New to the TP2 - Can you suggest a ROM - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hello all....
I just picked up a TP2 yesterday.....and i wanna get into tinkering with it.....
i have a g1 with a custom rom, and i also had an htc dash that i installed a rom on.....i know that stock doesnt always give the best performance so i want some suggestions....
basically im looking for a rom that has speed, stability and looks nice....my phones on 6.1 .......so can you guys point me in the right direction?
ohh...and ive notice the screen isnt as responsive on the tp2 as on my g1....i know theyre different (resistive/capacitive) ....can any of the roms improve the screen responsiveness? just askin.....
and thanx again ppl

I've sorted the ROM forum by most views for you, this just means they [probably] have the most downloads, support, and debugging
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=490&daysprune=-1&order=desc&sort=views
There are a lot of tools out there that can change performance, At0mAng d3d driver works nicely. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=546522

i guess ill try out the one with the most views then.....i was messin with the phone and it looks like its still on 6.1......lets see how this goes

good luck! Also, downloading some sort of phone tools and updating your startup programs, auto kills and processes can help with running RAM %s. I use SK Tools and idle WM 6.5 sense 2.5 60%ish

GSM or CDMA rom version
I'm new too to this device.
I'm looking for a rom, then I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=562773
But which is the difference between GSM and CDMA version?
I thought that all HTC Touch 2 devices was CDMA version, as described in specifications in the official page:
http://www.htc.com/www/product/touchpro2/specification.html
Could you help me please?

That's the specifications page for the unbranded (european) version. There are several GSM-only models, mostly for use in the US.

Energy ROMs are my favorites. They look really nice with good features thrown in. Unfortunately, I'm sticking with 6.1 since it's the fastest, most stable, with the most available memory. Need to do a lot of multitasking so the bling bling just wasn't working for me.

So, if I'll decide to install a new unbranded rom, which one I should choose? The CDMA or GSM version? My Rhodium is European version so I suppose the GSM version: that's correct?

This is VERY interesting. Now there is a branded WM6.1 (tim) version on my HTC. But I could consider to leave this rom. Have you done some trustworthy tests for a long time?
Anyway if I decide to update with a new rom, I should use HardSPL. I downloaded this program but my avira antivirus flash up a warning message: can I really trust in HardSPL? Or is there any trojan that I'll could inject inside my Rhodium?

Lets put it this way, if you don't have Hard SPL and you aren't CID unlocked then you will very quickly have a beautiful new shiny Rhodium paper weight.
Hard SPL allows non-carrier specific roms to be loaded... Without it you won't get far...
Had the same problem with my antivirus, you will need to disable it while running Hard SPL, and you will still need to be connected to the net.
As for the Roms, YOU need to read about them then decide whats right for you. Everyone you talk to will recommend a different rom but your circumstances will play a big part in the rom you choose... It doesn't help that every other day a new rom comes out.
Cheers...

Don't get me wrong. 6.5 ROMs work really well, I just had some issues with a particular software that I needed to use in most cases. But 6.1 does have more memory.

T-mobile WM6???
So much for T-Mo in Europe not offering WM6 updates to handsets shipped with WM5 OS originally. This file is good indication for T-Mo customers in Europe. Good news, guys.
now we know where radio 1.50 came from .. 3.60.110 ROM? Newer than 3.54.707.x or 3.57 ROM?
Nice
Nice; really looking forward to this one.
Has anyone tried this one yet?
Anyone tried this as yet?
Hmmm, Junior Member with 10 posts comes up with a new ROM? Interesting, but risky. Does anyone have a spare Hermes around that we can test this on? Has anyone already tested it?

some 1 test it please
im goin to make the developer team at tmo uk look stupid
Ill test it, could do with a new phone... Downloading...
thanks for your time
Could T-Mobile be listening??
Could they be actually listening to their customers???
I have been bombardig them with e-mails about them releasing WM6. Lets hope this is the real thing.

Right, when downloaded and run, it opens up, runs ruu_inside, which restarts the phone into the bootloader. It then runs another installer which goes through the normal update process. It reports upgrading to 3.60.110 so thats looking promising. About ten mins and Ill be able to tell you how fried my Hermes is
Its originally a Vodafone V1605 but now running the IPL2.10Olipro bootloader on Black Satin. The updater didnt complain about image types or versions at all so far.

Rightee, all works fine. Its WM6 but with the old Comm Manager and stuff. Looks ok and its pretty nippy, but not as nice looking as WMBlack. Can anyone recommend anything that will beautify it a bit..?
Here are some screenies...
...and some more...
Looks like a newer build than all other on the forum...could be a new base ROM for the cooks

is there a new ext rom?
i called t-mobile uk and they refused to say anything and they also tried to say that there was no way in the world there is wm6 for the vario 2
they obviously dont know about xda-developers
Of course they are refusing answers, its a test rom - see post #16.
But it is a newer build than the latest HTC roms.

