bootloader. I have to say it was super easy. TMobile does take awhile to realease updates but converting over to developer edition can take care of all that.

Tmobile updates faster than Version and att.[emoji1]
HTC One M8 from T-Mobile here. I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile a while back and was disappointed at first but T-Mobile is definitely upping their game and recently I haven't even looked back. The benefits to T-Mobile over Verizon? Much faster updates. Most devices are less locked down. Uses GSM version of the M8 (I don't believe the Verizon version is compatible but T-Mobile has a neat little monthly payment program that makes getting new phones feel easier) Did I mention the GSM M8 has a LOT more roms and support than the Verizon version? Oh, and you can get truly unlimited data without losing your ability to upgrade. And they don't throttle your data speeds like Verizon seems to do. In many areas T-Mobile has much faster 4G LTE speeds than Verizon.
But that's just everything I can tell you off the top of my head. For many devices, T-Mobile is the first to update their carrier branded devices and, in my opinion, the bloatware was never a big deal. Even found myself using most of what was provided.
At this point, I'd probably wait till the m9 if possible. If you can't, as much as I love my One, the G3 or Moto X would probably get my money on t-mobile. the M8 not having band 2 lte is a major annoyance for me.

Yeah, might as well wait. I like Hima plus 5.5". I just hope when we get lollipop update will have volte.
I would only switch if you live near a major city. Since your Verizon phone will only work on Verizon bands. T-mobile has different bands. I have a Verizon m8 and am on T-Mobile. Luckily I live within 5miles of Philadelphia,PA. I also enabled bands that are locked that can be found out how to do in the Verizon forum. I have excellent reception, lte data, and WiFi calling. But I can say from past users on forums, that the reception can be dreadful if you don't live near a major city due to the band frequencies.
We have lollipop, bad thing is no volte, @at&t probably get their updates next year.lol!!!
