tilt 2 radio - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hi all, Ive been a member here awhile (since my first tilt). I now have a tilt 2. Now i need some advice from the people that has more experience than i. Here is my question, I'm under the assumption that the radio in the rom is what gets the reception for the phone during a call. My problem is my new tilt doesn't have the reception the old tilt had. With the old phone i could talk almost anywhere, The new phones reception is horrible. What rom could i use to get my reception back? I love my new phone, But with the horrible reception I'm thinking of returning the phone. Thanks in advance.
PS my current radio version is 4.48.25.20. I am also located in north Mississippi.

Yes, you are correct, the radio is what handles the phone call communication (as well as 3G, wifi, and bluetooth)...and using different radios can improve reception.
You can indeed replace just the radio, and not everything else on your ROM...but the procedure is pretty much identical.

Hey thanks for the confirm, Now one more question. When i try to open the RHODIUM-HARDSP i get a virus warning. It says BLOODHOUNDw32ep virus detected. Has this file been infected or is it ok. If infected where can i get a good file? And again thanks for the info. PS i downloaded the one for the verizon network(cdma i think) and it opened fine. I know i cant use this one though.

I beleive that's discussed in the HardSPL thread (make sure you read it all thoroghly!), but that's just a false positive, it's known that some AV programs will give warnings like that on custom ROMs.

I have read till my eyes bled ( dont want to brick my phone) But i don't understand why the other file opened without a warning. Again thanks for the reply.

I bought unlocker from rhodiumw.htc-unlocks.com.
I did NOT have any problems to unlock the phone and there was no virus warnings.
After the phone was unlock I load .91 radio and Energy Feb 26 ROM. The phone has much much better reception and faster GPS.

T-Mobile Dash Stronger Signal

Is there a hack/reg edit to get better reception/signal?
Like for Motorola phones EFR=Enhance Full Rate
None that I've seen. The new HTC_WWE_1.33.422.1_4.1.13.51_03.07.90_Ship Rom seems to have stronger radio. I get way better reception in my area since switching to it.
I get a better signal with the new ROM as well. I could never hold on to a call in the elevators at work, NEVER. Now I no longer drop calls and keep 3 bars signal in the elevators. Do the update if you haven't already.

I'll vouch for that.. I just stuffed the new ROM on from using the old T-mobile ROM and the store down the street I wouldn't get any reception inside, I now have three bars. Another positive is how flipping fast this thing runs now.
also, even the rogers rom will give you a better reception...
Will I lose all my information when converting to this new ROM? More importantly, will it remove the T-Mobile apps and such?

Yep. You'll need to backup everything. Just imagine it as a reformat to your PC.
If the OP only installed the Radio portion of the rom would they lose all of their info.
Well, im using the new rogers ROM at this point, and in my office, we never can get reception with any cell. But with the rogers ROM, it says I have two bars right now, and I *just* tried calling my voice mail and now its just sitting there saying "dialing".... although it says I have two bars...
I just flashed htc rom on my Dash. I don't notice any change at all in my signal

Higher micro sd sizes.
I've read that there are a few roms out there that add support for higher capacity microsd cards.
Does anyone know if this is one ?
I did post this in another thread, but..
I flashed with the newest RADIO, on my Dash.
I get higher bars, but I get NO BETTER SIGNAL.
Before you do a complete rom flash, I would just flash the new radio as mentioned earlier in this thread.
I hoped to get a better signal at work, but all I got was higher bars with the same signal as before.

Radio with Ricky's Rom SuX

Has anyone else noticed this?
My internet speed goes from 1/5 to 1/3 of what it used to be, and the latency is also worse (I tested)...
And my signal is awful/nonexistent in places where it was fine with the Rogers WM6 ROM...
Is there anything I can do? Or should I just wait for the TMo WM6.1 ROM? When's that coming?
I'm with Rogers as well man and the latest ROM is amazing! Full signal - no problem.
Can you give me a link to the lastest and greatest Rogers ROM? Or similiar/better? And about my Q's in the first post...
But Roggers ROM is on WM6.0...
I am With Last Kavana's rom with WM6.1 - best ROM ever for me.
Many programs, many features, super fast.
But the radio is the same as Ricky's, isn't it? Isn't it bad...

listen guy, all you need to do is wrap your mobile in heavy duty aluminum foil (note: it must be heavy duty or it will not work) and place in your icebox for 60-72 hours...
after that you will be good to go!
When I first got my S621 from Rogers last May with WM5 on it the phone was great, hardly ever had to reboot it for anything. I have had nothing but problems after I upgrade to Rogers 6.0 ROM. With full signal I would not be able to make calls and would first to try reset the phone service through comm manager, which would rarely work, but usually have to reboot the phone, at times often. Due to this problem I even had the phone replaced which did nothing. So far since I installed Ricky's V7 ROM I've had better battery life and have yet to reboot my phone due to not being able to make a call.
In short, I don't see an issue with the Radio or the ROM.
my speed on t-mo seems like its slowed down since i went with rickys from rogers also, my signal itself seems ok and i dont drop calls-maybe miss a word once in awhile but anyways...
does anyone mind telling me if the radio can be improved in any way?(yes im a noob and i really dont know the first thing to look for, but im just asking a simple yes or no question) sorry i dont have luck SEARCHING
I've determined that consistency doesn't exist.

