No need to read... I am just gonna vent a little - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

I was fooling myself that I got great phone, but I am done as of now... windows mobile is a piece of broken, plastered together laggy piece of ****. No miracle ROM is going to change that. I have spent $350 on a piece of garbage. I am waiting for a Iphone 4G and going to buy some more AAPL shares. Thanks to all the Chefs and great community here for at least trying to make this miserable phone work a little bit better.
Good luck everybody

How long did you have your device? I know your tired of it but Athine OS ROM may give it a fresh breath.
Why Apple? I mean that Sh*& is SOO locked down! you will likely have to jailbrake it to as much as tether(simular on windows/android but you dont have to boot connected to black box or PC)
And i do sympathize with you about WinMo it is laggy out of the box. myself I enjoy tweaking and learning how it ticks.
However if i may i would like to suggest the evo 4g. its android. people who know know. you know?
my beef with apple is while i like my apple II C i did not pay for it and ill never give them a cent. good luck running flash with Iphone 4g as they pissed off adobe and simply wont support it out of the box.
Now as for Windows Phone 7 thats just garbage! its so sad to see the HD3 coming out with that. poor thing wont be able to multi task or copy/paste!
Now I only use windows on a PC when I absolutely HAVE to other than that im on Linux.
The evo 4g and iphone 4g will debut around the same time (June/2010) and HD3 will come out when it does, i dont remember when.
In summary it cool to have beef with Microsoft but go Linux(Android) first NOT Apple!!
Thats my vent thanks if you read it have a great day

I have had my phone for 9 months. Long enough to express my opinion. Rhodium is great phone, best keyboard I have seen. You said that WinMo is great for tweaking, but I need my phone to work, funny that is has been advertised a business phone.
I don't want to tweak it, I want it to work. I need to take pictures wile on the job, email or MMS them to my partner, listen to streaming music while traveling between the work sites and use calendar. Is it too much to ask ? I have tried to use use iphone for week, it just works, I can do everything... no stress UI just flows, fast responsive, emailing taking pictures and listenig to online radio , everything working right out of the box. Paypal, grooveshark they dont even have applications for WinMo.... this OS is falling into obscurity and they don't want to put their applications on it. I feel like an imbecile that i fell work "business" marketing garbage. I will definitely look into evo 4g, but I am not going back to WinMo. Anybody wants to buy a Rhodium ?

Not that my suggestion will make any difference, but if you want a plain phone that just works throw HTC Sense into the virtual recycle bin...HTC sense is much more for multimedia than business. There are some great WinMo apps that spruce up the basic today screen to give you quick links. You can also try out Titanium, which a lot of people have done some cool UI stuff with.
You can actually download nanoshark, which I believe is a UI to interact with grooveshark. I've also found (not tested) a paypal software for WinMo in one search: http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-paypal-mobile-by-smarttouch.html
At the end of the day, it seems those who throw in the towels have made up their mind day 1. Best of luck w/ your next phone and I really do hope you think twice about over paying and lining apples pocket.

I had same feelings as you...... BUT!!

I bought my Tilt2 and had it about 6 months and was sick about how it preformed in every way. I taught myself how to flash ROM's by reading forum after forum after forum. Thanks to all the guys on this forum that has made me proud to be an owner of a Tilt2. There are many great ROM's here to try but if you only have time to try just one, please try valkyrie.ftp v6.2.25009TR2.5 you will love your phone. In my area my internet speeds are better than any iPhone I have came across. I take them to mobilespeedtest.com and they are like ... dang man ... now what kind of phone did you say you had. lol Trust me man, b4 you sell your phone or trade it off, try this ROM and let the fun begin ....... been there ..... now loving my Tilt2 .... good luck!!!

if anything go with the EVO 4g...it blows iphone 4g out da water..plus it has two cams for video conferencing and a 4.3 in. AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with pinch to zoom. plus the new wimax frequencies. or that new dell thunder coming out is looking pretty hot right now.
sorry to hear about ur bad experience with WM. after doing the various fixes and patches, my device NEVER lags on the TF3d UI or while in wm. everything works..can easily do all the stuff u said iphone 4g can do with no problems. fixes/patches meaning: memory leak mod, sd tune up, no push internet, dynamic proxy, deleted bloatware, plus my AtmDng 3d driver helps alot.
im due for an official upgrade from at&t. ima eventually let my girl have this one. i want a bigger screen...lol there are some powerhouse devices about to drop this summer and fall. this rhodium is just my training grounds for future devices. i got this as a warranty replacement for my original kaiser/tilt, since they stop makin them or whatever.. wrked out good for me..lol the phone now is a million times better and faster thn when i took it out the box. Go XDA

The Iphone/ipods are designed that anyone from the age of 3 years to 90 years old can pick it up and just use it. Which is great... BUT when you want to do something with it it wasnt originally intended to do you have to wait for their "official updates" or jailbreak your phone which alot of mac-aholics are nervous about. The great thing I have seen about windows phones is dev's have actually developed ways to get the phones up to par with newer models without having to flash and void warranties. This I realized very quickly when I moved from palm to htc and had my Vogue. I was able to get TF2D working on that before TF2D was even released. Now if you still have the Vogue you can actually have it working as a fully fledged android device!
The Touch Pro and Touch Pro 2 were the same. Right now you don't even need to have to flash a custom rom to get sense 2.5 running anymore. They have that all cabbed up for us (mind you I still flash.) Taking programs from other phones and tweaking them to work on ours seems to work fairly easy as well.
You can't do HALF the things possible with the iphones you can do with even the most basic windows mobile phone. The phone thing I thought the Iphone had that was better then the touch pro was the screen size. However, the display resolution was just garbage. That was quickly fixed with the Touch Pro 2 I would say.
Basically think of the Iphone like an automatic car..... then windows mobile phones are more like standard/stick cars. You have more control over what the "Car" can do and when... you can tweak its performance to better suit whatever your need might be.
If you like the Iphone interface guess what... you can download a skin that mimic's it almost exactly!!!

