Hi Guys,
I'm just a noob as you can probably see from my number of posts on this forum.
Just bought my HD2 (Virgin Mobile) a couple of months ago, and am following the forum and website every single day for new things to learn/install etc.
As i am a big Yahoo Messenger user, i have tried different 3rd party software e.g. Palringo, Nimbuzz etc for yahoo chatting but is not really compared to the real thing and by that i mean (..and please don't shoot me) the iphone version.
I bought the HD2 for the simple reason that i hate Apple, don't like them one bit but some apps like Yahoo messenger are cool .
I like the things like shake to buzz someone or the interface of the app or sending files feature etc.
So now i am urging/challenging all the great devs in this community, can someone port the Iphone version of Yahoo Messenger app to WM or design one from scratch but with all the features that it has?

try out the oz messenger, search the forum as oz messenger, hope so that some of the messenger version matches HD2. as far as I remember theres a lot of variation , combination and versions. try until you find the most suitable one for HD2 ..

Thanks. Apparently this uses your SMS and not your internet connection. I have around 3000 inclusive text and unlimited, well around 1GB, internet plan so i would've liked to use my internet connection.
I think i just need to wait until a wm version same as the iphone will pop up, but i would still never buy an Iphone
the oz messenger uses date not text service. I use it everyday. It has yahoo, AOL, and hotmail (I think). this program supports auto start on windows start up, Background sounds and Alerts. It supportsBuzz, smilies, and auto sawing of Conversations. I used it with the touch (QVGA), Touch Pro (VGA), & Touch Pro2 (WVGA). seems to work on all resolutions. It should work on Data Connection & Wifi.

This doesn't work on wi-fi
it doesn't connect to yahoo to save my life, i've tried everything
can't even un-install it!!!
try slick from lonelycatgames, it has feature for Buzz and send files.

last bill i paid was $350 and when i found the reason why it was yahoo mssgs which were counted as text mssg so i had to get an t-mobile unlimited txt mssg plan too since i use yahoo mssngr everyday on phone.

i got the HTC OZ program but AIM doesnt work...it wont let me log in....anyone else has the same prob?
Ive searched many times for a unified client but never stumbled across palringo.. Seems pretty solid so far, thanks for the link.
I use Fring, and for Sype calls it can't be beat.. But palringo supports MSN, Yahoo, AIM, IRC, and xamp (Google chat, Livejournal, etc). I am still getting used to it, but so far it seems to be a winner.. Thanks.

Palringo is the cleanest all-in-one to date. But chatting it up with others that have Palringo installed is the best way to go.
the only IM program I use is aim. I've read the comparison chart and a few threads I found searching but I haven't really seen one that comments directly on the aim functionality of the programs.

I use IM+ and i like it.
Agile Messenger all the way. Has softkey support for WM5/6 which IM+ does not. Plus IM+ doesnt auto-reconnect if you drop cellular signal. Agile does.

auto reconnect seems like a must have feature if you want people to be able to communicate to you on aim reliably.
i was looking for an IM program that works with sms so i downloaded mobile IM (oz communcations) via medianet and it works ok, i dunno why but windows mobile makes everything seem complicated. i had the same prog on my old sony ericsson w810 and it seemed to work a lot smoother
im also looking for a good Aim client sort of like the one similar to the sorry ass t-mobile sidekick... an aim client that includes ur buddies away messages next to there name and also has there icon picture visable
I've noticed a majot trend- seems like almost everyone here wants something that used data instead of SMS for IM. I'm quite the opposite, and am looking for a client that works like the original OEM, that uses SMS. I actually don't have a data plan, and even if I did, I have unlimited IM through SMS and would rather use that than a data connection.
I've found CABs of the Oz client used on both AT&T and T-Mobile, and I've installed both, but both give me the same strange error when I run it.

Any ideas or hints on this one? Any good IM clients out there for WM6 that would use SMS, or at least give you the option to use SMS?

slick is definitely the best.. its so fast to when i send messages it actually is instant unlike other programs. plus it free and supports a wide variety of protocols.
Without question, agile is just as "instant" as slick and FAR better looking than slick (which looks like it was directly ported from a series 60 device and doesnt even utilize the windows mobile interface.) Have you even tried it?

