[APP] T-Mobile USA Visual Voicemail for QVGA Smartphones [Ripped from Dash 3G] - HTC Excalibur

I saw a Visual Voicemail .cab that was ripped from the (touch screen) T-Mobile HD2's ROM and it got me curious...
I did some googling and found that T-Mobile's official 6.5 upgrade for the Dash 3G (non-touch QVGA, just like our beloved Excalibur) also came with visual voicemail. TMo's update was actually good for something, ha.
I extracted the VVM package from T-Mo's official Dash3G 6.5 ROM and compared those files with the files in the HD2-ripped .cab.
The registry settings and .dll's (down to the MD5 checksum) are the same. The only difference is, of course, the .exe.
Attached are the QVGA non-touch Smartphone vvm.exe from T-Mobile's 6.5 Dash 3G ROM and the .cab from the HD2, which was originally posted in thread #613855 (can't post URLs sorry.)
DIRECTIONS:
Install the .cab, delete /Windows/vvm.exe & replace it with this non-touch vvm.exe, then soft reset (reboot.)
For Visual Voicemail to work, you must have Visual Voicemail on your plan. You have to call 611 (say "tech support") and tell them to add Visual Voicemail (free) to your plan. If they struggle with that, tell them you have a Dash 3G. Others have had success by logging into My T-Mobile, temporarily changing their phones to Dash 3G/Bold 9700/Android, and then adding Visual Voicemail to their services. (You can then change back to a Dash if you'd like.)
ISSUES:
1. Getting CHome plugin to open Visual Voicemail app instead of dialing voicemail (Not sure if that's normal behavior. In any case, opening VVM instead would be the preferred behavior. Registry/dll edit hints?)
2. Dual Voicemail notification icons. It keeps the greyscale/standard one and adds its own colorful icon. See screenshot in post below... I'd like to disable one.
Just my small contribution to the community that's given me so much.

Screenshots
One of the cool features is you can save the voicemails locally as .amr files.

If somebody wants to make a cleaner .cab, here's the EXT package extracted from the ROM in a .zip... Lemme know if you need any other files.
\EXT\Captain\21854\Captain_External_Packages\VVM_1_0_9_RAW1\
Next project: HTC Youtube, much better than Youtube's official app.

This is pretty cool, good job OP!

Hmmm...I would LOVE to use this with my DASH, unfortunately, I don't use T-Mobile voicemail...I have Google Voice.
BUT THIS GIVES ME AN IDEA...
If i have time, I'll try to see if it is possible to make a Visual Voicemail for GoogleVoice! *Now i am off to google like crazy!*

question about this....

ok, I downloaded both files and ran the cab file and then deleted the vmm.exe file and replaced it with the QVGA non-touch screen one. Then changed my phone from a regular Dash to a Dash 3G on the t-mobile site. I then added the free voicemail to my account.
Does it take a while for this service to activate? When I hit the vmm icon it tries to activate the service and I see the little circle thing working and I get a text message with a bunch of gibberish I am not sure what it is... some technical stuff.. The circle thing keeps coming up and eventually says my account has not been upgraded and asks if I want it to upgrade the account.
I say yes but it tries and cannot even access it even though I have the WiFi active... It says I do not have access to Visual Voicemail. Please upgrade your phone... it has an upgrade option that shows up in the bar on the bottom left of the phone I hit that and it tries to go the web site but cannot.. Do you have to have a data plan for this service to work? I just use WiFi and do not have a data plan or want one... please help if able, Thanks!

Did you reboot after installing the cab?
I got a text like that from "129" before I rebooted.

yes I did reboot after installing the cab and what I stated is what happened after I rebooted..

Can you try grabbing "sms_setup.dll" from "EXT package VVM_1_0_9_RAW1.zip" (its inside the "files" folder) and placing it in /Windows
The HD2 cab doesn't seem to include that one, hmm.

In case anybody cares, I figured out what was causing the issue: you need to temporarily disable SMS Bubbles to complete the initial setup. It's intercepting the 129 text before VVM.exe can read it.

