Getting blank anonymous texts - Desire General

Anyone any ideas? They also tend to reappear when phone is restarted even after deletion.

Sent from my HTC Desire

Dude, Im getting the same sms. and Im with orange Uk too! but no idea what it can be

me too, am on orange as well
when i click on the message, it is blank. though the icon on the top looks like a sim card!
don't think its an update! very strange

me too and im on orange and i flashed the rom using gold card method...
anyone got any ideas?
on another note... first post woo woo !

I get that on orange 2, the sim card icon means the message is saved on the simcard

yep I get the same message after every reboot
I just delete it afterwards

Apparently it's voicemail related. From what I've seen this does appear to be the case.

Yeah, I recon so too, now it's been pointed out. I had one the other day when I had a voicemail waiting, not before or since though.

Anyway to stop them .. they are not stopping me doing anything .. but they are bugging me .. why only on the desire??

As posted in the themes forum:
I had this for a while (also on Orange, stock ROM) and did manage to get rid of it - problem is I can't remember exactly what I did as fiddling around so much!
I think it had something to do with a missed call or voicemail message. Try deleting an entry (or entries) from the call history with a similar time stamp to the sms message.
Otherwise, using the built in message app (not handcent etc) press Menu - Settings - Manage SIM card messages and delete from there.
One of these methods sorted it out for me but this was weeks ago...

not just the desire
I've an HTC Hero on Orange and have been getting these since I upgraded it to 2.1.

For those of you on Orange, this is due to the the way Orange update the voicemail icon.
I wrote a simple application to automatically delete the message from the SIM when it arrived, thus preventing it showing up to the user.
If you are not on Orange, I don't know!

New text messages lost on reset

My phone froze with the notification for 2 new text messages staring me in the face. It didn't respond to the power button, so i popped the battery and restarted. On restart - no 2 new text messages were found! I know the answer is probably 'no way,' but is any recovery of these messages possible?
Oh, PS - i'm on T-Mobile running the new HTC 1.33 rom.
Nope. I had this issue, 2 messages sitting at the HTC Home screen. I had to take out the battery too, SMS's were gone and I was racking my face for about 3 days finding out who sent them. If there's one thing that tickles me, it's that.
Sorry I know of no way of getting to them, check all your folders and perhaps there is a stored SMS database file it might have remnants.
I went as far as having a friend who works for my carrier, run a network resend to see if they would be pushed to my handset again, to no avail.
i found out who they were just by contacting everyone it might have been. but i seem to remember this happening before at least once or twice, so it'd be nice to know there was a fix for this or a way to recover.

Missing Incoming SMS/Text messages

My Problem is, that I recieve only some of my SMS/text that was sent to my. So I heard from friends that they sent me a text message, but I didn't get it. There is no pattern on this problem. I have a conversation with 4 sms sent to me, but i only recieve 1,2,4. Message Nr. 3 is missing. Sometimes its also the first message thats lost.
All my friend got the status for sms/text activated and they get the status "delivered" for the lost messages.
Someone else that problem?
I only have seen the problem about sending, but none with getting.
yeah the same happened to me recently, but only with my GF number (same operator), not other contacts (AFAIK: since no one complained, no sms got missed!). still no diagnosis, and no solution obviously. hope that won't lead to a hard reset, which is a major pain
I had an issue that my sim card was full - it seemed the phone was trying to save sms to the sim. I deleted a few and now all seems okay. However they can't be going to the sim any more as I have received more than I deleted.
This happened after I had been using a spare phone as I went camping and needed a phone that had a few days battery life instead of the day or so that my touch pro 2 has
thanks for your help smudge.
it's not my case since my sim card is blank, no sms or contacts in it.
however, yesterday evening I hard resetted the phone, now I'm waiting to test if the problem is still here. If it is, it must be the operator's fault, or something related to my GF device / SIM. I'll let you know if I discover something new...
I have similar problem - I'm supposed to receive SMS, but I don't. I didnt have this problem (I didnt notice it) before I installed latest version of S2U2, maybe there's some problem with it? I have S2U2 set to show incoming SMS/MMS messages...
Also I have enabled hack mentioned in this forum which powers on mobile on receiving message (so it is displayed on the screen, not only notified by blinking LED and sound as is default setting). Maybe there is some incompatibility with S2U2, Im trying to pipoint this.
ChAr
uhm...missing sms should be the operator's problem,
i've been having such issue not only with TP2.....not all the time but usually consecutive sms with only one person usually caused it
i have the same problem, tried hard resets rom flash but no success!
i am from austria!..
please somone fix that thing
after HR yesterday evening no more missed sms until now, no one I had notice of. but that doesn't make me feel safe, it needs to be checked further.
surely gunggu is true!
sorry, probably ot, but i have the opposite problem.
I have too much sms in the incoming folder: I can see my sent sms. That means an sms like (me: hi bla bla..)
the received notification is disabled. any hint?
so after some tests, I figured out my problem.
It was the programm proxy cab, that I used. If it is installed, I got only every second sms, after it is deinstalled I got every sms...
Strange problem.
Hey there people all much smarter than me. I just bout a HTC touch pro 2 (i know 2009 called and wants their phone back) anyway i am having this problem of some sms messages not getting through. i have not been able to see a pattern due to not finding out about missing messages till sometimes weeks after i missed getting them
if anyone found a solution thats not alreay mentioned in this thread (cant find an option to save stuff to the sim)(cant find mention anywhere of "program proxy cab"
any help would be great otherwise i will have to go back to using my HTC tytn 2