The Agile that u uploaded , I can't get to work at all. I can't Log into AIM or Yahoo even though my Interenet is working on my Phone ?
Am I doing something Wrong ?

Go figure it's having problems...the proxy used by this program is currently offline, but it is a temporary problem. Expect it to be resolved soon. It is NOT the program, but the web proxy. Please be patient and it'll work soon.

i have used agile before and i admit the slick interface isn't as nice as agile, but its not unbearable. i actually kind of like the simplistic streamlined look though. plus slick has features such as file transfers, offline ims, messages history, and a lot more configuration options.
also doesn't agile require you to purchase a key after a certain amount of uses?

yeah it doesnt work for my Dash either. The first couple searches went through but after my Dash shut off, it stopped working after that.

I'm using Agile Messanger and I'm absolutely satisfied.
i am using the new skype. it works good with wifi and chatting also works with gprs after you once connected via wifi, the first time.
There is a new one that does them all (AIM, MSN, GTalk, Yahoo, ICQ, and Jabber) that is currently free and Java based. I quit using IM+ (which I paid for) and am using it exclusively. Currently the beta testing is closed while I think they upgrade their servers, but should open up again shortly I think).
It is supposed to be for the crackberries, but works great on my Dash and K-Jam:

Works on my Excalibur and Blackjack..
I find Octro little bit strange as I don't see all of my contacts there and also Octro does not download the "nicknames" from ICQ server so I see only their IDs
Anyone know where I can get the OzInstantMessenger cab?
Agile Messenger is all you'll need. There are some annoying bugs here and there, but for the features it has, I believe it is the best option out there.

Wow, I have been using Octro for Gtalk but I had no idea that they also supported Y! and MSN! Is this a a new feature? I just updated mine like 3 weeks ago. That's wonderful (makes my paid version of IM+ looks positively lame).
Edit: Ahh, I am running v1.0 and v1.01 onwards added support for multiple chat clients. How fantastic!

it used to be until they unleashed that crazy pricing scheme. Plus, I get errors on staturp from it. It's never been the most stable either.

1.03 just came out about 3 days ago. It now adds vibration to the smartphone edition (which was lacking). It enables automatically in the "meeting" profile, etc.
such a great app. I'm hoping they add some SMS relay to the system too to save battery life (like Verichat had)...

McHale, did you have to do anything special to get JiveTalk running on your Dash or KJam. What version did you install? I am wanting to load this on my P3600 if at all possible, but I am getting java errors.

wall i just got my phone a few hours ago, and there is no im client and when i look in the at&t store it says i have to pay. Well the touch pro aka fuze for att, had a free app, wth? anyway i cant get another that haves aim/msn/ yahoo or if possible someone extract the program from the fuze?

Unistall the Windows Live version the phone came with, go to Marketplace and install it from there, is a new one which comes with MSN Messenger, you'll have the shortcut on the start menu. I also succesfully use Nimbuzz (which is a native Windows Mobile app) where you can add msn, aim, yahoo, etc. accounts
i did search and checked out the mentioned im apps, how ever the one form att on the touch pro 2/ att fuuze was light and i liked it and is it possible that i can download the room or w.e. and extract the app onto my new tilt 2

It was called the OZ IM App, but in the fuze it was HTC_Coke_att (Yeah I know pretty funny) And it works on the TP2
Uggggh! today I was FORCED to buy this 20$ texting app because the Windows messenger just sucks, it crashes and freezes and doesnt open after is closes sometimes without a soft reset... just venting here, done plenty of hard resets and stiill no luck, anyone else have this problem?

You have a touch pro 2 and using winmo messaging? Why aren't you using the Manila messaging app? Just curious.
The manilla one isnt that much better lol, and there isnt a screen where you can see all the messages in the manilla one, it just goes by each contact

its called SMS-chat, its really good, and it comes with a free trial for like 2 weeks. It kinda works like iPhone messaging app
There is some update on the HTC website for WM messaging problems. I just installed it, but haven't tested it yet.
man you must really love your texting, if you paid $20.00 for a texting app...
Have you tried the newest build of the HTC client? I used to hate, hate, hate, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate the HTC messaging client, but play around with a HD2 with the new T-mobile ROM and it....actually works. How weird.
