had my TP2 nearly a year but recently i have noticed the screen has like a rectangle shape oil slick type mark on itvery noticable and seems to be getting worse anyone else had this??
its as though there's water under the screen protector but when i remove the SC its still there

newtons ring??? kind of the case. the "oil slick" is mearly trapped condensation between the digitizer and the top plastic covering that you catually touch(the plastic you put the screen protector on). moisture seeps in through the bottom keys and earpiece in forms of vapor and liquid. this occurs when you have your phone in your pocket or use it in humidity(shower or weather)...congrats, you ve trapped your sweat lol. the reason why its rectangle is because the screen/digitizer and top plastic are not set flush together. as you know, the top plastic is very flexable so you can take your finger and feel the various componets in the empty spaces. i can confirm my finding because a few months back, i replaced my tp2 screen. i seen it had the oil slick before i opened it and before i put humpty back together again, i wiped under the plastic screen and felt a slight moist film. i tried to guess how the hell water got in and i concluded by a salty electronic taste...yeah i smelt and tasted it...that it was sweat. i always carried my phone in my front pocket and over time, the sweat built up. after a wipe with electronic cleaning cloths, an air dry and then an air can blow(i love my phone lol), i put it back together and bam...no oil slick. another way to think of my theory is, you know when you swim with your watch and condensation builds up on the inner quartz and makes it look foggy?...same thing here. only thing different is that there is only one flat surface and not 2 like inside the phone so the moisture wont look like an oil spill, it will just be foggy.
so how do i open the screen up to get rid is it easy enough to do or will bloww warm air over it do it ???

there are lots of vids on how to disassemble the tp2. check youtube. just to let you know, its a long process. you have to take apart the entire phone just to get to the screen...good luck.

Hey guys. I have the Telus HTC Touch Pro2, and I have noticed a problem. The part where the touch screen half of the phone makes contact with the keyboard part, causes a scratch on the keyboard part. There was plastic on this part before, but I removed it, and now it is scratching. I don't mind this, but just wanted to warn ppl not to remove the plastic.

I had a little piece of plastic just on the right side of the keyboard. I removed this, because I tought I missed it with unpacking my TP2. But now there is a little woggle(? mean little space between screen and keyboard), so everytime I press the screen on that side of the device I can feel and hear the two parts coming together. It's really annoing and it started when I removed the little piece of plastic. For my feeling it's a last fast hot fix by HTC.
But i don't see scratshes yet. I can see dirt on the left and right of the keyboard where the sliding is, but I can easily remove this. But on the longer term, I think there will be permanent 'dirt' aka scratches on both sites....but hey, when you don't want this to happen, put your device away and don't use it
Scratches fix.
As soon as i opened my TP2, i knew the clear plastics were for protection so i left them. In time the one on the right started to peel itself off. THE FIX... I removed it completely and colored it BLACK with a Sharpie Marker, pulled out some transparent scotch tape out of my drawer and carefully traced/cut it out with a sharp razorblade. Carefully stuck it back on and VOILA! A perfectly new replacement a-la' Jerry Rig! Maybe you can cut out 2 pieces ontop of one another to reduce the play when closed? Time = Approx. 10mins.
Hey guys. Yea I just wanted to leave this as a warning to other tp2 owners who thought the plastic was just packaging.
I can't take any pictures since the only other camera is a phone. It dosen't capture the scratches properly.
I left the stickers on. However, as it turned out later, one of the stickers wasn't applied properly. Eventually, the sliding motion caused that sticker to come off and bend just a little at one corner. I cut the bent part off, and the whole thing came of a few days later.
When you get your phone, make sure those stickers are applied properly, and squeeze out air bubble from underneath if needed.

The outer frame of my phone (the metallic plastic border-frame-thing) has a scratches and gauge on it now because I dropped it few weeks ago. I know it's just the appearance but at times I just find myself staring at it with discontent.

I'd like to know this as well as I dropped mine on Friday and scratched all four corners! I thought about sanding it to give it a brushed look, but since it's plastic, I have a feeling it would look like crap.
Can you replace just that part?
Just put it in a case that covers the chrome bezel.
I had a similar issue when I had my blackberry 8900. The "chrome" around the sides started coming off, so I picked at it with my nail until it all came off. It was smooth black plastic underneath, and I'm willing to bet that's the case with the Vibrant.
You could tape off the parts you don't want scratched (screen, buttons, etc.) and use sandpaper on the chrome.

