Any Navigation Software??? - Desire General

Is there any navigation softwer for Htc Desire?
I've tried with iGo, but it is only on the half of the screen...
What about MotoNav?
I've found apk file, but it keeps saying that i need to have motonav sdcard inserted?
any help would be appriciated...

There is Google Maps with Navigation in the US and UK. There is CoPilot which is a paid app but is full screen and very nice and easy to use.

I just used the google turn by turn navigation that comes with the phone, works really well, not as good as Co Pilot but it's free and works.

You can also use Sygic and Ndrive, both run very well on my X10 and i don't see why they shouldn't run on the Desire.

Sygic on my desire too....lock in 5-10seconds and its full screen...
hopefully some1 will sort out a solution for igo as that is the best app ever for navigation.

Sygic runs amazing on the Desire... The better screen just makes the software SO much nicer than on the Hero

Navigon works pretty well.
Fortunately t-mobile (Germany) put maps for all European countries on the SD Card in advance. ( At first I was wondering why i only had 2Gb Space left on my SD Card when booting for the first time XD )

For me the best navigation is the adjusted Motonav so it fits on a 480x800 screen. You tried it, but I doubt you als had the sdcard/motonav/license folder with the right file. That's why it keeps saying you need to insert the right SDcard.

i´m using navigon europe edition.
works smooth and fast as hell!!!

I wish Sygic would hurry up and release an Australian version.
Either that or iGo would release an official Android version (other than Motonav). I also have the 320x240 screen. Even at full res the iGo screen is a bit cramped.

ok, so i am from serbia, and used to have igo on my magic, because igo and garmin have the best maps for my country.
and as i figured out motonav is igo for mototola using android, for europian market. if anybody has/knows the way for installing motonav with correct resolution and with working licence, please contact me on pm

People still don't get it - this is a DEVELOPMENT FORUM. Post your questions in the right section (Software)!
AndNav (free)
CoPilot
NAVIGON MobileNavigator
IGo
Google Navigator

Moved as not Android Development.

I guess there is an igo folder on the sd card. rename it to Motonav and motonav will work (even I think its a crap, but still... )

I have been using Co-Pilot Live 8, so far the best available for android. I am used to Tom Tom on WM devices but not available sadly for android. However, Co-Pilot does the job well.

ok...sorry for putting this thread in wrong section...
I've managed to start motonav, there is still resolution problem, but it is ussable
thanx

i use copilot8 pretty quick no issues.

using desire as Sat Nav

just in the process of setting my Desire up.
Can any one advise how I configure it to allow me to use it as a Sat Nav with turn by turn directions etc..
Also how do I get UK & NZ Maps ?
how fast will it be finding satellites compared to a TomTom ?
My old Nokia N95 8GB took ages !!
Thanks
Hi Albert
If you want to use Google maps for navigation you'll need the brut modded maps for NZ, the normal maps will work in the UK though. I didn't find the google navigation particularly handy though so i got Navigon which is great. The maps are installed on the SD you you won't need a data connection all the time. There's a 30 trial and if you don't get the full license you'll still be able to use it in the country you first registered it.
Connecting is REALLY fast! I've even connected while i was inside away from the window (not all the time though)
btw...comparing it to TomTom, i noticed i love to be able to see nevigation in portrait mode where that isn't possible on TomTom ofcourse. Portrait mode will give you a much further view of the road compared to landscape view.
Thanks
Are there any other decent free sat nav options for the UK & NZ. ?
you don't happen to have a link for brut maps do you ?
Thanks again
Get Nav Launcher from the Market. It will install brut maps for you and everything else.
Thanks I'll try that..
Last quick question will I need to find the UK & NZ maps or does this do it all ??
Google Navigation uses online maps - you need to have an active data connection, though I believe it is supposed to cache maps when it calculates a route.
Unless you've got decent data plans in both the UK and NZ, it probably isn't much use to you.

Dave
Thanks

Free options? No, not in my opinion. Google Maps Navigation is the closest free navigation app to the paid offerings, but I still believe it isn't as good overall as something like Copilot.

I believe there's Navigon, Copilot and Tom Tom is coming soon.
There's also AndNav for free from the market, Waze and I believe Wikitude now does Augmented Reality Directions.
I have no experience in any of these applications though.
There is also this:
http://www.mapdroyd.com/
But I'm not sure weather it does turn by turn or weather it's just offline maps.
thanks.
I'll look at all the apps suggested.
download copilot from android market and if you dont like it uninstall it within 24 hours and you wont be charged. I have tried them all and I find that copilot is about the best app out there for android, however their customer service is extremely slow, took about two weeks for them to answer a trouble ticket. however app is very well priced and it is an excellent bit of kit.
Thanks I will take a look

Thanks !!

I don't think there is a trial version of Copilot, though there is a trial version of Navigon which lasts for 30 days.
IMHO though, Copilot is better than Navigon.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks Dave,
I will get copilot
Do you think i will manage to get a map for Malta pls ? (will be on holiday there soon)

Sygic Mobile maps 10 or Copilot 8,2 both work on froyo

I can confirm iGo works great on the Desire. Works with any 8.3 version maps which i believe covers the whole of europe, north america and australia

Gps navigation software

I am new to android which is giving me many choices for navigation. What is the best navigation software android has to offer? I prefer Garmin but there is not an app for it.