Text issues, fed up, its the phone, not the network!

Just been speaking to a guy from work who in the same situation as me, hes on orange, im on t-mobile, and basically, about 1 in every 10 messages sent, doesnt send, or some send twice etc...
Iv just installed a new rom and rooted, and if anything my issues are getting worse.
As i text a lot, this is rather annoying and i now it not just me!
So question is , is it a software issue or hardware?
and can it be fixed, or helped?
many of my messages are only sent half since i have my desire.....
I get the same. I kinda thought it was because I flashed with a stock ROM instead of the Orange one but when HTC sent back from repair with the Orange ROM it did the same bloody thing!
It only happens when I text Vodafone or O2. Orange, Virgin, 3 etc. are fine.
To be honest I think it's a network issue. Either that or your phone is in a weak 3g area, and as you are sending the text, it is changing from hsdpa, to 3g etc. That might cause it to double send, or fail.
Try setting it to 2g only and test it.

Yeah he's rite its prob ur signal, i get it when im on one bar hsdpa rather than, 4 bar gprs lol also data affects txt msgs, it sometimes happens when my fone is sending or receving data
if its signal why does it happen on my tmobile phone, and my friends orange phone???
I turn 3g off most of the time, makes no difference , still messes up.
Both networks share the same masts don't they? If you are both in the same office and connected to the same mast that would explain it. Also this thread only has people complaining from tmob, and orange. I'd say that is a pointer. I'm on O2 and have never had this problem. I also don't remember seeing any other threads on the same issue.
I'm by no means saying this isn't an issue for you, but I'd be looking more at the network than the handset. Have you rang Tmob and asked them what might be up?
For me, this issue is related to spesific contacts. When I text some of my contacts, I always get an error message. I have reentered their number in phonebook, but it does not help.
This is rather annoying, as one of the contacts is my wife...

Not a network issue. It also happens on Vodafone. I don't have so many messagee broken as you to but one out of eight is not sent. I think it desires problem.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Yep same on my unlocked unbranded desire on 3 uk getting pissed off with it
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Im on orange generic non-branded phone with bog standard Sence ROM, I noticed I get this and as I have notice will all phones it only tends to happen if im sending a text at the same time I receive it, Of course actually getting it to resend is a bugger! and normally requires a battery pull, Im used to it these days but
Has anyone who is having problems tried a different messaging application, e.g Handcent?
Regards,
Dave
I've posted all of this before and there are loads of threads on this topic already
If you uninstall chomp/handcent (or any third party messaging app - even the HTC sense one) and use 'messages' instead this problem goes away.
Like you, I would get send failed/multiple messages received quite often, but since using the default app i've now sent 1, 127 messages without 1 problem I used to get this all of the time and this is what has cured it for me
1) uninstall any messaging software you have downloaded from the market
2) download sms unread count and sms popup from the market
3) put the sms unread count widget on the homescreen
4) configure sms popup to your liking
5) send messages to your heart's content
This uses the default 'messages' app rather than anything else and works perfectly
For me this happened continually, regardless of if the phone had just been hard reset and only had the stock message app.
In my case it was an issue with a local mast and the switching between WCDMA and GSM signal.
The issue went, as some other people have said, when I switched the phone to GSM only - keep in mind just turning Mobile data OFF isn't the same thing, you must go into settings and select 'GSM only'.
Give it a try and see if the issue remains.
There does seem to be several causes for the same issue so what works for me / someone else may not work for everyone

