From Android to Win 6.5 - Touch CDMA Windows Mobile ROM Development

Hi, I installed android to my touch but now I'd like to go back to window mobile. I haven't been able to figure out how to flash it back to windows... any help?
Thanks

reflash a winmo build.

I'd love to reflash to a winmo build, but i just don't know how.

search. read the wiki's @ the top.
why go back anyway?
Sent from my HERO200 using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk

Long story short. i'm trying android again to see if the newest build has better battery life. the last build couldn't hold a charge long enough to make it worht while as a phone.
The only way i've ever gotten android to get data after being flashed has been to get it working in windows first and then installing android.
i've read and searched for a step by step on how to do this and i just haven't been fruitful.

just download and flash one of the 6.5 builds....there's a very informative guide on how to

The guides that i see want me to establish an active sync connection to flash the device but I have android installed and i cant' establish an active sync connection. I think thats my major hangup. Is there a way to flash it from the memory card?

not that Im aware of.. my have to RUU back to stock and start over.
look here for sprint rom http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Vogue/

That would be just fine too... i still don't know how to do it. When i run the rom update utility it gives me a connection error.
Edit: I realize that i'm being vague. Let me try to fill in the gaps. I am putting my phone into the bootloader mode, hooking it up to my PC via USB and running the Rom update Utility with a custom rom. The phone has been unlocked so it really shouldn't have any trouble..
What am I doing wrong?

Put your phone in Bootloader Mode by pressing the Camera and Power buttons and then the Reset button all at the same time.
Then make sure you have a radio of 3.4x or above... If not Flash back to a new stock Rom and then follow the threads you were just reading.
If you radio is good go and Download one of the ROMS here on this forum.
Happy Flashing!
P.S Please Ask your Questions in the Q and A section of this forum.

Thank you for your patience. Sorry to have been a bother and put this in the wrong place.

How to Flash a Vogue without ActiveSync
How to Flash a Vogue Without ActiveSync
A method so easy my Mother could do it.
Not suggesting there's anything wrong with my mother, just that she's not all that technically oriented.
Here's an easy way to flash your HTC Vogue without using ActiveSync. It would likely be a great method to use if you had many Vogues that all needed to be updated as well. Works great for those not using Windows, as well.
Look around for a Transflash (aka MicroSD) card, one that you can erase, 2GB or less.
Use your Windows machine to make sure it's freshly formatted as FAT32]
Copy the ROM you want to flash to the card.
Rename the file you just copied to VOGUIMG.nbh If you are flashing a different model, you need to be sure you have the right file name for it. I think the pattern is the first 4 letters of the model name with IMG.nbh after it, but if it doesn't work, don't blame me,
Put card in phone.
Enter bootloader mode by holding the CAMERA and POWER buttons, while pressing the RESET button in the little hole in the bottom of the phone. (don't bother to connect it to your computer)
Enjoy a caffinated beverage of your choice, or an alcoholic beverage of your choice, or heck, a nice tall glass of cool water while you wait.
Watch as your phone automagically flashes itself!
Congratulate yourself on a job well done.
This is what I'm going to use from now on for flashing with a Mac or Linux. For those addicted to flashing, you can even take a collection of cards with you. I'm not yet sure if you can have multiple ROMs on one card, and just rename the one you want to flash or not yet, but I'll likely find out soon.
ATTENTION:
Missing any of these will make it NOT WORK:
Card must be normal SD, not SDHC or XDHC. No bigger than 2GB
Card must be formatted with FAT32. They often come formatted FAT16 or plain FAT, and a previously-used card could have just about any format on it -- NTFS. HPFS. HFS+. EXT3 -- Format it right to be sure.
Be sure you have the right name. I've heard that CaSe cOuNtS -- the name above has been cut/pasted from a working reflash card.
There is no #4.
Have fun!

Sounds like you flashed one too many times. The Custom RUU's do not reformat the ROM chip. Flash a Stock ROM like one of the HTC Official Updates. This will have the stock RUU which does format the ROM chip. Then, you can go flash any ROM you like. I had this same problem once on my Kaiser where folders would disappear.