Sent from my AOSP on XDANDROID MSM using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk

I know what you mean, execpt for me it is just the opposite. I got my Tilt 2 after I threw my iPhone across the room because you can't do a damn thing with it unless you jailbreak it and then it never is quiet right. I have a Samsung that is goatbreaked and a Motorola that is modded and now I am learning this Windows Mobile stuff. It is fun and most of the stuff I try actually works. Go figure!!! LoL !!! anyway I guess that is my two cents and to each his own. Good luck with your iPhone if it fits your needs. - Take care

All of these things worked just fine for me out of the box on my ATT Tilt2, and that stock ROM has been blasted as the worst, most bloated version.
And what is so hard about taking pictures with the TP2? Its simple and works great. And low-light photos on the iPhone are absolutely aweful on the iPhone. In a side-by-comparison, indoor low light photos on the TP2 blow away the iPhone.
Going from the TP2 to the iPhone is one end of the spectrum to the other. I'll agree that if you don't like to tweak and customize, than the TP2 is probably not for you. And the iPhone is about as customizable as a microwave oven.

Windows Mobile - I officially am fed up with it

I am over all of the things it CAN do.
All of it's stupid retarded quirks, bugs, and glitches have worn me thin in the patience department for this stupid phone.
The final straw that broke the camels back:
Now for absolutely NO reason on every reboot the WiFi is switched on. Yet it doesn't do anything. The WiFi light blinks and the icon appears but that is it. After around 3 minutes of the phone being on, it switches off by itself.
I have NEVER had this problem before and I haven't changed ANYTHING on my phone for a solid few months.
This is the type of **** I'm talking about. Windows Mobile just breaks itself for no friggin reason other than it is poorly written.
If they had a "Trade your Windows Mobile device for an iPhone" promotion, I would be the first damn person in line.
I am over Windows Mobile and Microsoft in general.

I've been looking into getting a blackberry probably a curve. as long as I can find a device that let me ssh and telnet into the servers I support I'm good.
I have gotten over all the things you can do with it...I actually did a hardreset and really do not have plans on putting too many custom apps onit ...I just want the device to work as intended...the hell with the pizazz
try a symbian based phone. i use one as my second phone. i never reflashed it just works all the time.
Chris
I believe the 3G iPhone is coming out this year. They need one like the touch slide or something. I text too much to consider the iPhone's keyboard.
LOL @ Symbian based phone... A few of us have tried it with "smart" phones - I, for example, tried it with a Nokia E61. All I can say is - good luck... The software you can get for the symbian pretty much all sucks and looks like it was written for Windows 3.1 (and as a software developer I know why - the way software is written for Symbian OS couldn't possibly be more quirky); the menu system looks and feels like win 3.1, and the OS itself has EVERY BIT as many quirks. Oh - and outlook push? Good luck - they'll say it can do it - have fun with that (haha). Blackberry push? Same there. Office documents? Sure - open them... Have fun editing and then trying to re-open desktop side. The *only* thing symbian does better, in my opinion, is allow syncing with more than one PC - but since I have outlook push to my 8525, that's not an issue for me anyway
I tried and tried to love my symbian. In the end, I unloaded that turd for less than $100 US on eBay and bought my 8525 - which SMOKES the symbian based E61.
Thats my 2.5 cents worth -

Like I said it's a second phone (actually my wife's) it takes good pictures and can do more than the average phone. I actually like the camera better, when you click the button it actually takes the picture. MP3 ringtones actually work flawlessly from the sd card. I wish MS and HTC could get those 2 issues right. Otherwise, I really enjoy tweaking my phone and installing ton's of useless stuff to waste my time....LOL... I started with my MPX200 and after my backlight broke for the 10th time I grabbed the symbian phone, only to end up back with a MS based phone. MS is just too big to avoid. Could be better, but I still like the fact that I can customize till my heart is content....even with the bugs..keeps my adrenaline flowing....lol
Chris
Gotta agree.... symbian no way. Lived with it for ages on my SE P900 and it did rock but the support was garbage!
Moved on to the TyTN as a gamble and it was totally worth it.
Funny you guys mention that, I'm looking to get a Nokia E51 as my going out phone. I need something "smart" and small. Despite what you say, I love the navigation compared to Windows Mobile Smartphone (WM 6 Standard). You're telling me 5 different "more" pushes to get through settings? Screw that.

