HTC Desire @ £348 on PAYG - Desire General

Mobilephonesdirect have the Desire for £348 on T-Mobile PAYG.
Quite interested in this as it seems to be the cheapest price for PAYG and seriously undercuts CPW.
Anybody used the company before? Trustworthy?
Sorry, can't post link as I am a new member.
Thanks in advance

So would there be any difference between getting it PAYG on T-Mobile through mobilephonesdirect, and buying it sim-free? Would it be locked to T-Mobile? I thought all phones bought through MPD were unlocked, unbranded?

Thats a good point. Mpd do generally sell unlocked unbranded handsets. Worth finding out.

Reply from MPD:
"If you wanted an unlocked, unbranded HTC Desire then you would have to chose the Sim Free version rather that the PAYG version."
So you can factor in another £15 to unlock it. Still a very good deal though.

carphonewarehouse
you might not get it for now but carphonewarehouse now has them in stock now to order online and you will get it next day and there phones are unlocked to any network and unbranded

Why is the PAYG Price and Sim-Free price different by about £100?
I thought all their phones are Unlocked....Including the desire..
(Unless you pay £100 for the t mob. branding l0l!)

£379.95 at Phones4u - Sim Free

Brother works at P4U (redemption for his sins...), been in today, they will be selling the Desire "Sim Free" so unbranded at £379.95. Just make sure you get the GSM one though, as they are also pricing the branded units the same price if you're buying outright. They won't be in though for another week (if HTC's release dates have been held back)
Just thought I'd let you all know seens places like Expansys and Play are charging what... £420+??
Also, Carphone Warehouse are £420 Sim Free... And they do have them in stock.

Actually it is £399.99 + £10 topup = £410 when you are paying by credit card
and it is £399.99 + £20 topup = £420 when paying by cash.
£348.99
Here's a deal where it's going for £348.99

I e-mailed MPD about this and they said that it comes sim-locked to T-mobile, so you need to add at least another £15 to get it unlocked.

Cheaperst SIM-Free Desire in your country...?

Let's see if we can crowdsource the best prices for a SIM-Free Desire.
In the UK I think the cheapest SIM Free deal is from Clove.co.uk (the dark gray model):
£330 (£387.75 inc sales tax)
€381.95 (€448.79 inc sales tax)
£6 or £8 for shipping to UK
£18 or £22 shipping to Europe
They are out of stock until this Tuesday 4th May (they already sold out of two shipments)
Second cheapest seems to be from play.com at £399 including tax and shipping.
Have you seen cheaper? What about in your country?
BTW: The best Class 6 SD Card deal I found so far was at scan.co.uk. A 16GB class 6 card for £46.98 (£55.20 inc sales tax) - catalog number LN32727 - but it's status is on pre-order at the moment
apparently 3uk have it for £350 on payg...
In Romania you can get as low as 422Euro (VAT included) SIM-Free from online retailer CEL.ro
On contract you can get it at 199Euro and 48E/month, or 229Euro with 32E/month fee at Vodafone that includes unlimited data plan (for 2 years subscription).
In Switzerland, no EU VAT, ~ €347

I can confirm this as I have one in my pocket. In store that is, it's not on their website. It came unlocked and unbranded. HTC are currently supplying them with SIM free Desires, however this may well change at some stage.

Okay - That's >12% cheaper than Clove (after tax & shipping)! 350 is the record cheapest for the UK so far.
Here in Luxembourg it is 409€ unlocked. You can buy it at any LuxGSM Shop.
phonemania.co.uk has second cheapest price for htc desire.... including VAT it costs 385 GBP which includes shipping.... just check it out...
I bought my desire from 3 on payg for £349.99
he hehe i bought mine locked to t-mobile BUT
the handset was meant to cost me £124 + £15pm x 18months however they didnt charge me for the phone at all which means my phone costs £270+ costs of unlocking which are about £15 at t-mobile == £285
Italy: 430 is the most cheap I've seen but out of stock, 440 plus shipping can be found I think. shipping costs in Italy are quote steep, around 10-15 €
by the way is the dark grey model nice?

3 now want you to buy a £20 topup with every purchase which makes this £370 now, not so cheap. (just called them as was going to buy one for the missus).

The guy asked me to buy a £10 top-up, which wasn't an issue as I gave this to my brother and he gave me the £10 back! (He's on 3 PAYG). So mine cost me £350
Even still, if you buy the £10-£20 top-up and throw it away, it's still the cheapest you can pick one up!
If you get stuck I'm sure some one on these boards will give you £10 for a £20 top-up.
I bought mine through Orange France, then promptly debranded and unlocked it.
Here is their absurd pricing scheme...
479€ tax included without contract
379€ tax included with a prepaid sim card -- the thing is you can just chunk or sell the simcard the second you get it, they dont even activate it. Just hand it to you and ring you up at the register.
Why anyone would pay 479 is beyond me

If it's a topup that can be applied to any 3 sim then that is different as don't mind that as can sell it. I thought they would want to use it on the one they give you.

