HTC Desire Volume Rocker Problem - Desire General

I've found another one with the same problem
forums.androidandme.com/topic/htc-desire-volume-problems
I'm happy that I decided to give it back within 30 days money back period. Now it is not my problem any more it is yours : )

to be fair, that forum link you posted was a month ago, with only 3 replies (2 from the OP), this doesnt mean that every hTC desire will have the same problem...
i dont believe that every smartphone, are free of problems...

just look on first page of this subforum. Overheating, horrible frame rate to name a few problems. Buy and pray : )
And yes - other phones aren't better is a good argument for those who cannot give it back : )

The link you gave indicated that the issue was a hardware fault with the rocker, and that it was replaced, so given that you've returned your Desire, I wonder why you keep on posting here?
Regards,
Dave

Must be lucky to have a perfectly running Desire with 2 days usage out of it each charge!!

Your device had a hardware fault and you returned it. Sorry you had a bad experience but we get it. This thread needs to be closed just like that other one you started today.

Wow! So that's two devices with a confirmed rocker switch issue. Hardly endemic is it?
I don't question your right to post here - I just question why you would want to when you no longer have any vested interest in the device. At the moment, you're looking increasing like a troll, and that's what will end up getting you banned if you continue down this route.

Flux, with the greatest of respect. You are a poor excuse for a troll, and have nothing of value to contribute here.
Why bother posting when you have returned your handset and hate it so much? You are no longer a member of the HTC Desire community, so I'd suggest you jog on to whatever bridge you reside under and leave the adults to carry on helping eachother here.

No the point of this topic is to show that my problem has nothing to do with the wrong software settings, nothing to do with me dropping the phone onto the flour or drowning it in a drink. IT IS really a badly designed hardware and if it is badly designed you'll recall this topic soon : )

Neither of the above quotes show you are serious about trying to resolve any issues. They show that you are childish.
It's a pity that you had a faulty handset, you can either get over the fact that it was faulty, and you have your money back. Or you can become bitter and try to poison everyone else against them. Either way, if you feel you need to continue posting here, at least make your posts constructive and useful.

the topic is constructive! Open your eyes! But the way you all are trying to shut me up makes me laugh : )
Well enjoy your phone now and start creating constructive topics : )

Flux, I think your point of view has been expressed enough. Why do you keep making posts flaming the device. I understand you had a bad time with yours, but it happens. No device or product has a 100% fault-less history. Things happen, faults happen, defects happen. It doesn't make a product bad or useless. Your point has been made, there is no reason to continue posting about the same issue over and over. If you dislike the phone, that's fine... all you're doing posting about the same issue continually is wasting your time, and everyone else's time. Even if you are just trying to "troll"... is your time really worth SO little?

uh, more ppl becoming affected. Just on the first page

You know somehow "I told you so" just doesn't quite say it

Perhaps you would like to contact every desire owner and ask them if they have the same problems?
Remember that nearly everyone here is here because they have a problem, or want information. The thousands of happy desire owners aren't here because, lets face it, no one really says to themselves "oh great my handset is working perfectly, lets go on an internet forum and tell everyone".
Unless you have a decent poll of happy and unhappy users, then unfortunately you are just making yourself look silly.

I have just one word: troll!
Really? Go make something useful

We screwed up!

It is a sad day for this community.
In a series of mishaps and mistakes, best characterized as the sysadmin equivalent of a perfect storm, we lost more than 3 weeks of our database.
It all started when we decided to move posts to a whole new system of forums. In that process we screwed up. But we had made a backup just before, so we decided to go back to that, dropping the screwed-up database. Then it turned out that the most recent backup we made was truncated bacause of a memory limit, so it was unuseable.
This dropped us back to an older backup, which in this case was Over three weeks old!!!
This means that we lost:
All forum postings since October 4th
All new member registrations since October 4th
Records of donations since October 4th (this is recoverable...)
All News items (recoverable too)
If you have any important postings still on disk, in browser cache, or anywhere else, we'd like you to repost them.
Re-working the forum structure will still hapen, sometime later today, and without any further dramatic losses.
I apologize for this event, and we'll work even harder to make sure something like this will never happen again.
index.php was renamed to index-f***.php ?
thus when i go to forum.xda-developers.com i see a directory structure ?
Unlucky for some
ahhh **** if lost all my previous post thing on the left hand side tooo
am i the only one who in the process lost all memory of what happend since oct 4 ?
That are really bad news.
I realized, that also the PM-Part have been gone. :-(
This was really a great bull****.
Also not nice to here, that you have so much work....
I think there are some more important things to do....
If I or anyone else could help you, just inform us....