Not that it would occur, but something similar "could" occur. This is why in the Kaiser section they always told you to flash stock/hard reset/flash custom ROM of choice/hard reset. It's not that you need to, but doing so an help prevent weird bugs from showing up like what he explained. It's just like installing Windows on a PC, they always recommend you format the drive on each install or your install could be buggy. For best results you format so the drive is clean & no left over files that can screw with the new install. Plus, low level formating will gain back bad clusters in the hard driver/ROM chip lost during use by data corruption. This format process is disabled in the XDA made Custom*RUU.exe for various reasons. So the more ROM's you flash, the more changes occur on the ROM Chip & the more likely a bug could appear.

Check in the ROM's thread. Also, you may need to clear the PC's sync partnerships. If you have flashed a lot the PC can only handle so many Partners. Each time you flash a new ROM, it creates a new partner as it think's it's a different device.
how do you soft and hard reset the att tilt 2? Had an old tilt and I just got this a few days ago still figuring it out

Soft Reset hole is on the side of the device. It may be under the battery door. The side with the stylus, under the secondary Mic.
Hard Reset is done by holding Send/End/Power & pressing Soft Reset with stylus. Hold the Send/End/Power keys till the Hard Reset message appears onscreen.
This was the first flash I did and after a hard rest still will not sync and nothing in the thread for the rom. I cleared all my partnerships. The phone is connected and I can transfer files to and from my storage card. Do I need to update the device driver on my pc? Any way to get my outlook 2003 contacts on the phone through my storage card or any other way?

If running XP you need ActiveSync 4.5, if running Vista/7 you need Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1. All drivers for the devices come from those programs. Have you tried manually opening Active Sync/device Center to see if it's connecting/seeing the device? Also, make sure there's no setting on the device making it act as a USB Mass Storage drive. Some ROM's give a app or setting to do this as it increases transfer rates for copying files, but it doesn't allow syncing.
I have win mobile device center and know sync. the phone will connect for usb mass storage and I can access the files on my storage card. when I connect my phone it gives me the option of outlook sync or flash drive. I select the outlook sync and the first time my pc said the device was installed successfully but no recognition from mobile device center.

Hum, I'm at a loss, I would post in the ROM's thread to see if anyone else has/had this issue. Maybe it's ROM related?!?!? I'm running ROMeOS without sync issues. Granted I don't sync anything, but when i open device center the device does show up. I always check this, because if the device isn't seen by WMDC, I can't get data connections while connected to USB. I have this problem a lot because I removed WMDC from startup as I don't want an app running in the BG taking up resources when I don't use it.
actually what i did was flash my rom through micro sd because my phone wouldnt load to the home screen so i wasnt able to connect to aactive sync. thank god i got my wife a tp2 also wich i was able to dl the nnhb file on the micro sd card and then just run it from my phone but yes i did flash my rom way too many times during this past weekend id say about t times in a days is there a limit of times you can flash a device per day because i dont want to fry my phone up lol silly me

For future reference, you don't need to flash via SD if you are stuck. Just follow these steps.
1) Power Off
2) Hold down Volume Down button
3) Plug in USB Cable
4) Boot Loader appears onscreen & at button in White space says "USB"
5) Flash ROM via PC as normal.
yea but its not going to be connected to active sync so how do i get the nbh file onto the phone unless i can just run the ruu and it will flash
ok now everytime i try to flash my rom back to the stock one through micro sd it starts the process but then the back light turns off and then the phone stays off and i have to hard reset it can someone help me and when i connect it to the pc it has the bootloader but it says error on the bottom of the screen
do i have to flash my radio back to stock also?
I had the same problem... luckily t-mobile has a buyers remorse program... because I could not get the active sync/WMDC to work either... did you download the wifi cab on another thread? I ask because this is what did it for me? Or maybe a combo of cabs but definately linked to the wifi cab... Gettin a new phone today... if anyone figure this out, make it a sticky!

