Desire Screen - Is it the same as the N1 - Desire General

I heard that the incredible has an improved multi touch screen at the hardware level [compared to the N1], and was wondering if the Desire has the same physical screen as the N1?
Sorry I really really did search everywhere, if its been answered before.
Thanks.

Yes the Nexus and Desire share the same screen and with it the same 'problems'. I can understand why some find this a problem, but the I doubt many will actually use 'multitouch'. Dual touch should be enough, which works for pinch n zoom. Other than that, I don't use it. Unless you are an airhockey 'enthusiast'. Of course if I could actually choose between the two, I would obviously go for the better one. The Incredible and forward, all devices will probably have better screens than the N1 and Desire.

djind,
Do you know if there are any Android application that has been designed using multitouch yet besides the games?
For example, is there any webbrowser that users two finger swipe left, two finger swipe right, two finger swipe up, two finger swipe down, three fingers touch, etc to effect different web browsing actions? Or, touch music players that fully utilise single/double/triple finger swipes, three finger touch, etc to perform everything from changing volume, chaging songs, changing playlist, etc without having to look at the screen for buttons while driving?

With a class full of iphone addicted gamers, I can see where full on multi touch is an advantage. Theres just so much game developers can do with the full screen avalible, BUT, we're going to see even more fragmentation on the marketplace now.

No I do not, but there must be a reason for that.
Don't get me wrong, I like multitouch, it adds a lot to devices in general, but let's not forget that we have a mobile phone in our hands, or usually just on hand. Priority number one should be enabling the phone to use single handed the best possible way.
You can't actually use multitouch gestures and not look at the screen, what are we talking about here? If your phone does not have a volume rocker on the side, don't use it as an mp3 player (I must say I like the Creative X-Fi2, but you shouldn't have to wake the screen in order to change volume, bad Creative, bad!)
Multitouch gestures generally use more effort to perform compared to hardware button or a single button. One finger swipe is still number one in my book. You would have to give an exact multi-swipe from top to bottom in order to get the volume settings just right, or click on the volume rocker while your eyes are on the road.
Multitouch, like I said, adds a new dimension to the whole experience, but using 3 fingers on the screen covers most if not more than the whole screen. I don't see any ease of use in that. Yes you can use it for a shortcut, but actually performing a 3 finger action is what I think puts me off. A way to browse would indeed be two finger flick for next and previous page, or just touching the left/right key on the browser screen. It is all about ease of use.
The multitouch gestures are cool, but someitimes or usually unnecessary. Having all options and functions is fine, but I think most of the time anyone uses them is after: "Look what my phone can do."
At the end of the line, it's all about usefulness and necessity.
I don't play games and such on my phone (not a lot anyway), probably why I have these views. But somehow they still kind of make sense to me.
Palm has done a great job on the Pre and Pre Plus. The gesture area is the best implementation of ease of use and productivity I have seen so far, combined with the cards view option. I am definately getting a Pre Plus once they get here. It looks like it just works.
Too bad the HTC takeover is out of the question now. I would have loved to see what the great devs at xda could do with WebOs and their creativity and user feedback.
edit: Holy SHhh this reply is huge.. my apologies for this. I have to do some work for school, probably why I wrote this long reply..

i dont think ive ever encountered an iphone app that requires the use of more than 2 fingers (though it can detect up to 11 i think)
though the issue is that the desire can't even do 2 fingers well enough to go beyond pinching actions, anything like the hundreds of iphone games that require 2 fingers just won't work properly. which isn't much of an issue now as these kind of games dont really exist for android, but it may put devs off creating anything like this in the future.

One thing that I think proper multi-touch helps with is the onscreen keyboard.
Personally I think that typing on the virtual keyboard on the Desire is sh*t compared to the iPhone (which supports proper multi-touch). Perhaps I will have to adjust my typing style, but I just cannot type quickly on the Desire, whereas I can on the iPhone, also with fewer mistakes.
If I had the choice and the Incredible was out here in the UK now, then I would get it, no question (despite it's "looks that only a mother could love", and no hard keys for Home/Search/BackMenu).

N1 & Desire have Clearpad 2000, Incredible has Clearpad 3000.

How so?
Unless you somehow can use more than two fingers to type on a 3.7" screen then there should be no difference.

