any help appreciated - Desire General

i managed to buy a desire the day they came out,but unfortunatly it was locked to tmobile.i managed to get it unlocked via htcode, but have not managed to either go on the internet or send mms messages with o2.i have looked through various answers to the question of settings for the desire and some people have said that they have managed to use it successfully.i have tried adding a new apn with the various settings found among these pages but now wonder if tmobile hide a default apn within their software that i cannot see to delete. any help please!

What do you see when you go to:
Menu - Settings - Wireless & Networks - Mobile Networks - Access Point Names
There should be a list of APNs - if so, list them here.
One of them should have a green dot to the right of it - which one?
Zippyioa

originally there were none.now there are 2 both of which i have created o2 uk mms and o2 mobile web (the green dot)

Ok that's a great start....
If you go back to: menu - settings - wireless networks check that Mobile Network is ticked. If it is what does it say below it?

turning on it constantly says that, sometimes connection failed

Can you untick mobile network? If so, try it, wait, then tick it again and see if it connects....
If not your APN settings may be wrong, so go into Mobile Networks - Access Point Names and click on the one for the internet settings.
List them here so I can check they are right.
Also, has this O2 SIM worked on the internet before? If not you may need to call O2 for them to enable it

the sim worked fine on an n95.unticking and reticking makes no difference.the settings i have are as follows
name o2 mobile web
apn mobile.o2.co.uk
proxy not set
port not set
username o2 web
password password
server not set
mmsc not set
mms proxy not set
mms protocol wap 2.0

Ok, they all look ok except one thing. Try editing the username - change it from o2 web to mobileweb and make sure you save changes!
See if that works.
Zippyioa

changed, saved, rebooted nothing, still says turning on under mobile networks

That's no good....
OK, just to make sure we have this right, delete ALL the current settings in the APN menu, then reboot the phone with the O2 SIM in it - this might pick up the settings you need.
If it doesn't, go here: http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html and use the GPRS settings for O2 to add the APN. Once done, save, then reboot and see if that works.
I assume this is a contract SIM, not pay as you go? From memory o2 PAYG wasnt setup for internet in the same way....

yes yes yes i was begining to think i would never see the internet on this phone.i can only say thank you.i went to the site you suggested and entered the settings provided and as if by magic!!!!
thanks again

Persistence always pays off in the end.
Glad its sorted now, enjoy mobile intetnet!

Rogers Canada MMS/SMS/GPRS Settings?
Hi sorry if I sound like a real newbie but I am. I have only used a Blackberry for the last 5 years and nothing else.
I currently have a Blackberry on Rogers in Canada, and will be getting my Dash tomorrow, I will unlock it with imei-check, what else do I need to do in order to have it work like my blackberry, I get my email from a couple pop accounts and my work outlook which does support owa web mail. right now I sync my calendar and contacts with desktop manager.
Is it worth installing BB Connect and just get my emails like on my blackberry or is it better it use the Dash email tools? when using the Dash can I change my reply to address depending on the email account I recieved the email in?
How do I find my rogers settings for MMS/SMS/GPRS??
Thanks for any help! This forum is awesome!

You should be able to point your ActiveSync server to your OWA server at work. Generally that works just like your BBerry if you enable Push Email (under the comm manager on your dash).
Thanks I tried that, but it won't let me sync to the owa server for some reason, most likely my it guys have blocked it.
I installed BB Connect and it wirks for receiving but I can not send it is greyed out.

I've entered all the settings you've listed and have been able to send an MMS, but cannot receive. Any thoughts as to why? It appears that the device won't connect to retrieve any messages.

It appears the problem was with my SIM card the whole time. I can't receive MMS on any phone, Rogers branded or not. Once I put my wife's SIM int he phone, the normal settings I've been trying worked perfectly the first time.
GPRS usage monitor that works?
Can someone tell of any GPRS usage monitor programs that work on the Excalibur?
Never mind.
I found out that Efficasoft makes a special version for the DASh and some other phones here:

efficasoft

I'vwe noticed that even when not having anything coming in, the counter slowly creeps up.
Never mind.
I was reading it wrong. I've only used 1.74Kb.
The other figure was the projected month usage at the current rate.