=) There are different followings. I love Windows Mobile... as long as it has a touch screen. I've played with many of the WM Standard (and by standard, I mean non-touchscreen devices) devices released in the states, and they all seem cumbersome as hell. Recently played with a Blackjack II and it had literally 7 pages in settings. In my opinion, Symbian (S60) and BlackBerry have the non touchscreen OS market on lock. Whats the point of functionality if it takes too long to find it?
irockash I just bought an E51. It is one of the best and most capable phones I have ever had - for it's size especially. I am originally a Symbian fan, but once I was introduced to Windows Mobile 2 and a half years ago I bought little else but HTCs. I have to say, that every once in a while I go back to Symbian for a try - namely the latest Nokias - N82, E51 etc, and they are really trouble-free compared to WM. They don't freeze up, they work flawlessly, and generally run faster than MW phones. Unfortunately there's no Skype for Symbian - you have to use 3rd party apps like Fring, and they work alright. I have to say however that at the end of the day I would have to choose WM over Symbian if I want to have a SERIOUS phone with loads of functionality - the Nokias like the N82 are super because of the 5mega-pixel camera and very good video recording, but give me my WM anyday - and I mean HTC ONLY! I guess each of us has our preferences.
I have both a symbian (SE W950i) and wm phone (hermes)...
Simply put, Symbian is no where near WM as far as customization, flexibility, and support is concerned. Symbian is just too plain and bland, and the W950i freezes way more than my hermes, not to mention that occasionally I can't even pick up phone calls. What's worse....I cannot do anything about since I can't mess with the firmware.
OTOH, cooking WM is easy if you spend some time studying it. I can do almost whatever I want with it. Most "problems" people encounter has to deal with the Rom's stability + application installed.
I would never go back since using my WM touch screen phones. My wife can't figure it out though. Her 6682 runs without reboot though for about 2 weeks when the battery dies...lol. Then I find it in the car and charge it so I can call her sometimes....lol. It's simpler for her to use, but it's not near as capable as my phone. It's better than the free phones most people typically have. So if I was techno dyslexic I would go for the symbian phones.
MS squashed the competition and will keep it that way. Even the IPhone 2 is promising, but MS will squash them too. Thanks to Apple for reving up the competition though! (Bill Gates owns half of them anyway)
So if I had to give up WM, I'd be bored for awhile........ I would suggest loading a good reliable rom & don't load anything else. yeah right....
Agreed! Well said! I had an N82 for 3 days - I mean the camera IS on par with a DEDICATED digital camera - even for night photos - but the functionality and flexibility of WM phones are UNBELIEVABLE and that's what I'd go for if I had to choose only ONE of the two OSs and have it for the rest of my life. Regardless of the little idiosyncracies - Windows Mobile ROCKS!
Also, as a serious audiophile, I really really urge that people think TWICE, or TRICE, before jumping on WALKMAN phone. I bought the w950i as I only paid a little over $200 for it new, and it has 4gb built-in. I'd expected the sound quality to be at least as good as some MP3 players....boy was I wrong..my Hermes + SRS WOW with Stock earbuds beat the crap out of the walkmanphone with whatever EQ on it, even if I amped the phone and use it along with my Sennheiser HD600, there's still no match at all. I immediately felt stupid for buying that phone. Fortunately, the phone was for my GF so it didn't bother me too much and she didn't seem to care too much about Sound Quality, convenience was all that matters to her. As for me, WM, hands down. I wouldn't mind playing with an iphone after it gets matured. ATM, there's just so many things that's lacking on it...undeniably, the UI is great...Apple's always good with UI and design..a very innovative company indeed. And TBH, I thought HTC's Apps played a great deal of a role in keeping the competition up. If WM looks like WM5/Stock WM6....I wouldn't be surprised that WM would slowly get crushed by Apple in the future.
I will probably jump ship to when an 3G Iphone is available and I see that you can actually install 3d party apps on it.
I did however see the new Samsung I780 and it looks very nice, small formfactgor, localised proper keyboard, 3G, Wifi, bt, GPS and touchpad like on a notebook to control stuff..
I've been a WM user for a long time. I used to lurk on the forums waiting for all of the new roms waiting to install them all. I also used to try out EVERY new 3rd party app that hit the market. I've been a long time member here, in fact my registration here is the longest standing for any website I'm actually active on.
It pains me to leave it all though. I'm buying an iPhone in the next couple of weeks. When it first came out, I still had my "Well who cares, I've got my good old HTC" mindset but have seen it perform better for the purposes I have reduced to using my phone for.
I want to be clear on what those purposes are, I listen to alot of podcasts and audio books. I also do alot of email and text messaging. Thats pretty much it. I don't need a great camera or fast Internet. with that said, the iPhone handles the audio that has become such a big part of my phone usage over the past year better than any WM device ever built.
How can you go wrong with a 160dpi 3.5" multi-touch screen anyways?

My girlfriend got a blackberry curve a few months ago and I am amazed by how FAST and how WELL it works. Makes me jealous I'm stuck with this bloated troll known as Windows Mobile.
I definetly sympathize with you on this topic - many of times lately I've scoured the AT&T website debating to get a phone that I CAN'T flash 30 frigging times a day - just so I can lead a normal life again.
I think it boils down to what you want it to do. I like to have the flexibility to shape it any and every way I can, and try to find a way around something that doesn't work well. Some people prefer simple and reliable.
'Tis a rough blade edge to manuver, but here we dance on it every day

I live in Japan, home of some really slick phones that never make it to Europe or the states. Most people look at my Tytn and say things like, "its so clunky!" and "what?! it doesn't have a TV tuner?!"
But recently I sent my Tytn away for servicing (HTC refused me by the way, caught me out with a different bootloader) and it was away for a week. They gave me one of those slick phones as a replacement and I totally went into withdrawal. It felt like when I was quitting smoking and the replacement phone was like that nicorette gum - necessary and yet sooo unsatisfying. For me Matt, there is no more "normal life" to go back to.
Iphone is really, really nice. But in the end it is going to be just like Mac computers. With WM and with Windows, I can do what I want, how I want, when I want (and usually for free). Iphone and OSX trade these freedoms for a smoother, cleaner and more stable system. It is a fair trade-off and may fit some people's needs, but I'll take the former any day.

Why the dash?

Im an ex T-Mobile Dash user, now upgraded to the G1. My question is why are you guys still fooling around with a phone that's almost 4 years old? There are such better phone out there. What is it about the dash that makes you guys so in love with it?
Don't know what exactly, but i have used a S200, a Hermes, a Kaiser and a diamond. And I always go back to the excalibur.
Sure a Kaiser is nice, as is the diamond, but I just love the Dash. think I allready had a dozen of them.buy broken ones from ebay, repair them, use them for some months, resell them when I got a better looking one. you can buy the broken once really cheap and mostly only the screen has to be repaired. And a simlock is removed in no time thanx to Jocky
I just don't like a touchscreen for daily use.

