micro HDMI to DVI - EVO 4G Accessories

Hello,
I'd like to connect my EVO to my desktop LCD monitor to watch video on bigger screen. Has anyone tried it yet? Anyone know of a micro HDMI (type D) to DVI cable or an adapter? thanks.

you might be able to make your own... just get an DVI to HDMI cable and splice on a type D end to it, not sure if it will go backwards though...

thanks, but I am interested in making sure I am going about the right way. I want make sure all the HDMI 1.4 features are supported in this solution and its fully compatible. Has anyone tried it yet?

Not really sure what HDMI 1.4 features you expect to get when your end connector is a DVI port. If you cant find a cable that goes from the Evo to DVI then you should be able to just go to HDMI then use an adapter to go to DVI. I used have my computer hooked up to my Home Theater via a DVI <> HDMI cable. Worked great, Full HD and all.

thanks. I read there a bunch of new features in hdmi 1.4 and wanted to make sure I go with an optimal option. Seems like an hdmi cable and a DVI adapter is the way to go. This way I can connect to hdtv and lcd monitor.

Yes, its true that HDMI 1.4 is great and has a lot of new things, including 3D support. But keep in mind, this is a phone. It doesn't even output 1080p video, so you'll be fine with the adapter.

Yeah, it can only to 720p output to a monitor/TV.
Something else to consider, HDMI integrates video and audio over 1 connection. If you use a DVI converter, you will lose the audio. I don't know if the EVO will allow you to output the audio out via the headphone jack at the same time or not, but I very much doubt it. So in other words, by converting the signal, you're going to lose all the audio and kinda makes it useless.

hmm.. well that sucks. any ideas on how to get around this problem?

Sure, you can get an HDMI to DVI With Audio converter..but then again, you might as well buy a new monitor with DVI inputs for the price..

[Q] MHL-HDMI Adapter to VGA

Hi,
does anyone know an adapter to change the HDMI signal from my MHL-adapter to VGA?
I need it because of the data projectors at my university.
I have already tried with 2 adapters: HDMI-> DVI and DVI-> VGA
but it didn't work.
Thx for your help
Just wait for something like that : http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/bizlink-mhl-to-vga-tv-out-adapter-black-p29960.htm
Or buy this type of cable, that could be better than buying a new adapter :http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/soonitrade/VGA_HD-15_Male_Cable_(1).jpg

HDMI has no analogue component so it can't be passively converted to analogue (VGA.) Similarly, VGA-HDMI cables are designed for devices that can output HDMI-over-VGA, and won't work either. You need an active adapter for that.

[Q] HDMI to RCA?

Hi, as you know SGS2 doesn't support video via 3.5mm jack like SGS does, and I was wondering if there's any way of converting HDMI to RCA?
I found this cable:
www .amazon .com/HDMI-RCA-VGA-Cable-1-8ft/dp/B002ZUI68G/ref=pd_cp_e_3
(remove spaces from the link)
but I doubt it would work as you need digital to analog conversion and the cable doesn't seem to have any "black box" that could do it.
Can anyone reccommend any (cheap) ways of connecting SGS2 to TV via RCA using phones USB port?
BTW if Samsung did it same way like they did with SGS it would make peoples lifes so much easier!!!

This is something I have tried and did not work. I bought an MHL adaptor for Samsung S2 and also HDMI to RCA cable with black box. The video and audio did not work with HDMI to RCA cable. Need help here.

From my understanding you need the micro usb mhl to scart then a scart cable going into a hdmi to composite downgrader and then you can hook up the rca cable - I haven't done this as would work out quite expensive but quite sure it would work as your problem is the hdmi to rca cable they never work as don't downgrade signal.
If anyone finds a cheaper way please let me know.
Also wondering if there is anyway to use allshare with apple tv box as I have one of these - if anyone cam help that would be great.
Apologies for highjacking thread a little bit but as a new user I'm unable to post my own thread yet!
Thanks in advance.

[Q] HDMI to VGA converter advice

Does anyone have any suggestions for a HDMI to VGA converter to use with the Xoom? Every so often I'll invite over a few people and play movies in the backyard. I've been using a laptop and projector, but after getting the Xoom I've been thinking about getting rid of that laptop.
Related question. Are there any HDMI/VGA converters that split off the audio? Should I even bother with that or just plug speakers into the headphone jack?
Kramer Electronic has 1, a VP-422
is it not possible to convert to vga without digital scalers ?
Not without a transcoder. VGA is analog, HDMI is digitial, they send a completely different kind of signal. DVI-D and HDMI are the same however (aside from the lack of audio, of course), so if your monitor or TV has DVI-D, then you can just get an adapter on eBay or monoprice for a couple bucks.
from what i've read micro hdmi doesnt have the right pins for a DVI connection.

