Check and Download updates from your TP2 - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Android Development

I've been using this project since it started and something that i always problems with was going to different sites to check for updates and having to go on a computer to download them.
So i decided to make a site for people to go and check the updates and download them from their phone. I started working on this today and all the files are being hosted on the sites server, now idk if theres a problem with that but if there is please contact me.
This is the name of the site
Check it out and comment
tp2.mig-tech.com
Credit to all the people working on this project.

Cool.
You know with the lastest cabs it has auto update from within the app?

Yeah, it's pretty easy to auto-update from within the application now.

Ahh i see what ya are talking about, this is actually meant more for the CDMA port since i have a Sprint TP2.

Development?
If you want some site development help, let me know. (SmithFamilyDesigns.com). I love my phone and I love android and since I suck at making roms and whatnot, why not contribute the little ways I know how?!

I kept the website the most basic that i can so it would load faster and the way its designed is better to be looked in a phone preferably a TP2

WM6 for T-Mobile Dash - UI Test Build - BETA

Yes this is the real thing!
I can't believe how long it took for this to get out to the public finally. This is works (so far for over 1 week) great on my T-Mobile Dash. I didn't need to CID unlock it or anything (though i believe I tried application unlock app and that didn't seem to have worked). This is T-Mobile branded so if you have a different carrier there MAY be some modification required for proper function...though I wouldn't really know since I use T-Mobile -
This thing has it all working so far except the T-Zones in WINWAP. It tells you this version of WinWAP is not supported by tmo..if you are testing you are using an unregistered version and you should contact your test lead to get it registered...No biggie because you can access your account info via the new IE browser.
The new IE Browser is quicker and more functional in general. You also get Live! Search for 411 directory (which can dial/add to contacts directly from there!!!!) also Satellite and road map/GPS/directions/traffic... oh yes no bull... It has Windows LIVE! messenger and email integration to your home screen which is still buggy (gives error and you need to change to another home screen). Tmobile Blue home screen works fine...though there is a BETA stamp in the lower right corner (Also a big red UI TEST BUILD notice when you turn on the phone...oh well).
Anyways...I'm sure you've read all about the new features forever and been pissed that a couple of leaks for other version were out but not our beloved Dash. Here it is guys...Oh yes not a virus either.
Just one bit of advice. BE PATIENT DURING THE UPGRADE !!! It may look like it freezes at some points, but trust me it didn't.
File named RUU_Excalibur_TMO_US_1.20.531.1_4.1.13.34_02.79.90_Test.exe and it is 44.7 MB
Since I can't attach it here to the post I am posting the link to a torrent site which I've...yeah...well it's there and it works:
http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/1061423/4574331/
If for some reason the link doesn't work go to the main webpage and search...if you STILL can't find it...you don't need to be upgrading your phone - you'll probably break something lol
fo a second there i thought you had a different beta rom this has already been posted but thanks anyways!
thanks for posting a link, but this has been discussed in this forum for two weeks and there are a few threads that discuss different aspects of this rom. you really should do a little research as you will find fixes for a few of the small bugs you are no doubt experiencing
argh...I searched and didn't see any thread clearly saying there was something for the excalibur...maybe I should have looked closer. Sorry guys, but hey - it's another source to download it from I guess. Hopefully someone finds this useful.
Didn't mean to make it seem like I released something "newer" -
oh well - This site rox

Android Rhodium wiki

I took the liberty to start a wiki for Android on the Rhodium. I dont know everything and this is my first attempt at something like this so please edit anything I screwed up

Cool! Hey I had a spare few minutes at work so I updated and re-organized some things. Go through and check my re-wordings etc to make sure I'm not spreading lies!
I'm not technically geeky enough to help out with development so I figured this is the least I can do. If we keep up with this, it can be very useful. I know the devs are so busy tinkering with things that typing up documentation can be a chore.
Thanks for updating the wiki. I to am not geeky enough
Good idea to start one on XDA. If you need more stuff like FAQs and links for the XDA wiki page, there's the Android on HTC wiki here which has some of that kind of stuff. If you'd like, I'll try to help keep the XDA one maintained with current info whenever I update the one on Android on HTC
The more help the better. I did put a link to your site too
I agree, I know that other wiki was out there...but I think it's good to have it here at XDA.
The more hands on this, the more up to date it will be.
I wanted to chip in, but I don't want to speak for every TP2 owner out there, so I had this morsel of info:
My TP2 (a Tilt2, actually) does NOT need to be plugged in prior to booting Haret to gain charging capability. XDAndroid is able to use the charger no matter what. There's just no orange light.
I was able to verify that in Spare Parts. Not sure if it's JUST the Tilt2, or if it's every TP2 out there.
loving the wiki...thanks and keep up the great work
I added The Front Buttons Keymap layout to the Wiki juts in case people Would like to know
I just want to say thanks to everyone for helping with this. I think this has turned out really well its simple, straight forward and still very informative. Keep up the good work.
also Ive been adding peoples names as they contribute. If Ive added you and you wish to be removed please let me know.
Ive added the CDMA installation instructions to the wiki. If any one sees that i've screwed them up let me know and I'll correct it or feel free to correct it yourself. I do not have a cdma version of the TP2 so this is based on my quick research on the matter