Google Maps navigation is in my opinion the best. also sprint nav isn't too bad, but google is better.
Telenav for Sprint seems kind of dodgey on all the devices I have ever used it on. I will try the google one thank you.

is there any navigation program like igo8? which doesnt require any 3G data download connection to load the map?
cause in malaysia, the data download cost is ridiciously high.
CoPilot Live is what you're looking for (I use it, nice). It's in the Market, and the whole U.S maps are on special for $4.99. Sweet deal.
Check out their site for info on maps of other locales.
Navigon had an Android gps app but they pulled it sometime ago.
Forgive My Brevity. To Be Or Not To Be...
I used MapDroyd when I went across country. No data connection at all in the deserts.
MapDroyd is good!!! but they doesnt give me navigation to the destination..
any more suggestion?

anymore suggestion? i used to use iGO8(crACKED) on my omnia and diamond2....
also im in melbourne(australia) and Kuala Lumpur(malaysia) often
I've tried co pilot, and Igo and they are all slow at responding. I find google maps work very smoothly and does everything u need.

So you're looking or warez then or something free? Dude, there's always Google or Yahoo or Bing.
Otherwise, CoPilot Australia details are here http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/travel/copilot-live-australia-nz_boqf.html
or
Ndrive might be your best bet as they have maps for both Australia and Malaysia (Asia and Oceania) here http://www.ndriveweb.com/products/product/7/

What is the best standalone GPS app for Android?

I am going to the US in two weeks and would like a GPS Nav app that works without a data connection. So far I have looked at reviews for Navigon, NavDroyd, and CoPilot.
What is the best standalone GPS navigation app for Android? Is Navigon worth the higher price? What other ones have I missed?
Copilot for me
If you can, try out the new version of Sygic.
It's called Sygic Aura.
It's just awesome, very good navigation software, well developed, simple to use and extraordinary graphics.
Try it, you will love it!
i tried Sygic last week on my galaxy s and worked great
I got the copilot US special for USD 4.99 and tested it 2 weeks ago on a trip to NY. in the taxi from JFK to Manhattan it worked just great!
also - you can move both the maps and the app to the external SD thus saving space for apps on internal memory (this requires a simple trick but there is a recent thread for that here describing it - search for it).
also tried NDrive and Aura - Aura's UI is strange, don't like it and NDrive is simple but OK but can not move app or maps to external - this is a no go for me. also got the free navigon Australia special but could not test it (only maps for Australia and NZ - and you can not explore the maps if you don't have a GPS signal in that area - bad)
good luck
I use navigon, copilot and igo (yes, it works on high res devices ) all work great
I've tried allmost all of them. But allways end up using Navigon 3.5. The look is clean and simple. Cant say anything bad about it.
Sygic is a great android tool with the look and feel of TOMTOM (the benchmark in navigation).
XDA App
CoPilot for me . I had it on my WinMo device and when I switch to Galaxy I thought they wouldn't have Android version , but there it is.
Very happy with it.
I hear Sygic Aura isn't for AUSTRALIA. What is the best for AUSTRALIAN territories?

used market enabler app to put myself in the US and tehre it was in the market - a special deal they had for some weeks. not sure if they still have it. with Docs latest rom I can not search the market at the moment - will let you know ASAP.
still on market for 3.99 euros
Thanks Chris. I shall try them when the gps of the SGS works better with the 2.2 update.
Copilot is good but with IgoMyWay, we have a 3D view with relief... Very good!

The latest Google maps works perfectly in Australia right to your door with step by step direction list and turn by turn *voice* navigation and then you can use all the Google services to locate petrol station, restaurants etc - I was using copilot but i think it was a bit bloated and sometimes buggy on my samsung galaxy s. I honestly can't believe how good google maps does the job

Does this version allow you to also use maps from outside the US?
Standalone?
Hello,
Are these apps really standalone, I mean no data plan needed? I saw some are asking a monthly fee also.
Thank you,
Liviu

[Q] Navigation doesn't work on my device, please help.

Hello,
I'm a proud owner of the HTC HD Mini and its a great device but I brought it to use it as a navigation system, I've tried several navigation softwares but none of them seems to work. (Navigon, Tom Tom, Route66, CoPilot etc.)
It installs correctly but when I try to run the application it keeps loading and freezes after some time.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
Thanks.
hi, i use Igo Primo and runs like a charm on hd mini (landscape only though ,for portrait it works Igo My way but primo looks better) you may find it using search function here or on Google ,you will find alot of updated maps too unlike some other softwers
here's a close link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=690448
use Sygic Mobile Maps 10
http://www.sygic.com/index.php/en/compatible-devices.html
Both of them ain't working for me, anyone else?
Try TomTom and use ttn7.917.9186_qvga_black_cuckoo_NOBT, works perfect. At the moment i use the new maps 865.
sygic works great for me dude...try to format ur device...i can upload if u want...
If you are fresh owner of the Mini i more then strongly recommend u to return it back to the seller w/o declaring any reason (works usualy within few days from buy date) .. the most important part is DONT TAKE ANOTHER ONE IN EXCHANGE take the money, since Mini is **** phone even with Navigation ... its a junk phone no matter what, trust me i unfortunately own one too.
Good luck
Can anyone help me please?

Hello bertobasten,
I use HD MINI - TOMTOM VERSION 7915 MAP 8520_2820 ITA, and IGO PRIMO 8.5.11.168090 - November 17, 2010 - resolution 480x320 - if you put the appropriate files and not part igo primo, the problem is that you attach the file sys.txt

I hope it was helpful.