I agree about the iphone keyboard. It is perhaps because I was used to it, although I made the necessary mistakes, but I think mostly it has to do with the lay-out of the keyboard. It looks somehow as if it has more space between the key's which make it easier to actually hit the key you are focussing on. That's the feeling I get when I compare the Desire in my hands and the iPhone in my thoughts. But typing on the desire is fine.
Still gonna get the Pre Plus with portrait keyboard!

Nope.

yeah typing on the desire is a lot harder for me than the iphone too, tho i don't think this is a multitouch issue.
the iphone keyboard guesses what key your tying to press, so even if you hit the one next to it the one you intended to hit comes up, im not sure if the desire keyboard does this.

I stand corrected!
In reference to the keyboard issue - I've barely used iPhones, but I was typing quickly and error free in 60 sec. On the Desire it seems to register a single touch as more than one touch sometimes, causing a lot of error correction to have to go on, slowing me down as I have to pick the correct word from the list.

Hello everyone!
Just to confirm and prove it with a video, the Desire has the same issue as the N1

Sorry for the link, but I am new and my account is not verified

Desire has a real multitouch, it's just that the Y axes is reversed when you use 2 fingers, this will be corrected in Froyo.

I've read it on others websites.
It's obvious, when you watch videos of this bug or play yourself at AirHockey, you can state that it's not messy/random, just reversed.
In fact it's a software issue so it can be easily corrected but as it may be in the driver which is not accessible for devs, we have to wait for an official update from HTC except if someone can dump N1's driver if it has been corrected with the last update, could someone test multitouch on the N1 as it has the same bug under 2.1 ?

Froyo will not fix multitouch bug.. confirmed by froyo users on Nexus One.

You know I tried that app on the market to test multi touch and I could move 4 fingers/points at once... so I'm confused.

problem with multitouch in games

hello,
I install some games on my HTC Desire ex. Guitar Hero and I have problem with my screen. In some games (guitar hero) I need to press two button (on the screen) at the same time, but only one is working. Is this possible to repair this problem? I have this bug in all games where I shoud press screen on two sides at the same time.
Can anyone help me?
I have android 2.2.
Contact the developer of the game. The desire supports two touches at once which is all you need. So if it doesn't work its the game that doesn't support it.
Actually I think it's a HTC issue. Download Dotty from the market and try using multi touch on the screen. You'll soon see the problems!
I check this on Dotty and I have only this bug: youtube.com/watch?v=hVlsRCMltDg.
In dotty I have correct two touch in one line at the same time, but my other aplications don't work with two touches correctly.
Maybe it is bug after android update 2.1->2.2?

The desire dosent have true multitouch, it only has dual touch, this leads to all sorts of problems in games
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
So which Andorid smartphones have true multitouch function?
Only iphone have true multitouch?
It's not good for HTC to make not full functional phone
I don't think any android has true multi-touch, certainly nothing made by HTC.
All htc phones are single touch that can detect certain gestures based on the "size" of the touch i.e. the difference between the 2 points, that is how it can work out pinch zooming as the size of the touch either shrinks or grows.
Samsung Galaxy I9000 S have full multitouch. Now I regret because I should buy better smartphone a few days ago
Guitar Hero on Android is not multitouch so will only register one finger at a time. It is just one of many issues with that game. Registering 2 touches is more than adequate for every multitouch game I have ever tried so no need to make an issue out of the Desire's slightly dated multitouch screen technology.

But the Desire isn't registering 2 touches. It's registering 1 finger as 1 touch and 2 fingers as 1 large touch with altering sizes. If you have ever tried any of the first person shooter-games on the Desire you will know that these games are very hard to play bc you can't change viewpoint and move at the same time. Many of gamelofts 3d action games are unplayable because of this. Many games on different emulators are difficult too because of the need to push multiple buttons at once.
I'm a bit of a gaming nut and was VERY disappointed by this when I bought my Desire. It's a very nice phone, but it puzzles me how HTC decided on some of the more odd and annoying designchoices....apparently its just impossible to get THE perfect phone...
(still wondering why a crappy camera is upgraded to record 720p....hooray, now my blurry, dark and noisy videos are ugly in HD! )

[REQ] Multitouch Keyboard

I have always said I will not buy a tablet until they have a multitouch keyboard, because for me that is necessary for using a tablet. One key at a time and/or Swype will not cut it. I need to be able to type like my keyboard at home.
Please will someone port Droid X's keyboard and you will make a buyer out of me, and probably make my mananger and boss very happy.
(I work at sprint )
I'll put forth $5, :-\...sorry I can't do more alot of my money is going towards my server for Team Galaxy Sense
I think you will have to stick a few digits on the ebd before anyone will even take that request seriously. porting an IME is no trivial task.
Why do you need a kultitouch keyboard anyway? I cant see any posible usage scenario other than gaming and remote desktop.