I downloaded the Android Cab file on TIlt 2, n luvn it

I wish all the customs roms that chefs cook up were this easy to do. I was reading on the forum last night about this and came across the cab file version of this install. Its soo easy its pathetic. by the way i have Att Tilt 2 stock rom windows.v.72001a(or somethin) windows mobile 6.5 manilla v.2.1. doing this install made me realize two things. How fast att actually can be at times. this was basically a 90mb. file. I downloaded it with opera mobile 10 on regular service in like 5 mins. Thats pretty fast to me for a phone. i can just imagine if i used opera mini but mini doesnt let store files downloaded to your storage card. which is still cool because cut and paste puts it wherever u want. Second thing i noticed is how much more Informative this forum is. That google android cab is a brilliant piece of work. i dont know how they exactly did it but it works pretty damn good to be not the final version yet. i was skeptical doing this type of modding, since it is complex and looks like your rom being reflashed or something..lol i was like ohhh lord, what i do now..lol but to much surprise, just like the instructions say, it loaded flawlessy, basically. Knowing me, i tried testing all the capabilities of it seeing how far itll let me go. I like the android set up and interface. There are still some things i noticed wasnt working yet. like the wifi. or the keyboard light doesnt come on. it still works though. i havent tried the bluetooth yet. i didnt like that my programs didnt carry over but no biggie since i guess its another format or something the phone is running. Its really cool how the install kicks windows or liniux off and boots up this android rom or whatever. they say its not an emulator or a full blown rom. seems like one to me by how good it works. Also the g sensor needs better way to calibrate. it doesnt rotate really like it should or not fast enough. When u on this though, u are limited to whats on this install. Meaning only using the programs that come on it. Knowing me, i tried going to the app store to see if itll let me download some prgrams. i got all the way to the end pressing download and an error came up on the screen. Maybe its not set up yet in this version to let u add android programs and stuff. which wouldve been insane. But hey, this is free. I definitely have to say how talented the people are that put this together. This is just like running any program really. and when i want go back to windows mobile or touch flo, just soft reset and bam, u back no problems. the first time installing is the longest, not too long though. any time after that, it boots up faster since all folders and whateva were already made. So after soft rest, i can just load it up anytime with the Haret icon just like i would load up Opera Mini. Thats just too cool. Ima fool my friends telling them i got new AnDroid Phone from HTC to mess wit their heads. Im definitely gonna read up alot more on these threads and see if any way to load or download android programs. i wanted the free opera mini 5 one so badly but error came up. force out or something. all in all, Im really liking the setup and the widgets. plus u can change backgrounds with preloaded ones, which seem high quality. just as clear as on tf3d with hdwalls. Sorry for the long post. Just wanted to rant and let any skeptical people with Tilt 2 like mines know this is One Install You definitely want to check out. I still have to test somemore on how far the capabilities go when in android mode. Ill keep ya posted.

thanks for the post demandarin
i too am running the htc tilt2 and am rather new to all of this. so it was great to share your experience and concern. so with this android rom you saw that some things are not working. will you let me know when they get all the kinks worked out? please. i am interested. i have my phone dialed in the way i want it now with all that i have learned here, so i dont want to put anything on that doesnt have all the funtionality. so please if you remember hit me back when it is 110percent. thanks!
Doing this install/mod still enables you to use windows. you can now choose which Operating system. if u tired of windows and want to mess around with Android os, then this enables you to. this is still in developement so of course not every single function wrking. its good enough for now. i can make calls, recieve them, go online, go to android app store and download new android programs. I see what you are saying on not wanting to mess up your phone. the install cant get no easier than for this one. basically a new os/ROM without having to flash device. All i do is press Haret exe., like any other program, and it boots XDAndroid up everytime. im still amazed on having it. soon after enough reading and research, i might flash a rom or 2..lol All info needed is right here in the forum. ill keep ya posted, but this is a working version that u can text and make calls, etc...im glad i downloaded it.