First of all the G1 is no upgrade LOL its a downgrade from the Dash, its nothing to brag about. I look at the G1 as I do sidekicks, pretty useless, but a cute toy.
I keep my Dash because at the moment its still the best. If the s522 (Maple, Snap whatever its going to be called) hits T-Mo and lives up to even half of the hype around it, then I may box up the old Dash.. we will have to wait and see.
well....
I think it comes down to what you need, I can do everything that I need to with my Dash: pop email, exchange mail, google maps, streaming radio, music, tv shows from my storage card, weather, appointments, reminders, tasks, games. I'm sure that I left out a lot more things, but really that's all I need. Ever since I purchased a 16 gig card and a extended battery that doesn't stick out from the back, I've been nothing but happy with my phone. The G1 might seem like a step up, but I have no real complaints about the dash. I've always felt that the next phone I'd get would have to be leaps and bounds better than the dash, and so far I don't see much that's worth buying along with the higher rates for data. The HTC touch pro 2 might be a worthy upgrade, so lets wait and see.
Milodog
forgot to mention
I forgot to mention that if you compare the G1 with a regular dash, then I would side with the G1, but with the help of this forum our dash's are tweaked like crazy, which is absolutely awesome, I've never had so much fun with a phone. take care
Milodog
just like you, even now you have a G1 still coming back to see the development and exploitation with our dash. how come
because the dash is usefull and its tweaked as i want it so i could use it it the way i want it
G1 not a good example of a phone lol, i use Tilt far more tweakable than G1 Still think the Dash kicks ass for an SP it's old but it's exemely functional, can be modded to user specification and is a 1/4 price of a G1....
My question would be "Why not a Dash?"

Agree my friend!
Apart from the love link one creates with a nice device like S621 exist the fact that some users don´t have the $ to change device every year, so oldest does not means bad, in fact there are some great old devices that to date still rocking even better than the new ones! Example? My Universal! and my S621!
Also Android OS is so young... I would not change to it till it has a more mature/twekable/customizable platfrom, meantime I´ll stick to WM withh al it´s defects

Amen! Nuff Said
There are other 'phones?
family
I think the main reason I still use the dash is because the family is just so massive, theres no other phone out there thats 4 years old that ppl still use and still want to come out with new roms and new programs for and everyone is just so friendly and supportive to keeping it alive
Why not the Dash?
For me, its a question of money. Firstly, I got into the drivers seat of the Dash for free, with no strings attached, literally. Yes, the Dash was $99 dollars, but My rebate Visa debit card for $100 is shipped as we speak, so basically I made a dollar on the deal. I would have had to pay $199 for the G1 with a two year contract, and me wants nothing to do with that, at least not at the moment.
Secondly, this is my first venture into smartphones or PPC's. I have a long history of standard phones, Moto V3re, Samsung hue, heck, even my Moto V190 is still working fine. I am willing to monkey around with the Dash more than I would, say, the G1. When I do get the G1 I won't be modding it at all, better believe that. I don't mind messing with the Dash, because if I brick it, I am really not out anything. I will in no way tinker with a more higher end smartphone or PPC that I am sure I will purchase when I tire of the Dash.
Thirdly, the Dash has everything and all that I want for the moment just starting to delve into the smartphone realm. I mean, WiFi, instant sync with my home comp., no problems when syncing with my laptop on the road for internet access, instant mail and messaging, PDA like functionality, I mean, the list goes on on and on. Oh, and did I mention, the qwerty keyboard one hand operation.
Granted, I know my Dash is a grandpa in this era of the new punks of superphones that are coming out practically every day. I know my Dash is antiquated and soon to be on T-Mobs chopping block. And I know that it goes just the same as computers, the day you buy it, it is already outdated. But, I love my Dash.
Let me turn your question around. Why *not* the Dash?
It's a well built smartphone, that runs the latest version of Windows (thanks to the guys at this forum) as well as the new phones. Additionally, the cost of entry or replacement is minimal.
I own mine, and have only about $50 in it, total. I use it with an ATT SIM, which means that my other options would have included a GoPhone...I have no desire to be under contract with any company.
So, why not a Dash?
4 years seems like a lot, but when you consider that the actual insides of most WM Smartphones haven't changed significantly...including the amount of RAM (are you listening, HTC?)...then why not just go for a well supported, good looking, and remarkably cheap phone that does everything we want it to...and which puts the "glamour" phones like the RAZR and BlackBerry to shame?
Chuck
so now you know!

Im an ex T-Mobile Dash user, now upgraded to the G1. My question is why are you guys still fooling around with a phone that's almost 4 years old? There are such better phone out there. What is it about the dash that makes you guys so in love with it?

Compared to my Kaiser, the Excaliburs keyboard is much easier to use. I gave my Excalibur to my son, but there are times I want it back. Only thing that really eliminates the Ex for me is the lack of GPS. The camera on the Ex is actually much beter than the Kaiser as well. Hopefully, they address this with the Touch Pro 2. Touch screen is handy, but it can be annoying at times too.
Why not?
Best phone I've had, even when I look at my iPhone.

You obviously have no clue what your talking about. The dash is a thing of the past and although i love my dash it isn't even in the same league as the g1. I know we all love our dashes but it is no upgrade over the g1 don't kid yourself. The g1 and sidekicks are 2 way different phones and i can say that because i have owned both. Sidekick is for messaging and email. Its obvious you don't own either a sidekick or g1 cause you compare them as if they are the same phone. Yes they both have keyboards, that's where it ends. I'm not being a jerk man don't get me wrong but saying a g1 is a downgrade from dash is like saying rotary phones are an upgrade over touch dial phones.

G1 not a good example of a phone lol, i use Tilt far more tweakable than G1 Still think the Dash kicks ass for an SP it's old but it's exemely functional, can be modded to user specification and is a 1/4 price of a G1....
My question would be "Why not a Dash?"

I still have mine so i love both. I know you don't have a g1 so your comments really don't hold much weight, but the g1 is fully customizable now and will only get better. The g1 is a real phone, don't really understand how you 2 can speak on a phone you don't use. The only reason i'm commenting is because i have used all and own both g1 and dash. You know i respect you very much man so don't take my comments as an insult k? Don't mean it that way and thats directed towards both of you.
Had a Dash, supposedly "upgraded" to G1, then "downgraded" to Dash. Used both, Dash won.

