"handle programs" repeatedly FC's - what can I do? - Desire General

Hi people!
All of a sudden going into "handle programs" in settings on my HTC Desire force closes com.android.settings. BAM! I've tried rebooting several times, no difference. Even tried uninstalling the last application I installed but it still force closes. Now uninstalling through the market works fine, so it does through the astro program handler, but why does my core settings app all of a sudden crash bigtime?
I've not rooted the device and I don't have much fishy stuff on it, the most fishy thing I guess is the HTC IME modded keyboard from jonasl that adds the microphone button and a milllion other neafty tricks. I'm not sure if this started happening then or later. Any ideas?

I had the same issue. I had been installing ALL sorts. I had to back up what I could and do a factory restore to resolve it.
I hadn't installed the Voice Search workaround yet at that point so it wasn't that. I think I narrowed it down to one of the app killer programs. I uninstalled that and it's been solid since. On top of that I never really gave the phone a chance without it and now I have there was no need for it in the first place.

- So you found it was one SPECIFIC program that when being installed caused this problem? That's what I am gussing too, I just don't know WHICH program.
Did just uninstalling that particular program fix the issue or did you have to do the factory restore to fix it even after uninstalling the offending program?

Locale may cause this behavious, do youhave that installed?

I was smiling when I read this because I was just thinking "could it be locale, that was recently installed", and YES not only is it installed but it's one of the prime suspects, timewise.
It's the beta version that apparently still works here in sweden where there is no pay market. So that program is known to cause this, crap! I'd really prefer keeping it as it's my "don't bother me at night" app. Is it known to cause any other problems or just the fact that the stock progarm handler app FC's?

Well I like I said, I think it could have been that program. My problem was only solved after the restore. I put back everything else but that one app and it's fine.

Ok so I did uninstall locale, nothing changed, I scratched my head, and cursed. Then I also installed the two plugins I had installed for it, namely the battery/charging plugin and the all vols plugin and guess what? TAADAA it works again as expected. Either it was locale in combination with those plugins or one of the plugins themselves.
I don't really care which because I just found "settings profiles" which is everything locale is bundled into one program and as a matter of fact I only need one rule making this free for me, great!
Still don't know which of the plugins or locale or combination caused this but I guess this is a word of caution to others going down a similar road.

i've been getting similar errors and i DID have locale installed but i'vs since uninstalled it and the plugins and it's still broken. :-(

guess I was lucky then, make sure you uninstall ALL plugins for it, for me it related 100% to locale or it's plugin (or both).

[Q] Need urgent help - I believe I have a virus that clones your phone

Hey, well yesterday I got a notification saying "supercharge UR battery". I was pretty sceptical but I clicked on it not realising it would go to a website and apparently that website then downloads and installs something automatically that allows them to clone your contact etc, even your IMEI and they can put your number to go through premium calls to get money out of you.
Either way I need to know how to get rid of this. It's just come up again so I'm presuming it didn't install properly for them or something. It came just after I updated all my apps yesterday but I don't know which one would have caused it.
Do we think a full wipe and reinstall might do it?
:EDIT:
shocker that AVG antivirus didn't find anything. I've been looking through my apps, deleted some I don't use but none of them stand out as being dodgy, I don't even have many.
What makes you think it's cloning your device?
Are you sure it's not just a push notification advert, from something like airpush?
Remove all recent apps that you've installed since you started getting them, and when they stop install them one by one, seeing if they cause the notifications. Check all permissions very carefully.
If you are seriously worried, full wipe and start again but there shouldn't be a need for that.
That sounds slightly unlikely; not that there's malware out there that can do that sort of thing (there is), but that you can acquire it simply by visiting a site and somehow bypassing all the usual application access authorisations. All the instances I've heard of require an app to be installed (and access granted) which then runs off and does all this in the background. So if you could post your source for that it would be a great help.
(As to the "supercharge your battery" ad, I've definitely seen that somewhere recently as well, but I can't think where. In an app, but I'm struggling to think what it could have been. I just ignored it as per any other ad that sneaks past the hosts file).
If you're really worried then a full wipe would get rid of anything actually on your phone, but I'm not yet convinced that's necessary.
Edit: just noticed you said "notification" not "ad". Try downloading something like Airpush Detector from the market; sounds like you've got an app using Airpush to show ads in your notification area. Again, that's not necessarily something to be particularly concerned about (irritating though it is).
Edit2: curses, beaten to it while I was writing all this on my phone. Must learn to be more concise.
//sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk; all errors entirely intentional.
Well I've been going through my apps and there isn't a single one in there that you would ever consider to be dodgy as I just stick to the main ones. I don't bother downloading games or anything like that.
Surely if it's just an ad I'd be able to find said app on the market place, but I can't. In fact google finds nothing for "supercharge UR battery".
I'll try airpush detector. Cheers.
Ok so airpush detector says:
Mysettings
jqsoft.apps.mysettings
Checked out the app on the market and turns out the update added airpush to it. Way to kill your market. I guess they want people to go "pro".
Cheers guys!