A little help pretty please

I upgraded to the Rogers wm6 ROM which I grabbed from the rogers website the other day and all was very well until I realized I couldn't browse the web or send/receive MMS. I set everything accordingly to this link: LINK
When I click send/receive on MMS it says "Error Synchronizing" up top and in IE i get "ERROR: The remote party has ended this connection"
I have done everything in my power to fixing this and this is my last resort.
Thanks
just to clairify, are you trying to use this Rom on Tmobile? and if so, with or without T-Zones internet hack?
yes on tmobile and I dont need the net hack for i have the $20 data plan
the link you are following is for the proxy. Here is what I use (this will set up picture messaging too),
Code:
Go to Start > Settings > Connections > GPRS
Create these GPRS profiles:
T-Mobile MMS
Connects to: WAP network
Access point: wap.voicestream.com
T-Mobile Data
Connects to: The Internet
Access point: wap.voicestream.com
PictureMessaging
Connects to: The Internet
Access point: wap.voicestream.com
Delete any profile that is not one you just entered!
Now go to Start > Messaging
Scroll to MMS, while MMS is selected press Menu > Settings > Menu > MMSC Settings
Delete anything in here, then create new profile "PictureMessaging" with following:
Name: PictureMessaging
MMSC URL: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
wap gateway: 216.155.165.50
port: 8080
connect via: wap network
max sending size: 300k
wap version: wap 2.0
Go to Start>Settings>Regional Settings and change the language and locale to US English and change the date and time format to your preference
Go to Start>Settings>GPRS Authentication and verify it is set to PAP
thanks for taking the time and writing that out but it's still not connecting.
i have everything (internet, work, wap connections) set to automatic.
with those setting mine works flawlessly. Wish I had a better answer for you.

o2 mms settings?

Hi All,
I'm having trouble with the mms settings on my Desire...(3g works fine) I've put in the following settings that I found online somewhere but it doesn't work (won't send mms). I'm on o2 simplicity 20 tariff.
Name: o2 MMS Postpay
APN: wap.o2.co.uk
Proxy: (not set)
Port: (not set)
Username: o2wap
Password: password
Server: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
MMSC: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
MMS proxy: 193.113.200.195
MMS port: 8080
MMS protocol: WAP 2.0
MCC: 234
MNC:10
Authentician type: Not set
APN Type: not set
Does anyone on o2 have different settings that work? Or let me know what I'm doing wrong?...thanks!
Try these settings, they should hopefully work: http://forum.o2.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=144262#144262
I am on the same tariff and my MMS works perfectly ..... apart from the resizing issue.
My details are the same as yours apart from :
Server : Not Set
and
APN Type : mms
I also have another APN called O2 MOBILE WEB with these settings :
APN : mobile.o2.co.uk
Proxy : Not Set
Port : Not Set
Username : O2web
Password : password
Server : Not Set
MMSC : Not Set
MMS proxy : Not Set
MMS port : Not Set
MMS Protocol : WAP 2.0
MCC : 234
MNC : 10
Authentication Type : Not Set
APN type : default
HTH
Thanks Mastoid!
Yep the that's the link I got my original settings from...
I'll try out the small changes hot-fuzz recommended too...checked my other APN setting and they were the same.
Don't know where I'm going wrong...I can receive them ok...just trying to send them takes forever and it never gets sent.
Just switching off the phone now...will see if it works and report back...
EDIT: (stupid) question...but do i need to have 3g on for mms to work? Never had to on my other (non-smart) phones but thought these might be different...
Yes, 3G/GPS/EDGE is needed, that's the cellular connection
Do you have 3G in your area?
SMS uses a small data channel on the GSM protocol. This data channel is used to transmit information about the network (like the name, signal, type, etc) and for example connect calls. It was also realised it could be used to send small messages, then SMS was born.
Now, MMS is entirely different. When you get an MMS what actually happens is that you get a special type of SMS that tells your phone that it needs to connect to a server to download a MMS message. Doing so means it opens a data connection through GPRS, EDGE, 3G, HDSPA, or whatever data connection channel is available.
Just to add to this. You dont need to have it ON, you just need to have it available.
I have Mobile Network turned off at home and 3G automatically turns on for the purpose of sending an MMS.
Thanks again for the helpful advice! Seems like I hav to manually turn on 3g for it to send. Will wait and see if the recipient responds...
...still no good, can't send mms settings are exactly as suggested above. Hopefully once o2 release the desire it might help...
found this over on the AV Forums, it's for htc magic but some guy replied that the settings also work with the desire.

Right after far too much messing around I have managed to get the settings to work!!!
This guide is based on a HTC Magic that has been unlocked and rooted and is now running a O2 SIM card.
You will need to set up 2 x APNs on the handset.
First one is for your mobile internet. Remember that if you do not have the unlimited web bolt on then this will start to get very expensive for you! You need to enter this information in. If there is nothing written for a paticular field then just leave it blank.
Mobile Web:
Name: o2
APN: mobile.o2.co.uk
Username: web
Password: web
MCC: 234
MNC: 10
MMS:
Name: MMS
APN: wap.o2.co.uk
Username: o2wap
Password: password
Server: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
MMSC: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
MMS Proxy: 193.113.200.195
MMS Port: 8080
MCC: 243
MNC: 10
Now once these two seperate APN's have been entered and you have made sure you saved them you should see a grey circle next to each one. Click on the MMS circle and it should now have a green light inside it.
Re-Boot the handset.
You should now have mobile internet and MMS capabilities
Just remember that these are the settings that worked for me on my HTC Magic unlocked and used with a O2 SIMplicity card with a unlimited web bolt on. Make sure you have a data package otherwise your phone bills will be massive! If in doubt check with O2 to make sure your not being charged for the data etc. I cannot be held responsible!

I just found those settings on avforums thanks, tried resetting the MCC to 243 and clicked save...but the whole APN was removed/deleted so had to reset it back up using 234 as standard.
Just wanna make sure - is it 234 or 243 that I should be using?
Just wanted to say thanks for the settings!
Was trying to figure this out & found the info very useful
Bloody lack of o2 support lol

Please someone solve my mms problem!

Hi all, I am literally tearing my hair out over this! My Desire HD seems to refuse to receive picture messages, it says downloading then fails.
I am on Orange, have spoke to Orange and have input all the settings they told me to, I can send mms, but seems to have a serious problem receiving them.
Annoying thing is when I was on the phone to Orange they sent me an mms and it worked, come off the phone, my sister tries to mms me and download fails!
Please, has anyone else encountered this? Thanks
Hi & welcome to XDA
Before heading for a straight factory reset, have you been able to send any MMS messages? Is it just pictures you struggle to send & receive?
I am also on Orange, these are my MMS APN settings.

Yes it is just mms I have a problem with, everything else is fine!
And as said I can send them, but not receive!
Two things I can think of...
1. Is Mobile network enabled all time (there is an option in the Mobile network setting page for that)
2. Sometimes for some stupid reason if you are connected to WiFi, the 3g connection will be turned off in Android (to save battery). Try turning off WiFi and see if downloading MMS is successful.
+1. Picture messaging only works with a 3g connection, not wifi.

APN settings for Tesco Mobile

Hi, I'm in Ireland, my Tesco Mobile sim card won't register automatically on the network for data. Would any of the UK or Irish lads have the APN settings for the Swift on Tesco Mobile.
The phone model or brand is not on their website yet for self registration.

Can't post the link to Tescos APN settings, as I don't have enough posts, so just Google "tesco mobile apn settings ireland", it's the first post
Cheers, I tried that, it didn't work. I must have done it wrong, I'll try again tonight when she gets home from work.

Direct from Tesco Mobile website:
From your Android Phone, select the Settings icon . In the settings menu scroll down until you see Mobile networks.
You should now see an option called Access Point Names.
Tesco Mobile recommend you reset to default all listed APN’s, you can do this through the top right section of the Access Point Names dialog box, in the below example click on the MORE button.
When complete you should have 2 NEW APN’s added similar to the picture below. This reset allows you to successfully browse the internet and send MMS messages. If you are still experiencing issues, please follow the details below.