Dopod 900 Extended ROM Guide (help would be appreciated!!!)

Alright,
I'm gonna start a guide for Dopod 900 Extended ROM files. I am using a Dopod 900 bought in Singapore. Information has been gathered from various sources.
EXTENDED ROM CAB FILES IN DOPOD 900
CABs that I installed
CAB-Customization-DopodAsiaWWE-<Insert Telco Name>-Universal-01-02-28Sep05.CAB
From the name, and cross-referencing with the O2 Exec ROM, I think this installs the MMS settings for your phone.
Signed_UNI_DopodTW_UAProf.sa.CAB
I think this also configures some MMS setttings/profiles. Can anyone advice me on which CAB files are really needed for MMS?
Signed_DopodAsia_113150_Conn_<Insert Telco Name>.sa.CAB
Signed_Conn_<Insert Telco Name>_113144.sa.CAB
Both are files actually serve the same feature, just that they have different file names. Installs some kind of telco settings. Can someone help with this?
Signed_AudioDriver_Patch.sa.CAB
From the name, I think it's some kind of audio driver patch.
Signed_Disable_ErrorReport.sa.CAB
Installs the feature (under settings) to disable error reporting. Useful.
Signed_SSD_Shortcut_WWE.sa.CAB
Installs SIM Manager and Enroller. Not necessary if you don't use these programs (but I think most people do).
Signed_STK_Service_318.sa.CAB
No idea what this does. Help would be appreciated!
Signed_Version.sa.CAB
Allows one to view the Extended ROM version. Not necessary if you don't want this feature (but I think most people do).
UPdate4.CAB
Absolutely no idea what it does. Help would be appreciated!
CABs that I did NOT install
Signed_UNI_AutoConfig_21100.sa.CAB
Installs the AutoConfig feature (under settings). Not necessary if you only use one telco (which applies to most people).
Signed_DopodAsia_113183_RemoveConn.sa.CAB
Removes the telco settings applied by the Autoconfig program I mentioned above.
Signed_DopodAsia_113173_Cuss_v32_non_CHAP.sa.CAB
Signed_DopodAsia_113173_Cuss_v110_tr_PAP.sa.CAB
No idea!!! Can anyone please help in identifying this? I think they're related to the telco settings...
CAB-Shortcut-Dopod-Asia-31Aug05.CAB
Installs MIDlet Manager and Clearvue PDF reader. Not necessary if you don't use those programs.
Enable_VT_RTPlugin_0727_2_signed.CAB
Installs Video Call function and Phone Skin Plug-in. Not necessary unless you have 3G and make video calls. Read that it takes up quite a lot of system resources too.
Signed_cvc-ppc-dpd-900-usa.CAB
Installs the Cyberon Voice Commander programme. Not necessary unless you use voice recognition/commands.
Signed_pIE_Favorite113144.sa.CAB
From the name, I think it installs some Pocket IE favourites. Not necessary.
Signed_Portal_113144.sa.CAB
From the name, I think it configures the Pocket IE default homepage. Not necessary.
Signed_UNI_pIE_View(Default).sa.CAB
Modifies some Pocket IE settings. What exactly... I have no idea. I used a custom CAB file instead - see below sections.
universal_stream_singtel_eng_signed.CAB
Installs a media streaming program/function from Singtel (a Singapore telco). Not necessary if you don't use it.
USEFUL EXTENDED ROM FILES FROM OTHER HTC UNIVERSAL DEVICES
Signed_UNI_Remove_BatteryIcon.sa.CAB
Removes the battery icon from the home screen. We all have better battery monitoring programs around.
Signed_SSD_BTUR_Patch_For_BT_Cannot_Initial.sa.CAB
Fixes some BT Headset bug.
Default_Signed_UNI_PictureEnhancement_reg.sa.CAB
Enables tap-hold "Save As..." in Pocket IE. Useful.
USEFUL UNSIGNED CAB FILES
Default_Signed_DisableSecurity.CAB
Allows unsigned CABs to be installed.
Default_Unsigned_Customized_pIE_View.sa.CAB
Credit goes to BeyondTech for this. It "change search engine to Google, smallest text setting, default layout, makefit". Useful.
Default_Unsigned_Cache_Tweaks.sa.cab
Credit goes to BeyondTech for this. Further modified it to tweak Glyph Cache = 16MB, Font Cache = 4MB, File Cache = 4MB and disable Start Menu animation.
Default_Unsigned_Customized_OwnerInformation.cab
Credit goes to BeyondTech for this. It customes owner information, device name and descripion, bluetooth name, etc.
Default_Unsigned_Customized_pIE_Key.sa.CAB
Credit goes to BeyondTech for this. Add blank page for Pocket IE key (just loads IE not attempt to open a particular page with it)
Default_Unsigned_Enable_ClearType.sa.cab
Credit goes to BeyondTech for this. Enable ClearType and Landscape ClearType.