Noobs,and Everyone Alike(Update Your Radio)

I know a lot of you out there are obviously updating to newer, cooked ROMs. This by far is the best bet when spending the kind of money we are on these phones. You get much more out of your new phone than it is capable of doing from the factory or retail store.
I want to instill in everyone's mind how truly important it is to check out the new radios available for the phone. It takes literally 5 minutes or less start to finish to flash a new radio. You won't lose your newly flashed ROM or any settings that I have found. So, please take notice to my advice. Below is the link for all the newly updated radios for our device. Check out a few of them and make some calls, use your gps. I believe you will be much happier with a new radio, because frankly the stock radios are garbage.
My call signal strength is maxed out in my home whereas it only had 2-3 bars before. My gps doesn't lag behind me anymore, and My Location works perfectly since flashing a new radio. So, try one out. It definitely can't hurt. Below is the link to the thread with all of the newer radios. ENJOY!!!

He mentioned in another thread that the radio he flashed to is the one ending in .57, and that's the one I'd suggest you start with. I happen to have it already because it's the one that comes with the stock T-mo 6.5 ROM...but if you've running any ROM's with a different radio, you'll want to give this one a shot. A few other T-mo users have reported good results with the .77 radio, but I'd still start with the .57 if you haven't already.
thanks outerdepth...
I have always figured I should update my radio, but never bothered/got around to it. Your post re-motivated me, so I updated from .25 to .77 and...
100% improvement!!
My gps accuracy used to be off by about a city block, which I attributed to the fact that 'oh well its a cel phone, what can I expect', now is accurate within a meter or two.
My data speeds are much improved, and I dunno if its my imagination or not, but calls even seem clearer and have a better sound quality to them.
Dont know about battery drain yet, but its not really important to me cause I'm a truck driver, so I can leave my phone plugged in most of the time in the truck
Thanks!!
So this might be a dumb question but are these radio updates official? They overwrite ROM so I'm kinda always wary to ever try this. I have the official HTC ROM from their website and I assume you can flash it back but I'm not sure.
The ROM will stay, all your contacts/text/etc will stay, and you SHOULD NOT have to worry about losing anything. You can use a program like SPB Back Up or Sprite back up if you are worried though.

The radio-roms are "official". However, in order to flash one you have to first do the HardSPL, which isn't official....and may not be completely reversible, depending on what carrier-branded (if any) phone you have.
The only reason this SPL issue may matter is if you have to return for warranty return. If they swap the phone for you in a store then surely nobody in a store will know the difference...but if you have to send it to HTC then non-stock tampering may be evident.
That being said, it hasn't stopped me from taking full benefit of what this site has to offer and make full use of what is possible with my TP2.
Good advice for everyone.
Some of the newer cooked roms require a particular radio...or at least will work best with a particular radio. Before flashing any new rom, read to see if the chef suggests a certain one.

No, the security lock only prevents you from switching carriers. Shouldn't affect the radio.
And in any case the phone doesn't have to be unlocked to install a custom ROM, it has to have a different hard SPL.

Best Radio for T-Mobile UK

Hello folks,
I know this is one of the most repetitive questions asked in this forum but mine is slightly different. I read many posts which says you have to test all the radios yourself and decide what suits you. I am running AOSP GB ROM.
I tried the latest 27.03 then went to 5.14.05.17, both seemed good and I was having good coverage for mobile/GPS. But the main problem is when I want to use 3G for mobile browsing. I see full coverage, H and everything, but when I try to browse something, nothing happens, its like no data is sent/received...It'll stay like that for few seconds sometimes a minute too and then does send/receive which annoys me a lot and prefer a consistent 2G connection which works 100% even though its slow. It happens quite regularly. This is irrespective of which ROM I use so it may be to do with -
a. Radio
b. Phone
c. T-Mobile UK
Btw, I am on "unlimited" data plan.
So just want to know if there are any T-Mobile UK users who don't have this problem and would wish to know which radio suits best for them and then I may try that n see if that helps or infact anything to boost 3G data transfers ?
Help much appreciated.
Cheers,
RD
..... I will say what you said and a lot of people said. Try each radio to see which suits you the best.
If your still having issues (which you are) then give T-Mobile a call. They do diagnostic checks and everything so they will be able to help you out more than what we can.
i find 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 seems to hold a constant H
Hey Thank you both for replying. John, I flashed the radio you said above and it is behaving good so far. Will test this throughout the day but initial impressions are definitely better.
i will definitely second that. i have been using 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 for a long time on my Desire (TMobile) and its the best i have tried.
Is 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 'compatible' with 2.3.3 Gingerbread ROMs?
I am so glad you have created this thread as I havn't got round to it. This problem is a constant pain in the ass, and is driving me nuts.
You have mentioned, if it was to do with 'T-Mobile UK' themselves as I believed it was. I've contacted numerous times regarding this matter but they hadn't a clue what I was on about and I presumed it was to do with the recent merge up with 'Orange UK' to create Everything Everywhere that I signed upto, so I had requested to opt out but they're demanding me to tell them what the reason and issue was, so I did, but they did not respect my decision of wanting to opt out, so I didn't take it any further. If you are signed to Everything Everywhere, then we may have something there...
So, I left that to be... until I investigated the other possibilities... I tried flashing other ROM'S but the problem kept persisting.
However, I have never discovered it could be to do with the 'Radio' I'm using, hopefully it is as it will be less of a hassle for myself and others alike.
I await a solution...;(
Anybody can help assist me? Thanks

