FAVICON - XDA-Developers.com - Are either of these more readable at rapid glance? - About xda-developers.com

Quick usability test, non-scientific...
Cheers and kudos to svetius and whole XDA-devs site re-development team for the major makeover to the portal page at http://www.xda-developers.com . Many other improvements have been made, many new forums added, and more changes are to roll-out over time, according to the portal page.
It's great to see an XDA twitter channel -- lots of good extended visibility. My question is, how readable is the new favicon at a glance, without your eyes a close distance to the screen focused right on it? Maybe most people have 20:20 vision for reading. I don't, and have to use various slight correction for smartphone to eyes -- and another for desktop screen to eyes.
Do these read about the same to you? Is either more clear?

The darker one is a very little bit more clear for my eyes.

One with red glow seems to be more readable to me. One without glow - the x & d look connected. Also letters are just generally easier to see for me. It would probably be better if glow was a tad different. Reds too close to orange to really produce the "stand-out" affect imho. Example, (not a good one, would probably be ugly) if the red glow was green it would be easier to make out the xda. Just my thoughts, though. I also have bad eyes.

The black one looks better.

Okay, thanks for feedback. What I've concluded is: My eyes are worse than I thought. Most favicons I can read very well from the distance where I sit in my chair to my computer screen. The new xda one was perceived as a blur to me, but that's due to my eyes and need for closeup glasses for things that small.
I was just experimenting (based on that YouTube favicon experiment, where they changed theirs) to see if there was anything I would be able to see which read to me as "xda" without any close-upglasses correction.
Like most things here, since there is never any scientific sampling done, results of questions like this this are neither confirmed nor refuted, especially for a site of 2 million registrants, and maybe 5 people rendering an opinion. But, of the 5 people -- a statistical grain of sand out of 7 to 10,000 daily visitors -- your eyes say it's fine as is. Good enough for me

Abercrombie & Fitch RC33 (WIP - almost finished)

Just thought I'd attempt to contribute something...
I finally figured out how to make a theme (signing and all, woo!)
So I made an Abercrombie & Fitch theme (It was requested so I thought I'd waste time on photoshop, luckily I was successful at signing. In result, I got to work little by little being able to view results on my white G1)...
So these aren't technically screenshots (i'm very slow, haven't figured that out yet). So i just got all the images and made a "preview" via photoshop.
Home Screen 001 :

Boot Screen :
As of right now, It's just an idea. If you're not interested... no problem... Just for those who are.
Also, I kept stock icons...
Me preferably.... I don't like when my icons are customize due to the fact of mis-match when you download new apps.
Any criticism is taken maturely. <3
P.s.... Ignore the "2:47 am" on the bootscreen image. Like i said, I photo shopped the previews. (unprofessionally, apparently).
Nice, not my cup of tea but well done none the less. The more themes the better, including niche themes like this one.
glad someone made it.
Nice to see someone could help out a fellow xda-er instead of criticizing the request. I would say that everyone here has something on their G1 that someone else has no use for. Like a demonic stuffed doll. But for some reason the person requesting a brand name that 90% of people their age probably wear is somekind of freak. Thank you to the op. Even though its not for me, but neither is the rolex watch.
I was sorta confused by the original request as it seems that a wallpaper would be sufficient. You have however done a good job of making a few subtle changes to make it a personalized theme that fits the request. Kudos to you...
now can we have Hollister and AE themes too?
this is cool, nice and cleanly done...not my thing either but im glad u helped someone out. hopefully one of us can do the same 4 ya

My thoughts exactly. Let's hope some form of 'skinning' is possible.
It's very ugly..Zune HD like....
Super ugly !!!
The homescreen is ugly, but the rest of the OS is very elegant and simple. You guys should watch demos on youtube you will be blown away. MS said that there gonna be tight on OEM customization, but I think their still gonna allow some customization for OEM to stand out from the competition. You guys REALLY need to try out the demo site: http://www.windowsphone7series.com/
i think also it is nice and clear - thats what i want - no overfilling with buttons and things from tabs and options on the "homescreen"
it remember me more of that TouchOne skin - where u move up - down - left and right to reach specific screens instead of using a tabsborder. people often forget that we use such phones also in cars and while walking - so we need a sure and failsafe surface with not to small buttons (at least less).
if anybody knows a good and fast! UI for Wm6.5 let me know - new sense is nice looking but still i search for something simplier to use/touch UI
First impressions...
It looks overly simplified, and more like an art project - or a set of 'design placeholders' that mark areas still needed to be finished in detail.
I question a lot of real-life interactivity with the device, it seems a little silly having the text of the hub cropped off screen.
It wouldn't surprise me if the the API's for this are very basic (aka. simple gadgets) - I have a feeling this isn't designed to run apps in the traditional sense.

