According to this Engadget article, it looks like the 8525 will get a WM6 downloadable update.
But I don't think it will be available until the June or July timeframe. And besides, it isn't nearly as fun as the versions available to us here! (And you'll probably have to pay for it! )

Oh WOW. So in three or 4 months we might be able to run WM6 on our 8525's. That's what I'd be saying if the excellent members of this excellent site hadn't already made that available to us in several wonderful flavors! Instead I'll be saying... WM6? Yeah, been using it for MONTHS now. Glad to hear the rest of you finally caught up!
Every spec I look at for the T-Mobile TP2 it says it will have WM6.5 when it drops is that true? I looked at the spec for the other carriers for TP2 and they all say 6.1.
Just need someone who knows these things well to confirm because I read WM6.5 doesn't drop until this fall to around christmas time.

It is WM6.5 Ready...
Most likely you will have to Buy the OS at additional cost.
The good old Orange day's where they did know what service was are over and done since T-Moblie acquired Orange.
But with a HardSPL (hopefully soon) who cares, just flash any ROM you like.
Why do I have to buy the OS if it comes with it?
It will launch (Aug 12th) with 6.1, but once MS releases 6.5 you will be able to upgrade to 6.5. What is unknown is whether T-mo will provide that update or if we are going to have to get the update from HTC. I highly doubt we will have to pay for it either. Kinda like when tmo provided an update to win mo 6.1. it was free.
T-Mobile Netherlands will provide the WM6.5 upgrade for free. It says so in my contract and manual. Too bad T-Mo is always way behind when HTC provides upgrades. On the other hand... i'm not welcoming 6.5 with open arms. I rather have a speedy 6.1 ROM for my Rhodium. 6.5 or HardSPL... i go for the latter.

Is their a release date for the official WM6.5? I saw a video on WM 6.5 where the guy said it will be released around Christmas time.
The guy was doing a demo on what looks like the final version of WM6.5 with the HTC Diamond 2 I think it was. Anyone seen that video? (He had his legs crossed through out the whole video with blue jeans.) Lol

Windows Mobile 6.5 phones officially to be released on October 6th!! If you're thinking what I'm thinking, maybe the rumor of an October release of the TP2 on at&t is true. Yeah it definitely seems AT&T was waiting to launch it with 6.5. That's good for the average user who probably never realizes they can update their phone or how to do that. But of course, frustrating for those of us who would have put a custom rom with 6.5 on it anyway

I think the focus is really on the hardware coming out, there is nothing spectacular about 6.5. Come to think about it, 6.5 has been floating around XDA in all forms since last year. Talk about a lack of innovation.

I think the main focus for MS is competing with Apple to put out a product that is finger friendly and contains an app store. For those of us who have been using 6.5 already for a few months the main focus is on the hardware and whether or not the TP2 will be included in that 10/6 release date. I could care less about 6.5.

Noone knows a thing. Everyone expects the release to be tomorrow. But since some providers are already releasing it today, who knows?
There isn't any hard evidence to say when it's going to come out.

This clarify some things...
I asked htc tech support the 6.5 question. They responded in minutes. That's a response speed I certainly did not expect! Very good, though I'm sure they are fed up answering the same question...
They've advised they are currently dealing with the license packges from microsoft (whatever that means), but no release date was mentioned. Doesn't sound far away though.

The file is named RUU_Rhodium_Orange_FR-B2B_1.19.73.5_Radio_Rhodium_3.45.25.14_Signed_Ship.exe dating October 1st 2009....
Can anyone tell me if it's WM 6.5 ? Or just an update of my 1.19.73.3 (51489) WM6.1 ?

Not possible. I know the Sales Representative for WM Norway. He told me. I have known the release dates for a quite long time now.

Did anyone else wake up this morning to a 6.5 update?
No really, I woke this morning and slapped my TP2 to shut off my alarm to be alarmed myself, I had a Windows Update telling me to upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.5. I pretty much crapped myself at that point, it started off and gave my the orange installation screen, than after a minute or two it gave me an installation failed message.
After that I frantically tried running Windows Update but the connection timed out continuously. Just wondering if I am the only to receive this?
If this happens tomorrow I promise pictures, but was this an isolated incident? Or did everyone else get this via Microsoft?
As much as I want 6.5, I'm in no rush, the internet is on fire with "6.5 sucks" stories. I personally just want TouchFlo3D 2.5, that twitter integration is calling my name.

HTC sure plays spoil sport - with expectations.
(i know they never told they will release the update on 6th, but when a date was announced by microsoft the two companies should have worked together to release the updates for every phone in their list. This is so not good for their PR).
I really dont see how microsoft expects to win the mobile phone war. By the time they come out with WinMO 7, they will again be miles behind, if all they could manage was a shoddy job at winmo 6.5 which apparently has nothing great to talk about - except IE - and who uses it anyway!)
I stuck to winmo all these years, as 5 years ago it was a good business phone and it also supported bberry.
This year i finally split and bought a bberry as there was no update for TP2 coming for months. - again, its a function of marketing - keep customers happy. I know there has never been a promise by htc on integrating bberry software on winmo, yet, after a point, people start expecting.
Somehow these giants just dont get it when it comes to customer service and marketing. Microsoft has definitely lost a customer the day i split and bought a second phone which is a pure bberry. The next upgrade, i will skip winmo entirely and look at the offerings from android and webos...

Yes, i've found it too. After uownloading and unpacking i got a file named "RUU_Rhodium_S_TMO_DE_1.85.111.1_Radio_Rhodium_4.49.25.05_Signed_Ship.exe". With 7zip i've seen, the date of the NBH is 17th of September, don't know which version they used.
But i don't want to have this (i guess) buggy and extremly branded system on my device. I'll wait for an unbranded HTC-release or one from O2(DE), these are nearly unchanged too.

ha...remember Tmobile also said that the TP2 was $279.99...then a couple days later they change their minds to $349.99, And they wouldn't even budge for loyal customerssssssss.

Yea that list states the tp2 european version is eligible for an update but the tmobile touch pro 2 gets its own update from tmobile and so will other carriers according to the rep I spoke with from the htc hotline I really think that the european version update will come out 1st on the htc website before anyone else

Tmobile has allowed updates before with devices like the dash but they have really ignored their winmo customers this time around since they are trying to push forward with android. The last minute price change on the TP2, the lack of training for the device, and overall confusion around the product has really screwed up what would have been a good launch. Now that we have the marketplace this is completely going to change what we can do and it will in time compete with android and apple. Also I have talked to tech support many times and I am an internal employee and I am pretty disgusted with how they are dealing with customers who have bought their most expensive device. On a positive note I am very impressed with XDA developers and hope to see the official release so I can finally get the update this device deserves.