no radio is going to fix the issue, i've had that problem since i had the htc hero, tried all the radios, they all the same , can;t really see the difference .the same thing with the desire. what made it worse since the merged with orange.
the only good thing about orange , i get good reception indoors, good for making or receiving calls, no internet .
indoors wifi . oudoors hsdpa(t-mobile) when you a good signal is good . i wouldn't bother flashing more radios, it's t-mobile's **** coverage.
hope this helps
Thanks for your reply.
My first instincts was that is was to do with the Orange merger. If there is a slight improvement by flashing a different radio I would be grateful, if however as you say it makes no difference I'd leave the radio as it is.
It would be great if others can confirm/post a solution.
Thank you.

I would love someone to put the instructions on how to fix my phone, in plain english that i can understand. I thought I might have a bad sim card as well but don't know how to check it. I've put at least 6 different apn's in and nothing. My old phone worked great in my house now i have this 500 dollars ornament that I can barely even get calls on. PLEASE can someone help me? Yes it does work with voice and text messages but no mms and I can't connect to the internet cause of the weak signal I suppose. I haven't tried a new sim card just yet. Installed one that they sent me 5 months ago but when I called them today to activate it was no longer any good. They told me I took too long to activate it and they were sending out another one. As for the signal ...it's very weak. Like one bar two at the most. When we went to oshkosh over the weekend I saw that most everyone was on their cell phone and I couldn't call my kids unless I went searching for an area where my phone would work. I never had this problem before with my other phone that was through straight talk. I spent all day today looking for some more possibilities here and saw that maybe my modem on the phone is no good. I tried to download one and I did but haven't put it into the phone cause I'm scared that I might do it wrong and then the phone will be even more messed up than it is. i believe it's this one i717-ics-ucle2. The guy said it worked good for his straight talk. But if you all think that it's something different then please let me know. Thank you all very much for your time and patience with me. I will definitely try to learn more now that I found this wonderful website.

Here's the problem. I have a note 2 i317 that i bought online from someone. It's build number is jedi xp 9 android 4.1.2 Dernel version 3.0.31 SaberKernel_07+ptmr3 ect ect. So I have little to no signal strength and cannot hook up to the internet. I've called straight talk and spent an hour or two with them as well to no avail. I've been up and down these posts but I'm lost as how to employ some of the things that I have read about. Remember that I'm a noob to the max. I would be very grateful to say the least. I've read if you install something wrong that you can brick your device (whatever that means, but it doesn't sound good). I will be anxiously awaiting for the bravest soul to write me back. I say brave cause with me it might take a while. Sorry
Sincerely
Ed

Hi Ed,
the phone has been modified by the owner who sold it to you. He has changed the software oh the Note2. The Problem is we don't know whether there was any problem in signal for him as well. First check whether the SIM is working fine on any other phone. If it does, then I'm afraid you might have to restore the phone to the original Software to make sure this is not a Hardware issues.

Ed, I'm hoping the links provided to you from other posters has helped. Some of the suggestions have been to try flashing new modems (you're hesitant) and even to install a new ROM. If you have managed to correct your problem, kindly update the thread so other users can benefit from your experience.
If you've had no joy, pursue within the forum for your specific device (AT&T it seems) and good luck!

Hi all and thanks again for the help you have given me. I just got my new sim card today and it seemed to help. I can get on the internet now but my signal is still only one bar and sometimes not there at all. But at least I can connect via wifi. So the sim was partly to blame. Tweeny...I never said that I wouldn't put another radio or modem on my phone, I'm just not too sure about how to do it just yet. I don't want to ruin my phone anymore than it is. I should just dive into it and see what happens. If anyone else has anymore ideas as to why i have poor reception and also I still can't mms, please let me know. Thank you all once again. I will be a regular visitor here and hopefully one day I can be as confident and resourceful as all of you. God bless you all
Hi ed