Hi Rommie2k6,
Not sure about other cab files but one thing is certain. If you can configure the settings of MMS/GPRS manually then you can remove auto config and SingTel-related cab files. I configure my QTEK 9000 for SingTel manually, hence, there's no need of any SingTel-related cab files.
Similarly for some of the registry tweaks. You can edit the registry manually and so no need of cab files.
I don't understand why you want to do away with video call. In the first place if you do not want video call then you should not have selected this Dopod 900. One of the reasons people remove video call feature is because their country or the area they're living in do not have 3G. If you're a SingTel subscriber the video call and voice call rates are the same for the moment.

Don't suppose you can enlighten me on how to configure my own MMS settings? I'm using Starhub btw...
As for video calls, I never liked the idea nor have the need for it. I bought the Dopod 900 for other reasons. 3G functionality is just extra.
RE
Bro,
I'm a Singtel user. Configuration like servers, ports and addresses etc will be different, however, the principles apply. If you can configure manually then you can remove StarHub-related cab files
StarHub & 3G... hmmmmm......not sure of its pricings
Why don't you do one thing? Can you call StarHub tech support to ask them to go through with you step-by-step for manual settings? Record the steps especially servers, ports and addresses. Re-post here if you've further problem

Official FAQ...
Q: How do I install it.
A: The self extracting archive will run the RUU after it extracts all files. I used The XDA RUU which was modified to push the Des Bootloader to your device. This Installer does not require your device to be SuperCID and should work with all bootloader versions. This installer only has a HTC Splash Screen and the OS, No radio or Ext_ROM.
Q: When I try to flash this Rom I get "Error 260: Update Error" why can't I flash this?
A: Remove you Security Pin,
Q: Will WMXL (Windows Mobile XDA Live) fix my corrupted radio bootloader or otherwise bricked Hermes?
A: If the other tools here can't do it then don't bet the farm on WMXL doing it. The Flashing tools are still the same, no magic pill here.
Q: If I upgrade to WMXL can I downgrade to an official Rom from my carrier?
A: Of course you can. WMXL DOES NOT HAVE A RADIO ROM so your Radio & Radio BootLoader are not touched. If you are not SuperCID you can use a Rom from your carrier to downgrade or you can use SSPL.
Q: What will happen to my Extended Rom when I flash WMXL?
A: Nothing. There is no Extended Rom included.
Q: Can you make it in German/French/Italian/Klingon for me?
A: The short answer is NO. I'm focusing on the OS, changing languages and localization are not something I want the delve into. Any replacement keyboard program for WM5 ought to work in WM6, best I can say is try what you're currently using the worst that will happen is you'll lose a few hours of time and maybe have to hard reset. For OS localization to a different language I'm sure some of the WM5 techniques will work but WM6 has different support for OS Language. Personally I'd either wait until MS releases Language Packs or someone takes an interest and figures this out so we can localize at hard reset.
Q: Kyphur you are such a Guru, how can I be like you?
A: Remember that my head is in the clouds on this one only because I'm standing on the shoulders' of giants. This project owes it's very existence to many other contributers here and they deserve as much if not more of the cudos than I do. The is a team effort, please support everyone who made this possible. (See my post here). I have been a member her for only 15 months give or take but I have spent more time reading than doing or posting.
Q: Can you release Cab file updates instead of cooking new Roms to flash?
A: I will do both. For example there were WMXL Update Cabs for Internet Calling and Windows Live! Mobile (for example). Some of these features will get embedded into the next release. I'm doing this to save you from having to flash you device as often as I am. Remember the Cab files will consume Program Memory whereas the new Rom releases will not.