TP2 vs iPhone

Is there any reason to stick with this phone?
I just picked up the AT&T Tilt2 from LetsTalk.com for free and I still feel like I got ripped off.
I've used WinMo since the days of the Velo and upgraded from the Tilt to the Tilt2 and I think I'm sick of Windows Mobile trying to figure out what it wants to be. Since the Tilt they took away the dedicated camera button and the option to use led notifications. I wanted to try another ROM this weekend but I can't Hard-SPL. Won't work for nothing.
As per iPhone vs this thing.
Phone comes is no storage space.
(I need to pick up a 16gig card for $40. iPhone comes with 32gig in this price point.)
The phone starts at 85% and I can't run more than one app.
(I killed TF3d push and the proxy to get back some ram)
I can't hear the other person. The earpiece is totally muffled.
(Will probably need to replace phone.)
Caller shows as "unknown" during call.
HTC notification stops working and I get the WinMo bubble so I have to reset.
Browsers suck. Apps suck. Marketplace sucks and I think installs to device memory only.
Did I miss anything?

You going to be transferring movies or songs with your 32gig iPhone? Only place your going to watch them is on the phone. Look at it another way you now cant have removable storage if you get an iPhone.

Don't know what you talking about I have more then 50% of my ram left and I am using a stock rom.

I personally like this browser over the iPhone, the pinch feature is nice but we have a zoom bar. Get at&t in the Chicago land area and you will see how much at&t's net work really sucks.

Well the iPhone will be better for you then, since Apple knows exactly what they want you to do with their phone, whether you like their decisions or not.
But I don't want to be a gay apple follower. I don't own anything Apple and don't want to start buying all new power cords because they likes to rape their customers.
Help me keep this phone. Why won't it work! My Toshiba e800 still works. This phone is driving me nuts!
Have you guys seen how Google Reader works on the iPhone and even Android?
What is the point of these threads? You obviously were destined to hate the TP2 because you think the iPhone does everything perfectly. 85% RAM on bootup? Thats a lie. So are all your other problems. Just return it, get an iPhone, and go away.
FYI this board is anything but friendly.......so is the whole internet......actualy the whole human race is stroking it epeen to much to care about anyone elses issues.

I did exchange my phone in store, ... 2 times. Same thing.
Some improvement noted after changing "Treble Level" to "
Very High" in the "HTC Audio Booster" Section of Advanced Configuration Tool v3.3
I wasn't destined to hate this phone.
This is probably the best design on the market right now. Hardware wise this things blows away the iPhone except for the storage. This thing is pretty slick but I'm having problems using the device and you guys are getting all defensive.
I made an educated decision and chose this phone but I'm having a whole bunch of problems which I guess no one else is and this phone just doesn't feel up to the competition. Even Android does more than this thing.
All your complaints have easy solutions for anyone willing to put in even a small amount of effort into searching for and applying tweaks and/or adjustments. If you're not willing to do that then you belong in apple zombieland.
Nothing against the iPhone (I actually own a 32gb iPhone 3GS), it's just some people need to stick to something that works a specific way with little to no need of intelligence to get it working right. Sounds like your there target customer. No offense intended.

Thanks. Trying that.
dude keep the tilt 2, take it from me. I have been using WinMo since the Hermes, had the tilt before this, then I used my upgrade and decided to try out the iPhone. I picked up the iPhone 32 GB 3GS, a case, and a car charger.
After using the iPhone for less than a day, it was very obvious that it needed to be jailbroken in order to have some features that I have become accustomed to. So I jailbroke it, downloaded Cydia (which is the 'underground' app store for jailbroken phones), and tried to make it work. Long story short, I had it for 10 days before I needed to come back to WinMo. Apple has iPhone users by the nuts, and because of that the phone is extremely restrictive. Basic features like changing the background, or being able to have more than 1 (can still only have 2 max) app open. Not to mention Safari does not and will most likely not ever support Flash. There aren't any browsers that do, and there's 1 app that supports a hand full of sites. Not yet break, and other popular ones.
Jailbreaking and apple is like cat and mouse. They release firmware updates regularly and it usually take several weeks (give or take) until somebody creates a jailbreaking app. For those weeks you would be forced to live without your needed apps......unless you hold off on the update. But the thing with holding off is their last few big updates came with features that I've had for YEARS. Example: PICTURE TEXTS!! MMS!! I mean come on, wtf is that?
The battery life was the deciding factor for me. My phone would have 100% charge around 2:00 AM when I would go to bed and by 8:30 AM it was down to 91'ish. Throughout the day the battery would be extremely low and require a charge. To be honest with you the battery life is despicable. That thing needed to be charged more in 1 day than I would get in my tilt all weekend, I kid you not. It's that bad. Even my die hard iPhone friends always ***** about how crappy the battery life is.
I would say hang on to the tilt 2 for a little bit longer. I'm really diggin the Touch FLO 3D interface. I never really ran it on my tilt because it was always a little laggy, but it's smooth like butter right out of the box. I want to hold off flashing ROM's for a while but I know it's only a matter of time. There's a lot of good ones out there, make sure to check them out. If you are having trouble Hard SPL'ing I'm sure if you ask on the forum, it will get answered.
The iPhone was too restrictive for me, and trust me I really tried to like it. I wanted to like it so bad. I was sick of the Tilt. It was laggy, and ever since ROMeOS (monx) left the Kaiser ROM cooking for rhodium I couldn't find a ROM that I really liked. I am looking forward to flashing one of his roms on this phone, but to be honest I'm going to hold off because it's running extremely smooth. I use IE, Opera, and SkyFire. There's a handful of other ones you can try too.
That's my 2 cents