MarketPlace issue

Hi,
Its weird that there's no thread and nobody mentioned the market place issue on wp7 for few days ago i wasn't able to download anything now Microsoft have this app. (Refresh marketplace) to solve this issue but it didn't i have followed the step by step guide and it didn't help. now i have done a hard reset to my phone of curse i lost everything now i have installed the refresh marketplace app. again and still nothing .....any ideas guys on this issue?
thanks
I am also facing this trouble for more then a week.......
Searched a lot for solution but in vain......
If anyone had any solution please suggest us too.............
hmm, I had issues a while back but they are not related, I did however get that refresh marketplace app pop up, on my first attempt at installing it my original problem prevented it installing, that's kind of irrelevant though, after I fixed my issue the refresh app appeared once again BUT has since vanished without me installing it.
I wonder if this is an app that 7.8 needs and isn't quite ready for 7.5 or something like that.
I now have the same issue after reactivating my HTC Mozart after some time of not using it. I installed the "Refresh Marketplace" app but marketplace still doesn't work. Right now I'm trying the last hint before hard resetting: Restart, activate data connection and power plug the device for at least 24 hours while keeping the marketplace app open.
hmmm Strange. can it have something with the Windows Live ID problems that was before. some of the Windows Live IDs have also had some errors a while ago. Microsoft has a bunch of stuff to do now with WP 8 and WP 7.8 preparing. i think this is only a little bug which will go away in few days or weeks. but weeks is sometimes to long, i now.

Hi toolsche, did it solved your problem after resetting???
Was playing around with OSBuilder and the 8858 dumps and kept having what sounds like the same issue with every rom I created. Being a noob I figured I was including an unnecessary package or missing a package somewhere. Tried everything including the refresh marketplace app and changing live i.d. What was strange was the "icons" for the apps looked newer or at least different. Wish now I had taken a screenshot.
On my Omnia 7, it was solved with a hard reset.
Hardreseting is actually heart breaking......
Wish if some senior/serious member can suggest workaround....
I know many user are facing same problem....

Simply just like that.....

Unfortunately I had to hard reset my Omnia W to get Marketplace working again.

com.google.process.gapps has stopped

Yes , here it is again but now on the G3 (Verizon). I have done all the many suggested things after googling this message yet it still happens (not always) but pretty regularly at boot up. Anyone else seeing this on their G3?
already done:
rest apps preferences
re-enabled download manager
uninstalled new beta Google play store and reinstalled the stock one
uninstalled swiftkey (just in case)
maybe a few other odds and ends I forgot just now.
Noticed after I installed google keyboard.
I uninstalled it and it works fine. Proper load. I hate this lg keyboard. Come on paranoid android roms
Yeah, I have that google keyboard as well for the new L skin. I wonder why keyboards have this effect. I remember the swiftkey on did this for a while on the G2. Well as long as I know that is causing it I might be able to live with it for now. It's just not knowing which was getting to me.

