Is it possible to "brick" internal ear speaker? - Desire General

Hello,
Since I tried out Froyo 2.2 my internal speaker stop working.
Did fully wipe and so on before flash, and fully flash while going back to my original ROM.
But the problem is still there... During phone calls it is total quiet, if I turn on the external speaker it works, and with headphones.
Any ideas?
Best Regards

Turn the in-call volume up with the volume keys?
(During a call of course, otherwise it'll just change system or media volume)

I've just tried out FroYo and then went back to MCR 3.1 and the internal speaker is working as good as it ever did.

Thanks for fast replay, but it is already at full. More tips?
Edit: Also went from FroYo and back to MCR 3.1

Is it the internal speaker that's the problem? If in-call volume is already max and it's still quiet, it must be a hardware fault.
If you say you've reflashed the ROM.
Did you try reflashing your Radio?

Updated my radio to - 4.06.00.02_2.
That did not solve it..
What else Can be done?

Tried to do a NAND Restore to a time when I knew it was working, stills same problem.
Is there any app that can play sounds to the ear-speaker?
Any more tips?
Please help

I'm stuck mate, can't really think of another way this could happen. Did you root the phone? Maybe you took usb usb brick a step further.
If loud speaker and headphones are fine it could indicate faulty hardware.

Yes its rooted.
Load speaker works great, headphones works great, ear speaker dont work.
HBOOT 0.75
Radio 4.06.00.02_2
Will try some other radio-updates now.
Anyone know a application that play sounds to ear-speaker? Would be great to see if that worked.
Best Regards

Try flash your misc partition again as per the usb-unbrick.
Might help.
Otherwise I can't think if anything that would use internal.
I notice if I hold the phone wrong I can barely hear anything.

Thanks alot for all your help, means alot to me.
I flashed radio 32.37.00.32U_4.06.00.16_2, and now it works! Funny, the last radio you try, it works with!
Wounder why, it is working for other people. Well anyway, it is fixed now.
Best Regards

Glad you got it sorted. As for it always being the last one, hopefully that's because once you fix it, you don't flash any more

Hi,
I have a Htc Desire 1818 with android 2.2 installed and it seems like i have the same problem with internal speaker. I did a downgrade to 2.1 Hboot 83, 32.41.00.32U_4.08.00.09 but even so it did not work. Befoare that, the phone was not rooted, after the downgrade i rooted the phone, and i installed official froyo room without radio and hboot upgrade. And i flashed radio 32.37.00.32U_4.06.00.16_2 just like you....but the internal speaker still not working.
So can you tell me your hboot version, maybe the hboot version is the problem? or have you done something else besides radio flash?
Thanks in advance.

You do know a speaker can blow like any other?? Could just need a new one

I had the same problem with my HTC Wildfire. I just got my one sent in for repair and they found out that the speaker was faulty. I did however unroot my phone before I sent it to HTC. I don't know if this is somehow related to rooting or flashing, but they fixed it for me.

Ok
Ok then, i'll go to a service. It's just sad that such things happen to a high-end device, and that in only a few months of use, and there are many who have the same problem.

Problem solved

Camera not working :(

My camera stopped working after flashing Leedroid 2.2a! I have been using RCmixHD for the past 10 days and after reverting back to my old rom it doesnt work anymore! I've tried switching sd cards erasing everything, I also make sure to wipe before flashing. Any help on this? Everything works except the camera, I'm trying some other roms at the moment and will update asap.
*I've tried loading a different version of Leedroid and opendesire and it still doesnt work! Camera just initializes but I am greeted by a blank screen!
Anyone that can help me??? I am getting mighty desperate. Could it be a possibility that the camera is broken? Everything else is working just fine.
I’m not sure it's your ROM mate. I reckon the camera's gone. As long as you fully wiped and the camera isn't working on any ROM I cant see how it can be a software problem?
Have you retried flashing a new radio?
Tried reformatting the sd card and removing partitions. The last time my camera worked was before I tried out the new sense roms 2 weeks ago lol
Will try to flash a new radio, I guess that's the only thing I haven't done since I've tried with a new kernel.
Just my luck
I have a sneaky feeling it could be the radio? I can't see if you haven’t dropped it or anything, why the camera would suddenly break. I also can't see how a ROM could break it either but hey... fingers crossed.
Should be radio related. Flash the couple of radios

Try flashing an official RUU, it may fix all the problems.
I hope it's not caused by the HD rom, because a lot of people will cry, including me.