Q: If you embed a program into the Rom how can I remove it (to save memory).
A: You can't remove files that are in the Rom. You can remove the Shortcuts to the programs. If you don't want the program simply ignore it and it will not harm you.
Q: Will you still release the scripts?
A: With the sudden release of several "Rom Kitchens" for the Hermes, my scripts are actually the hard way to do things. I will continue to use them as it allows me to easily switch from one Base ROm to another without much extra work. I would recommend that other wanting to cook Rom use one of the Rom Kitchens. Personally I will be experimenting with Olipro's as some of his earlier works have made WMXL possible. After WMXL v0.20 is released I will release a "Clean WM6 Rom" which will make a good base for other Rom Chefs. It will not include any of the additional progroms I embed but will have all of the core stuff (like Office Mobile).
Q: Will you still release a version based on the original Rom (from your unnamed source).
A: WMXL v0.20 uses my original Base Rom. Please note that the Vanilla Rom is derived from the same Base Rom as I have been using. The big difference is that I spent a lot of time sifting through the Rom files sorting what to delete whereas the Vanilla Rom, while good, has had a little too much trimmed off in some areas while junk has been left standing in others. Another difference is that I have changed a few files in WMXL v0.20 so that it can support Cingular's PTT.
Q: Why do my recent programs keep disappearing on every reset?
A: That is StartClean. If you don't want this then simply delete the shortcut from your Startup Folder.
Q: I have more questions...
A: This Thread is for misc duscussions.
...
Credits...
This Rom really is a group effort.
Without pof & team unlocking I never would have even gone looking for the base Rom.
aChef by aklok_hk is doing the heavy lifting.
Sleuth255, ShogunMark, Faria ViJay555, Bepe, Maimach have all been instrumental either directly or indirectly in this project.
Des and the SSPL was another step that got me to this point.
Olipro's RUU Workshop was used to make the installer package.
Of course there are all of the guys who have been doing this before I bought my first PPC Phone, they blazed the trail I simply walk behind them.
baudy2 for the OS version edit, wpbear for the Stand-alone Cyberon Voice Dialer CAB, coeptum for the regedit to fix the E/G indicator, schriss for pointing out that WM6 used an older Video Driver, shafez for providing the MSN Files.
Of course there is my team of beta testers.
Finally, I can't forget my unnamed source. They took a big change passing this along to me. Even though this relase is built on the Vanilla Rom, without that trust I wouldn't have been able to spend that previous week cooking with a WM6 Rom Image.
If I missed someone I apologize, just PM me and I'll update the list.

Thanks Kyphur and the TEAM for this great release,
As I asked before, Is there a need for a direct mirror link?
So far so good, except GPRS....
Breaks every 3-4 min and can reconnect only after soft reset.
Thanks a lot again.

Any mirrors are welcome...
I've have GPRS connected since my last flash (about 90 minutes) without dropping the connection. I use HTweakC to Enable CPRS/G3 Auto Attach" and "Set Connection AlwaysOn".

Are you enabling HSDPA?

Thanks also for this release guys.
Installed this looking forward to the BBConnect fix, but hitting an issue. I run v 2.1.2.52 and whilst I can install and run the software, it isn't pulling down email. I notice that the wireless synch box is never ticked when installed, yet despite clicking this - and attempting to force a synch it doesn't work.
Any suggestions??
Thanks in advance....

Only BBConnect v 2.1.2.31 works under this version.
Please be more specific, are you receiving an error? Explain exactly the behavior you are observing.
Also, everyone please post which point version your are running (.0 = no PDF, .1= Adobe Acrobat PDF) when reporting an issue.