That is not correct. Lots of devices allow you to flash via SD card, including the BA. The only catch is that in order to prepare a card for flashing, you have to have the BA connected to the computer. There is a series of mtty commands that need to be input in order to get the card to be "bootable" for SD flashing. I will post a procedure I found the other day if there is enough interest.
BTW, ares93... this is not in the wiki...

i would appreciate, if you posted a confirmed way to flash from the sd card, because i am running windows 7 x64 and up to now, i have not managed to flash with it... or vmware, virtual pc xp mode or virtualbox for that matter. i would love to try that. even if it means, preparing the sd card with an xp machine for once, assuming that mtty does not work with 7 either, because of the lack of bootloader support.
and please don't post links on how to flash in windows 7, tried all of them, don't work for me.

if it wasn't in the wiki it's probably the reason i don't know about it.
a guide would be great 'cause i'm quite new to flashing pda's. i could use all the info i get cell's aren't a problem but with pda's there are so damn many variations... btw since you have to connect it to a computer to be able to flash via sd, doesn't it kind of kill the point of doing it that way? its designed quite stupidly don't you think?

Hey Chef,
Follow this link
http://www.mikechannon.net/PDF Manuals/HTC Blue Angel Service Manual.pdf
This is the service manual for the Blue Angel directly from HTC. Towards the end, there is a section that speaks about flashing a rom from SD. The only drawback is that you have to have your device connected to the computer, which kinda beats the whole point of using a SD card. I might take it for a spin just to see if it works.
thanks, i have linked that exact service manual dozens of times for people with hardware issues, but i've never actually read it, because i never had to open my device. i didn't even know there was information like that in there thank you, i will definetely give it a try, as soon as there is a new rom.
upgrade from SD card
Hi.
Well I read this forum since I have a Blue Angle but no cable. So basicaly I cannot connect it to the computer. I was thinking if somebody can prepare an SD card for upgrade than make an image out of it and share it, than maybe this will sort the threader problem. (And my too).
Thank you.

How to revert back to WM after flashing Android to NAND?

Hello everyone. I haven't flashed Android to NAND yet but I'd like to try it.
I am sure this question has been asked before but I did try the search and I couldn't find it. Sorry if this has already been asked.
So, for the Kaiser, if I flash Android to NAND (ie: Polymod's most recent) how do you flash back to Windows Mobile?
I'm concerned because USB does not connect properly when Android is running with HaRET ("unrecognized USB device" using XP SP3 couldn't make heads or tails of the drivers in the SDK but then I didn't try installing the whole environment)
So I guess my question is -- even with the device unrecognized, can you still flash it back? If so, how? Is it really simple and easy?
Please let me know and point me in the right direction! Thanks!

I beleive you can always follow the process here.
Your boot loader should not change when flashing so not being able to use the USB while in Android is not going to prevent your returning back to a stock ROM. I have not tested this but I'm pretty sure that you can always get back to your boot loader screen and re-flash from that point. Can someone confirm that this is the appropriate solution?

Since the bootloader is still there all you do if not able to flash via async when in android is flash via bootloader
Moved to general as not ROM Dev.
Thanks for the information, guys!! I will have to try it out over this weekend and see how it goes...
I can confirm that flashing via bootloader works fine, also flashing from SD works as well, in fact I keep a 128MB sd with a WM kaisimg.nbh on it handy just in case I need to flash a good WM rom for some reason.

