Market Fix after Root? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, I have heard that some people are having issues finding apps after rooting. What is the fix for that? I believe I saw it somewhere but none of the threads have been updated so I thought this would be better than people having to dig through posts.
Also, I am pretty sure this is causing me to not be able to update Qik. I fired it up and it asked if I wanted to update it, I said yes, and it did a Market search and said it couldn't find anything.
And by the way, I just did toast's root method, not flipz ROM because it breaks 4G.

The Market fix involves flashing the stock rooted ROM and breaking 4G for now. However, I'm getting some problems with this method for some reason. I can't find Quick Settings or Handcent SMS on the Market, and those are 2 of my most-used apps. Does anyone have any ideas?

I haven't rooted my Evo yet, it's still stock, and I also can't find Handcent in the market.

same here..... stuck with chomp until I find a solution and I did the OTA update with no luck..... Also no sign of a way to update Qik

i thought i was the only one seeing market issues after root.

Anyone got the apk for Handcent and qik update?

Why is everyone scared to break 4g data? if you stay in area with no 4g, then you dont need it

Well, I live in a 4G area...and it is the only reason I'd switch from AT&T to Sprint over say Verizon.

I have not rooted my EVO yet and Quick Settings and Handcent SMS do not show in the market.

The userdebug ROM by toast will not display protected apps in the market.
The rooted stock zip WILL display them.
Handcent and a bunch of other apps simply don't show up in the market even on none rooted phones.
So the market on the rooted stock zip is working just as the market on the one rooted phone. the only problem is in the market with the userdebug ROM.
I hope this helps.

Ah, thanks for that update! This is very strange, indeed. They were there when I got my EVO last week. I wonder what could have happened to them!

http://www.androidfreeware.org/gettemp/1275133710_Handcent_SMS_3.0.apk
heres the link to handcent apk

I don't even have an EVO (Hero), and I can't find either of these apps in the Market. So this is obviously not an issue with the EVO

Well when I can't update Qik from the phone because it can't find it in the Market, I would assume it has to be from rooting it.

Yeah, I searched for Qik the other day and couldn't find it. Strange things are afoot.

Interesting slidescreen is also missing.

There are apps missing after you root. For EX: calltrack...There are many others but that's the one i remember the most, because i used it prior to rooting.

Im not on root and I still can't see them so I don't think root is what's doing it.
Quick question how do you disable the stock messaging app and make handcent the default one

Would Sprint Apps Work With Cyanogen Mod?

Just flashed CM6 onto my evo, in the process i lost all my sprint apps. I was curious if the sprint apps would still work on my evo, even with sense uninstalled, and if so, does anyone have the apks?
Thanks in advance
They should work. I believe you can download them all with the Fresh Evo ROM.

To expand on this a little more. Download any 2.1 ROM that has the Sprint programs you wish to install. Extract the ROM. Go into the folder "system > app" and look for whatever .apk you need/want. Keep in mind not all of the Sprint apk's will work in 2.2. I personally have tried Sprint Navigation, VVM, and TV which all work great.

Go to the themes and apps section. There is a thread with the title of CM6 tricks and tips. On the first post they have the apk's to the ones you want. I would link it but I'm on my phone.

the voicemail app with Cyan i thought was the same as sprints vvm app, or atleast function the same to me.
I got the removed-apk's from the fresh thread, and sprint tv works for me.
Stoked.

Here are the VVM files I use, haven't had a problem, if you do run into some hiccups, hit up the CM6 thread and "Search this thread" for "voicemail" should find an answer to whatever ails you.
I just put these on my SD card and used EStrongs File Explorer to launch/install. Some people have said VVM takes a bit to lock in to your account but for me it was instantly.

Have you restarted since you installed VISIONary? if so click the icon and if it says device already rooted then it should work fine. I am thinking your device is not rooted.
When I first rooted my phone 2-3 days ago, I didn't think I would need Titanium backup. I thought I could manage with App Control. Now, I've factory reset my device twice. Once to get rid of the longer tempt root as it was not allowing me the use 1-click root. Second time was because my stock messenger wouldn't stop showing the notification in the taskbar. Yes, I turned off notification in the setting menu. The first reset I used App Control, it was a pain. I had to install all the apps one by one, and no system data was saved. The second time around I had just saved all my apps and system data using Titanium Backup. With just a few clicks I had all my apps reinstalled and data was all back. Now as I play around with Titanium, I noticed features like "lapels" which makes backing up only system apps with data (green) and user apps easy. I also learned it's best to pony up the $6 to be able to get multiple backups should you need it. If anyone ever used restore points in windows you could surely see the benefits of having multiple backups.
Now that I have a general knowledge of Titanium Backup, I'd like to erase all my backs and start over. Unfortunately I don't know where I could find my...backups...and delete them. I've tried the batch/delete all, to no avail. I might just have to erase from the sdcard or make another folder.
Anyways, I HIGHLY recommend you get Titanitum Backup. It doesn't matter if it's the free or paid one.
I did notice that it didn't save my launcher (pro) profile setting, ex. icons, and what not. It also doesn't save the data within the app, ex. I lost all my Angry Bird progress. But, I don't think the Titanium Backup is able to save such info, yet.
wireless tether shoot me and titanum are the best and seem only good ones for non developers
GOOD ROOT APP! Hot Reboot
I found one the other day called "Hot Reboot". Its like quickboot only it adds one great feature... fast rebooting. Its not a system reset like many other fast rebooters but it actually reboots the phone in an insanely fast speed. Its about $1 on the market and worth ever penny. At least try it out... its great for people who use a lot of apps and they reside on the sdcard which makes booting slow. And good for impatient folks