[1/31/08] Pandora Naked 8b3 w/Big Storage - WM6.1

After working for 2 days trying to convert the 804 rom to 409, I nearly gave up. But then I saw bepe's thread...
If you like this ROM or tools, please be sure to donate to Bepe, as he provided the base rom and most of the cooking tools.
In my typical fashion, I like a nice and clean rom for a base.
Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
CD OS 5.2.19716 (Build 19716.1.0.0)
Arcsoft MMS 4.2.8.1

Comm Manager Vibe Toggle
Note that the kitchen scripts have been changes so you only run BuildNB.bat, and it does the rest - including compiling the .nbh and running the RUU.

Exactly the same as 6. Only differences are there is an icon for Task Manager in Programs, and of course the new SMS app.
I just took some pics that I'll post in a sec, but except for the About page - it's my typical setup.

Hey Matt, any chance of extracting IE or SMS so we can use it on naked 6 or 7?

It'd be something to try, but I'm not sure when I'll have a chance to play. I really like the features in this new build, and want to nail down all the issues right away - which so far is only optimizing the storage space.
So far 6 is my favorite becaue it was based on an OEM release, but this one is gaining ground quickly
PIE might be as easy as replacing the browser folders in /SYS, but I haven't looked too closely at the actual files /dependencies. Could get ugly really quick because of how integrated it might be.
As for SMS, never looked at the components.
If ya get the storage and prgm space nailed down that would be awesome. Thanks again for your work.
Chris
44 meg with MMS... whooo!
Flashing now - will post results in a few, rom to follow.
Edit: overzelous... still working on it.
Sounds GREAT and I cant wait.
Any idea if anyone has got this rom (any version) working on AT&T?
I have had Schaps 4.40(wm6.1), as well as my own build from Pandora's Kitchen. I am currently editing the OEM/SYS directories to accomodate the OEM Pack from previous kitchen. Slowly but surely its coming. Either way, WM6.1 is nice, even just for the threaded sms built in
Thanks mattk_r, i couldnt believe you got a release out so fast. Keep up the good work!
Sweet im gone for 1 day and I come back to every1 going 6.1 crazy!! So this is big storage and still only 60 hmm

When I go to settings/phone or settings/sounds & notifications/notifications tab, change the settings and click "ok", changes don't take effect and the window won't close. It appears to be a problem with the default ring tones that don't play and won't let you change them

Uploading fix for that now... it has a few extra meg free as well. Only 60 total free, but getting better.
Edit: I just uploaded 8b2. I'm curious how the data connect works, as mine stopped working. Not sure if it's the carrier or the phone...
Edit2: Nevermind the data issue. I spoke too soon. Works fine
What data connection issues did you have? On different builds of WM6.1 I have had an issue with Active Sync disconnecting itself.
Also, why did you remove MMS in 8b2?

Also have T-mobile dash (friends) will 6.1 WM rom work?

Also have T-mobile dash (friends) will 6.1 WM rom work?
Will the tmobile animations still be there after the dash rom install or will it look identical to the HTC?
thanks.
it'll look completely like an HTC...no start-up sounds...no MyFaves program (though if you have myfaves it'll still be active you just have to edit it from the T-mobile website or you can find a cab install of the myfaves program on this forum somewhere...and no OZ IM...u can download that as well.
Ok..as mentioned in the post above, You need to remember one thing about "cooked ROMS".
They DO NOT support any or one Cell phone provider.
That said, EVERYTHING that is linked to a provider, in your case T-Mobile, will be DELETED for good.
there will be nothing tmobile about that phone except the sticker on it and the service..you wont have any of their apps, you wont see the myfavs crap (you can add something similar to it)....but it will be a whole lot better without all that bloatware =)
Thanks for the confirmation. I'm going to flash this later on today and just wanted to check if it was compatible, and it is. Appreciate the info!

[Q] Vito SMS-Chat and ExtremeText Programs / Compatible with Tilt 2 WM 6.5 HTC Sense?