I installed it on my Tab and the font on the keyboard was tiny
SmartKeyboard Pro supports multitouch. Apparently. http://www.dexilog.com/smartkeyboard/
Smart keyboard pro does it very well, and I'm pretty sure that better keyboard does too... I have them both on my vibrant...but I still keep coming back to swype... I'm anxiously awaiting delivery of my tab though so I can't report on how well they work on the tab, although I AM running the leaked 2.2 (obsidian) rom on my vibrant (same processor/ram/etc...), and they work very well on it. If you have a store demo you can install the free version of smart keyboard pro on it... The multi touch works, just not the user dictionary and some of the other customization features (like setting the long press duration...)

A multi touch keyboard lets you type faster... Your finger can still be touching a key when you hit the next one... Without multi touch, your finger had to be completely off of the last key before you can hit the next one... It doesn't seem like a big deal, but it makes a noticeable difference...

I'm extremely picky about this and it was the reason I ditched my HTC Incredible (it's shoddy multi-touch couldn't keep up with my typing...this has supposedly been fixed in later patches).
Nonetheless, I installed Smart Keyboard (I hate Better Keyboard) on my Tab, and it works flawlessly. I highly recommend it, it's inexpensive and you won't break bank on it.

I have a Desire and I'm not sure if it's keyboard is multitouch (HTC IME Mod), but if it isn't then that would explain why I don't understand the need, but anything that lets me type faster is great, the two stock keyboards are utter rubbish.
Another vote for Smart Keyboard Pro. I have used it on both my Evo and G Tablet and it is the best.

If I'm understanding right, then the default (not swype) keyboard lets me press a key and before removing my finger from it press another.
I believe this is the multitouch behaviour being requested and as such, assuming I am correct, I can also confirm this as working.

Best feature on WP7 imo....the keyboard

My favorite feature on windows phone 7 believe it or not has nothing to do with apps. Its that thing you use to search for apps, you know, the keyboard! I must admit its a quite good keyboard and definitely beyond the one on Android and in my humble opinion better then iOS. The size of the keys are perfect and the sensitivity is right on target. With Android you get a lag regardless of your virtual keyboard of choice and the only way to get it to run accurately is by turning off sound and haptic feedback. No matter how much you type on wp7, there is never any slowdown. It works to perfection and is the main reasons I use this device or any of my Android powered phones as my daily driver.
Plus the fact that not everyone has one is icing on the cake. I feel like I've got a rare gem and if there are detractors so be it. I too was one and from the moment I bought my hd7 until now, I haven't looked back. All in all great device and exceptional minus some minor annoyances. In due time I have faith we will get fixes and updates because above all, Microsoft believes in this product. It has a very futuristic feel and gives you a taste of what the next generation can be like if legitimate time and effort is spent on the evolution of the os.
I totally agree with you. You are not the only one with laggy keyboard on the android, i absolutely hated it and i never could figure out what was wrong with it. I never had this much fun using the keyboard on the iphone. The text text revolution is one of the best typing game i have ever played on a mobile device and its free!
i think the keyboard in landscape mode could make better use of the extra space... at the moment it is only a little bit wider than the portrait keyboard
i find it harder to type in landscape than in portrait because of its placement
I agree with the keyboard being a BIG plus for the WP7. I have not had keyboard issues on my previous Android Nexus one ROM running from SD card, but that is probably due to the fact that I did not activate any sound or feedback for the keyboard.
The only thing that is a bit disappointing for me is the lack of the cursors. Even if they were in a hidden menu, it would be easier for me to edit the text in case I've found any mistake.
As for the landscape mode, I prefer typing with 2 hands to 1, so I like it, but I agree with hboos that they space could be better used.
I agree too! the keyboard is one of the greatest things on WP7