Just use a good quality liquid Wax polish used on automobiles.
I had a very similar issue as yours. I tried everything and finally came up with a solution. And it was the liquid Wax polish used on cars and bikes to make them shine. Just mask all the sensitive parts of the area of your phone in which you have scratches, then take the polish and rub it on the damaged area with optimum pressure with a clean cotton cloth (make sure a little heat is generated due to friction) . You might have to do it several time so, protect any other unwanted part.

My SGS2 was sitting on a counter next to a lit candle. Someone blew out the candle and managed to get wax on the screen. I was able to get the wax off pretty easily but it left behind this residue that I cannot seem to get off, no matter how hard I try. When the screen is 100% clean you cannot see it. But after one wipe of your finger the smudges are blatantly noticeable and even have a texture to them.
I have tried everything from Windex to Goo-Gone and nothing works. At this point I'm thinking about treating it as a scratch and polishing the screen in an effort to remove the residue. I have looked at a few different techniques and I'm not sure which one to try.
I saw a thread on another forum mentioning using toothpaste and a paper towel to scrub the screen and polish it. I'd like to give this a try but I'm nervous about permanently damaging the glass by making it foggy.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Well after trying just about everything to get the wax residue off I finally resorted to what I feared the most, a razor blade. And much to my surprise it worked flawlessly. I held the razor blade at a 45 degree angle and just went to town scraping the screen. It was able to get underneath all the residue and any remnants of the wax. After scraping with the razor blade then wiping the screen with an alcohol wipe a few times my screen now looks and feels like it just came out of the packaging. And the razor blade didn't leave a single scratch on the screen.
What didn't work:
- Toothpaste and paper towel
- Alcohol wipes
- Dish soap and paper towel
- Damp paper towel heated in the microwave for up to 2 minutes
- 50/50 mixture of distilled white vinegar and water applied with paper towel
Tooth paste wont fog up your screen trust me i do it all the time. But what i do is use this spray you can buy at your local best buy called Monster

If that don't work, get a wet paper towel/shammy cloth. Wet and microwave it for about a minute, then vigorously rub the screen with the heated cloth. This will remove the wax residue.
How about using a hair dryer to melt it first, or at least make it pliable enough to remove?
I think I'm going to try the wet/heated paper towel trick first. If that doesn't work I will resort to the toothpaste/paper towel.
If neither of these tactics work I will just drink beer.
I'm going to give this a shot when I get home from work in 45 minutes. I'll keep yuo guys posted.
sixfoot7 - I'm hesitant to take extreme heat to my phone. Especially since I do not want to melt the glue holding the screen to the bezel.

Microfiber cloth usually one that comes with a screen protector. 90 % isopropyl alcohol and distilled water mixture. Should give the screen a good cleaning. I think you can use and tv screen cleaner as well. Monster brand cleaner.

UPDATE
I gave the hot/wet paper towel trick a shot but it did nothing. I tried this like 5 times with no positive results.
So I wiped the hell out of the screen with toothpaste and paper towel. At first I thought it solved the problem but after I cleaned it all off and dried the screen it was clear that all I did was smear this crap onto a bigger portion of the screen. Now the entire bottom half of the screen feels like it has one of those glare-free screen protectors on it.
It's strange because you can't see it at all. It looks 100% fine. But it's almost sticky to the touch.
Tonight I will try using 90% iso alcohol, distilled water, and a microfiber towel.
We have some dish soap here in the office so I will give that a try right now.
After spending about 5 minutes rubbing dish soap on the screen with paper towel, I'm happy to post that this has been the best solution so far. It appears to have gotten rid of a lot of the residue left from the candle wax. However, here is still a little bit caked onto the screen.
Tonight I am going to give the alcohol/distilled water/micro fiber cloth a shot to remove the rest. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

make sure you get a screen protector as well it could of been worse than what you had and actually damaged the screen.
I actually found some 80% iso alcohol wipes in the first aid kit here in the office. I wiped the screen with 3 of them until each of them were completely dry. This appears to have finally solved the problem.

Yeah, I've never been a fan of screen protectors but after this nightmare I'll be picking one up tonight.
Just thought I'd add that it's standard practice to remove things from glass with a razor blade. One of those standard flat ones. Razor blades work for removing stickers from windows or mirrors and any other crud or buildup. They work quick and very well. Also, they don't scrach the glass unless you hold them at 90 degrees and scrape.