I've been messing around with RCMixHD 0.9a, attempting to use the camera too. Flashed back to stock Froyo with no problems.
I hope you get it working. Good luck.
Can you post a logcat report of the bug?
Do you know how to do them?
the same thing happened to me a few weeks back except the camcorder worked but the camera app froze the phone and it was the same on most new roms but i flashed the oldest official firmware i could find and the corosponding radio that i would have had at the time, then all worked again, upgraded everything and it worked fine, still dont understand what happennned tho :S if that dont work then i would prob recomend to unroot and do an official ota upgrade then re root maybe
I've tried reformatting the system from the recovery still no go. The camera and camcorder now works but no image comes out, just a black empty screen. Tried multiple radio with multiple rom combinations now. Will try to flash an official rom now..
Thanks for the input guys, keep'em comin!
BTW how do you flash official roms?

please read, hes tried that many times.
to RUU just boot to fastboot and run the exe from windows and wait patiently
I'm sorry I'm a noob. Do I have to adb or stuff? So I connect my phone, go to fastboot and then just launch .exe? That simple?
and do I run the gsm wwe edition first and then run the OTA update? or go straight to the OTA? or do I forgo the OTA update?
thanks guys!
Ok now this gets even stranger..
I was about to ruu the phone and everything suddenly started working again! I just took out the batteries, swapped SD's again, reformatted my old SD (for the gold card), put back my other SD and powered on. Everything works! 10 outta 10! I did not flash any radio or new roms since last night!
This makes me wanna sell my phone and get a new one! Any idea how this could have happened?

[Solved] Tinny sound in Android Revolution HD 6.1.5 - 6.3.1

Hello,
I am quite new to rooting but after some research I was able to successfully root my Telus DHD and went with ARHD 6.1.5. Now it is working great however the sound quality overall is quite "tinny". I have searched XDA through and through and other people seem to be having the same problem with ARHD 6.1.5. I have tried the Inspire 4G/DHD 'Tinny' Audio Fix by TurboniumX, but in ARHD 6.1.5 it kills all sound completely.
I anyone aware of how to fix this?
Thank you in advance!
UPDATE
I seem to have fixed the audio problem. I have modified the TurboniumX audio fix with updated file names/locations. Sound quality is greatly improved.
All credit goes to TurboniumX for creating the patch in the first place. All I did was update it to be compatible with ARHD 6.1.5 - 6.3.1.
Attached are the files that can be applied via CWR.
I'm still looking but no luck yet... I will post here if I find a fix.

No, I found that the overall sound quality was very tinny especially during phone calls.
Did you flash the recomanded Radio for ARHD 6.1.5? It makes a huge difference between stock and recomanded Radio .

Hey,
This will resolve issues with Telus DHDs, the fix attached to my first post can be flashed via clock work recovery. If you're not using a Telus phone your mileage may very.
Place the file on the root of your SD card and reboot into recovery. Choose install zip from SD card and select the correct file.
And do I need to clear cache before doing it?

My mic died...
Ok, first of all let me say my audio sounds fantastic right now. I don't have a Revolution, I actually flashed this to my Thunderbolt running MIUI5, so I'm assuming this is probably going to be the root of my issue.
Anyway, since flashing, the sound has been great. The problem is when I make a phone call or answer a phone call. The person on the other side of the call doesn't hear me at all. This happens on 100% of my phone calls so I don't suspect it's an app issue.
This is the only time my mic doesn't work though. When I use any apps that utilize the mic (ie, voice search, voice text, .andi, etc) it pics up my voice. Also, when making a call, if I turn on speaker phone the person on the other side can hear me. The problem with this, if I'm talking about something "sensitive" I don't want to broadcast my conversation to the world .
Has anyone else had this issue? Does anyone have any suggestions other than trying a different ROM? ( I REALLY want MIUI, but I have to have good sound)