Isn't there any way to recover the last 3 weeks data?

eta for working camera and sound?`

Hi, I'm using android on my tilt 2 right now and like it quite a bit. However, I won't use it full time because it doesn't have sound support or camera support, or bluetooth lol.
Do we have an ETA for those things?
Also, would someone please instruct me as to how I can find/measure the hardware interrupts of the device so that I may pass the info along to some other developers I know who don't have an HTC phone.
Thanks
Smith
i feel a flaming coming on... you might want to read some threads before speaking in here...
It's an honest enough question here.
I don't mean to seem impatient, because i'm not. I'm happy with what there is. Was simply wondering, especially because I may be able to contribute to the project.
If you're going to flame though, I guess it's time to get your caps-lock on. Won't bother me.
You could have asked this in one of the main threads... or used the search function to search for your answer which has been all along "when we get it we get it... no eta"
Seems pointless to start a new thread on this thats all

Last I heard was something about by July, but refusing to lock it down to a specific year.
no1 knows man, it will come out when it comes out ,just gotta wait
This question has been asked many times in this forums, but at the current state for the Rhodium, we don't have drivers for the sound from what I have heard.
As for bluetooth, I am not sure what the current state is, but I heard that the bluetooth is a completely different from other devices that HTC has made.
Kenichi
Maybe we should make this a sticky for those who can't read too good or are too lazy to use the search option. Kind of getting tired of going through the main thread and half the posts are just the same regurgitated questions. Or maybe we should create a ban if the same question has been asked more than say 3 times.
If you want to help there is some IRC channel or something I think I remember reading. or PM phhusson maybe? He seems to be heavily involved.
In case you didnt notice, people are a little sensitive about the sound/camera questions around here. Probably because they were flamed for asking it too It almost like it is the first question everyone asks when running android for the first time.
cameraand sound?
I think that's like asking when exactly will Windows Phone 7 come out, or when will the next solar eclipse be, maybe even, where did you put your keys last?
When people get it to work is when you will have it. I don't think anyone knows exactly how it works, something to do with hardware issues, so until it's cracked/figured out there can't be a date.

some of you guys are funny and make jokes about it which is funny and tolerable, but then we have those "followers" that repeat what is already stated (roast em this and that it was said already really how many posts do we have to see about that.) its a forum, it a community and give positive help and stop always cherping because a. u probably didnt have the nadz to roast anyone and b. really you didnt have to come to the post to read it you could have easliy went to the next one. its ten times easier to give help and pass a joke damn stop being so uptight become a leader not a follower...pretty much everything is unknown till they release it or they mention it on the site, but feel as thou the camera will probably be the last thing thou if they do get it to work properly (all speculative based on the fuze)

he was using the speakerphone when he booted android. you know, it seems a lot of crap is dependant upon being active in windows for it to work in android (keyboard backlight, front hardkey lights, etc.). i wonder is there a way to make everything active at boot time, like camera, speaker, etc etc. not saying it would magically make the stuff work properly, but might make it easier to mess with some stuff to try n get it working ?
I was thinking the same thing, I tried playing music when I started up android.. no luck, and the speaker phone is just a line the the startup.txt if Im remembering correctly

XDA Maintenance and Forums Restored from Backups

As many of you may have heard, we underwent routine maintenance on our Database Server last night (9/25). Upon rebooting the Database Server, it refused to boot and all indications are that the RAID 10 (what is RAID? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID) array failed.
We have restored the Forums from a 24 hour old backup. We know this is not ideal, but at this point, the chances of recovering the failed array are slim.
We sincerely apologize for this.
Technical Info:
This maintenance was intended to boost the redundancy of our database setup and "lightening struck".
The maintenance was to update the OS and make a configuration change to allow us to introduce a slave DB server which would replicate all data on the primary DB server. We are currently running off this intended "slave server" as a master.
ouch how does Raid 10 fail!? hope all is well!
At least your back!