Perhaps that's why it didn't work for me when I tried... I just ended up buying a different monitor with HDMI.
Xoom does not have the required +5V out that is needed for DVI. That's why it won't work.

[Q] MHL for audio, possible?

Hey all,
Not sure if this is possible but I want to somehow have audio out through the MHL/micro usb port of my s2. Reason being that it would be much nicer in the car to have 1 cord for charging and music rather than one cord for each.
Does the MHL port support this or could there possibly be an accessory to change the HDMI out feature to audio-only aux?
thanks!
also wondering about this for my AV receiver
i went ahead and ordered the HDMI MHL cable to test Spotify through my AV Receiver.
Since the HDMI audio is digital data I wouldn't bother researching down this lane.
But there certainly are docking stations that charge the SGS2 and offer a 3.5mm line-out at the same time, so it must be possible.
Pinout anyone?

Don't understand what you mean here?
If you'd like to use the HDMI audio you would have to add a digital-analog-converter in order to feed your car stereo the analog line audio it needs. Plus I don't think the connector will allow charging while in HDMI mode.
So maybe it's best to put that port on the SGS2 into Home Dock or Car Dock mode. You might get some further help wit the pinout in this thread.

I think you're getting me confused with the original poster. My question was in regards to outputting just audio (Spotify) through my Onkyo AV receiver. There shouldn't be any issue with this, right? I've only seen the MHL-HDMI cable used on a TV directly, and not through a receiver.
Also, would it be possible to plug the SGS2 with the MHL-HDMI cable directly into the HDMI 1.4 input on the back of the TV, and use the ARC feature (Audio Return Channel) to feed either 2.1 or 5.1 audio back through the HDMI cable linking the TV and receiver to the surround sound speakers?
Wait, if HDMI out audio is digital out, can we play around to get a clean digital out signal that would play nice with portable external DACs?
Sounds impossible but who knows?

That's exactly what happened, my bad.
Unfortunately I haven't got the HDMI cable for the SGS2 yet but for the ARC feature I'd say it depends on your TV. Maybe you can try feeding an existing HDMI source to it and verify that a HDMI-in on the TV can be routed via ARC to your AVR.

Yes, supposedly my TV can do that with the Freeview HD tuner audio, but I'm waiting for my antenna to put that to the test.
Solution: HD Fury II or HD Fury III. They have 2 channel analog output from HDMI input.
To clear up some things about MHL:
First of all MHL is not HDMI. By default, your phone needs to support MHL and your TV/Receiver/whatever also needs to be able to receive MHL signals.
There is no fixed connector type for MHL (the plug can either be proprietary or a readily available one such as USB or HDMI). Phones have MHL hardware connected to their USB ports. Upcoming TVs will have additional MHL hardware connected to their existing HDMI inputs.
You cannot use an ordinary USB<->HDMI type MHL cable to connect your phone to any HDTV. It will not work. You need an active cable that receives a MHL signal from the USB side, internally decodes it and reencodes it as HDMI, and then outputs it via the HDMI side of the cable to any HDMI device. That's why the cables are expensive.
The good news pertaining to this thread:
The active MHL cables we've seen so far are very small and compact. Basically the only thing you need is an MHL decoder which has an audio line out. There is no need for a HDMI DAC.
I can confirm that the Samsung MHL-HDMI cable for the SGS2 outputs both video and just audio beautifully to my home theatre receiver.
MHL to VGA is an option
Please excuse the necroposting. For future people who run across this thread when searching for MHL Audio products.
I discovered these products after some searching around:
http://vgaadapter.blogspot.com.au/2012/02/ikross-mhl-micro-usb-to-vga-display-and.html
http://www.ecvv.com/product/2822782.html
I'm not sure of the quality of the audio DAC but its an option.
But so is the Samsung Desktop dock or the car dock for charging and playing music at the same time through one plug.
i can't believe, but ac adaptor charger and p2-p2 or p2-rca cable work like a charm here

[Q] micro hdmi to displayport

Does a micro hdmi to displayport cable exist? In theory they should, but I have not been able to find one anywhere.

Unless your laptop has a "display mode" where you can use your laptop's display with another computer(the only computer I know of that can to that is the iMac), that's not going to work.
Won't work thatisn't an input port.

As stated this wont work the way you want it to, but you can get an adapter for only a couple of dollars and this is the method that I used to hook up my atrix to an older TV.

This isn't meant to imply that you can use this to plug your Atrix into a laptop. Laptop display ports of any sort simply aren't designed to be used as inputs but adapters to those types of ports do exist.

Okay. You said "older tv" so I was thinking you found some kind of rca adapter or something. Don't really consider an hdmi capable tv "older".....
