Linux Ubuntu 8.04 on android - Touch HD Android Development

Hi, im installing Ubuntu 8.04 to my HTC Blackstone, i change startup.txt and im open the aplication is says communicat " Waiting for SD Card" Sorry for my bad english, i'm from Poland
My Startup txt is here :
Code:
set mtype 2030
set KERNEL zImage
set initrd initrd.gz
set cmdline "lcd.density=240 msmts_calib=0x395.0x3c9.0x79.0x77 clock-7x00.a11=500 msmvkeyb_toggle=off pmem.extra=1 gsensor_axis=-2,-1,3"
boot

Hi, did you take a look here?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=640785
It's for rhodium but works on blackstone also.

Thanks man.
Is fast run on blackstone ?
Im installing Rhodium linux on my HTC Touch HD and is viewing communicat "Unable to handle kernel null pointer terefere"

I din'd test the last release, but the one before was faster than I would expect on a mobile like ours. You'll like it.

Jaunty_11_04_2010.7z - This relase is ok and not have a error ?
@ This version is the same error ;/ " Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer derefere "
I download this archive, and im copy files to my storage card, and im open to hartet.exe
Maybe my config is bad?

I got Rhobuntu to boot but once the GUI is loaded, I can't click on the task bar because the pointer won't go down that far.
Is there anything useful about booting Ubuntu on Blackstone or is it just for fun?

For Blackstone, edit your startup.txt as follows:
set ramsize 0x10000000
set ramaddr 0x10000000
set mtype 2030
set FBDURINGBOOT 0
set KERNEL zImage
set initrd initrd.gz
set cmdline "wl1251_mac=Your_MAC_address modupdate=false recalibrate=false msmts_calib=0x9f.0x39a.0x35c.0x78 lcd.density=240 msmvkeyb_toggle=off clock-7x00.a11=500 htc_hw.force_cdma=0 msm_fb.fix_x=1 pmem.extra=1 gsensor_axis=2,1,3 pm.sleep_mode=1"
boot

I change the startup.txt on this, and is now saying communicat :
Waiting for SD Card..
I have standard card on HTC 8gb

Try backup the data on your memory card and format the card as fat32. Unzip the contents of the Jaunty package so that you have clean files to work with again. (no failed boots)
Edit the startup.txt as seen in my message above and change the wl1251_mac with your phone's mac address.
Copy the following into the root of your memory card:
haret.exe, initrd.gz, startup.txt, Ubuntu.img, zImage
Run haret on the phone!
I hope this works for you!

this files must be copy to root folder?
Ok im trying to free time
@ Ehh..
Im formating my sd card to FAT32, i change the mac adress and just copy this files to root folder ( Fresh unpacking files from jaunty archive )
screen :
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
my startup.txt is there:
Code:
set ramsize 0x10000000
set ramaddr 0x10000000
set mtype 2030
set FBDURINGBOOT 0
set KERNEL zImage
set initrd initrd.gz
set cmdline "wl1251_mac=00-18-41-EA-9A-E6 modupdate=false recalibrate=false msmts_calib=0x9f.0x39a.0x35c.0x78 lcd.density=240 msmvkeyb_toggle=off clock-7x00.a11=500 htc_hw.force_cdma=0 msm_fb.fix_x=1 pmem.extra=1 gsensor_axis=2,1,3 pm.sleep_mode=1"
boot
And is now communicat : Waiting for sd card...

Yes it is correct that all the files should be in the root of your memory card.
It seems that Rhobuntu does not work with your memory card.
In my case, I did everything the same way that you did it and everything works. The only difference is, I am using a 4GB class 6 MicroSDHC.

And another ubuntu is does work on my card??

Hi all,
I've got a problem, that I cannot move mouse on taskbar. I can move it through whole screen but a few mm before taskbar mouse stops

Are you sure you have a good startup.txt for blackstone? Sounds like you don't, and the calibration params don't fit your screen. Same happened to me (sorry, I can't find this settings now, but search the rhobuntu forum)

with gparted no problem at 3years old kid
Just download http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php burn using nero ar other burner boot cd and make as you need. You must change in bios boot priorities to start use cd. NO install need, after booting a cd you get temporary linux from cd. When you turn off cd from your pc - xp returns back.

I advice you to get magic partition manager (perfect for windows plateforms)
and format all the sdcard :
a fat32 partition
a ext2/3/4 partition of maximum 1Gb (best performances)
Enjoy it _ hope it helps you

[Q] Setting kernel parameters on startup (without using any app)?