You may already be aware of this, but if not; tap and hold your finger on the text for about a second and a cursor will appear - drag this to where the mistake is and edit away.
I actually find this better than some other systems where you select text / move the cursor based solely on where you're tapping your finger as it's always a pain in the arse getting it placed in the right spot.
yeeeah its so responsive thats what i like i remember on my old phone (Xperia X1) i'd type a text and have to wait agggess for the phone to catch up on the screen!! even happened on stock roms which was very annoying! but WP7 does it awesome
Coming from Android, the WP7 keyboard is a major plus for me.
I like the spacing and it is super responsive. Also, I like the keyboard sound, helps me with entering text.
Only drawback I see is the smiley button. I don't use much smilies.
While I prefer WP7 over android, I have to say the new gingerbread keyboard for android is amazing. I'd say better than WP7 keyboard just because it doesn't have the extra space in landscape mode.

Honest review from a critical nerd (me)

I've has my Galaxy Nexus for a couple of days now, on the Three network in the UK.
I hate how most people in reviews rave about phones when they have just forked out for them, and fail to mention any real negatives - presumably because they refuse to accept that something they've spent £500 on might be less than perfect. When you buy one and it's missing features or isn't quite what you expected, it's very annoying.
Here are my thoughts so far. I consider myself a power-user, and have tested almost everything. Overall, people are right. This is the best phone I've touched. I think once devs start optimising their apps to work properly on ICS it'll be even better. Fingers crossed that Cyanogen will address lots of the annoyances below.
I hope this is useful for someone
The Good:
Feels much more complete and unified.
It's lightening fast.
Most of the best bits of Android have transferred.
Screen looks great.
Face unlock works much better than I thought. Even in low light.
I've only had one crash despite installing a tonne of apps and testing every feature. [EDIT: a few FCs today. Mainly from the pre-installed Google Earth).
Radio seems to work fine on Three UK, unlike the SGS II which has data issues due to fast dormancy. Data speeds are great.
Browser generally much better.
Text input much better, but editing is a little confusing and seems to vary depending on app. [EDIT: This is actually phenomenal. I've always had a hardware keyboard or Swype before so no practice on these keyboards. After only 48 hours, I can literally type without looking. It is very good at correcting mistakes.]
Screen size is great for me, as I use my phones as mini-tablets. Doesn't feel bulky in my pocket at all.
BLUETOOTH STEREO FINALLY DOESN'T DISTORT - I can hear hi-hats again instead of just distortion. There is a bit of constant crackling though.
Screen remains responsive when charging. I have had an issue where it wasn't registering touch properly when charging on my Milestone, Desire and SGSII so this is really nice.
The Bad:
EVEN THOUGH I'M SUPPOSEDLY IN AN UNAFFECTED BAND, IF MY PHONE DROPS TO 2G, AND SOMEONE WALKS NEAR ME MAKING A PHONECALL IT PUTS MY PHONE ON SILENT.
The 'menu' button is unpredictable. For example, in most apps it appears at the bottom with the softkeys. In Market it's up at the top, near the search button. In some apps, it has gone. Seems to vary and is confusing.
You're stuck with the Google search box on you home screen. I hate this.
Now the button has gone, if an app doesn't have a search icon, you've lost the ability to search.
Also means no long press search, so you have to go back to the home screen for voice commands. This also means that regardless of what launcher you use, if you want voice search, you NEED to have the Google search widget on your home screen.
No USB Mass Storage – they've opted for media device profile instead. My Xbox recognises it but can't play any content. It doesn't work with my car stereo. It doesn't work with my TV. My laptop will see it, but I can't see certain hidden folders. This has just removed a huge aspect of flexibility from Android. It's no longer universal, and more like an iPhone now in that respect.
Icons are as ugly in real life as everyone expected.
Blue theme clashes with everything except blue. Blue icons on blue background feels very bland.
There is a huge problem with speech to text, whereby it is very slow, and seems to just write a list of names out of my contacts directory rather than writing what I say! Video here: http://youtu.be/qHVptz2EtMk
No longer accepts certain file formats over Bluetooth.
Camera seems buggy when reviewing photos. It works confusingly.
Gallery is not very intuitive at all.
Browser doesn't display Javascript animations properly.
Dropped a few calls.
Wifi range isn't as good as my other Androids
Front facing camera doesn't aim inwards towards your face. It points straight forward at 90 degrees, but it's positioned on the right of the device, so your face isn't central unless you hold the phone at a bit of an angle facing away from you. [EDIT - this is getting very annoying now. You have to have the phone screen pointing almost away from you to video call]
Bluetooth calls don't seem to work. Caller can't hear what I'm saying. [EDIT - I'm told it works on newer kits. Mine is a Jabra stereo receiver]
Bluetooth music has a constant crackling behind it, but it's barely noticeable in loud music.
All albumart appears in the phone gallery.
Google Talk seems to sign out after a while. It's showing all of my contacts as away even though I know they're online. Signing out and in again fixes this temporarily, but I'm guessing I would miss video calls whilst offline.
Phone has gone to permanent sleep about 3 times in 2 and a half days now. Requires a battery pull to get it back on.
Apps - If you can't live without these, I'd recommend waiting to buy until they're fixed
No menu button is shown on Facebook, so there's no way to set it up to sync contacts or notifications. This means no contact photos for now.
Twitter on the other hand syncs all my contacts, despite me telling it not to.
Doesn't support Swype as yet.
Doesn't support MX Video Player.
iPlayer not available in the Market.
Grooveshark app doesn't work due to lack of flash player. You can use Dood's music streamer for a functional but unattractive alternative.
Thanks for the review and honesty. It would be nice if you kept this updated as either your opinion changes or things are fixed from either Google or app developers.
Is web browser as smooth (scrolling, pinch to zoom) as one on the galaxy s2?
I really beginning to wonder if Verizon is going to put these out there in two weeks without some fixes/improvements in place. I mean, if December 8 is real, these phones have got be in sealed boxes already. People will be returning them faster than they sell them.