Developers look here! ROM Hosting

Hey all developers
I'v started a small site which i hope will grow fast
I'm offering all developers free hosting for your ROM's on my server.
romn****.info.
I got several developers interested and signed up already and im working on better design at the moment.
It has high speed and unlimited bandwidth and lots of storage.
All developers has unlimited storage so no worries about that.
Any interest?
Send me a pm
ask questions here and let me know what you think of this in this topic??
what about using dropbox?
it's site with 2G free space which easly could be used as exchange box for developers, like for usual users...
nice feature is direct downloading to sd card in android client, so you don't have to download rom with desktop browser and then send it to phone download, reboot to rescue, flash, be happy
try my referral link https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTcwMTc5NDA5 which would add me some space above that 2G for free
I'm just offering a service
Its good speed, lots of storage, not limited as dropbox is.
And i offer own personal website for each developer if they want.
And im trying to have many roms at one place.

Dropbox has issues when you have a lot of people using your public links, which I had through only hosting a little radio ROM.
God knows how they'd cope with me hosting ROMs there. I might upload a few and see
But a good and generous offer from the OP

IPv6 support & ROM torrents?
Getting IPv6 support for your site & creating torrents of ROMs may certainly help you with site performance & creating a niche for yourself.
we are looking into this and we will see what happens
A cautionary note...
If sites like this proposed ROM hosting site do proliferate it will become even more important for all ROM releases to have an MD5 sum posted in a place other than on the ROM hosting site.
It is not beyond imagination that phone software could be maliciously compromised at source. Then where would we all be?
But, to be clear, I cast no aspersions on this particular cove making this current hosting offer.

That is in fact very true, and should be done on all occasions for any ROM release. Passwords get cracked, hosting sites get compromised etc. so it's a good idea
I have an auto md5 script somewhere I use on villainrom.co.uk, and i dont think it was too hard to make. Maybe these should be used more often
I believe the main obstacle is to establish a secure and reliable repository for the ROM checksums. If that will be available, I don't think responsible ROM developers will have problems with using it, one by one - especially if the more popular ROMs will join the effort.
Working with Pulser and should atleast have the function added by the end of the day.

We are currently working on a custom ROM kitchen for most ROMs and will try to add as many ROMs to it as we can, you can add what applications you want and such.

.... meanwhile you've made no response to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=719113#8
Just how are you going to ensure the security and integrity of ROMs entrusted to you? How am I, as a punter, going to know whether your site is to be trusted or if someone on your site, (or from outside even) has tampered with the ROM I'm downloading?
You cannot ignore these issues and just hope they'll go away. Just how are you going to manage the risks? Tell us please!

Had an idea or two, which I am looking into soon
It would be totally external to this site. I am looking into encryption stuff just now
Just my two cents;
On Villainrom.co.uk we already run md5 checks when we push out files, and we sync the mirrors often, and it will check each file when it does. Any files that does not match the one we have locally will be deleted and reuploaded.
For complete control its important that people check the md5sums. This will not only let them know they got the correct rom but also that their download was not corrupted.
One thing we are looking into is a rom downloader. We would distribute a small .exe file that would download the rom from our mirrors and then verify the downloaded file against the sha1/md5 we have on file, before making the file available to the user. This would be optional.
Btw there is an inherent risk in installing custom roms in the first place.
One thing also that would work is to make a updated list in a thread with checksums for current ROMs so its easy to check here.

But you having a script on the backend of your site to allow you to compute and display checksums won't work for me.

And what's to stop the thread being edited? Look, you probably see me as a nuisance just making trouble for you. I assure you I'm not. If you want a workable business to provide income - and I guess that's your motivation for this - you need to think long and hard about security. Maybe Androids are 'safe' right now... but next week or next month? It won't be long before the bad guys are seeking to look over my shoulder when I use my Android to check my bank account or make a flight booking with my credit card. At the moment I 'trust' developers with a track record in this forum and assume that released ROMs are pulled apart and scrutinized by other teams. That aids my security.
With your planned site, a ROM could be released, scrutinized by other developers on release, but a week later altered by someone adding some malevolent code to the ROM. If I can imagine it then someone is probably planning to do it!