This was part of my problem too as my signal at home constantly moves between 3G and E, however, the method I posted above has fixed this too

Same issue for me one contact can sms me but every time i try to reply it fails other contacts seem to work just fine.
Sorry but how do you uninstall the sense messaging app?
This is defiantly a problem with the desire not network. I've never had this problem before with any of my phones. but since got the desire it happens a lot. it seems to be when I try to send multiple texts very quickly. plz stop blaming the network it didn't happen when I had an iPhone so how do you explain that.
I also have an issue sending multiple sms. My Desire is on Vodafone, unrooted.
Whether I use the default messaging app or Chompsms, if I try to send a message to multiple people it immediately fails to most of the recipients.
The phone will give me repeated warnings (vibration/failed msg reports) again and again, until it has managed to send the sms to all recipients. It will generally complete the request eventually, but in the process it's thrashing my battery down as I have to keep checking if the new notification is a warning or in fact an sms that I have received from someone else.
This behaviour is absolutely AWFUL, and although I used to forward on jokes that I received to a list of about 20 people several times a day, I just cannot do it any more. The same action using the same sim in my old Dream completes fine without a hiccup.
how do you uninstall the htc sense messaging app?
do you just mount /system and remove the Mms.apk from the App folder?
will this still mean that the default messaging app is not removed?

[Q] I cannot send SMS GSM Orange Network

Since this morning I am unable to send SMS on my UK GSM Orange Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
I am able to make and recieve calls, make and recieve MMS and recieve SMS but cannot send SMS.
Where in ICS can you check the SMS Message centre? Ive tried to view it in the *#*#info#*#* and there is a bit which says SMSC, but if I put in the orange message centre number which I believe is +44 797 3100973 and click update, the update fails. There no other settings I can find in Messager app, and the APN's are correct as I can send/recieve MMS and browse the internet etc.
Ive done a reset also, still same problem.
Can anyone help?
Don't hit update. Just type the number in and exit.

Orange web help states that the following; http://help.orange.co.uk/orangeuk/support/personal/657975
Ill ring customer services to see if they can send me the message centre number or something. Seems like a bug to me in ICS as this message centre number should be acessible through the messenger app!
Make sure you have the right number. I had the same problem. Updating did not work. Typing it in did.

call orange and ask them to send you an ORANGE MESSAGE UPDATE (OMU)
Have fun getting it sorted. Will be surprised if they fix it within 3 attempts
Fixed it myself!
Since you cannot (currently) go into messages options and set the message centre number normally, you have to use the info screen and the smsc bit.
However you cannot just put in the orange message centre number ( +447973100973). You have to encode it using the following site http://www.twit88.com/home/utility/sms-pdu-encode-decode and at the bottom left box type: n the message centre number in smsc then press convert. It will then give you on the right a Hexadecimal PDU Message. Copy the number excluding the letters and do not include anything after the 11. Ie for orange on the Samsung galaxy nexus the smsc is
0791449737019037. Click update and wait a few seconds then exit and it should work!
What a faff. Ics really needs the message centre number option in the messaging app.
Hope this helps someone.