I know this is true for standard glass. I used a razor blade to remove the tint from the windows of one of my cars and it worked well without showing any scratches.
But is the Gorilla Glass true "glass"?
UPDATE
Well now that the phone has been sitting for a bit, I went to use it again and the screen is back to having a sticky feel to it! Now the texture is just more spread out across the screen. I am truly stumped at this point. I am close to shelling out for a damn screen replacement.
Final update: the razor blade did the trick. I have updated the OP with the solution and the tactics that failed in hopes that it might help someone with similar issues down the road.

Not sure if we have an oleophobic coating on our screens, but any alcohol solution would remove that coating. I would avoid putting alcohol on the screen as well as ammonia based solutions such as Windex. Just a heads up.

Anybody else has a cracked screen on their GS4? mine developed a hairline crack across the middle within a week of me having it. and it wasn't from a drop or anything like that. i just happened to be looking at the screen and thought there was a hair on it. tried to flick it away and realized it was a crack. Tmobile wants me to pay for the repair or replacement because they think it was accidental damage. my point is, how can this phone possibly be this fragile? just putting it in your pocket might be enough to break the screen. this can't be right.

This phone got a lower rating on durability than the iPhone 5. That being said, had the phone for 8 days, just had finished rooting and installing the wicked ROM (very nice ROM kudos). Going in pocket for keys drop the phone, here are the details:
Phone:

Phone Results:
Very fine shattering on the bottom 1/4 of the phone with one bottom to top crack from initial impact.
Secondary impact created another light cluster of cracks from left to right in the middle of screen.
Case Results:
Two of the sides broke off on impact instantly causing the phone to absorb most of the force.:crying:

Phone is fragile as hell... Military Grade cases (as stated by the case details) are crap...Buy an Otterbox.
And yes, do be careful when putting it in your pocket... regardless of tightness or fully loaded wallet.

+1. Have had it about a week. Never dropped it. Have a Spigen Neo Hybrid case on it. I noticed a crack starting on the top right side right above the camera and it extends all the way to the left finishing off where the volume up button is. I don't get it. I take very good care of my devices.

same here. I have a case and screen protector on it, and i take very good care of my devices. I can't believe just fragile this phone is.
started a similar threads few days after received it May 4th and 5th. I was in the bathroom giving my son a bath and I was on my knees near a bath mat that was about 3 inches thick shag carpet not only did the phone drop barely a foot and a half it landed on the corner on a soft surface and the peace of the bezel peeled off, the silver part on topholding the screen glass not the side bezel.
I mean come on... 18 inches off ground on to 3inch thick softtt threaded shag bath mat..
. No real crack. BUT just like everyone else tmobile said I had to pay 175.00 deductible because I damaged it..

I dropped my phone face-down this afternoon about 18 inches with a $3 case (made by BoxWave) and it doesn't have a scratch on it.
I think it's a temperamental thing where it depends on the angle, velocity, etc of the phone.
Regarding the hairline crack, couldn't T-Mo see that there were no other impacts around the actual phone? This definitely sounds like a defect more than something you caused...

I did take it back to the store to show them the phone, and its obvious that the phone was never dropped. There is no damage anywhere on the phone and the crack is a clean break. I might have to send it back to Samsung or something.

I had an accident where I spilled liquid on top of my phone's screen, it was alcohol based, so it got through the bottom speaker and went to the screen layers. After a couple of days of trying to dry it out, there are still terrible looking streaks that look like water damage. I tried using a hair dryer and a suction tool from my car mount for the phone, to remove the screen, but it won't budge. This method worked easy with my old Nexus 5. Some heat, I pull up and it comes right off. With this - I heated as much as I can, and then pulled with all my strength, but screen will not come loose from the frame.
Has anyone removed the screen on their phone, or does anyone have experience in doing such things, to help me pull this off?
I believe that if I manage to remove the screen, and clean the layers, screen should be back to 100%.
I asked a friend of mine to lend me his heat gun, but I am afraid of applying too much heat and killing the LCD, or doing bad things to the plastic body of the phone.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

NO! I know how ti disassemble the phone... What you are posting doesn't even include the screen separation from the frame.
I have been watching videos a lot, but I myself, after following them, am unable to separate screen from frame. And to be fair there is just 1-2 videos out there that actually show people doing that. In one a dude used heat, a suction tool and a precision knife to lift the screen from the frame. I don't think using a metal tool on a heated plastic, to lift a glass is a good idea, especially when the adhesive is so strong. I guess the screen from that video has already been removed, that is why it looked so doable. I bet if I try that, I will f*ck up my pristine frame (phone is 1,5 months old)

I broke that damn glass into pieces from the back holes, allowing me to insert a guitar plectrum and finally remove it all. Fixed
