Who sent me this text message? - Desire General

It arrived with "Natwest" as the sender, but who is "Natwest"? Yes, I know it's a bank, but why can't I see the number it was sent from? It's not in my contact list. Unlike my older phones I don't seem to be able to get a `properties` view showing sender, date etc. Is this something I need another app for?

Hold your finger on the text, a box pops up with the option to view the message details.

thanks, but that still just showed 'natwest'. Surely it's come from a number?

I dont think this is a device related ... because there are many companies make deals with Mobile Operators to send ad messages to the masses and only show the senderID, they dont even need a number to do that.
i say this because i have done such solution for my company, the messages go to the masses and only senderID (company's name) appears, ... no number needed to do that (from a mobile operator point of view)

You have an account with them and they are making used of this volcano story for a bit of PR!
A friend who has an account with them got the same message.

I had a txt from 'Natwest' today but when I opened it it says it was from one of my FB contacts!! Had it twice now I just delete them...

You've never had a text from just a name before?!

Nope, all mine have just been a number unless in my address book...

nothing to worry about, that's simply how Natwest send out their balance texts when you;ve signed up to their text alerts service through Monilink.
It will show as Natwest on any phone. as has already been said, lots of companies and premium sms services come from just a name now, rather than a number.

I had a similar problem...
When I want to check balance (free minutes, SMS, etc...), i need to send SMS to number 1260, and after that i receive SMS message with usage details.
Problem is, that I receive 2 messages with same content.
One is from number 1260 which is my operator, and other is from my friend on Facebook (strange, he even didn't enter Mobile number on FB Profile).
Because of receiving same message over and over again, I had to delete my FB friend

I don't use the balance alerts - the txt is a public service announcement which I don't want

I got this message too. I have a Natwest account that is never used and has about a fiver in it, and I didn't even know they had my phone number!

Seems as though loads of Natwest customers got that text yesterday..
I have a mate who works for Monilink and he said that they were hammered with queries regarding it!

Text from T-Mobile is listed as from one of my contacts

Anyone else had this problem? Text from T-Mobile is listed as from one of my contacts (and not from T Mobile). I checked the afrementioned contact's details and none alludes to the fact that I have accidentally include 150 into her details etc
lol same here mate.
Think it's a bug and t-mob f*****d up with their OS lol
I had the same, was listed as someone I hardly talk to on Facebook. Just removed the friend and worked itself out.
Same here, pulled someone off FB!
............
Same here, was my nephew from Facebook!!!
Have complained to T-Mobile along with the lack of complimentary movie rentals (imei issues, apparently!!).
Regards
DF
SAME HERE!
I'm not too fussed though ...
Guys
I am assuming that you are getting these problems even after customising the 'View' option of the People widget. Otherwise you can customise the list even further there.
Regards
If you sign-in to Facebook, it will pull your FB contacts and link them with your regular contact book.
Also, you might have an option to save unknown numbers after the call and that's why 150 is appearing in your contacts.
As the saying goes... RTFM
How do I remove ALL my FB contacts I only want the one's that I have Google Contacts for and manually link?
Just happened to me also.
Weird??????
Just happened to me when I got my Flext allowence text but its not an issue with just the tmobile rom, mines a sim free desire from carphone warehouse and still does it so its a bug with the desire, had to delete the facebook contact and it sorted itself out.
Had this also - check the contact that its matching against and see if they've got a wonky phone number on their facebook profile, something with letters in it. Mine had 'ask me' as the phone number and it seemed to match on that.

Same. My contact has ask me as her mobile number ugh.

Unaccounted SMS and Picture messaging.