They print you off a top-up voucher code. I imagine this can be applied to any 3 (UK) PAYG sim, however I don't think my brother has used it just yet - he's waiting for his current allocation of internet to expire.
in italy 469€ without contract from bow.it
469 € in Belgium too.
Around 500€ here in Norway.

Galaxy Nexus locked?

many are selling their Galaxy Nexus saying waiting for lock code to unlock etc.. and others are saying its sim-free and unlocked
so who to believe? is it locked for those to took it on contract (o2 , orange , others) or its unlocked just tied up with the contract and can sell it easily to make quick cash?
thanks
Well Im in the UK and got the phone from Phones4u - tied to an Orange tarriff..... but I now have my T-Mobile SIM in it as ive got 6 weeks left before I can actually move my number to Orange.
Works fine
Some are locked. Some aren't.
It seems all O2 phones are locked. Some Three phones but not all of them and that the new contract phones4u are unlocked.
Either way I unlocked my O2 phone for £7 using eBay and it only took a few hours to get the code so it isn't tricky to unlock which is great for those in the US wanting to buy a phone as it would surely be cheaper to buy a locked phone and pay $15 on eBay for an unlock code.
So if have some friends in the UK who can get it for free due an upgrade or using the plan for their own i can make them happy paying them £400 cash per device and they use the service anyway and benefit some cash?
So who wanna be my friend for few devices?
wow no one? hehe i thought i'll be getting tons of PMs regarding the topic
seems i have no option but getting it over ebay overpriced :/

Probably because they wouldn't profit from it at all. If they buy them on contract they still end up paying at least the full price of the phone but as part of an increased monthly cost. When you then offer them £400 they probably end up about £100 out of pocket. Hardly a great deal for them.

Best Price For HTC One X - UK Unlocked

Been looking online and the best price I found for the HTC One X is £450 available at three.co.uk. I'm not sure if that comes unlock. Anyone found it selling anywhere cheaper?
I got a pay as you go from 3 for the same price. It is sim locked, you need to pay extra 15.30 to unlock it. The phone also comes with some bloatware, but they can be disabled.
One good reason to buy pay as you go from the same network is you get better support than using a sim free phone.

Can't believe these are fetching retail money on eBay, just watched one end for £471 + £6 postage, do these people know you can buy them sim free over the counter at carphonewarehouse for £479? some have buy it now prices of £630+......
That t-mobile looks a good buy at £429.99
Three phones come branded so when you boot it, you will get the 3 logo.....buy the phone online and get the unbranded retail
I'm on T-Mobile so this looks like the perfect deal for me.
Hi All
Just to confirm this deal comes with a SIM Free unlocked and unbranded handset.
I contacted the company beforehand to confirm.
http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/Brands/HTC/b509/p120267.aspx
The T-mobile PAYT for £429.99 option is a branded, simlocked handset.
Just spoke to them.
This is what I did - O2 should unlock for free. Yet to find out whether the topcashback tracked...

I'm convinced that some people on eBay have gone mad. They run around manically bidding ridiculous prices for things as if they're addicted to auctions. I bet a few of them are licking the screen with excitement as they do it.
It's not uncommon now to see used items selling on there for more than you can buy them new on Amazon. I don't understand why people are so dumb...

Best deal at the moment I think. If not mistaken they are selling the handset for £450. Give it a week or two again I'm pretty sure prices would fall.

Vodafone PAYG from CPW was NOT locked

During a little ordeal I had yesterday with my Galaxy Ace S5830i, I inadvertently discovered the following:
I bought my handset from the CPW on Vodafone (urrgh) PAYG (a condition of getting it cheaper from CPW, apparently), but I just discovered that the phone itself was NOT locked to vodafone, and came simfree. I dunno if this was a mistake from CPW and they maybe gave me the wrong box, but if you buy yours from CPW then I'd recommend checking it with a different sim before paying someone to unlock it for you, or before you go through the hassle of unlocking it yourself to find you brick it my mistake.
As it turned out, also, vodafone didn't even add the £10 credit to the phone, even after their standard 48hr waiting period, so I complained and got CPW to refund me the ten bucks anyway once they confirmed the sim didn't receive the credit.
So, bye bye vodafone and hello giffgaff with unlimited data.
