It works fine on the nexus, so I would assume it would also work on the desire; assuming this is functionality that sense allows

During a call just select the "back" button till you get to the Home screen. Then you can access anything as usual. If at any time you need to return to the "Call" Screen select the green call button.
This is how it has worked on every ROM I installed on my G1 from 1.5 to the 2.1 based ROM I currently have installed.

thanks for the info. I am looking forward for my android to arrive

nope. in fact, when i place that "test" call (the one your voice is recorded and then you're supposed to hear it) i can't hear anything..
I've tried Fring, Skype's own program, and then finally, Iskoot .
I found that because iskoot for skype actually connects you using your telephone's minutes that it was alot more reliable and better voice quality than a data connection.
I don't think there would be much success with Skype's program over an Edge connection. It 'might' be ok over the WIFI though, except it would probably drain your battery.
Anyone else? Do you consider Skype or Fring's VOIP useable or more of a novelty feature?
I'll probably revisit these again though once I have a 3G phone, and battery life's not as much of an issue.

Text Message Bug WM6.1 and 6 and 5

Hi Guys,
I was wondering, has anyone played with the registry or seen an app that will mute the SMS Ringtones??
I had WM5, WM6, and i currently have WM6.1, if I have a longer sms ringtone, when i receive the ringtone will keep playing, even tho i read the sms and replied....
Is this normal?
Can I somehow Fix it?
Thanks,
Have a Great Day!
How is that a bug ?! Make a shorter ringtone!!! Problem solved!
DUH!!
In this day and age, do we even have to say that anymore?!?
I mean COME ON.
IT is a Bug!
its a bug because how come on other phones, when a txt message arrives, if u press any button, the ringtone immediately stops????
Na its not a bug its how the dash reads the file.
I would really like this "feature" added as well. Or a way to implement it with a registry edit, etc.
I use a very long, beeping sound byte for my text message arrival sound. The reason I do this is for work purposes. I receive pages to my mobile phone. If I receive the page and then start to view the new text, it would be nice if the sound would stop playing automatically.
I realize that this thread has been buried for sometime now, but I recently discovered this problem as well, and wanted to see if anyone has come to any resolution to this (besides the ones that say make it shorter etc etc). A real resolution like a reg edit or something of the sorts. Thanks.
its common sense make it shorter.. jus time it.. um cmon

You obviously missed my posting. I want to be able to hit a button, and make it stop. I realize that making it shorter will fix this, but that's not what I'm after. There is apparantly no fix for it as of yet, and your answer would be the obvious, but again, not what I was looking for. Thanks for not even reading my post.
no problem thats why lm here lol

do you know why when i add guns n' roses - november rain (9:12 long) as my text beep, it plays for 9 [email protected]!#[email protected]

you could just go the htc touch/diamond attchments. im pretty sure theres an mp3 trimmer
LOL, I understand that its not a bug within the Excalibur itself, but any other (as a matter of fact EVERY other) cell phone I have ever come across, (roughly 30 or so) has had that feature. Yes, thats what we'll call it... a FEATURE. Ok, so, let me rephrase my whole posting.....
Has anyone come across any software that will add the FEATURE of making the "file" stop playing by a key press? If so, I would greatly appreciate it... Thanks.
Example:
If im upstairs, and I don't hear the phone, and come back downstairs, then I would love to hear the end of the 3 or 4 minute song thats playing to let me know I received a text message. I'm not going to just go check it every time just because I just came back downstairs. Now if the phone is in my hand, I would love to just be able to push a key and make it stop. That simple.

sure...the feature is called use a smaller file.
Edit. Edit. Edit.
we messin with you.. we kno wat u talkin bout.. like other phones.. wen u wanna read it.. the song will jus stop.. but theres nothin you can do.. its not a bug.. thats jus the way it is.. if u find somethin hit me up
yea man...other phones might...this does not. i offered a tool for you to create and chop files. you dont want it...thats cool man. take care
Ok, good to know we're all on the same page. Thats just it, I don't want to make it all small, its kinda like it was in my example. For that reasoning... Sort of.

