Copy files via WiFi - Desire General

Hello,
When I connect my Desire to WiFi, is there a possibility to copy files from my desktop (Ubuntu) to the Phone and visa versa?

I have found the answer on my own question.
But, if you are looking for the same, go to Google Market and search for 'swiftp'.
This works great!

I use the ES file explorer.

As a lighter application after trying out Swiftp I can recommend it. A little harder for me to figure out how to set up, but very usable.

FTP Server for WIFI, Easiest way to manage mobile files. Very tiny and free program.

For Windows Mobile, wm6 wm6.5

Just setup Admin/anonymous account and root path in Option manu, then ready to go.
1,connect your PPC to you home WIFI router (or any other TCP/IP connections), run the program.
2,Program will show your phone's IP (like ftp//192.168.1.5)
3,You can use windows explorer, or any ftp client to upload and download files to your mobile phone.
copy files with Wife, it can easily reach the top SD card writing speed.this program also can be a gate to achieve remote->PPC, and PPC->PPC file management, or Internet File sharing, blah blah blah
It was in Chinese and I just translate it. Enjoy!
This is cool.
Thanks...

lol!
I recently got pulled up for recommending one of my apps, WifeNoStandby.
actually this FTP server is great. It handles multiple ips no problem.
I am including support for this in my StatusTicker app's menu.
I wonder if there is a link for the original developer?
That would be cool.
Thanks!
Nice, I have been getting pretty sick of having to plug into my computer just to upload a new file here and there. Unfortunately I don't have bluetooth on my computer and don't feel like buying an adapter that could easily break off. This worked perfectly!
Great share, thanks mate!

or he wrote this cute tiny 4 fun or it is just a collage homework.
I think the homepage is dead... You can try the mail that's in the exe though.

Uploading big files with Desire

The only internet i have is from my Desire. I would like to upload a large file to some sort of site around 100MB worth.
I have tried most popular ones but they don't work form the phone. I have tried Dropbox but it seems there is no status bar of how much it has uploaded. I even left it going overnight and couldn't tell wether it was done or not!
Any ideas?
I have used estrongs file explorer (available free in marketplace) it has a built in FTP client and I've used it to upload large files (300Mb +) to company FTP site over 3G and WiFi in the past, it has a process indicator too...
EStrongs also has LAN browsing capability, so I can use it to playback mp3 stored on my NAS when at home
Hope this helps.

Would i not need my own webspace to do that though? I meant more for uploading a file to Megaupload/4shared/Rapidshare anything like that really?
Thanks for the reply though. Will be worth having it for other things!
Yes, it would only work if you had the FTP address for the location you were trying to upload to,
for file sharing sites, have you tried an alternative browser to default, I don't use any of those sites you mentioned, but for other things (managing world cup fantasy football team for example) I found that I could use some pages in dolphin HD that wouldn't work in the default browser, I'm not a big fan of dolphin because of the way it hijacks all of your default preferences even when you ask it not to, but it did allow me to use sites that otherwise would be unavailable

From what i have seen it takes a bit of work to get it going. Would like to try it but maybe once we get a 1 click solution to use it.
I'll look into other browsers. Thanks.

What about operamini?
I know you can upload files with that. Don't know about files that big. Give it a try.
Tried operamini no luck there. What site would i be able to use?
~100MB and below I've done with Dropbox using the Droidbox app.
It shows an icon in the notification bar and the current status when you scroll down (progress bar, successful/unsuccessful). This is a 63MB 3GP vid file I'm uploading using it right now: http://bit.ly/asyRYa

[Q] copy from windows clipboard to android

Is there a way of copying text from the windows clipboard into the android phone? I have Bible notes in a windows program that I want to copy to an android program. they are made by different companies, so the easiest way to copy would be to do a verse by verse copy and paste. However, I don't see how I can use my windows machine to get into the android clipboard.
I tried using droid explorer, but couldn't figure it out. I was able to do a screencast.

Best way to do it is to copy the text on the pc into a txt file, like using notepad. Copy that to your phone, then open it using a file explorer, use that text editor, copy it on the phone, then paste it where you need it.
Yes, every will work. Not sure why I didn't think of that. I guess when you have something stuck in your head, it's sometimes hard to figure out alternatives.
To add on to what's already been said, once you save it as a .txt file and save it to your SD card you can import it into AK Notepad. I'm sure that there are other apps that allow this, but that's the app I use & I know that it works. You can also create a shortcut to the imported file on your homescreen (long-press on the note from within the app and select "pin to homescreen") or add a widget so you can access it easily.

You can also use the Google Chrome to Phone extension and program to push snippets of text from your browser to the phone. I'm finding myself using Evernote more than that lately though. Catch notes, Springpad, or any of the other notepad apps that sync would work. It's nice because it works great both ways -- I can copy something from the phone and create a note, then read it from the PC, or vice versa.
Thanks all. I will use google docs. They already have my information.

About file manager

Hi there,
In your opinion, what's the best file manager app? I've installed ESFileManager and I like it especially for the possibility to map remote folders via Samba (...well, something there are some problems...).
Have you some alternatives?
Bye, J.
i use root explorer... great app... has built in text editor, easy to navigate... and a bit less poncy than ES file explorer lol
However admittedly... the ability to use FTP on ES is quite good... depends what you want to us it for i guess..
Astro is also quite nice. However I hate the new 3.x versions so still using version 2.x.
ES File Explorer works for me, love the Samba and Dropbox implementations.

Yep, I totally agree.
I've got only few problems with samba shared folders (under Windows), but Dropbox come to help!
I've also took a look on Root Explorer and Astro FM... but i still prefer ES. Maybe "first love is hard to forget"
Thanks for opinions!
J.

Use Nfc tag to trigger PC side program

What this can do?
1. Put your phone on the tag, auto start ES Ftp service in your phone, trigger your PC side explorer to open the ftp folder
2. with Nfc.apk mod, when you take your phone off the tag, auto stop ES ftp service in your phone.
How to do
1. Download the attachments package and unzip it.
2. Install Tasker(need to download from Google Play Store), ES File Explorer(need to download from Google Play Store), UDPBroadcast, AnyTag in your phone.
3. copy UDPRecvWinsock.exe in your PC.
4. Follow the Step by Step described in the document.

Much easier, just get AutoRemote. It works well for doing ANYTHING you want on a PC OR another phone.
I hope this isn't dead. I am very interested in this. I'd like to have some tags that open specific games when I tap them. Could you explain how i could do this?
I would strongly suggest looking at tasker and an NFC plugin that uses tasker.
As for opening the game, you can use AutoRemote and EventGhost (or just AutoRemote's program) to open anything on the PC.

That is what I use now. I have tasker and a tag that turns on my computer when I tap it. I guess I am just rally unfamiliar with how to use autoremote.
Well.. Your NFC triggers a task, then in that task you tell autoremote to send a message to the computer "PlayTetris" and then the computer opens up Tetris or whatever program you tell it to open..
Are you familiar with Python? If so, I'd suggest using EventGhost for your computer automation. AutoRemote has an EventGhost Plugin.
You really don't need to be that familiar with it, but it helps when you get into advanced stuff like this:
http://wordpress.tinozplace.com
Is what I did.
Why not just grab a cheap nfc reader/writer for the pc. Then you have direct access to do anything. Asus even has an Nfc accessory addon that comes with their top tier motherboards or you can buy it separately.
