[Q] DI2 Worth 2 Year Contract?

So I've been following the D-Inc2 for a few months now, and I'm trying to decide if it is worth re-upping my 2 year contract.
Right now I'm using an Eris (off contract), but I'm looking at the DI2 for more speed, more ram (768MB is better than Motorola's offerings), and better camera, and the fact that it's a world phone.
The DI2 also seems like it has a vibrant development community, especially now with S-OFF, unlike either the Droid Pro or the Droid 3 (my other choices).
The only real drawback of the DI2 that I can see is lack of 4G and possible mediocre reception. However I don't have 4G right now, and there really doesn't seem like there are many phone on the road-map for the rest of the year.
So in your opinions is the D-Inc2 worth the 2 year contract, even considering the lack of 4G??
Are any phones out there truly worth the 2 year contract? That's debatable. But, knowing what I know now, I probably would.
As much as I love this phone, I would have to say no. If I were you, I would wait until a little later this summer to decide. The reason I have this is that I added a line, so I can upgrade again in December. By then, ill want a dual core 4g phone because Verizon seems to be pushing 4g out pretty fast.

If you are waiting for the next best thing, you will never upgrade. The next best thing is always coming soon.
I upgraded from an Eris. So far this phone has been phenomenal. Now that I'm back on CM7 it's substantially better. If you want a 3G phone, this is a very nice one to have. I honestly don't see it being obselete inside of 2 years. CM7 is much more stable on the Inc2 than it was on the Eris, and the improved performance makes it a night and day experience difference.
If you want 4G, then you should understand that this is not a 4G phone.
This is a phone with a single core CPU. Right now there aren't much benefits to having a dual core CPU phone. I can't really say when we'll start seeing Android and Android applications really start taking advantage of multi-core CPU platforms due to how Android was designed to be used.
To me, it was well worth it.
In my opinion it is worth it, if you're looking for a great 3G phone/4G doesn't matter that much to you. I've used the Samsung Droid Charge, and compared speeds (3G/4G with full bars) I didn't see a big difference. And now that we have S-OFF the Inc2 is alot better with CM7! As much as I wanted to get a Droid 3, HTC's phones are amazing in build quality and internals!
So yes, in my opinion it is worth it.
i agree with previous posts. i'd defintiely say that especially with it now being rootable, it is very well worth it. like nimdae said, cm7 is pretty damn stable imo and really does make a night and day difference in performance of the phone.
In my area the 4G speeds are significantly faster. But, to me, it's not worth the excessive battery drain. If I need speed, it's not hard to find a wifi access point. Otherwise, background download ftw.

If you don't need 4g (and the battery drain is definitely significant) then you should definitely get the Inc2. The dev community is starting to pick up support for this rom and even with the ones that have come out in beta, this phone is phenomenal in terms of speed, form factor, battery life, etc.
As mentioned previously, dual core processors are not yet being completely utilized from froyo or gb....maybe ice cream sandwhich but by the time that comes out and the source made available then you'll be close to your next upgrade.
Just my 2 cents.....
The fact that the incredible 2 was the first 2011 generation Verizon phone to get gb shows it is a top tier phone for them. With the bionic coming out any day though I would wait (literally could be this week)

Motorola.. Excuse me whilst I go vomit some..
No. I had T-Mobile w/ that newer Galaxy S phone but wasnt happy with the internet speeds. I decided to switch to Verizon because i heard the internet speeds were better and got the Thunderbolt. Unfortunately, they didnt have 4G in my area yet and then with the poor battery on the Thunderbolt i decided to switch to the Inc 2(at the time the Droid Charge was delayed because of Verizon's 4G outage).
Now, this Inc 2 is a nice phone(even though it wasnt what i wanted), but i notice that the internet speeds arent much different then the T-Mobile phone i had + im now paying $10 more a month. I wish i had just stayed with T-Mobile but regardless, signing a 2 year just for this Inc 2, no i wouldnt choose this as my 1st choice. Id go with the Charge or the Revolution... or wait for a dual-core.
The Dinc2 is the all around best phone Verizon has right now...just my opinion. I actually think Verizon has released some pretty horrible phones since summer and there aren't any 4g phones I would want to buy on a 2 year contract. I dont care about 4g that much anyways. I do care about battery life, speed optimized interface, performance, durability, screen and connectivity...so I got the Dinc2. I don't think anyone is going to want to keep a phone for 2 years, i'll prolly buy one off contract in a year...but who knows, this phone is pretty sweet.
Yeah still love this phone quite a bit and i'm waiting for next year's 4g phones before upgrading in Spring

Looking for a new phone, is the Incredible 2 the one to get?