Something very odd.
Ive signed up to my-tmobile looking over my unbilled usage i can see SMS messages and Picture messages i have not sent. To non UK standard mobile numbers.
Usually starting with 100 or 10.
Is this a software bug? or have i some how infected myself with an android scam app or something?
i will be phoning up tmobile again later but wanted to see if anyone else had this issue.
Nutsy
If I remember correctly they don't actually show the numbers you have contacted, those numbers starting with 100 or 10 are just an alias T-mobile gives to numbers you contact.
Might just be your normal sms and mms then, if you haven't sent any at all then talk to T-mobile.
Well i deffinently didnt sent any picture messages. And it shows the Text messages i did sent as the correct numbers.
So this is making me a little worryed. I have what i thought where safe programs from the app market. Is there anyway of scanning an android phone of melicous software?
If u have handcent sms on your handset make sure auto convert to mms has been unchecked.otherwise it will convert all your long sms text messages to mms.
Nope just using the htc software. i might give tmobile a call again in a bit see what the hells going on. This isnt something i want to keep having to check up every other day for the next 2 years.
So is back to the other question. in case i have some how got a dodgy program running and doing all this is there anyway to scan my phone?
Really was hoping some one else might know whats going on.
no idea i am afraid, but just to make sure it's not some scam app, uninstall everything...
you;ve not been using any of the options in the STK have you? i think it appears in the menu as interactive? cos those are all done by text messages

Apps that send 'Text Info Service' ?!

Well, for the past 3 months I ve been recieving bills £30 over my contract.. not gone over my internet, texts, or calls (used 34minutes, out of my 600!)
However, there seems to be some 'Texts' sent. I dont text any naughty numbers or whatever you want to call it with out getting banned, got better things to do in life. What are they?! Can I just call my Service Provider and ask how they could be sent, when I have clearly not sent anything!?
Any help, is much apprechiated.
So in your bill you have to pay for some expensive SMS which you haven't sent? And what's the number to which those SMS were sent and how expensive and how many? All this should be listed on your detailed bill!
After you've found out the numbers of those SMS, noted on your detailed bill, type them in google and you'll find other 'victims' most probably, too, most often with a solution.

From Vodafone website:
Monthly / Business
This indicates text messages sent to a premium rate number e.g. buying a ringtone, or alert services such as football, horoscopes etc.
To cancel text message services, simply reply by text message with the word STOP.

But what number do I reply to? And, also why should I have to pay for something I don't want, I never used any sites or services such as you mentioned?!
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

[Q] elocity a7 app

I just got my a7 and cannot find the app for sms text messaging. I installed the latest firmwaree
I'm confused. How do you expect to text on something that has nothing but wifi/blue tooth?
The manual says go to messaging icon type in number you want to text to but i cannot find the icon and the specs say it can
There's no way it can natively send/receive sms.
The version that was originally submitted for fcc approval did have gsm but it was removed in the production version.
You've got me interested though, gotta go find my manual. Maybe they just never updated the book after they changed the hardware...
There was an iphone app (cant remember the name right now) that did text messaging through a service. Maybe someone here will pop in with an android equivalent.
Well, now I just feel ripped off. I didn't get a manual. All I got was a folded up "Quick Start Guide", a warranty card, and a pair of headphones.
I got the same thinng you did . I got the manuel at the elocity site. Check it out it seems to be a old verizon but it clearly states that it can.sent a e-mail but no reply34&

It can send email. The question you asked was about sms text though.
On the market, search for an app called TextPlus.
When i tried to create an account it force closed when I clicked the age button, but it can be used without an account.
Can send SMS and receive a reply, pretty sure it cant receive non reply texts though.
Tried Yahoo messenger as well, but the Yahoo SMS feature on it doesn't work for this tablet.

As long as you are on Mango you can do it.
Just press the extreme right button "swap" to jump between FB Chat and Text msgs.
This isn't new...
And you don't even have to go online on chat to send a message to an offline contact...
Simply go to the contact in "People", hit send facebook message, type it, send it. Done
I figured this out a while back, and tested to confirm.

Yes because it will log you in automatically. After that you still stay logged on.
So you still have to be online yourself in order to send and receive fb messages. So its half a step, now hopefully Apollo will finishe what should have been there from day one ...
This is definitely a new feature. Its also special because this is MS showing that they can change things without an update. This is definitely a cool way to bypass carriers for minor changes.
It is new, before it used to say "can't send because recipient is offline"