External speaker STOP working

Hi all,
I have search , but it seems that nobody have this.
Yesterday, i had trying the new CM9 Rom from Modaco ( not so bad), and when I come back with a Nandroid restore to my daily rom, i had lost the volume in my external speaker ( back of the handset)
I don't think this is a hardware problem because , the speaker works , i can hear music correctly, BUT with a very very low volume.
I have try to flash some boot.img with another rom like ARHD 5.2, and do a superwipe, but the volume stay very low.
If somebody have an idea , please help.
Thanks
Edit :13-05-2012
After a lot of tests , now my speaker does not work any more. It is completely mute in all the Rom .
If somebody have an idea : I need to know if it s a Hardware or Software problem.
If is a software problem, maybe somebody knew a solution: HHHHELP
That happened on my first (unrooted) HOX. I plugged some headphones in and removed them and it went back to normal. Never happened again.
Thanks, but not works for me.
This is my third HOX, and now it is unlocked .
I want to be sure that is a hardware problem, if i have to ask to HTC to repair it.
I would suggest using the RUU to do a complete reinstall of your phone rather than flashing boot images from other roms just in case the boot.img's you are using conflict or dont alter the same files.
You could maybe try this though:

I have relocked the phone and install the RUU 1.28, but no change. Still speaker with a very very low volume ( can't hear the ring ).
If somebody have an idea . I pray for that was not a hardware problem ( one more ) of the HOX.

Were you running any volume boost apps or anything?

Seems to me that is effectively a hardware problem.
I'm happy to be the first with a speaker problem.
I 'm tired of that phone. 3 differents handset , with 3 differents problem.
Seems to me that the GS3 have a good futur , with the shame from HTC.

[Q] Slowly falling apart...

I've been trying to get my desire where i want it to be for about two months, and more and more things just keep going wrong!
I rooted it and installed cyanogenmod 7.2 on it and it worked fine, except the headphone socket didn't work. it seemed like i needed to install radio, too so i did that, and it didn't work.
I tried installing 7.1 using clockworkmod, and the radio for that, and it didn't work either, so i went back to 7.2 and now my earpiece doesn't work! i have to be on speakerphone all the time.
I'm not really sure what to do now, but I'm afraid to keep trying to fix these problems in case I make it worse...
Hope someone can offer some advice!
Still struggling with this if anyone can help - otherwise I guess I'll send my mobile to a shop and pay someone to sort it out

Try another custom rom. Is it the same? Then it's probably a hardware problem, and you need to send it to a service.
You could also try putting your Desire back to stock by flashing an appropriate RUU for your device to see if that fixes the problems.

No sound from earpiece

I recently flashed an FM Radio app on my Note 3 (rooted SM-N900T w/CM 12.1), flashed without issue but ever since then I do not have sound through my earpiece. I am unable to take calls unless I use a headset or use the speakerphone. I have already wiped and reflashed, not only CM 12.1 again, but have also done a full factory reset and flashed stock as well but the problem persists. Anyone have a clue to get the sound back in the earpiece? This is driving me up the wall!

Not sure if you've resolved the issue yet, but I'll try to help if you haven't. You could try formatting everything in recovery instead of just wiping. Format all except your external sd of course, and then try to flash a ROM. If that doesn't work you'll probably need to use Odin to flash stock firmware and re-root and so forth. That should definitely clear up the issue if simply formatting and flashing a ROM doesn't work.
For future reference, do not flash any FM apps. It probably messes up the drivers and the apps won't work correctly for us at the moment regardless. Our N900T has an FM chip but it's not active at the moment. However, our team is currently trying to find a driver to get it functioning.

Hello and thank you for the reply, this issue is still very much unresolved so your help is much appreciated! I have already tried using Odin to flash stock firmware to no avail, the problem still persists, however I will certainly try formatting everything in recovery and hopefully that'll clear things up, that didn't even dawn on me to try. Thank you for the suggestion, I will report back my results here. And absolutely will NOT be flashing any FM apps in the near future!

Ah man... that doesn't sound good if Odin didn't fix it. No pun intended. Lol
Yeah hopefully formatting will do the trick. If not it almost seems like a hardware issue and the speaker actually went out. Using Odin and stock firmware should flash back all the correct drivers.

I had such high hopes for the formatting but unfortunately it did not work. I formatted everything in recovery and used Odin to reinstall stock but the problem persists. I can't imagine the FM app killing the earpiece as it worked prior to flashing the F'n thing but I guess I'm stuck to using a headset! If you have any other suggestions let me know. :good:
