Hi,
is there any other Camera application or software to take pictures and make video clips, so it could be installed to replace build one in the phone? I'm using Energy ROM 21898.
Thx

there is old camera which shipped with the device... it takes photo and video but it's focus is not that good... you have to hold device really still to take good pictues but it does give you zoom functionality....

I was really disappointed with the camera on the HD, too long to focus and shoot, p1ss poor photo quality for anything other than bright sunlight. I installed my 1st cooked ROM last week (i plumped for StoneHenge) and i'm totally amazed at the difference. It's really quick to focus and shoot and it also takes pretty good pics in low light. Now my HD's camera is actually worth using!

Desire Camera

Any one else find that for a 5 Mega Pixel camera the desire takes some very good shots :O
"I did have a link to flickr here but as i'm new its not permitted "
Only thing is the focus can be a bit rubbish sometimes , like not being able to focus right on small things even very close up any one else find this ?
Takes quite good photos, though pretty much all current phones are the same. Most of them use the same chips, the biggest differences are in the software.
I'm a bit disappointed with the cam... in bright daylight everything is OK, but with low light there is a LOT of image noise.
You won't find a better camera, x01a4, unless you buy a Symbian phone. But you don't want that, do you?

Hi, manually set the "ISO" to 100 that should help with the "noise"
taking the back cover off also gives me a huge improvement whit the sharpness and quality of the photo.

I have the opposite; mine will only take good macro shots and everything else is very blurred. I don't use the camera any more, it's that bad.
Waiting to hear back from HTC...
I find my Desire's camera is shockingly awful.. all pics are dull. It really bothers me a lot since I used to have a c905 and the camera is excellent, no need for a separate camera. The reason I have a modern phone is so I dont have a need for any separate devices but this is something that is really bothering me about the Desire to the point that I might sell it and get a c905 or a Satio.
I'll miss android too much tho
If you want really great pictures go get a compact camera or DSLR it is after all a phone with a camera not a camera with a phone. Hee hee hee.... having said that a lot of phones on the market have cameras which take so so pictures only, not many phones are able to take nice pictures. This is mostly due to the software of the camera not so much the hardware part.

How good is the camera

How would you rate the camera of DHD? Lets say 10 is TOO DAMN GOOD and 1 is VERY BAD.
and how about it if you compare it with Dell streaks camera?
Not good at all. Anything at night will be blurd. Even standing still allowing the camera to fully focus gets you a blurred photo. May have 8mpg but the lens is rubbish therefore you will never have that good of a photo. Video is ok all in all as its 720p.
Camera : 3/10
Video : 8/10

what about the shots in day light? are they good? i don't take much shots at night but in day and some indoors, so how about them?
Daylight shots are, in my view, superb. Low-light shots are pretty bad, as the other guy said earlier. That's true of all camera phones I've owned though...

I use the camera not very often. The quality and easy to use are not very good
Camera: 2/10 (My HD2 take better pictures for sure)
Video: 5/10
I allready send back two DHD for replace.
(with blur problems).
HTC really disappoint me...
Now i will whating for the Galaxy S2 release.
Camera: 6/10
Video (daylight): 9/10
Video (low light): 4/10
The quality highly depends on how much light is available, I've taken some awesome camera shots and some which were really poor. If your buying the phone only for 8mpx camera, don't bother. It's not all about the pixels.

completely agree +1
For me the camera is not that good considering 8mp
I see areas of quality in certain parts of the shot with the rest appearing blurred, and yes the lens has been cleaned with the correct type cloth.
My first pictures made me think about the issue of round lens, square picture, the edges all looked blurred and only the centre was focused.
I have read that altering the default settings from auto make a difference, but not for me, it is only used as an emergency camera.
Video is OK, even 720p, but again, not a perfect device.
But when you remember this is primarily a phone saves having multiple devices
I think is great. There is a guide somewhere here you can use for better results

If your recording in bad light conditions (eg. inside your house) then yep, that's normal...
So has anyone of you compared the pics with those of a streak? It is my 2nd choice after DHD and since DHD's camera is not that good i am cosidering Dell Streak, so anyone who has compared them?

[Q] Picture quality, day and night?