Had to get a refund for my One X :-(

Well after days of not being able to make calls in the office via the Suresignal, and after swapping out the phone for a new one, I had to get a refund.
Really wanted to keep this device, but as a business, and not being able to make or receive calls in the office, it had to go, and yes I've been through the turning WIFI off etc, but every other device I have owned seems to be able to connect to wifi and the Suresignal at the same time and make phone calls.
There seems to be an issue with connecting to the Vodafone Suresignal, and HTC didn't know about the issue when I called, and had no help on the matter.
Such a shame....
it might be kind of a shame to add another thread to so many when there is a returns thread. everyone sees you now, though, and there are tons of dupe threads that stay open so i'm sure you can wait around and get some more replies. =]
Don't really understand the need for your post, I made a valid point, one that CPW and HTC seem (or claim) to be unaware of.
After spending just under £500, I think I have reason to gripe.
The one drawback with forums seems to be a global thing across all forums, is that there is always someone that wants to have a pop and say "do a search before posting" etc, but surely a forum is to ask and seek advice, and discuss, not to just search an archive, we may just as well have a searchable database and be done with if that's the attitude.
Why doesn't a mod just move the thread as is the norm if it's that much of an issue?
As I see it, you have not made any constructive additions to the thread at all, does your One X connect to a sure signal, do you have a solution for it?
Some of us don't have hours and hours to trawl through shed loads of threads and search results, and only spend a few short minutes online when work commitments allow.
Just a tip, if your thread is about Sure Signal, put that in the title.

The OP has RETURNED his phone, hes not posting to ask for a solution before he returns and so isnt actually asking for help to fix something.
If he had been asking for help as a last straw, then yes, a new thread my be a good idea… just stating a fact that hes returned the phone…. kinda pointless

Had 2 phones (and yes updated both), HTC had no idea, Vodafone had no idea, Carphone Warehouse had no idea, so what do you do, leave a £500 paperweight on the desk because it can't make calls like any other device on the market, or take it back within the 30 days to get your £500 back?
I searched....and searched for answers, posted on the VF forum, but nobody had any answers, I wonder just how many of you actually use a device for work, and rely on it for communication, instead of just playing angry birds and posting a Facebook update that you've just bought a can of cola!
I see countless complaint threads about "there's a mark on my device, I want it exchanged" or "my screen creaks" etc etc etc, to me, that's petty, but people deem them to be worthy of much discussion.....

Sincere Gratitude

This thread may end up locked as irrelevant and to that, I will not object but I have a few things that I must say to those in this community who have played a hand in the game that is may life.
I would ask of a moderator intent on locking this thread to allow it at least a few hours to be seen by any who may wish to publicly respond, although it seem unlikely that one would, and obviously this request is nothing more than a request and I will not feel discontent if my request is denied.
I have a great number of things that I thought I wanted to say to you all. All such things were negative until recently.
First of all I would like to say what I feel is important regardless of how comical this will be to the less honorable of you involved because I must say it:
I forgive you. Of my own free will I fully forgive any wrong doing done against me by any and all who participated.
Secondly: (and this part was even more difficult for me)
I thank you. While I feel as though I have (almost literally) been through hell and back again in the last eight to ten months I have come to the point where I can forgive the actions against me, which leaves me in such a state that I have no option but to thank everyone for all the things that can be seen as a silver lining.
Through the course of these events I feel I have learned things that I would never have even considered otherwise and as a result I feel I have grown in a way that will benefit me and anyone with whom I am associated. Although I know not what your intentions were, you have changed me in ways that I can call positive and for that...
Thank you.
I will overcome.
Oh my... I must thank you again already.
As soon I clicked submit a weight that cannot be measured was lifted from me and I honestly cannot say that anything I have ever experienced was as intense or liberating as this burden dissolving.
Although this may be Stockholm Syndrome, I have nothing but love for you, my captors, and hope to continue to grow in such ways.
I should also point out that while I have obviously been unable to stop you and probably remain powerless in this regard; you have no cause to continue... it will not affect me any longer and you will only harm yourselves.
PS
I have decided to burn all of the evidence that I have collected including some IP addresses and phone numbers that were not easy to obtain.
I will seek no vengeance.