Fake YouTube app with adware pre-installed on stock US 11S

Hi,
I got this phone recently, and noticed that my chrome browser kept opening up a pop up every time I opened it, often managing to install battery pro app or something similar.
I tried almost all anti malware apps to no avail, and after searching vigorously, I found the source.
It seems the phone came pre installed stock with a rogue YouTube app, which appears as an old version, and which you can't update from the playstore.
Check out the thread below, thats how I good to the bottom of it. You need to root your phone to remove it. I was actually being taken to the same website as the author of the blog, and for him it was YouTube as well, so seems this is common practice among foreign cheap phones.

I had the same problem, and solved it by finding the same site you linked. However I had further problems later, apps installing themselves without asking permission. The trojan also changed the install apps from unknown sources setting. Christ only knows what else it was doing.
The apps that installed were SuperB Cleaner, Super File Manager, Browser, Facebook Updater and others installed automatically.
After running all anti virus to no avail I found this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cleanmaster.security.stubborntrjkiller&hl=en
Which seems to work eventually. However that app interacts strangle with SuperSU, killing it, requiring and update to the binary.
This seems to have found something as well

I'm worried now the phone is permanently compromised without flashing a new rom. And all the US versions seem to have issues.

Samsung Wearable App Crashing?

Hi!.
I've been having this annoying problem with Galaxy Wearable app for the last three days where the app crashes on launch every time. I've been trying to fix it all this time and i have tried different remedies that didn't help at all. I haven't the slightest clue what's wrong and i don't know where to ask for help so i figured i ask for it here first. I'll post a logcat if anyone is willing to help.
Here's what i've tried so far:
1. Cleared cache - Didn't fix the issue
2. Cleared storage - Didn't fix the issue
3. Complete reinstall of the Wearable app and services - Didn't fix the issue
4. Removed the Samsung account - Didn't fix the issue
5. Resetting the watch and setting it back up again - Didn't fix the issue
6. Tried 3 and 5 together - Didn't fix the issue
7. Did a clean install of ROM (Havoc 2.8) - Fixed the issue but it came back in about an hour
9. Rolled back to the previous build of Havoc (2.7) - Same as above, problem came back after some time
10. Dirty flashed 2.8 - Same
11. Restored to 2.8 and uninstalled a bunch of apps that i thought might be clashing with the Wearable app - Didn't fix the issue
ANY help would be much appreciated. I'm starting to think something is wrong with the watch itself.
EDIT: Never mind, i found what's going on. It's Samsung Pay that's making the app crash. I uninstalled it on a whim and now it works!!! Mods, kindly delete this thread.
How much memory your phone got? Try to close all other apps and then try. I have the same behave with other apps on my Moto phone.

Yep had the same exact problem the other day after upgrading to Android 10. There's another thread in here where I found the same issue (it's throwing a java ClassNotFound exception on mine). It's especially nefarious because they sideload the pay plugin so you won't see it if you're uninstalling via the play store, and it's not sorted alphabetically with the other Samsung apps so you might not even see it if you're searching manually.
I say nefarious because depending on how bad the crash is (background task vs UI), they may not be able to even push an automatic fix since they're not using the play store. Seems like a pretty terrible approach to me.

I got 3 gigs and not even half of it being used at idle. And i don't really do memory intensive stuff on my phone anyway. The issue was definitely Samsung Pay. if anyone has this issue where you're running Pie and are rooted with any version of magisk, uninstall Pay. It's been a few days and i haven't had this issue repeat even once.

I just uninstalled Pay from the app list in settings and rebooted. If there is a sneaky sideloaded plugin somewhere, it doesn't seem to be interfering with the Wearables app anymore.
And I guess you're right about this being a terrible approach. But Pay isn't even supported where i currently live so my question is WHY even sideload it on a device being used in an unsupported region... Such a waste of resources.