I have both phones - iPhone 3GS & the Tilt2 (& others). Totally agree with you on the restrictions and the suffocation I feel every time I use the iPhone. But again, it is for a certain market/usage scenario. Nothing against that..
But the battery life is definitely not as bad as you saw. Before iPhone OS 3.0, battery life sucked (I stayed back on a very old 2.x version). To stretch battery, I kept all radios (Wifi, 3G, etc) on manual control and switched them on as necessary. Things are definitely better with 3.0 - all the radios are on Auto now. I dread going to 3.1 or 3.2. I'm staying put for some time now..
I love WM and was waiting for the Tilt2 (My first PPC, touchscreen/keypad device). Google's lack of love for WM saddens me, but hey, there's always another way - thats what makes WM special..
Interestingly, I'm (sorta) having a battery problem with the Tilt2 on Stock ROM. Battery full charge lasts me 1.5 to 1.75 days max. I want to get atleast 2 full days on the fresh/brand new battery. I'm playing with the settings in the Advanced config & Touch Diamond2 apps this weekend to see if I can improve on the battery life. Again, not a biggie as I can always get a second battery with it's own charger. I'm still in the "optimizing" mode. And there is always the path blazed out by our esteemed cooks.. ^hat tip..
superrrguy, WM takes time, but hey you can get what you want.. iPhone (even with the app store or jail break, etc) is what Steve wants for you. Again, not a bad thing. You need to decide whats your thing..

Same here. There's no fix for that on Tilt 2 yet. (only Touch Pro unlocked ver, which doesn't seem to work for Tilt 2). Also the "unknown caller" issue has no fix either yet. The stock browsers are pretty bad too. Using Opera Mini, Skyfire or flashing a new ROM will solve. It takes a little patience working with Tilt2 but is worth it. Still love it

Look in this Forum for ideas about tweeking your Tilt 2 to function as you like. Start by getting rid of all the AT&T Crapware - it does kill the memory. I've killed about 60% of it, and now I have 35% available when up and running, which sounds aweful, but this phone does more with that than any WinMo phone I've had since the MPx200! It flies!
All the other issues are either faulty hardware or easily tweeked - look in the forums and you'll find the fix to your issues.
You won't be able to change ANYTHING you like on the iPhone, so don't switch unless it's Nirvana to you, or you are willing to give Apple total control over your phone. Your choice, but either way, please, less winging and more action, many others have made the same helpful suggestions yet you persist in crying over the same issues that you could have fixed yourself by now. If you're a noob, then welcome, but please say so, so we can offer more basic advice.
Either way, good luck, everyone deserves a good phone that they like!

35%? with touch flo 3d?
im using miri's 6.5 manilla 2.1 rom and its 65% when no program is running -____-
I think one of the problems of built-in memory is if the phone needs servicing for some reason and the phone cannot be turned on and you cannot delete the personal data of the phone, then you risk the data will go to the wrong hand.
For TP2, I would simply take out the SD card before I would send the phone to any service centre.
The Tilt2 is a powerhouse workhorse for the business oriented consumer. The iPhone is a toy. Do you want to be associated with all those teens at the local mall carrying around iPhones? I tried out the iPhone. It is definitely fun for the games but I was not able to be productive on it. When I exchanged it for the Tilt2, the AT&T clerk could not understand why I would want to trade in my iPhone for the Tilt2. The Tilt2 is NOT for the average consumer. You have to tweak it to get it to work to your liking.

About the earpiece sound quality issue, mine sounds great (out of the box). So I suspect the OP has a defective unit.

bye bye touch pro 2

so after 3 weeks of hangin on this forum and spending all my free time learning the phone to do the tricks i want it to.
or even to work straight for more than 3 days without reset i returned my phone and got a blackberry bold 9700
since it suits my needs more.
ill wait till the HD2 comes out here in US
it was a great phone (in theory) but in practice it was kinda bulky, unresponsive, umm kinda useless for me personally.
i felt like i was using windows 95 again.
program errors every day at least one
freezing constantly
setting up email every week because it stops receiving mail
then hardware wise:
no camera flash, and quality is not so great for being 3.2mp(ive had much better)
no headphone jack mmkay
forget about one hand use nless you got girl fingers, nut then it wil be too heavy to hold.
the mein reason is actually what alot of you guys should consider is how much time u spend tweaking, modding,FIXING, your phone VS. how much time you spend actually using your phone
with this phone it was 80/20 ratio which is not what i bough the phone for.
blackberry it was about 30/80 which was pretty satisfying for me.
I guess windows mobile isn't for everyone, nor is the tp2. Enjoy your new device.

Shame to hear your bad experience
For me, spending my time here customizing and learning it´s pleassure!
You must really like modding your device, otherwise you always con go for iphoney, crackberry or any other "ready to use" brand
Rhodium is a great device for me
Its all about taste i guess
Its all about taste i guess, .. i used to have a Motorola RAZR V8, Linux-Based, ... and i used to MOD the shi*t out of it, i really liked that, even though that the battery life was really bad, but i liked it cuz it was mood-able. after that i bought nokia E75, not much i could do with it but adding themes and apps, .. its really reliable, and fast, but its kindda boring when you cant do anything but the original functions
anyway, . .wish you good luck with your BB mate!

Couldnt Agree More. I Mod My Phone Everyday. Its Only So Much To DO With A iPhone/Blackberry. Im Bout To Get The HD2 Though.
well it was mostly because of speed of the device.
im probably the most ADD pc user i know. most of the time people have no idea what im doing on the PC because i have so many windows open and i go thru them very quickly when im doing something. and they sit there like wtf.
so blackberry OS is a lil snappier. out of the box it has most features that i need without tweaking...
i do want the HD2 when it comes out but its probably gonna be expeeeensive.
and like i said i bought the phone so i can use it not spend all time modding it. i did that with my sony ericsson and once i was done. the new one came out that had all the features so. i could spend my 6 months just saving up some money for new one and do something else.
Some people go buy a new toyota and some people go find old chevys to restore
it is kinda like a muscle car to tweak.
I still miss my wizard. made that thing run faster than a Kaiser... or this tp2.
I kept coming back to windows because the OS and OEM are so tweakble. I dont have problems teathering internet to my laptop... in fact it is like having a mini laptop.
I think that as soon as the new rom comes out for T-mo I will do everything I did on my wizard to make it run as fast as I want it to, even if it takes a month. (which it did) I keep hearing people complain about their Blackberries and IPhones.. "I cant do this; I cant do that" and meanwhile I raise my IQ just problem solving.
Exactly. Some peoples phone are also their hobby, others just want a phone.
Basically my assumption is that ALL windows smart phones will be slow no matter how many new versions and faster cpus there are. It's just windows...lol.
I do agree that other phones such as the iPhone or Blackberry is extremely fast, but when it comes down to modding, you really can't do much...
You're basically stuck with what your phone came with and nothing else.