I'm pretty sure that one was addressed somewhere. I can't remember where, but I remember seeing that the file was updated since there was a fix shortly after release.
But I'm thinking of something better than just a script on the site. I'm talking about a public-key verifiable list of MD5 sums. Need to look into it a bit more.
But TBH I think a bit much emphasis is being placed on this. I work in IT security, and have to say that whilse caution is always good, really the only way to be safe is to make the ROM yourself, compiled from AOSP, and sift each line of source code manually.
But yeah, all OTA updates ARE md5'd and issued, as mcduck actually made that code
I'm embedding this for releases too soon

Mirror for all gtab kernals, roms, recovery

Update 5/28 noon 30
I am uploading right now, however I never thought that I should create an uploading directory until today. That way if I am uploading files like I am now, someone doesnt start downloading and they get a bad file. So with the exception of what I am doing now, from now on anything I upload will go into a temp dir then I will transfer to its proper place.
I am going to work on an FTP for anon uploading, give me some time, I am concerned about Malware, trojens, and other malicious acts by people on the web, I want this to be a safe place for all Android users to access files for their devices.
I am also considering adding 3-5 more devices to the mirror, but I would need to get the Anon FTP up first, my upload speeds suck so damn bad.
Also, I might just add that Wiki that droid512 suggested, and let whomever has more time and knowledge admin it. 2 kids, broken back, severely damaged arms/hands and being on pain meds ALL the time screws up my ability to jump on the puter and help out.

Update 5/25 11pm
Open directory browsing is enabled for www.blackmugmedia.com/Android/ I figured it would be alot easier to be able to go through the different directories and locate any file you may need.
I am still uploading, my home connection sucks, 768 up.
Right now I am setting up my server hosted on fatcow with a mirror of all gtab roms, kernals, stock recovery, etc. Organized in directories for GSM, cdma, and wifi.
I would like to enable anonymous uploading, however....I am a security freak, so for right now ill upload everything I have for my cdma Verizon tab, then start downloading GSM and wifi files to place on the server.
If you are a Dev and want your project mirrored, send me a pm with a link and ill grab it and upload it.
I will update this post with links to the directories a little later today when I have enough stuff uploaded.
Effective today....these files will stay for the next 3 years.
If I can find a way to allow anonymous uploading and still have high security, I will update this post.
Mods, feel free to sticky if you like

Ok look buddy, all that **** went over my head like a 747. ha ha, yeah. Web stuff, I dont get it.
However...I was going to give Devs FTP accounts like I did for Spacemoose, but I posted it in the "General" section and I dont think it was seen by any devs.
So, tell you what, if you care to, give me a call, help me get what you suggested a go, and mabe make it a little easier? I dunno. All I know is I dont have money I can spare to donate, but I do have 3 years of hosting paid up and my domains attached to the server, so......I figured it would help alot.
Oh, updated OP with links/structure... etc.
Well tbh im not really an expert in hosting. If I want a website I just get a webhost with Cpanel etc then upload the script I want to use/configure/install it.
I wouldnt really know bets place to start on a raw dedicated server or VPS as im more a windows guy and bets software like cpanel etc is linux based afaik.
Do you have any hosting software installed or is it just a raw server with OS? And how much traffic and bandwidth did you get with your 3 year hosting?
Im hosted through Fatcow. Ive had this hosting plan for the past few years, never really used it.
Its Linux, Cpanel, all set up. Really just need to familiarize myself with it again, as I haven't looked at it in 2 years.
Ive done 1 FTP account so far, takes like 2 minutes to do, spent time creating directories for the hosting of roms/kernals/recovery/apps, etc. Just slowly chipping away at uploading what I have, then I will start downloading files from this forum if they still exist, then put them up on the mirror.
Open directory is active now, figured it was the easiest option for people to scroll through.
So, I guess I started something that will probably end up being very big, as once the Tab is all uploaded, then I start on the Droid X, then I'll pick a device to start with. Hell, as far as I am concerned, Ill host a mirror and repository for all Android Devices.
I have unlimited bandwidth and space, I informed Fatcow of my intention, they thought it was cool, said I was ok and I started.
this is awesome man I appreciate it. i vote sticky but i also vote a vzw wiki since theres totally not enough stuff for cdma tabs

I was searching through some of the scripts fatcow offers me, well besides the chat room thing I installed just to make my wife laugh, but a wiki add on, so yeah, its possible if someone wants to admin it I can put it up.
If anyone feels the directory structure should be different than what I came up with, please feel free to jump in and say so. I'm not going to get all butt sore because the world of android users think that my gift could benifit from a better layout.
Also, I think I will indeed instal that wiki page, if a few of you more experienced uber nerds want to admin the wiki, shoot me an email or pm and ill get you set up. I would do it, but my entries would probably be lame, and wrong.

Hey man,
Will you please upload modems i posted to your directory? Is it ok. I am just saying since you never know what free file hosting sites will do to your files. Just look at dropbox latest policy changes
I can certainly put the modems up. I was busy the past 2 days, decided to give Ubuntu 11.04 a spin, and was digging it so much I forgot to do other stuff. So ill get back to making directories and uploading today.
And what do you mean modems you posted to my directory?. Am I not fully awake yet?. I'm confused.