My girlfriend has a Blackberry Storm and looking to upgrade to a Android phone soon. I took at a look at the Droid Incredible 2 and was impressed. I know the newer phones like Thunderbolt and Charge have 4G but it also eats battery life.
I want to stay between $150 and $200. Any suggestions?
get it. i would definitely say its a worthwhile buy, especially given it has better battery life than the lte phones out. and now with it being rootable, makes it even better phone

Why an Inc1 when you can get an Inc2 for $149?
I had an Epic 4G before switching to the Inc2. Must happier with this, more solid, slicker interface, longer (about 2x) battery life. htc synch works unlike Samsung Kies! Only flaw it is incredibly difficult to root.
My girlfriend has it too, and its a sweet phone, and I don't see any difficulties with rooting as long as you get it and it still has 2.2.1 on it. Then just get AlpharevX and S-off you are, then go ahead and install whatever you like, personally I installed CM7 for her, and it runs great and gets quadrant scores about 700 higher (1500 upto 2200) and that's on stock clocks too, you can overclock easily if you wanna also lol so yeah I'd say go ahead, and enjoy leaving that blackberry behind lol

[q] evo 4g, is it good?

i've been wondering about evo 4g for a week.
I know its a CDMA phone. Is it good? :d can you tell me feedbacks regarding this phone. i wanna sell my Galaxy Y for an Evo 4g.
and how does this CDMA works? can you help me guys?
thanks, please help me decide
im really into this device.
thanks
the evo 4g, is the best phone I've had,I have had it since it came out and I'm not planning on changing it for at least one more year,I have decks 1.3 custom ROM, it gives me 15+ hours and I also like all the customization of the phone and I can tether my internet and all kinds of cool stuff. Is out of production and not getting any new official upgrades but the deva here are awesome. All I can truly say is I love my phone

Even though there are newer phones out and no longer made, it's still considered one of the very best Android phones. Take into account current used prices and they are an incredible deal, even more-so when you consider the number and quality of roms and accessories available.
The evo is a great phone and its been fine for me, but personally I would get the evo 3d or design because you are able to get those for cheaper then I payed for my orginal evo and their stats are slightly better. and they will be getting the ICS update and i just feel as they run smoother, as my poor evo gets older I see her aging a lot and its really not in a good way with all sorts of issues poping up, so I think you are better of just getting one of the newer models, but HTC is certainly a great way to go!
i hope i helped if i did hit that thanks button please!
I wouldn't mind the 3D (disable the 3d), it supposedly has better battery life and it is a little better, but you can get an Evo 4g for about half the cost.
If I was buying again, yes, I would consider the 3D more. At the moment, the 3D (and maybe the Design) is the only phone I would consider replacing my 4g with. Everything else has too many compromises or costs too much. Since I just bought my 4g though, I'm in no hurry to replace it.
THANKS for the replies! i would get it the next Week thanks and looking forward to you guys!! im very excited to have those EVO on my hands ==" darn
I just bought one
I just got one i love it so far I got it on ebay .. Pre set for boost I dont know what carrier ur on or wish to be on
its quite good,
lots of alternative ROM, lots of friendly DEV's here,
and EVO can do almost everything we ask for (for a smartphone)
Before i had my EVO i had an HTC HERO. the day the EVO came out i got rid of my hero and strigt up bought my evo with no upgrade and iv been loving it. no other phone beats this. yeah the phone is old and its DEADED by sprint and HTC, but honestly the only other phone id even consider getting is the EVO 3d or nexus when it comes out.
but overall i never have problems with this phone and i love it. in my opinion i think its the most supported phone on XDA with SO MANY roms and cool mods.
I'd wait for the galaxy note
I have the evo 4g and it was great when i got it new but its starting to show its age. If you are buying it used thats fine but if its with a new contract i'd wait a few months. Sprint is supposedly getting the GAlaxy Note which is much better. one bad thing about the evo 4g is the screen is not too good in sunlight, which can be a problem with turn by turn in the car. Samsung uses superAMOLED displays so its less of an issue. battery life is an issue esp if you overclock, i'd check out amazon for batteries. I just got a Seidio 1750 for $8. much better then stock battery
i got 2 weeks with my evo and everything is going good.... im just waiting for a fully working ics ROM and everything its gonna be perfect.
*probably in a few days
I've had my EVO 4g for 2.5 years now (well broke it twice, thank god for insurance) and I've no need or want for a new phone. I work 8 hours a day, and play pandora on my phone with wifi of course non-stop for the whole day (without charge) and am left with 50% battery when i get off! It's amazing. But of course i use Mazwoz ICS 3.5Beta, Tiatmat 4.1.0sbc Kernel, and a 3500mah battery. But still! Its an awesome phone, tons of dev support. It's fun to put it up against my friends iphone 4s's with speed test and blow them away!
Good luck with your evo 4g man! And check out mazwoz's ICS rom!

Few Questions for S3 owners

Currently looking at the S3 or the EVO right now to change up from my S2 (it's starting to mess up hardware wise) While I love my S2 there were always issues with Samsung radios and being for lack of a better word piss poor signal wise. Just kinda looking for some info oh what you guys think about your S3's and radio signal as well as hardware vs the EVO 4G LTE. I can read reviews all day long but looking for some real word use from actual owners who have been using the phone for a few.
anything helpful would be great I posted this same question over in the EVO forums just looking for some real world use from people. As I said above Samsungs radios have (to me atleast) been piss poor and every HTC I've seen have been better and since I have not LTE currently within the Seattle area I'm not concerned with that part of it cause I don't see Seattle getting it untill sometime next year.

I've heard that the EVO does not have a strong radio but do not have first hand knowledge of this. I can say that the S3 has a lot better radio than the S2. If it didn't I would be using an EVO right now cause the radio on the S2 stinks, especially compared to my old Photon. Speaking of the Motorola Photon, if you are not familiar with Moto devices they typically have some of the best signal strength of any phone. So if I can go from that to the S3 without any issues at all with signal strength than it is pretty decent. May not be as strong, but good enough. Have not had a dropped call yet. BTW...running rooted stock so running a custom rom/kernel might change that.

Well looks like ill be the second commenter to post on regards to ure question.
I cant say on regards for u to choose or which phone is better for u, but in my opinion, from all the battles between the Iphone 5, Evo LTE and SGS3 i had a big choice between does 2, after re-searching looking at specs and performance wize, i came to a conclusion that for me the galaxy s3 was right for me, why? well simply because of the ability to multi-task with ease and almost no constant lag at all. Now both phones throtle alot and i mean alot (It means for ure phone to conserve battery life and prevent it from getting too hot by slowing down the processor speed to a minimum when not in use) ive found the galaxy s3 to be much faster in performance and thansk to the 2 gigs of ram it has its able smooth things out even when its throtling. the HTC althought a very good phone it does tent to spike out and lag most of the time.
My other concern was battery life, and durability, now the HTC being more durable and able to take a better beating then the galaxy s3 and it has a better built u cant change the battery so ure stuck just like the iphone 5 users relying on a charger or getting a expansion pack for ure phone. that was a downside, i would preffer to change my battery and be able to run another 7 to 8 hours on 1 single battery then have it die and not be close to a charger and replace the batery. Since i rooted my phone and added a custom rom, ive average battery life of around 10 to 16 hours depending on what im doing per battery use. HTC has good colors and a better camera then the GS3 but overall not enought color compare to the beautiful colorful screen that the Galaxy s3 brings to u, so vivid and bright..
Touchwis compare to sence, both being good softwares, and coming from a sence phone, i never really like it because u couldnt customize it as much as u can with touchwis, so i decided to stick with touchwis and got my first touchwis phone the epic 4g loved it ever since and im loving my new SGS3 which is much more smoother and better. Hope that helps

[POLL] Are you happy with your decision?

Are you content with what you paid for? The galaxy s3 is an amazing device, but are you happy with it? would you buy it again? just wondering about your thoughts on the device... are you happy with development and roms on the device? Was it worth it?
Yes, and no. I loved my s3 when I 1st got it but after awhile I got bored of it. I picked this phone because of development and ROMs. That's why I didn't bother with the droid dna. Now that I look at the dna forums I wish I could find someone to trade :/

I like it, would rather s3 than s4, because of svdo only working with 4g. I'm overall super happy with the S3.
message brought to you by my GalaxyS3
I picked one up for my wife in December for 50$ I had a Gnex which I was happy with. Most of the people I knew from the OG EPIC4G where here already. I played with my wife's phone for two hours went back to the store and got myself one. I am really happy with its performance, development here here and the fact it just a great piece of hardware.

I would but it again. Several times over. I feel that all other phones are way too overpriced for the random extras they put in.
As someone stated in a thread in general, if you remove all the little software additions the S4 has, you get the S3.
I'm completely happy! Bought me and my wife one on black Friday. I came from HTC evo3d. I'm outta town nightly and don't always have 4g so being able to surf the Web and talk is a huge bonus. I was considering a gs4 till I found out it couldn't do that. The Roms here are great also....not to mention the Devs who help out noobs like me on a daily basis. Finally talked my wife into rooting and now she's on moar and is always showing what she can do. So the answer is yes totally happy. Can't beat two s3s for 80 bucks

I would get it again in a heartbeat . One of the Best Devices out when I got it, and still one of the best out there. It's never disappointed me.
I would buy it over and over... S4 is only slightly better, and we are getting alot of those features (If we haven't already thanks to our great dev community). So why spend the extra $$$? The other thing that makes this phone what it is..happens to be our Devs... We have a talented team of devs floating around here for the S3, they give us all the options and customization features you could really want. No need to seek out another phone after that fact.
I bought my gs3 and sold my evo lte last November and I'm happy with it. I've had one issue with the one I bought and got a replacement and all has been good for 6 months. This is the first phone I've owned that hasn't made me look for another (the grass is greener syndrome). I'm going to keep it until my upgrade which will be just in time for the gs5.
my wife and i each got one the day after thanksgiving for $0.99 each if we renewed our sprint contract. So yeah I'm happy with what i paid for this phone. I love it although i think i may tinker too much with it, i'm constantly switching roms, adding mods, and tweaking it trying to find the perfect experiance for me ( i don't think that is ever going to happen )
I would absolutely buy this phone again. It is my 1st Android device and it has been amazing to learn things on. I've looked around and it seems that this is one of the easiest phones to root and flash ROMs on. Plus the dev support here for this device has been awesome.
Heck Yes ! Got as a gift this past Father's Day ( $50 @ BestBuy ) and we have LOTS of ROMs to choose from ... and like Ed mentioned earlier , most of our buddies from OG EPIC4G land have this phone ( I just happened to be the last straggler to upgrade )
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
Yeah, pretty happy with it. I think it's still a relevant phone, and I'm planning on getting a couple of years out of it.
I'm happy and I would do it again. I only paid 99 cents for this GS3 so I'd say I got my money's worth by the time I turned it on.
I came from the evo3d and I can't think of one area that the 3d beats the GS3. The GS3 battery is way better, the screen is bigger, the screen is brighter, it's smarter, more mem, more ram, better ui, lte, better development, easier to root, I could probably go on.
Only drawback I've noticed about the GS3 is that it seems like there's more of them out there than iPhones,
Yes I am very happy with it, it's handles opened apps very well even tried to keep opening NFS most wanted and some others apps in my phone memory and it's handled it absolutely with no lag and without any redraws.
Only two the biggest minuses that I don't like it's battery and scrolling lag in some apps. So my main problem is not RAM memory but battery it's drains so fast.

No he's not lucky, he's learned to take advantage of XDA and all the information found here. There are lots of tweaks and kernel changes that can extend your battery life. In conjunction with some great apps like Greenify. I average 15 to 16 hrs with 4 to 5 hrs on screen time on a stock battery as well. There are many here who do. You should do a little research you could profit from it.