He he he he......
I can understand why some people like windows mobile and the flexibility to mod and tweak etc., but i'm so tired of windows mobile and their crap OS full of bugs. Yes you can install cooked ROMS and the chefs around here do a great job but when the core code (OS) is crap it brings you back to the same bugs no matter what ROM you're running. For example, SMS on every windows mobile phone i have owned (treo, mogul, touch pro and now tilt 2) has been crap. It's actually worse on my tilt 2 than any of the previous winmo phones I owned. I actually just installed a "hotfix" which is supposed to fix the sluggish/freezing SMS application and either the update didn't install (looked like the install went fine) or the update did absolutely nothing to fix the sms app because my sms app is just as slow as it was before and still freezes. If SMS wasn't such crap on winmo I would stay with a winmo phone but since it's getting worse I'm either going to the Iphone or an android as soon as the androids are released for AT&T.
I absolutely love the TP2 hardware. I love Manilla/Sense when it works. I just want to get my phone set up with the programs I want with the theme/backgrounds I want and leave it alone and let it get my emails, make phone calls, and browse the occasional web page. But simple things that shouldn't cause the phone to lock up, does. Any time I change the Theme on my phone, Sense locks up and I have to soft reset. Winmo has been out for quite a while simple tasks like that should not be an issue. Sometimes after I softreset Sense won't launch and it locks up my phone. Nothing to do but softreset again and hope for the best. I tried installing SPB Shell. Progress bar stuck at 100% for like 30 minutes. Guess something went wrong so I soft reset. Tried uninstalling and the uninstall sticks at 100%. No way for me to get rid of it so I had to hard reset and re-set up my phone. This was after spending an hour researching trying to find a way to get rid of it.
But I finally have my phone looking the way I want it too. All the programs I want installed. We'll see how stable it is now.
Comming from an original TYTN II then moving to an iPhone and then a Blackberry and then an Android phone I really do love the possibilities of the ecosystem of Windows Mobile but with my iPhone, Blackberry, and Android they were so much more stable and easier to live with day to day. One of the things I miss most about the Blackberry platform is the ability to plug it in, and backup the entire device and create a sort of snapshot of that time and day of your config. So if I need to wipe my device I can go back to a point where everything was installed and working the way I wanted it too. This software came with the phone and wasn't something you had to spend 5 hours researching on XDA Developers to see if it's even possible.
I love this web page, it's an invaluable resource with TONS of information. But for those of us who don't quite know all the nomenclature, or know what things will work with what version of Sense/Manilla, or your build of Windows, or that maybe items from the Blackstone will work on your Rhodium, etc it's pretty tough sledding reading and researching trying to figure out what you want to know to do what you want to do. It's almost like there is too much information at times. And the information is presented in a way that only experienced Windows Mobile users know what the heck the information means. And if a new user posts a question they will be told by 3-4 different people that the information is out there if only they would do a search. But as a new user it's hard to search for something when you aren't quite sure what it's called or if it's even possible in the WinMo eco system.
lol thats why i choose a toyota over some beat up chevy.
BECAUSE IT DRIVES and i dont have to spend hours making it work...
had the blackberry for a qwwk not and havent had a single complaint yet.
no freezing up. no need to constantly update it.
no need to go thru registry
blackberry browser is not the best one but it is better because IT WORKS when i need it to, it doesnt frreeze up every time i open it.
sorry guys but you can make all the excuses the fact is, winmo is SLOOOW and buggy.
i didnt pay 600 dollars for a phone that i constantly have to "maintain"
its like buying a 70,000$ mercedes and spending your whole evening trying to work out all the bugs and engine codes instead of driving it... yes the phone is great, lots of potential but what good does it do if it doesnt perform the functions it supposed to?
Why are you still here?
And it isn't Windows Mobile that is slow, it is the crap processor HTC has been using for the past 3 years and has just now finally started using a decent one with the HD2.
Though I do agree it has more bugs than any of its competitors.
Well said!

Rhodium is a great device.
I decided to wait till all 1ghz processor bugs are fixed, then hope a Touch Pro 3 arrives and will upgrade!
But sure this won´t happen till 2011/2012
Meantime I´m enjoying my Rhodium a lot

I certainly agree that the proc is a bit outdated, but not quite that much...the first HTC handset with the Qualcomm 528Mhz chip was the Diamond, released in June '08.
But I have to say, I think the TP2 is a shining example of how much usability can be milked out of even processors that aren't much more than 50% of the speed of what's currently available. I know we're all having secret dreams about a qwerty-slider "TP3/HD3/Nexus2", but until such a beast is announced, you can pry my beloved Rhodium from my cold dead fingers.
I totally agree. You have said a mouth full. I am what you call a begginner. I've had an Excalibur,ATT Fuze and now a Tilt 2. I've modded every single phone more than twice and I knew nothing when I first started. Thanks to Xda-developers. I love my Tilt 2. I wouldn't trated for anything else until something new comes out with a keyboard.
Blackberrys are so borring and Iphones has had its big share of issues. I had the 1st gen and 3G version. Modded that too but nothing comes close to my Tilt 2. Best part of my Tilt 2 is the tilt feature. Set it down and enjoy a movie.
Up to now I have not seen a cell phone with out an issue. Thats why there are people like Xda that come to the rescue. You may see your self in a crackbeery site in need of help.
My point is move on and theres no need for sorrow or goodbyes.
....I´m reading here of slowlyness, hat the phone freezes, and so on....
I have my TP2 now for 3 month....it is my first winmob device.
Have flashed a german custom ROM, and made some tweaks....have installed a lot of apps...
BUT: I think, the phone isnt THAT slow....also my phone doesnt freeze very often.
And, by the way: SMS works very well....!!!

