Connections Question - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What technically speaking should use less battery power - WiFi or a mobile data connection?

3G should use more power generally as you tend to be much further away from the base station than with WiFi . obviously, than it also depends on the quality of the connection a bad connection will use much more power than a good one for both WiFi and 3G .

Chat disconnecting on mobile data

Hi, I'm having problems with the mobile data connection. It appears to simply disconnect chat services, such as IRC, MSN etc. (apps like Epinephrine, Yaaic, AndChat...) Happens on Sense and AOSP ROMs, it's like the connection falls asleep after a matter of minutes, even seconds sometimes. Is there a way to fix this?

Flash a new Rom, if it works on that new Rom then there is something going on in that Rom. I had a Rom work great for weeks then all the sudden