You can see in different post of android rom what works and what doesn't works.
actually, Bluetooth and camera never works for in android 2.x build and some other apps doesn't works
I've been running Android for a few weeks now from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614382
I've found everything to work with the exception of Bluetooth, video camera (normal camera works fine), and the barcode scanner. Also, my battery life is cut in half, but I have an extended life battery so I get a day or two out of it.
I prefer this method as you can just boot Android at will and can soft reset to go back to WinMo.
Just to let everyone know I did flash WM back just fine since I have HardSPL 3.56 and used the stylus to press the reset + camera button at the same time to get to the tri-color screen.
From there I flashed from USB without any problems.
Thanks again for all the help!
I am having problems reverting back to WM after attempting to install android to NAND. Something happened where the only way I was able to get to the android installer would be if I had the KAISDIAG.nbh file on the SD card so it would get past the tri color hard spl screen . Well as a result, I can't get into boot loader. It shows that screen for a split second, then if I do camera + power and then reset. Then I have to pull the battery. Can someone help me? It seems like it will only go into the Android bootloader, which obviously won't allow it to install a WM rom. SD flashes are my only choice because the usb port is pretty messed up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
The procedure for flashing WM back using SD card is much the same as flashing the Nand bootloader for Android.
First get a WM rom, copy the RUU_Signed.nbh to SD card, rename it to KAISimg.nbh, pull the battery, replace, press power and hold camera button, this should start the flash process.
Note that the SD card must be formatted FAT32, or it will not find the KAISimg.nbh.
If you prefer to flash a stock rom you will usually have to extract the RUU_Signed.nbh from the installer, just open it in winrar.
the reset in android is not working correctly. The correct way to get into bootloader is to pull the battery, wait a few minutes, rpelace the battery, press power and then press and hold camera button, do not use reset.

Thanks, but unfortunately this still did not work. Have any other suggestions? I think the only way will it even do anything is if I have the KAISDIAG.nbh file on the card. It recognizes that, but then goes straight to linux. IDK what else to do. Could you be a little more clear on the procedure for getting into the bootloader? Thanks.
Ok please follow these steps carefully.
1. Format the SD card, make sure you are formatting it as FAT32, not FAT.
2. Download a Winmo Rom from somewhere handy.
3. Extract the Rom to a handy folder, find the RUU_Signed.nbh file, rename that to KAISimg.nbh
4. Copy the KAISimg.nbh file to the SD card. You should only have one file on the SD card, no folders just the NBH file.
5. pull the battery from the phone, wait at least 5 minutes.
6. Replace the battery. Press Power button, and hold down camera button, until the tri color screen appears.
7. The screen should now change to a white one, and when it's checked the nbh it will ask you to press power key again. do that.
8. Now it should flash the rom, this should take a while, 5-10 minutes, once it's finished you should get a message of success.
9. Now pull the battery again, wait 5 minutes, replace the battery, and power on, you should now boot into Winmo.
Hopefully this should solve your problems, if not then let me know which setp failed and we can work on that stage.
Finally, don't panic, take it slow, it'll all work out
Thanks, but the problem starts at number 6. I am supposed to press the power button, release it, and hold the camera button till it gets to the white screen, right? It's still stuck at the splash screen. I tried holding both and that didn't work either. Anything else I can try? I hope i'm not screwed?
If I put the battery in, boot it up, then push the camera and insert the stylus into the reset hole, it gets to the tricolor screen, then for about 0.5sec it flashes the white screen with a message saying "No image File." I know for sure the .nbh file is there.
I have experienced this before, when I tried to use an SD card that was formatted FAT, when formatting you must make sure it is formatted FAT32, the bootloader cannot read FAT formatted SD cards, even if Winmo and Android can.
I format using a card reader, and in windows it is sometimes easy to overlook the file system type, most SD cards are usually formatted FAT when they are new, and you must change the formatting, or it will just format FAT again.

Unfortunately, as much as I wish it was, it is not the problem. I'm on a Mac, but booted windows 7 to be make sure it was formatted to FAT 32, which it was. Is there some way I can fix permissions? Every time it runs, I keep getting the error saying that it is in read only mode. I obviously need to get it into writing mode. I don't think the fix permissions option on the installer did anything either.
The eclair build still will not install on my phone. I changed to an earlier .nbh file and now don't need the KAISDIAG.nbh file to get out of the splash screen and into the installer. When I run the install command for NAND, it says it can't mount, "no such file exists", "failed to extract." Keep in mind I haven't even gotten Android installed to NAND, just the installer itself. I can't even go back to WinMo either. It also seems like a permissions error since I believe it said the SD card is read only, but when plugged into my computer I fixed that and now it is read-write, but not on the phone. Please help because I really want to either get this working, or get back to WinMo instead of have this useless phone I currently have. Thanks.
Is there a way to enter the command line from the installer screen?