[Q] Boot Screen Test Render Feedback Req..

Hi, all i do a fair bit of 3d animation and work in After Effects, i would like some requests for a custom animation, could be anything from your name to whatever.
Cant promise perfection as we have limited space for the animation, from some of my test renders before we have 10mb of free space @ 25fps we are only getting between 60-120 frames to play with at full 800x480 rez.
So any nice custom bootscreen's either reply here or PM me, Could be a simple Spinny Motion Blurred txt effect to soft body drops, maybe even android guy taking a dump on a iphone 4.
A white apple, clearly the one from the loading screens on apple devices, this then dissolves ala hourglass style (the windows wait icon) into the andriod, final screen is background glow around the android
Sorry i Took So Long........
I am rendering a Droid scene as i type ( Droid ****ting on iPhone) since i started this post i have had not so good luck!!

Project Closing down.......
Since there was no interest this project is now closed...
Hey Stef ,
i just saw your post ! ik looks very awesome !!!
nice work indeed !!! , i know that making stuff like that is very hard and very time taking !! i made some bootanimations too , but from movie-scene's , and it is a shame that there are olmost 1800 views at my post and more then 600 downloads , and only 5 or 6 people reacted .
So i know how it is when your making something sooo cool , an putting a lot of efford in it and not getting much respons , that feels **** !
But know that i honestly respect your work !

Android Developers Shirt(s)

First of all, (to mods), there isn't really a section for this... since it's not erally off topic (cause it's related... just can't find a place to put it), if you've got a better place for this, please move it
Since I just started developing for android, and I have an ego the size of my... muscles, I made a shirt on Zazzle for Android developers.
Unfortunately, it's not cheap (typical Zazzle) at $27, but it's pretty neat looking.
That's my store/thing, they make you sell it through that, and it looks terrible because I'm not interested in selling stuff as a profession, that's why I'm an android developer!

I was just looking for some feedback I might make some more, because the 'Android Developer' category of apparel is very small, I found only one other item that's for females, which means its really rare!
http://www.zazzle.com/android_developer_shirt-235706480561704515
The link goes to one that is slightly different than the one posted, mainly because I had to swap out the Android logo because you are not allowed to use the font.
I can't guarantee the quality yet, but I chose the american apparel t-shirt because I've had their value tshirts and they suck. I'll get back in touch when mine arrives.

Im thinking of grabbing an ANDROID DEVELOPER SHIRT myself!! EGO SKY HIGH

Sup guys getting a 32GB version in a hour or so.

Sup people, id like to introduce myself, I'm a hobbyist 3d artist and graphic designer. "Not so much good at the design part" but for now on im gonna "try" to design wallpapers, lock screens, and Themes optimized for the Nexus 7. I'm not very proficient in coding but I have a friend who both has the nexus 7 and is a semi recognized developer here on XDA. "you probably know him he is the creator of Dandroid" "I actually came up with that name =P"
Here is just a few things I have done "I know not impressive yet" But at least it gives me some credibility to what im saying.

If at all possible since im new here anyone can suggest things that are worth developing for on the nexus 7 id be very grateful.
I know zilch about coding or desinging 3d models but I will say that
a lot of the design work I've seen on here tend to lead toward
embossed, shiny, 3D-like styles. The pictures you posted look pretty decent,
I would like it even more if you had the green in a lighter shade though like
the original androids colour. Anyway this is going a bit off topic but I think it would be interesting to
see how you can merge 3D design skills into things like wallpapers
and lock screens and also into future apps your friend can help you develop.
We have a Themes and Apps subforum for this kind of thing.
Good luck with your wallpapers. And welcome to xda
As you seem to have posted some images already ive moved this thread to themes. If you add more wallpapers to the thread rather than start another it keeps things tidy
Regards
Chris

Thanks and sorry for being such a noob, I always seem to be this way when I enter an unfamiliar "to me" community, ill try to be more aware of things like this.
Anyway Here is some of my other work, I used to be more into Gundam 3d modeling so here is some of my more impressive work that isnt client work. "sorry ahead of time, I haven't enough posts so add links yet".

Ive also made other things like tablet designs and such a while back "This is a pic of when a tablet was unheard of" This is what my vision at the time a tablet should be.