HTC Rhodium still useful in an iPhone/WP7/Android era.

I still love my Cricket flashed TP2 (Sprint) and enjoy customizing it in fact. Very flexible like the HD2 and the keyboard is still one of the best in the industry. Anyone still using theirs today?

What's an iPhone?
Hell yeah I still use mine. It still does everything I want to do and its not the run of the mill phones of today.
Next up is taking it to europe for a couple weeks, swapping the sim card and still enjoying it there...
I would still use mine if I did not switch to Verizon.
Sent from my DROID X2
I still have mine too. I had to turn off that stupid slow Sence, but with Titanium is Rhodium fast and working great. And it does all what I need My lovely Rhodium.

This piece of Krapp Fone (yes with a K), its freakin slooooooooooooooowwwww. I use to think iphone 3G's was inferior back in 09. I still have my rhodium I honestly would love to use my sledge hammer, and cripple the dam thing!!! but if i can make $50 bucks of it, I'll be happier. couldn't stand memory leak issue with Windows mobile. Gladly, I am in the Samsung Galaxy S2 scene now, where there is not such thing as slowdowns.
HTC Rhodium, I REGRET YOU and DENOUNCE that you were ever my phone!
Same here. I still use my TP2 like it was brand new. I'm not parting with it until it dies. It does everything I need it to, and does it fairly quickly. Sure I can get an Arrive or a droid phone with a Ghz CPU, but I'd lose all the tweaks and programs I have amassed over the last year and a half. Screw that. Co0kies Home Tab still rules the roost round here!

A month ago I would've agreed with you. But now that I finally got an Android native phone, I could never go back. You think there a lot of customizations with winmo and CHT, take that times 100 and you have Android. The things you can do is off the charts. You'll know what I mean when you finally move on from your TP2.

i totally agree with you. this phone has caused me nothing but trouble in the longrun. it was quite good for a short period of time. ive just got myself a samsung galaxy s2 myself and there is no effin way im going back to tp2 ever. this phone i have now is crazily fast, there's truly no competition whatsoever (even an older android phone would beat the tp2).

I agree. Many think the Rhodium and winmo is the end all be all of customizability... but things have changed.

Had tp2 for two years. Beautiful phone aesthecally unbeatable keyboard. The mistake I made was upgrading to Sense. The phone was never designed to run sense....slowed it down completely. Also it began to have random shut downs and crashes with Sense. It was irritating to have to install apps like Clean Ram in order to rescue my phone from crashing and keep it workable each day.
The straw that broke the camels back was when youtube hq video support for tp2 stopped.....it finally hit home that I had an aging phone that was unable to keep up with the times....a phone that youtube and adobe flash were now overlooking. Windows mobile had had its day it seemed. As such, it was time to put my tp2 in my 'museum' drawer along with my htc diamond and old ipaq.
I switched to a phone that was ahead of the times and might provide at least two years of futureproof peace of mind due to its specs...samsung gs2. Android is the future imho. I still occasionally use my htc hero without any problems - bar the smallish screen...

Yup, with Android you get the customization options, and you also get an OS that actually works and has a ton of good software. If you need to stay with WinMo for personal reasons, then its tolerable. But if you compare Winmo to Android side to side, there is no contest.
I believe you. I've been using the Tilt 2 for a long time now, and I was waiting for DFT's Android NAND to be out but I gave up waiting last week. It's been lying around for a week without a sim card in it and still has battery life left. It's been running for a week on standby without charging. I moved to the Galaxy S, but I still love the TP2. Great phone it is. I will use it to test if they do come out with a proper android ROM for it.
Still using mine. All love love with it.
Im still using mine. My wife upgraded from the touch pro to the arrive running windows 7. It is nice but I still prefer 6.5. I would like a better camera and some sort of d pad to allow one hand use but still have not found a replacement. The xperia x2 looked perfect but it is not available in the US and I would have to switch to ATaT because it is GSM. I love the tp2 and it does almost everything I want. I use it with the stock rom and spb mobile shell. It allows me to customize the phone exactly how I like it.
My precious....
After running an old Kaiser with a very stable ROM for the last 2 years I "upgraded" my equipment with tp2, which I ever wanted to have. Must say, the Keyboard is great, don't wanna miss it any more! But WM 6.5 is a hard experience...
Till now I've fought over 3 months with this phone! It's such a brilliant concept of a phone, why is it so hard to get it stable??? I think I've tried out nearly any german ROM out in the field, including Energy Rom and the original one from HTC, not a single one was without a bug! The only thing I want it is to be stable, smooth and, well, just working!
Now I stay with the original Stock ROM, by now it seems to be stable, but memory using is a monster, and the phone slows down over the day.
And, after all, I also think of leaving good old WM and change to Androiid, but all I can read is that syncing Android with all my Data in Outlook via USB is also such a tricky job like using ActiveSync...
Has anyone here experience in that?
I have mine for now a year. I dont understand why HTC started to screw their Touch and Type phones. If you look in past, if you buyed a HTC with full qwerty, you became much faster phone than only Touch. Last better Touch and Type was Touch pro. If you compare witch Diamond, it had more Ram. From this point the Touch and type had worse hardware. I dont understand why they made Touch pro 2 with hardware from Touch pro. It was old and in that year came HTC touch HD2 with Snapdragon. So why Touch pro 2 didnt became also? This is only thing what i miss on this phone.
But... i had now for 2 days HTC Desire. I know, it had overheating issue, but i made some tricks to made it working I tryed and i must say, AMOLED, camera, speed, android was the hammer. There are only 2 reason i wouldnt buy one for common use. Absent full qwerty and my TP2 still do all i want. I would miss my 5 row keyboard :-D So still, TP2 is still numero uno for me ;-)