I'm using LeanKernel 4.5 and i'd like to change governor, scheduler and some other minor parameters using sysfs. My linux understanding is quite basic.
I can easly check current values using adb (a list of sysfs options is here):
Code:
adb shell
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
I get "interactivex". However, why I can't change it using adb (first question)? This it's not working:
Code:
adb shell
echo powersave > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
And the governor remains "interactivex".
Second question is, how can I make them permanent? Should I modify init.rc script?
You need to be root to change those values. 'su' after 'adb shell'.
Second, your rom needs to support /system/etc/init.d/ scripts.

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Also, I'm using the stock factory images. So you're saying that I will not able to set this values at boot? If yes, how the app SetCPU can?

Add a file at /system/etc/init.d/<filename.extension>. Chmod it to 755 and add the contents below into it(the steps can be done via adb or file manager, its easier via file manager for newbies)
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
echo powersave > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
After that, reboot your phone and check whether the changes has been done or not
To enable init.d, at minimum you need to be rooted though and busybox needs to be installed
Here's a link on how to enable it(you can try whether it works or not first, if it doesn't then only try this one): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933849

disable hardware button backlights

EDIT:
For some reason this isn't surviving reboot like I thought it was, sorry :/
"This drove me nuts after flashing PA 3.00+ as I had an init.d script working before but this is much easier.
Navigate to /sys/devices/i2c-0/0-0066/leds/button-backlight/ in your favourite root explorer
Open brightness and change 255 (if lights are on; 0 if off) to 0 and save. This will turn off the lights. (cli: echo 0 > brightness)
Set permissions to: -r--r--r-- (ie
Code:
chmod brightness 444
as per permissions in this example:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
)
This prevents system from writing 255 to it.
Simples."
Anyone with a working 4.2.2 script would be an amazing help

How about /sys/class/leds/button-backlight (which may be a symlink folder)?

Lol just download the file in my thread, extract it and put the 65disable file in init.d folder, set permissions to the same as the other files and reboot. Works everytime

Which thread/file is that? I've tried a few but see various permissions set in and of the file- what does the 65 file need to be set as, and what should the brightness be set to? Perhaps, as the brightness location is correct:
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
chmod +w /sys/devices/i2c-0/0-0066/leds/button-backlight/brightness
echo 0 > /sys/devices/i2c-0/0-0066/leds/button-backlight/brightness
chmod -w /sys/devices/i2c-0/0-0066/leds/button-backlight/brightness
then maybe my script above isn't executing?

Thanks. For some reason I'd had this file before but couldn't get it working.
750 permissions in my init.d folder set for this file worked.
Wow, I feel so dumb lol, sorry!
Dont touch/edit that file, just put it in the init.d folder and set permissions to the same as the other files then reboot. Its worked for me in every rom iv tried and trust me iv tried them all lol

[TUTORIAL] Bootanimation creating and porting guide

As a request from some XDA members I made this guide,
so if you made a bootanimation using this method share it with us here.
what you need to get started
For Creating a Bootanimation :
Winrar/7zip
Notepad
An Editing software – I Use photoshop
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
So Bootanimation is simply a collection of .png/.jpg pictures Stored into a zip file.
If you opened a bootanimation.zip you’ll find this :
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And sometimes there’s another folder there “part2”
folders like part0, part1, etc... Store .png/.jpg pictures of the Bootnaimation
the desc.txt file contains all the necessary info like resolution fps, etc …
As you can see in the image :
The Resolution
The FPS (Frame per second) “the higher the faster” normal should be 24fps or 30fps
A pointer to look at new commands
Specifies the number of times this section will play ( 0 means infinite)
Defines pause in seconds before repeating or moving to the next line (0 means no pause)
Names of folder that contain your .png/.jpg files
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Notion : Usually, part0 is The Beginning animation, part1 is The Loop animation and part2 is Shutdown animation.
Let’s start by creating a Simple Bootanimation :
Create a folder and name it “bootanimation”
Create another folder inside the previous one and name it “part0”
Now it's time for you to start creating your own one, for a simple beginning, using Photoshop, create black image with the resolution of 400*800
Save it as a PNG and Name it 000.png
Now (in Photoshop) add a layer over the black image and set opacity to 10%
And again Save it as a PNG and Name it 001.png
Keep doing this till you reach 100% opacity
Now create another folder inside botanimation\ and name it part1 (here you’ll do the loop animation)
Keep creating images inside this folder (use your mind )
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
When you finish that.. it’s time to create the desc.txt file :
Open notepad and type this
Code:
480 800 24
p 1 0 part0
p 0 0 part1
Save it to this directory bootanimation\ (not inside part0 folder)
Now compress them using winrar into a zip file
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Important : SET COMPRESSION METHOD TO STORE or else your bootanimation won’t work
Congratulations! you just made your own bootanimation.. Remember to share it with us
For Porting a Bootanimation :
coming soon..
Thanks for the thread