[Q] Hanging Up on Call Waiting

If you are on the phone and get a 2nd call on call waiting you can answer it and the phone will automatically put the first call on hold. Say you tell the 2nd caller you will call them back and then want to switch back to 1st call. If you press "End" it hangs up on both callers. If you press "Menu" there is an option to "Hang up all calls" or something similar which again does the same thing I don't want. I can't find a way to just hang up on ONE call. Is this a bug or am I just missing something?
Ok, so no one uses the phone feature of the EVO? No one has ever had a call come though on call waiting?
Can anyone just help me verify whether this problem is just my own or happens for everyone?
Press talk to switch back
You can't hang up on the held caller only

Thanks for the reply. I don't want to hang up on the held caller, but I want to hang up on the active caller. Every other HTC phone I've used in the last 5 years will hang up on the active caller and then switch you back to the held caller. Did they really mean for it to hang up on both at once? Does anyone else's phone do this?
My understanding is that this is some limitation of CDMA. All my sprint/verizon phones have had this same issue.
Every Sprint phone I've had has been this way. I think it is an issue with their network and not the phone itself. There is no way to hang up on just one of the callers.
Thanks everyone. The carrier is the problem then. I was with AT&T before this phone and never had Sprint before. Not a huge fan, but its ok.
That is really annoying because I'm constantly hanging up on my friends when my girlfriend decides to call and tell me some lame story that happened to her.

Ive had where I was done with one call and switched back to thee one that was on hold the whole time just to heat their voice mail giving me options

Can we merge calls at all?

Let me first preface this by saying that I have done a search...
I am coming from Tmobile, and have owned 3 Android phones on that network. I have noticed the flaw on sprint/sense of not being able to hang up on a second call waiting caller. However, I also am very shocked that it seems like you cannot merge two calls. Is there something that I am missing? Is there something either in settings or even a rom that will enable that ability? I really use the conference call ability a lot. thanks
hit the menu softkey
when your on a call and you receive a call or want to make another call just hit the soft menu key at the bottom of your device. then you will get the "phone application menu slide up screen" there you can add another call or if you received another call you can "flash" between calls. once you have both calls and you see the active call light be green while the other call is on hold is light up in orange. if you hit the menu soft key during this process of calls being hold/active you will see a new option in the slide up menu that says "merge calls" with a lane merge sign similar to when your on the highway.
hope this is what your question was in reference to
edit-i believe if you want to hang up on a previous call. just touch the caller and it will hang that call, but will remain on the screen with a red light on it.(uncertain though)

lol hadn't noticed that. I've never had any CW problems with CDMA whatsoever.
I just learned two things at once!

Thanks, but I don't see the merge call feature you are referring too. I am familiar with what you are talking about though.

Ooooh, I see it now, but I guess that this is more if a call waiting issue. When I am on the phone and receive another call I can't merge the calls.

it does for me, here's what happens.
-call comes in
-answer
-second call comes in
-hit answer and it puts the other call on hold
-I hit switch or merge calls
-nothing happens
-I hang up on the second call
-both calls end
Now what is supposed to happen is that my phone rings back with the first call, however this almost never happens and I lose both calls.

Haha this happens to me with all my sprint phones. It happened on my TP, my TP2, and my Evo, so at the very least, it's not an android or Evo problem, it's a CDMA problem. You're not alone.
I feel kinda perplexed when I think of "smartphones" with all their awesome features, but they just can't seem to get the phone part down... ie, iPhone 4 signal issues, CDMA call waiting/merging.. I guess that society is going backwards
Flaws everywhere ...

I agree, I had already all these phones and there is some kind of flaw on all of them. Maybe I will try one of the windows phone 7's. HD7 looks pretty need ... Anyone knows what will be wrong with that? ;-)

Vibrate on connect call

One of the greatest feature in HTC phones for me, was the Vibrate on connect feature. Basically the phone vibrates slightly when the person you are calling answers , if you are not holding the phone to your ear. As long as the screen is turned off the phone does not before as it "thinks" you are holding it at your ear.
Is there any way to enable something like this on the GNexus? I couldn't find an app to for this.
Maybe one of the talented devs around here are interested in doing a mod to enable this function?
Cyanogenmod has this feature. I'm unsure if it is present in cm9 as its still relatively new, but it was definitely in cm7

I would love this! Miss it!
Im sorry for bringing the "old" thread back, but , this is very very importand and usefull to me ..
I cant belive that there is no option for this on GN .. (stock rom)
I need this feather too.
I would love this feature too, was using hTC D2 for a while, and I'm new to Android
This would def. be interested in this feature being available.

I actually did give that one a try earlier today. The vibrate on call end worked for me, but the vibrate on call connect did not work at all (stock ICS). The app has several different "vibration mode settings" to try if it isn't working on your phone, but I had no luck with any of the different settings.
I emailed the developer, so hopefully they get back to me.
i'm missing this feature too!

I had this feature on the OG Droid through the KickBack, which was installed when I switched to a cyanogenmod 7 rom... KickBack says that it's deprecated/included in ICS, but I can't find a setting for this feature anywhere on my GN (4.0.4 stock rooted). I would really love to have this feature back, just so I don't have to stare at my phone until it starts actually dialing.