Custom GPS rom for telus

http://rapidshare.com/files/112775037/CustomTelusGPSRomForTouch.zip.html
As always use at your own risk.
write down your MDN and MSID before you start
Removed:
Relaxed security.
HTC Home , because i dont like , its not very useful and takes too much space and memory.
ArcsoftMMS , because it does not work with telus
Alltel customizations.
HTC Cube , ( Left touchflo intact , just cube part is removed)
Some other stuff that i dont remember.
Added:
Jbed java
Opera mini ( has its own icon, removed security warning you get everytime you connect)
Dotfred's task manager
GPS launcher for those who use TomTom etc.
PDC clock
PHM notepad
Pocket Rar.
addes cabs of telus mobile email, google maps, live search, spb mobile shell to my documants. you can install these if you want.
Mini Howto
step 1 Unlock / install bootloader from
ftp://up.ppcgeeks.com/Vogue/Users/ImCoKeMaN/Vogue_unlocker_MFG_2.31.exe
You must follow onscreen instructions very carefully as its very easy to miss something.
step 2
Install Alltel stock rom
http://216.139.227.226/alltel/RUU_V..._NV2.00_PRL30008_0331_Ship_withSpecialNBH.exe
Boot it up after flashing but do not align screen , if you miss that do not let customizations run.
step 3
Install my custom telus rom from
http://rapidshare.com/files/112775037/CustomTelusGPSRomForTouch.zip.html
If your data is not working
You did not follow instructions in step 2. Please repeat step 2 and step 3
I there anyway you could do up a rom that is identical to the rom released with the telus htc touches now but with the GPS support? Ie... still has HTC Home and the cube etc. I like the rom the way it is I just want the GPS support. I emailed Telus and they wouldnt give me an update on when they are releaseing there rom update.
I believe this rom has gps and rev A.
Another cook, welcome to the club. Good luck man
Thank you.
I am not a professional cook.
I like newest stock base with some programs added or removed. Everybody is cooking with wm6.1 that is designed for other devices. So i had to cook for myself. Whatever i cook, I just post it here so that somebody else with similar taste can use it.
BTW its not my first rom, i had cooked some for Titan, i just bought touch and cloned it with titan.
hey i would love to put this rom on my phone. i have never flashed my phone befor so i will be doing some reading. Any suggested threads for flashing my telus touch. also how do i find out my MDN and MSID? i just want gps why can't telus put out an official update now
Edit:Nevermind i found it. will probably be venturing to flash this tonight or over the weekend
Thank you verry much for this rom a1jatt i flashed it on my phone last night with no problem. theire is one thing i noticed that is a little annoying don't know if it's happening to you but the phone dialer keep popping up at random times when i close other applications. Apart from that so far it's better than the stock telus rom.
i have a question. I wondering if when telus comes out with the official rom upgrade will i be able to upgrade to it with no issues(assuming they are activating gps and have a 3.xx radio version) also will this re-lock my phone.

There is some information on ppcgeeks.com .. you can flash back to .40 spl / unlocker and then flash oem rom, that will overwrite most of the stuff. but right now its advised not to do so but seems like they are working on it.
Even if telus comes with new ROM i think its best to keep it unlocked. I think its safer that way.
thank you for your reply. Could i get the latest version of this rom. i absolutly love it. it works much better than the stock rom
You got a PM.
great thank you again for this rom

Upgrading O2 XDA Ignito - Problems sorted

Sorry to bother you, I'm sure this info is somewhere (or if I understood it a bit better), but if someone could clear a few things up:
1) Have downloaded Hard-SPL 1.23, 1.34 and the latest version - is the newer better/more stable? Or I do have to use the one that matches the ROM I am flashing to?
2) If I want to do a cooked a ROM, will any of the versions of Hard-SPL listed above work for that too?
3) Is there an easy way to back up operator settings (internet, voice mail number etc?) Just got it so there's nothing else on it that needs backing up.
4) Offical ROMs are in .exe format, can I just install them on to my XDA?
Edit: Found the official ROMs, just required looking through several pages (sorry). Can anyone answer the other questions, especially how to back-up network settings.
For the mo I just want to get rid of the O2 branding.
Thanks for your time - have been a mod on several forums and I know you end up having to answer questions 20 times over.
Cheers,
Joe
Regarding Hard SPL, read here fully and carefully. It will tell you all you need to know.
With regards to ROMs, you could use the official ones but you will find AZTOR ROMs far superior. (AZTOR = Alpha Zero Tweaked Official ROM) or alternatively Shaks.P ROM in my signature which is set up for the UK. Both will automatically detect your network and use the correct settings and both are as stable as the original ROMs but with improved performance
I have a UK o2 xda ignito, and the only hard spl I have used is 1.93 from this thread.

Most of the modded roms can be flashed with the included utilities. But most of the official 2.03 roms can only be flashed from internal storage.
Any info you need can be found with the search function, with a little time.
All the best.