I don't know that will ever end. I am tested everyday in ways that near break me every time and it almost cost me my humanity.
I think that someone has distorted and warped a sacred philosophy to the point where they no longer understand it....
"Do what though wilt"
Is only the one and true law if your will is not compromised by the sickness that is jealousy.
One's will is only divinely backed if one has no ill intent.
One's will cannot be stopped be if the outcome benefits all involved.
Let me find a quote from a more informed source. It can be summarized well by one smarter than myself.
and honestly, regardless of whether the storm had passed or if I temporarily rested safely in it's eye;
I had not yet forgiven so it all still existed in full effect insomuch as the way it affected me.
Forgive me but, what exactly did you do wrong?
"Give wings to your fancy, for fairer than any picture that you can paint with thought is the future that you can claim with will. Once you have imagined, once you have chosen, say, "I will." And there is nothing on earth that can hinder you for long: for you are immortal and the future is obedient to you.
You say death may stand in your way? It will not.
You say that poverty and sickness or friends and enemies obstruct your path? They certainly will not. Nothing can, unless you permit it.
But you must choose, and never again must you wish for anything for you need only say, " I will. " You must say it always in thought and in deed, not only in these words now.
And henceforth never for a moment must your purpose change, but your constant intention must turn everything you touch in line with it.
Then, if that which you have chosen is not harmful, it will be yours before long."

If that was knowledge I possessed; I would have had no issues.
Addendum:
but whether or not it was your intention to, your question just made me realize what was missing from my post and I thank you for it.
I am sorry
I have always maintained the belief that I must have committed offense to warrant punishment but I have not yet ascertained my "crimes."
Regardless, I am sorry.
I think a better question would be, "What is provoking this thread?" or, "Can you enlighten us to the reasons behind what you are posting?"
To be completely honest, I am completely lost, and a bit worried.

I'm with you on this.
What ever happened, or is happening, PhAkEer, some of us are lost on this. Not that it's any of my business, just an observation.
And as Gray offered, if you need to vent you can hit me up as well. My GTalk is the same name @ gmail

I'm sorry. I know it probably doesn't make much sense and I was very vague on purpose.
Trust when I say that its no longer important how or who and about all I'll say about the what is that: for quite some time a large few or small many have put a lot of effort into effing with my es and I think I nearly let my cheese slide off of my cracker a couple of times.
and thanks for the offer
(LMAO the funny part is that for a lot of the time a fresh point of view would have great but I had very bad luck trying to explain it and even worse luck getting help... so I think I just... gave up on asking )
Then again.. maybe some of the "What" does need to be discussed... because the modifications people were able to make on my phone were disturbing and maybe if I knew what information to provide we could tighten the security for everyone else so these hacks don't get any more out of control.
I have erased/burned most of the stuff that could have implicated anyone as a gesture of good will, but I think I did save some of the modified apps in a couple of backups.
Any thoughts on what I could upload that could be used?
An example that we could both benefit from and protect again malice :
Whoever was involved was able to permanently root my phone in param/.lfs to such a degree that even Sprint's technicians couldn't remove it.
It got to the point where they would just hand me another phone when I walked in... no fees or anything.
We don't know one another my friend, but through Christ I pray you'll be fine. And what doesn't destroy you can only make you stronger.

I remember this. You were attacked via phone some time ago. I remember the thread that really started as a simple question and turned into you and others figuring out you had been hacked. Am I correct?

I don't remember a thread quite like that. That does however sound like a combination of a couple threads, maybe?
The only thread I posted about me being hacked was an embarrassing fail in which I thought the situation was more serious...basically, I bit some deeply buried misimformation hook, line and sinker and thought that it was uncovered fact.
I would enjoy it all if it were a (b) movie I was watching.
This forum is probably a good place to ask: does anyone know anything about removing hacks that are coded into images stored on a protected partition?
Sorry that I don't know enough about hacking to identify specifics. It took me forever to even realize where they were and I have only ever been to modify /param/.lfs with the use of an application.
I don't mean to disrespect but you sound plain crazy bro. If you've been hacked and think that your identity is in jeopardy, contact the authorities and your bank. This kind of thing happens all the time and there resources available to prevent any harm being done.
That being said, you are an important person around here and have done a lot of amazing work. Thank you for that. I hope you can ease your mind because you are coming off as a little unwell.
Life is to short to have spent these last many months worrying about this. Go on a camping trip or something.

I don't understand? I mean no disrespect either, but I have no idea how anything I have said would make me sound "unwell" or "crazy."
I would not be offended by whatever clarity you give me there.
All I have said (basically) is that I have learned a lot and forgive malice because I have moved on.
If I were forced to describe that in a word, I would choose, "healthy."

By that I basically just mean paranoid and kinda out there. Like you are spun.
Did someone here send you a file with a Trojan or something? How or why would somebody want to hack your phone?
Do you presume they are still an active member here and are reading this thread, and that is why you made it?
Like you said, it's vague. That's why it comes off a little odd, to me at least.