Hi there,
I've recently downloaded both Vito's SMS-Chat and Birdsoft's Extreme Text programs as possible alternative text-messaging clients. I have a Tilt 2 phone running on Windows Mobile 6.5 - with the most recent upgrade provided on the HTC Web site. (My phone runs on HTC Sense, for example.) I'm having a problem with both of these text-messaging programs. Both programs install successfully on my phone, and both programs show sent and received messages that have been initiated by using the default SMS client; however, when using either SMS-Chat or Extreme Text, I am UNABLE TO SEND a text message. In the threaded-messaging windows, they will list the messages that I have written - but the messages don't actually get sent. Are these two programs incompatible with the Tilt 2 phone running on the upgraded WM 6.5 / HTC Sense? Is there anything that I could do to get these programs to work? I find the default HTC Sense messaging client to be slow and cumbersome. Thanks for whatever advice that anyone could provide. I noticed that someone else had posted a question similar to this one - regarding SMS-Chat only - but a solution didn't appear to be listed in that thread. Also, since my question is with regard to both of these text-messaging programs, I decided to begin a new thread. Thanks again.

Why aren't you asking this question on Vito's or Birdsoft's website? This would be a support question for them to answer. Most of us use Arksoft messenger or some other included one from our ROMs. If the program isn't compatible with your device, then they should offer you a refund.
EDIT: After looking at both websites, it appears that SMS Chat is compatible with WM versions 5, 6.0, and 6.1. Extreme Text is listed as compatible with 6.0, 6.1, and 6.5.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I contacted both Vito's and Birdsoft's customer-service departments; I'm just waiting for a response from each. Thanks, too, for taking the time to research the WM versions with which these two programs are compatible.
I tried to install Arcsoft, the program to which you referred. My phone indicated that the program installed successfully; but I cannot see the icon, nor can I find it anywhere in any of the directories. I installed a "security policy lifter" cab, too, which I found mentioned somewhere in this forum. Evidently, that little cab is to be installed before Arcsoft is. Anyway, do you have any ideas why this isn't working for me? If you do and if you have a moment, please pass them along. Thanks again for the response.

If you use a stock ROM, meaning a ROM image that the device came with or an upgrade from your carrier or HTC, then you will need the security policy lifter installed beforehand. This will lift the restrictions on your device for modifying the system files that Arksoft messenger changes. If you are running a custom ROM, then you should not need that cab at all as this change will already be cooked in.
Make sure that you install the WVGA version of the cab file. This is the resolution that the Rhodium (Touch Pro2) uses, which is 480x800.
Arksoft Messenger is meant to replace the default HTC messenger. There should not be any icons or Start Menu links for you to open. The application is meant to stand in the place of HTC Messenger wherever that application would have opened.
The only other thing I can think of is to remove both of those programs and then install sdkcerts. I've attached that file for your reference. Once that installs, soft reset your device and then install Arksoft. If that doesn't work, (keep in mind that it replaces HTC Messenger) then maybe try out a custom ROM or something that has it cooked in already.

Thanks for your thorough response and for the time that you took in compiling this information. I've already done everything that you suggested, though, and I've even contacted Vito's and Extreme Text's support teams... but to no avail. Neither has replied. With regard to Arcsoft Messenger, I tried just as you suggested; but that didn't work. I think, at this point, I should just let it go. Looking for a "cooked" or custom ROM might be a bit beyond my scope of knowledge. I imagine that I'd have to do a hard reset as well - not something that I enjoy! If you could think of anything else, by all means let me know! Otherwise, thanks again for lending your expertise and patience. I appreciate it.

The first flash can be a bit daunting, but it gets easier with time. Hard resets and flashes can be prepared for by the numerous backup applications available. Microsoft Myphone will backup all of your personal information for you. Any programs you have installed from the marketplace can be re-downloaded. Any applications you've installed in any other fashion can be backed up and then reinstalled. Once you get the knack for flashing, it is a simple task to learn how to automate the flashing process so that everything installs and restores itself automatically. Most all current ROMs for the Rhodium will use a different messenger program than the HTC one.