How to update apps t-mobile added to G2 rom (bloatware)

how do I update apps like Amazon, photobucket, etc.? I can't update them from the market since I didn't download the from there in the first place.
download it from the market. Just try it. Download it, dispite it not shown in the market as an update. Once installed the phone and your market will see it as an update.

yep
First time I logged into the market, it autoupdated all the junk. Goggles and visual voicemail won't update but that's it.
Yeah, I didn't even find "Visual Voicemail" in the marketplace anymore.
I'm pretty sure that T-Mobile might have pulled it from the market entirely.
Anyway, I can't seem to update Google Goggles either. I've tried several times, but it never seems to actually update and install the latest version.
Would it be safe to use Titanium Backup to remove that system application? Or is that not even possible, considering I've read that people have tried to remove the "bloatware" but it just seems to reappear after a reboot.
Any insights?

Yeah you can remove the bloatware from your device. Well, disable not remove. Read on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809231
Ha.
No way, Jose!
I still have my HD2, it's just collecting dust on my computer desk right now.
I thought about using it as a fly swatter, but that seemed too dramatic!
KIDDING!
But yeah, that thing is legendary, so I couldn't just be rid of it.
And thanks for pointing me in the right direction man, good lookin' out!
If you don't want to disable the app which is very easy to do over terminal emulator, try freezing the app with titanium backup. That way you can see how your phone will work with it disabled. For example if you freeze/disable the stock messenger app no messaging app will work after that until you unfreeze/enable the stock one. Same thing with youtube. If you freeze the app and download the newer one off the market it wont work.
Some 3rd party app depend on the stock app to be functional. Let me know if you need help disabling an app. I'll make a video. I <3 my new camera. I traded a gun for it.
I can't seem to update Goggles...
I've disabled the application, then tried to update it from the marketplace, and still nothing manages to install.
I have successfully updated every other system application through the marketplace, with the exception of Goggles.
How can this application be updated properly?
Have you tried to enable it then update?

Yeah, of course.
But from what I've been told by a few other users... it's a bug in the ROM that doesn't allow certain handsets to update that application.
I mean, unless you have been able it?

Installed this earlier today. Seems to be working good so far. I like the Auto update option over wifi setting. It also seems to be more responsive than the 3.2 that I have been using.
Sweet, my biggest annoyance with the market was how I could only chose between auto-updating and possibly wasting my data plan (minor I know but I don't NEED the facebook update instantly) and having to manually do it. Love how MIUI has the option.

mine is working good to on MIUI I wonder how much earlier did we actually get this update from other people who will get it from their carriers?
After installing this, I started getting "popup" ads in my status bar. After uninstalling they went away.
Did I miss a setting or something? Lookout scan shows no threat, but I can only assume it was this market given the evidence...

what apps have you removed after root?

Just wanting to start a list as to which apps/files have been been checked to see if after removing won't mess up the phone. I want to debloat this as much as possible
I've removed all at&t apps except smart wifi
removed Polaris office, live wallpapers, Facebook, city ID
want to remove YP but it says LG YP and looks like there is some link to it from the contact book that may break, if someone has already done that please post.
Not going to touch any Google apps yet since looks like some are getting security errors on reboot
what else have you guys deleted and haven't had any issues
has anyone deleted that other setting app for tabbed view... May just disable it since I don't really need two next to each other

You have to root it and then use titanium backup to remove or freeze apps.
Better to freeze them first to make sure you don't delete something that will cause issues later.
Hope this helps.

Not a good idea at all until we have usable recovery. As linked above, some of the apps are intertwined tightly within the lg security and you will lock down your phone if you remove the wrong app. The linked poster removed Google Movies and that borked his phone.
Freezing is fine for me for now. It is not as if the bloat is causing lag, this phone is fast.
The security issue seems to be happening if Google apps were tampered. I've removed every AT&T app except myAT&T along with the Browser and Email app and even the EasySettings, and haven't gotten the security screen.
I removed most of the ATT Apps. Also got rid of LG YP. All it did was make it so the yp link in contacts doesn't work. Just an error message, no force closing.
Also added 4.2 keyboard and camera as well as SVoice. Replaced LGs weird browser with stock ICS. Loving this thing so far.
I've frozen everything with AT&T and YP in it, so far no problems. I'm also using everything I restored from my SGSIII. Apex, SwiftKey X, Handcent, etc...

No go, moved it to /system/app, chmod 644, deleted /data/dalvik-cache and rebooted. Still Force closes. Any chance you can share your APK? Mine is supposed to be from the GSM Galaxy Nexus but you never know...

Wow, Google should've kept this browser. It blows Chrome out of the water in terms of smoothness and functionality.