I had exactly the same problem which the above has helped me fix, so thanks very much Marcus. For info Vodafone converts to "0791447758100650".
I had the same issue as well on my nexus.
I had this issue but fixed it by inserting a SIM from another network(Orange), waiting for it to set up and then swapping back to my Three SIM.
Here's the one for Three UK(contract) just in case anyone needs it 0791447728008000

Didn't work for me On Orange uk. Been having this problem for over a week it's really bugging me. Going to ring orange tomorrow. Probably won't be much help though. Last time i rang and they asked what phone i was using so i told them Galaxy Nexus and their system didn't recognise it
I have this problem and have not been able to find a solution. I'm in the US using SpotMobile. Their smsc is +16104680009, which converts to 07916101640800F911. When I enter this and press update, it gets saved (without the two ending 1s) and the messaging app doesn't give an error when sending a message (and I get charged for it -_-), but the recipient never receives the message.
I've also tried @rbiter's solution, but it doesn't work. The smsc doesn't get saved and I get an error when sending messages.
Any help on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
Take off the last "11". It should be 16 digits, not 18.
Sneaky Way of Fixing this
I too had the same problem. Out of curiosity, I went to check the Hidden phone settings on my Galaxy Nexus, I love looking at the temperature of the battery, network location and all that good stuff. But apparently ICS is glitchy regarding the SMSC settings. It apparently wipes the SMSC number as soon as you enter the hidden phone settings... To find this I went to a series of steps. The first thing I tried was popping in other SIM cards from my carrier (Telcel GSM in Mexico) All of them seemed to work fine.. And my primary SIM which didn't work on my Galaxy Nexus worked on an old Telcel-Locked phone I had.. so this sent me scrambling.. The next thing I tried was to update the SMSC through the process of encryption provided in an earlier post, and normally.. none of them which worked.. I then thought that the Phone must be keeping an erroneous configuration of my SIM card, so I resetted the phone, deleted my G-Account.. and still it would not work. I then popped another Telcel GSM SIM card in my old Blackberry 8520, went to the SMS settings and it had the SMSC number, which for Telcel Mexico is +5294100001410... I then popped in my primary SIM card which was giving me trouble in my Galaxy Nexus and when I went to the SMS settings in the Blackberry.. the SMSC value was gone.. empty.. So I just typed it in and hit save. Popped the SIM card Back in the Galaxy Nexus.. and It's all good again. Android ICS in the Galaxy Nexus just wipes the SMSC value as soon as you enter the hidden menu and is unable to rewrite it to the SIM card. I had to use the Blackberry to properly configure my SIM card again.. Funny, I thought I would never use the Blackberry for anything away.. I got to use some of the junk I keep around..

It gets saved without the last "11" anyway, so it doesn't make a difference.
It's looking like putting the SIM card in another phone and changing the SMSC might be the only way. Too bad I don't have any old phones that take SIM cards
Shoot, was hoping that would work for you!

Did Orange send out any updates to you? They refused to for me for 24 hours as my number only just got transferred from Virgin.
Edit: Turns out it was just a coincidence that my smsc got deleted as the number porting actually failed (I can receive texts and make/receive calls which is a bit odd).
I also ended up ballsing this up when I was looking at the 4636 menus.
For those interested, the number/code for T-mobile UK is 0791449785788938

[Q] D855 on Three in UK - Voicemail Notification stays on all the time

As per the topic, I am on Three in the UK and the voicemail notification doesn't ever switch off, even after deleting voicemails (no saved voicemails either).
I was previously with EE/Orange with this phone (as well as in USA & Canada), and the notification disappeared moments after deleting messages with all other providers. It makes me think there is something different about the way Three deals with voicemail as opposed to a purely Android 5.0 fault as I upgraded prior to moving to Three.
If anyone has any advice I would appreciate. I have tried other solutions online (leaving myself a voicemail and waiting before hanging up after deleting it, ending the process of the 'phone' app, etc) to no avail.
Thanks BT
Any ideas dudes.... this is figuratively killing me!
Any thoughts yet???
Can only get rid of it temporarily by ending the phone app but returns on either getting a new voicemail and then won't disappear, or when restarting.
Best, BT

I am still plagued by a permanent notification on my screen. 3 apparently doesn't send the typical 'ping' about voicemails and only sends SMS so they don't reset normally as do other networks. I can clear it manually, but as soon as I get a new voicemail, its there again until I clear manually again.
Problem permanently resolved -- I went to 3 and got a new SIM card and the problem is completely solved.