Alright, I'll try and sum up your experiences. Tell us if we're missing anything;
You have the following symptoms
Linux Android-installer works
Tri-color bootloader semi-works
You cannot use the USB
You cannot install polymod's Eclair build
Now, you have mentioned a couple of things you have tried, such as
Replacing the Linux NBH with another version
Fixing permissions on the SD-card
Fixing permissions through the Android-installer
Flashing a WinMO ROM through SD card
You did mention getting other behaviours when you switched to another NBH, such as "KAISDIAG.nbh" not being required.
Now, this is a long shot coming from me, as I have had no troubles with flashing, and the fact that I can use my USB, but since your phone is pretty messed up I guess it can't hurt as a suggestion;
You can flash to other NBH's I take it, as you mentioned you did a downgrade. What I'm a bit curious about is whether you did try to flash to a WinMO rom when you had downgraded to your current NBH.
Also, you said the previous NBH required you to have "KAISDIAG.nbh" on the card to even get working. Did you try and rename a WinMO-ROM's NBH to "KAISDIAG.nbh" and flash that? Might be that the flasher is really constrictive with the file names.
EDIT: Oh, and what about trying to run other Eclair builds? Just to see if you can nail it down to this being a problem of the builds or something more bound to the actual hardware/SPL/NBH's.

[How-To] properly install Android

It is not quite self-explaining how to install Android on our Windows Mobile devices. Therefore I took some time and wrote down all the steps for people who are new to "Android".
More testers -> more experience -> more knowledge -> faster/better development.
I hope this way the forum is kept clean(er) from all kinds of questioned that have already been answered many times.
ReadMe Includes:
- Partitioning
- Device preparations
- Boot loader
- Install steps
- Fixes
- Links
- more...
If you are a developer (you create your own package) feel free to use my ReadMe for your packages (update regularly though).
to download the ReadMe click the [Android Repository] button in my signature.
It goes to a rapidshare page with 3 files, and when I click on the filename Android_README.TXT
or start download, I get the error
The file could not be found. Please check the download link.
ok thanks. i fixed it (rs bug when renaming files ^^)
How would i partition a 1GB SD Card? ie what sizes etc are the last 3 same but the unallocated is just whats left over?
I want to use a spare card rather then the one that came with my HD.

normally just calculate how i wrote in the readme:
whole space -768 (3* 256) and then the other 3 x 256
but in ur case i would make the swap smaller (i think its not even used at all) and the fat32 bigger; for instance:
fat32 - 384 MB
ext2 - 256 MB
ext2 - 256 MB
swap - 128 MB (rest)
To be honest the bit I find most confusing is all the different versions!
i didnt create any partitions on my card, and android works as good as it does on any, mind you i have not updated the files fo0r a month so alot might have changed
ReadMe updated!

i agree...
i've been looking these posts here for a couple of days now and i still don't know how to do it....
especially the DualBoot thing...
is it possible to make a little bigger how-to manual?
or at least explain the versioning and the needed thing a little more?
the readme is about 50 times longer than anything else u will find about installing android anywhere else
the different versions are just like in windows mobile, theres not much to explain, its rather up to ur personal preference. doesnt take as long as flashing a wm rom, so its easy to try out more versions, especially with more sd cards.
dual boot is easy:
1. install the cab
2. open the dual boot program and make all your settings, for example: auto boot android (click on the checkbox/ratio under android logo), check auto boot checkbox and check fast boot (means 3 instead of 10 secs).
3. restart your device, DONT LAUNCH HARET because that will destroy all the dualboot settings. if you restart/shutdown the device normally, the settings will be stored and android will automatically booted at next startup (or whatever you set before)
if you have android autoboot and u want to boot wm, just QUICKLY press the wm LOGO when the dual boot screen appears.
i might include this in the readme soon, just dont have the time right now unfortunally

Thanks for the dualboot help... i'll try that...
the first problem I have encountered yesterday when trying to put Android was SD card formating...
i downloaded the program you said and followed the instructions oh how-to and was not able to do it under Windows 7 with my 16GB SD card... does it even work for Windows 7??? is there another program I can try to do it with???
I have also dualboot on my PC with the Kubuntu being the second OS, but I'm not using it as much as Windows 7... I can try with it if you think it will work.. but first I have to download the 15GB of data from my SD card to my PC, again
I would like to put the Espresso build cause I saw that it has everything working beside the GPRS and camera...
can you tell me what should I download for my Blackstone so it works properly???
thanks alot...

like the readme says: partitioning is only needed for partitined builds, which means that android uses several partitions to store different kinds of data, for - hopefully - more speed. only glossy uses partitions, espresso doesnt.
for glossy, u can also use ubuntu (download parted magic or something similar) to create partitions.
for espresso, u just need to copy the stuff onto ur sdcard.
but thats all in the readme... i dont have time to explain in detail coz i need to study a whole ****in lot at the moment +.+

ok... thanks for the help... you helped me a lot just with the claryfication of the versions that need partitioning and the ones that don't...
i didn't know that...

one more question...
I get the following message '' Failed to load file\Storage Card\zImage''
Can you help me with that????

well, some details about what version you are using would be helpful. however, this is not the right channel to ask this question. i think this question has already been asked several times in other threads. try search function or read the thread for ur version, its probably a version-issue or only for your country/provider

sorry about that...I realized it later that I should ask in another thread that question...
I managed to figure it out... I just needed to manually configure my APN settings...

[Q] Latest xdandroid for touch pro 2 how-to

This is my first for anything like this. I have a Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2, and want to put the latest version of XDANDROID on it. But, have no clue which version or where to start. I would like to eventually get in to building on my own. Could someone please help get me started?

to get started, it really doesn't get any simpler than downloading the latest FRX03 from here:
http://sites.google.com/site/androidport/downloads
(i'd recommend the RAR version, so you can unzip it into your SD card faster)
after that, just use WM's file explorer navigate to andboot and run haret.exe and you're "done"
----
(optional) with a little bit of more effort, go into the top sticky of this forum, and update to the latest Kernel (1253). the current Kernel in FRX03 from Dec 20 is (i believe) 1232.
It's sort of that easy, but I had this same question before I did it too. It would have been nice if the FAQ said this explicitly.
If you download the rar archive, it will extract out in its own subdirectory, e.g.
XDAndroid2.2Froyo.XXxxXX/andboot/...
The first thing I do is move the andboot subdirectory to the root of the SD card.
The next thing is to edit the andboot/startup.txt file to match your phone. I guess you can use the XDAndroidStartup utility to take care of this instead, but the first time I tried that it failed because of that silly runtime dependency.
If you want to use the startup utility, and it gives you an error and refuses to run, you need to install the updated net framework like it talks about on this page:
http://sites.google.com/site/androidport/startup-utility
Thanks guy I will give it a try and post if I have questions. I love the design/setup of my TP2 but I hate the windows OS.

If your phone is in GSM mode, you'll want it in. Check your startup.txt, you'll need force_cdma=0 in there.
If you're on CDMA, I believe you do have to have the SIM removed, yes. Also, the above command should have a 1 instead of 0.
^^ I'm not positive about that piece, but I do know that Android on our phones will only recognize one or the other - GSM or CDMA. Maybe we'll get it to recognize both one day, I saw an entry for it in the RIL...
I do know that I have CDMA. Plus how do update the kernel, where do I put it?

You simply replace your existing kernel and modules.
So delete the existing zImage/modules-xxxx.tar.gz, and put in the new zImage/modules-xxx.tar.gz. Don't rename the modules file, but be sure the zImage file is named just that - zImage.
The files go where you run haret.exe from - typically the root of the SD, or in /andboot.
UH-OH, not sure what happened. I reformated my SD card to do a new run since I found what I wanted. Now it seems like I can do everything but make calls in WM6.5. What do I do

Android should have no effect on WinMo (assuming you're using haret/install on your SD). Plus, this really isn't a place to get help with WinMo.
Do the usual - soft reset, hard reset, reflash of stock ROM.

I know, I'm trying to put android on it and I am using haret from the SD card. I'm just not sure if this is will effect android or is a common problem. Thanks though, I have been going through those things while i wait.