Hey guys/gals,
Just wondering on how the quality of the pictures are with this phone. I've seen pics taken by reviewers, but it's always better to look at it from a user's perspective. Has anybody tried playing around with the camera?
Also, can someone be kind enough to upload some sample pictures of random shots, like daylight shots, night time, and macro shots? I know the camera is supposedly very good, but it'll be nice to actually see a few real samples, especially the night time shots.
bump, anybody? hehe
Actual pics to come, but from my own experience as both a previous user of the Nexus One AND a hobby digital photographer are;
All of this is using the default Camera, default settings (except for turning OFF the shutter sound).
1. The Nitro does a rather good job in low light situations. Opting to raise the ISO more than use Flash. On more than a few occasions where I expected to see flash, it didn't. When blown-up you certainly can see the picture is grainier without the flash, but for web/facebook viewing the results are quite good and a LOT LESS harsh from not using flash.
2. LONG shot-to-shot time! I wonder what the buffer size with the camera is, IF there's even a buffer that comes with it! Because it takes me about 6 seconds between taking one picture before I'm able to take the next. Even when I try using a 3rd party app (Camera Zoom FX) I only got the time down to 3 seconds. Do NOT plan on using this phone's camera for any kid's birthday parties!!
That's all I've got for the moment, will add more when I've done more playing/testing.
Guess I can upload a bunch I took.
A note, some are taken with HDR + and others with Camera Zoom FX.

The photos looks decent for a phone, nothing spectacular, at low light is more like "meh" - an average or slightly above, but when it comes to movies at low light I'd prefer have grain (Atrix 4G / Nitro) rather then ghosting (any other phones). On Nitro and Atrix 4G regardless of the light the picture is smooth 30fps, as opposite to Skyrocket or ANY HTC phone with 5fps and all smugged.
Here are some shots to compare:
Nitro with flash (left), no flash (right):
Atrix 4G with flash (left), no flash (right):
Also note Nitro has much lower lens focal length, which makes it capture wider surroundings. The photos were taking from 4 feet away and Nitro's photos captured much more surroundings then Atrix. Even when you hold both phones side by side the image at Nitro looks at pretty much correct distance, rather then on Atrix it looks like zoomed in. Yet, in low light Atrix's ISO captures much more light.
This is first phone camera that beat Atrix's (IMO). /me very happy with it.
Nice!! thanks guys for the details comparisons. I am liking wat i see with the Nitro. Do any of u guys find the auto focus annoying, or is there an option to do manual focus, like the atrix??
Not sure what manual focus you are talking about, but the camera does allow you to touch to pick the area to focus. Still auto-focus to the region, but better than the normal.

Neither stock nor MIUI camera has manual focus on Atrix...In fact Atrix doesn't allow you pick which part on the picture you want it focus to, it's always at the center.

Better camera app?

Has anyone found a camera app that better utilizes the 13mp camera? It can take some pretty sharp shots but I'd love to find something a little better built.

People say Camera zoom fx is nice. Personally I want the 4.2 camera app ( not the pre release app, the one with the update). If anyone has an apk for it, please post it.

I've used zoomfx the difference between it and the stock camera app are stark. Check the topic on pictures with the 13 MP camera I started a few days back. I posted comparison shots of results between the two apps. It's not even close zoomfx is much better in low light settings, haven't played much with zoomfx with daytime shots, but in good lighting so far about the same I think, but again haven't really played with it much yet.

Thanks guys, I just tried it out and noticed a huge difference in the low light pictures. So much more detail was captured by zoomfx.

Camera quality..?

Hi,
I have/had many Smartphones apart from the P930. Somehow the picture quality of the P930 is the worst. Both picture and video capturing. Is this normal or some problem with my P930?
Cheers,
sb
As i know the camera module was produced by sony and it has good quality. Quality depends from which rom are you using. My point of view is that camera on stock rom (2,3; 4.0; and miui v4) is much better than on custom (i mean CM and Other)
the pictures from the rom in my sig are great, it's based off stock ics but custom kernel etc
warning you need to be unbricked and rooted etc, which isn't easy if you are new at moding phones
I tested all ROMs, also Mattman's and the Stock ROMs. The picture quality is quite bad in my opinion. Also the autofocus is not very good. Do you think this is a bug in my smartphone?
Mine is actually quite nice. In fact, I've submitted a few pictures to a couple contests and placed.

How is your autofocus?
Can you post the samples?
I've got 'prosumer' level photography equipment, so my opinions are jaded. That said, when I first got my Nitro I HATED the camera! It was extremely slow to take a picture and the amount of time it took between taking 1 picture until it could take another seemed like FOREVER. Blur, subpar color rendition...So yeah, I wasn't happy with the camera.
But since putting CM10.1 on, the camera software is LEAPS and BOUNDS better. Shooting speed is MUCH faster, the time between shots is MUCH shorter. The color rendition is much better, the auto-focus works better (click on area to focus)...Even in lower light conditions I get decent shots now. I can easily and wholeheartedly recommend using the CM10.1 camera vs. stock (Well, Stock OS when it first came out, ICS Stock might be worlds better too).
...All of this is at 1.0x zoom. Start using the digital zoom and all bets are off. Grain and blur run rampant the more you zoom.