I'm about to test the bluetooth quality, as crackling audio was my biggest pet hate from previous Android versions.
Can you resize the search widget? If we are stuck with it maybe something smaller will help minimize that particular drawback.

I hope yopu don't mind but I am going to hijack this thread and also post a quick review from a similar nerd is maybe over critical. Saves starting a new thread.
The Good
ICS is very polished, much more so than any other version of android, it tries to stay consistent through the whole phone where as in previous versions it was one of my main annoyances.
The device looks fantastic.
The speed is very good, I wouldn't say it is any faster than a SGS2 with a custom rom IMO but it is a lot smother in animation etc. so it feels a lot faster.
The screen is very nice, playing videos when the screen is set up to an acceptable brightness are amazing with colours a lot more natural than the SGS2 or the yellow tint of the iphone 4.
Radio is very good also, getting full signal in my house where as before i would only receive 2-3 bars.
Text input is a lot better although i have found it is unable to keep up with my typing, although it is putting the letters down it almost seems like there is a little delay in the animation of them magnifying.
Notification light is back and I am glad, as I missed that feature on my SGS2.
Has everything, NFC, noise cancelling mic, 720p display and ICS. Its pretty much future proof (in terms of the next few years)
Zero shutter lag is a very good feature
Bad Points
The screen although very nice on full or half brightness is not very good on auto brightness. It is so much lower compared to all my other smart phones it is almost unusable I find so I have had to manually set the brightness.
Auto rotate as I have mentioned in another thread is very inconsistent, very fast in some apps nearly non existent in others.
Sound quality is quiet, not poor quality but very quiet. My SGS2 and iPhone 4 over power it when playing videos.
The browser is fast but it is not as fast as my SGS2 running Check Rom Revolution HD. It is deffo faster than the iPhone 4.
The camera is not great, its not bad but the quality feels like it is from a year old device. Quite grainy, not as good as the SGS2 or the iphone 4s unfortunately.
And lastly a few quirks which I am sure will be sorted out with an over the air update, occasional stutter when opening app draw, gallery doesn't seem terribly smooth when going through photos and the auto rotate is just annoying me.
Other than the above I don't want people to read this and think it is doom and gloom because it isn't. This is a very very good device, I am glad I purchased it because it is still the best phone on the market in my opinion.
Every phone has its niggles but that is why this forum is so great, I am looking forward to the community baked roms which always make a device go from very good to just awesome.
To answer some question, you can't resize the search bar. Its not really a widget its sort of like the controls at the bottom, permanently there.
when typing does it type well, what I mean is it off when typing and you keep getting bad letters up, I had that problem with the SGS2 someone mentioned it was a screen problem that it kept jumping
thanks

Can you resize the search widget? If we are stuck with it maybe something smaller will help minimize that particular drawback.

Nope, can't resize it. It's there permanently. You'd have to install another launcher.
Added a few more to the list, mainly to do with Bluetooth.
Is FM radio working with Spirit FM Radio app?