Responding To Questions:
1) It doesn't have to match your original SPL...if the one you have downloaded works then use it. Very few chefs recommend a specific Hard SPL with there ROM. But this is so rare.
2) if you want to flash a unsigned ROM then you need a developers edition Hards SPL.....or jocky's works as well....I personally use 1.93 so I recommend that one.
3) don't worry about backing up operators settings.....most of these roms come with a "Connection Setup" which allows you to select from a list of operators and it does everything for you. I also have a little app for this if your rom doesn't have this.
@Everyone: thanks for your help.
Will install the 1.93 Developers HSPL and see how that goes.
Can anyone recommend a ROM (don't want any visual tweaks)?
Thanks again

This is out of the respect of the chefs who work hard. Please refrain from this topic regarding best roms, etc.

I understand people have put a lot of hard work in and have taken a look at a few cooked ROMs, and fully intend to start cooking my own when (if) I have learned the skills.
However just got it and it has O2 branding, so i'd like to play with the original interface for a day or two before I start seeing what can really be done with the interface
Yeah, good idea, this will allow you to compare the true difference between a original and a cooked Rom. That is where one can begin to truly see how much better a cooked Rom is.

HELP!! How can i install operating system on my phone? Demo Version finished

Hi, I bought a HTC touch pro 2 phone a couple months back with windows mobile 6.5 on the phone and today i woke up to find that the operating system was some beta version and that it has run out so now the phone is not working. There is no information anywhere what to do.
I have tryed going on the htc site and downloading software but when i put the serial number in it says that it is not suitable
How can i install an operating system that will work or even get this version to work
Any help would be apprecitated
What an incredibly weird problem.
Your best bet* is to go to your carrier's website (rather than HTC's) and download their most current ROM.
Alternatively, you could download one of hundreds of custom ROMs here or on other sites. Just make sure you use a GSM ROM if you have a GSM phone or a CDMA ROM if you have a CDMA phone.
*Many are going to insist that a custom ROM is your best bet. Since you don't seem to be very familiar with these concepts I really think a stock ROM from your carrier is the best place to start in order to get your phone working again.

It sounds like you bought a used phone that someone had put a custom rom on. Ive heard people discuss in the NRG Rom thread that some of the roms previous to April 1st would expire on the first of may. This sounds all too similar.
My advice... flash a new rom. Especially if you DID but the phone used. That's like what is going on. Do some reading in the Rom sub forum and you'll see what I'm talking. find the NRG Rom thread and search "expiration" or something.
Hope this helps some!
Hi, It expired on the 1st may so i guess that might be what the problem is. How can i instal i new rom? and where can i get this information. Do you have any links?
Thanks

[Q] Several TP2's Same WM6.5 ROM?

Hi
First of all I'll apologise if the flavour of this post is similar in nature to a few others but I haven't quite found an exact match for what I need when searching through the other posts and I really need a definitive answer.
The background.....
My company use a third party forms application for passing data between our field service technicians and our office. This application had been specifically designed to be run on Windows Mobile devices. Up until very recently has been perfect for the task.
With the arrival of WP7 and Android in the phone market I have been finding it increasingly difficult to source devices running windows mobile. Those which I am still able to get hold of have varying versions of WM running which presents me with a variety of continuity issues. Providing support over the phone can also be quite challenging due to slight version descrepancies.
Recently one of my suppliers has been able to source me a large number of HTC Touch Pro 2 devices, however they are again running slightly different versions of the OS.
I would like to be able to use a standard WM6.5 ROM accross all the TP2's regardless of the original version or region of the device. I have been in touch with HTC without a great deal of joy. They simply refer me to there download page where invariably I am only able to download and install the ROM which corresponds to the individual device serial number.
Finally the Question.....
If I download a custom WM6.5 ROM can I run it accross all my GSM TP2's and if so then can you point me in the right direction?
Thanks for any help you can give
if these are all unbranded phones i suggest hard spl on all of them, and download a stock rom for one of them extract the .nbh file and flash them all to the same build...easiest way....

Are you really suggesting a stock ROM to this guy over your ROMs?
@Si_UK If you want the stock look without the bloat and with more speed, go with Wild Child's Illuminati ROMs. They retain the functionality of the the stock ROMs, but are tweaked for better performance and stability across the board. These ROMs are a very nice business choice. Like he said, though, you will need to Hard SPL the devices to be able to flash anything other than stock ROMs.
Thanks guys
I managed to download a standard rom from HTC using one of my UK device serial numbers and gave it a try to see if the RUU would work on one of the non UK devices. It did and works fine. I was planning on replicating this now with all the devices to ensure they're all the same.
I am now going to try and Hard SPL a device and use custom ROM as recommended. I like the idea of being able to improve the speed and lose some of the crap.
Fingers crossed as I've not done this before