Yeah it types really well, I don't think I have mistyped once on there and I type real fast.
Good lord. That's a lot of negatives. Thanks for the honest review for undecided minds like me. Just two questions. If you use a 3rd party launcher (for example adw) will the google search bar still be present? Secondly, how does the GPS perform in terms of fix time and accuracy? Does barometer really help GPS fix time? Thanks

The GPS fix for me is very fast, easily within a second or so. Much faster than my Desire was, that's for sure.
A lot of those negatives either will be resolved soon by Google or they won't be a problem for the majority of people

Ugh.
This is going to be problematic with my live clock wallpaper that is displayed at the top of the screen. Anyone else use WP Clock?
Here's an example of the live wallpaper I'm talking about:

Well you have to bare in mind that ICS is a big over haul, so if we were to list all the positives it would be a pretty big list. I am just venting my negatives of the device, but when you compare them to how good the device is they really are small and I would rather have this handset than any other. I forked out for both my SGS2 and the Galaxy Nexus sim free and i am not dissapointed with either. If you are undecided on whether to upgrade you have to look at the fact that this phone does have everything, is a developer phone and has ICS written specifically for it. I would say go for it.
If you use a 3rd party launcher the Google search will not be present, my GPS has been excellent, I have used it for a few car journeys and it is just as good as my SGS2 which was superb.

Yep I know, ICS seems to be the biggest change among the previous Android versions. Together with Google & developers' support, it's why I want to jump ship to the Nexus line. At the moment I'm leaning towards it, just wanna read more reviews. Although the volume adjusting problem that many people are having is a bit of a concern. Hopefully it will be fixed by a software update.

Jelly Bean Browser Zoom Too Sensitive

I've used just about every browser but have been pretty happy with the stock Android browser since ICS until now.
I've noticed since I've upgraded to JB official version via ota that just touching the screen and scrolling starts zooming. This doesn't always happen and is hard to intentionally replicate because it seems to happen more on some sites than others but it is becoming increasingly annoying.
I like just beinc able to double tap to zoom but now it seems to zoom at random with just one press.
The other small improvements to the factory browser are pretty nice but I'm not sure what's going on here.
I Googled this issue and even tried to look up specific JB changes pertaining to the stock Android browser but haven't seen anything about single touch zoom or rather random zoom.
Any thoughts (besides just download xyz browser)?

Your touching the left or right side of the screen, slide up is zoom in, slide down is zoom out....was trippin me out to until I figured out where to touch. Allows for one finger zoom and works in dolphin as well, prolly other browsers but haven't tested any yet.

Excellent that seems to be correct. Thank you. It was driving me crazy.

Does anyone know how to disable this? I HATE IT!
^ this..
Bump. I hate this as well. It's redundant when we already have a gesture for zooming: pinching. And we can't afford to waste any more screen real estate on our phones.
Ditto
hope there's an option soon to disable. hate going to stock email app, opening an email, wanting to scroll through fast to read but instead zoom that thing large enough for my great grandmother to read. And it always seems easier for me to zoom in rather than zoom out. hahaha
Too annoying!
Hard to believe there is no option to disable this obnoxious annoyance. I'm fairly new to Android but if this was my old winmo I'd scour the registry and surely locate an entry to tweak.
Is there somewhere similar on the Android filesystem or through the terminal I could begin to look for a tweak?

I think I read in the MOAR thread that it was disabled in MA6.
Android is hard-coded. Samsung are morons.

What I am finding is the Android environment is pretty much all hard-coded. So unless the developer have you a setting where you could flip a switch, you're stuck with it, or you are downloading customs from here.
I actually like the slide zoom feature although as others have stated, at first I thought there was a bug that was causing it to zoom on its own. l suspect, like you I am used to using the slider in Windows at the right edge to scroll down the page of email.
Anyway, I have since gotten used to it and now am not going to perform the update to MA6/MB1 because I depend on it for one handed email.
What is most frustrating is to know they know it is a hard-coded environment and they could have just as easily added a switch to disable the feature (which by the way is undocumented - and Samsung chat support will tell you doesn't exist) rather than to simply disable. it.

Ah, so they did disable it. I was going nuts trying to figure out why it no longer worked. I was actually starting to like it too- it was pretty handy for one-handed browsing. They should've just kept it as a settings option.
